Great ready for a treat! Fair Oaks Pharmacy has been serving since 1915 and a great start/end to Route 66. Apart from the Soda fountain, they have a ‘Celebration of Pop Culture’ room with purchasable retro memorabilia from 50s to the 90s! Try out items like the Coca Cola Sundae or an old fashioned ice cream float, where else would you get them!

Such a unique and fun place! We were welcomed by 2 friendly staff members who were helpful with it being our 1st time there. I paid $3 for a 1 scoop cone! I was blown away by the size and how affordable it was. Lots of cute toys and books for kids. The food menu sounded great! Ill be getting something from their next time 😋 support local! Theyre awesome.Update: they have amazing french fries! We got the regular. And the banana split sundae was superb. The ice cream was so smooth and had a great taste. They truly never disappoint5/25/21 THEY RE-OPENED 🙌 ABOUT TIME heh. Ive been waiting months and so glad theyre back. Serving ice cream only right now, no food from the restaurant. Our visit was great, got the bubble gum flavor. Their was only 1 girl serving today. Felt a little bad since it got busy and people left 😕 I did not mind waiting at all. Told her to take her time :) great service as always. Cant wait for the kitchen to open!

Fair Oaks Pharmacy is a classic location. Ice cream parlor with a real pharmacy. Brings back nostalgic feelings of the old days.They have a great selection of desserts, the portions are huge, be for warned. The ice cream is very average tasting, not to say it taste bad. They also have a selection of regular food, such as burgers and fries.The rest of the pharmacy has toys and gifts, nicnacs and other Route 66 related merchandise. I appreciate the old games and toys, the stuff you may had found in the 50’s.The atmosphere is so delightful. Fun for a date, family or just friends getting together to eat the most expensive dessert I’ve ever seen “the sink” costing a whopping $35. (See picture below)

This place is one of the oldest buildings in Los Angeles. It even smells old. They are packed with candy, and nostalgic toys, even from my childhood in the early 80s in the Midwest. My hearty was so happy walking in, the artists did a great job with the atmosphere ( the moon and rain clouds). really well done. Definitely will be back.

Love to visit this whimsical place whenever im in town. Best ice cream ever. The junior banana split can be shared by 2 people. The decor is decorated with old toys and candy (all for sale) that was a staple growing up. Christmas is a nice time to visit with so many themed Christmas trees. Highly recommend.There are times that theyre super busy, but the staff are troopers and are always so friendly.

I showed up at 4:40 PM to get an ice cream to support small business. Regrettably, the soda jerk told me he just had the last call at 4:30 pm. Prior to going, I looked at their website and no where does it state they have a last call at 4:30 pm. He locked the doors at 4:50 pm. I fought traffic after getting off work to try and get my ice cream only to be turned away so the soda jerk could close early. I would go on the weekend. It they are closed. Terrible service.

Cute and kitchy place a great spot to bring visiting friends. Lots of old timey toys and candy. Great soda fountain for sweet treats. Hours are tricky so check before going. Nice area to walk and see shops.

This is a really cute old school soda bar/fountain. I love how they sell little toys and candy in the store. There’s a compounding pharmacy in the back that makes a phosphate solution for their sodas. The staff are extremely nice here and I loved learning about their story and chatting with them.

Came here for a Hot Fudge Sundae $10 and it was just ok. Its no longer served in the old tulip sundae glass using plastic instead. Also they no longer serve hot food and their Ice cream menu has been slimmed down. I wouldnt come back until they regain their old form.

Passed by this place looking Canoe House and end up having lunch here.The place is an old school 60s era design. A bunch of toys inside and candies. A lot of Christmas decor still around. When I arrived at this place, it was only me. There are 4 servers around.I ordered the philly steak and got my order in 10 min. After 30 min of slowly eating my sandwich, the place is beginning to get crowded. That is when everything went south.I asked for the Fremont ice cream and I saw my server was so busy doing something with the computer. It took another 15 minutes before I got the order. I asked for a refill of my drink and I never saw that again until I left.It seems servers are all disorganized. I can see some of the customers are getting antsy. There are less than a dozen small table that sits up to 2 or 4 people and it seems no one is in charge of a particular area. That is why I can tell it is disorganized.Their food was good specially the serving size of the ice cream that can feed up to 4 people.

In today’s corporate environment, profits have replaced genuine customer care and satisfaction. Chain pharmacies are under pressure to do more prescriptions, with less staff, and that’s why we have long lines and less quality care. It’s breath of fresh air to see pharmacies like Fair Oaks have survived, and are still providing complete service, with a kind pharmacist and their dedicated staff. Fair Oaks is one of the last remaining pharmacy in southern California, that truly care about their patients. I can not find anything but praise for the staff, who provide my mom with all her needed medication.

I stopped in to browse and check out this famous soda fountain shop. I thought I’d try the Jr. banana split for old time sake. Gosh, this thing is enough for an army. Only $7.95, sadly, my eyes could eat more than my tummy can. There were families with kids! Sure is fun for all ages!

A bit of a tourist trap. The history and nostalgic feeling make it worth visiting. Candies and toys that just about every generation will remember from childhood. Ordering a soda, takes you back in time to the way the soda shop used to be. It helps you understand the culture and draw as a place to gather and hang out.The staff was extremely talkative and informative. Phosphorus soda wasnt our favorite, but it was something that I would encourage everyone to try.

Love this place! Great atmosphere, delicious ice cream treats made with care by the awesome staff. Do yourself a favor and get a malt milkshake. A little pricey but worth it. Havent ever tried the food here, Ive only had the desserts.Dont come here if youre in a rush. There is often a long line, seating area fills up fast and it closes early, so plan accordingly. Ive seen some reviews saying the ice cream is, Just okay. Compared to what? Rite Aid?If youre not looking for ice cream with an experience, go back to Vons and get your pint for home. This place is a treasure.

“The Kitchen Sink”A friend and I have heard a lot about a challenge here at Fair Oaks Pharmacy called “The Kitchen Sink”. It consists of 8 (LARGE) scoops of ice cream, 8 toppings, a full can of whipped cream, brownie chunks, cookie pieces, bananas, and 8 cherries.If 2 people finish within 30 minutes you get a t-shirt, you’re picture on the wall, and the ice-cream is free. If you don’t finish you fork out $43 (including tax) and an experience you hope to forget😂It’s said to have been completed but after taking our stab at it I’m unsure of those legends. We invite all men everywhere to consider this challenge. But know that it’s not the quantity of ice-cream or the time limit but rather the ridiculous amount of sugar this contains that makes this dish hard to complete.Other than that the atmosphere was great and the servers were very friendly. The menu also had a fantastic spread of sandwich’s, sides, and burgers.

Absolutely hate this place because their hours are inconsistent and when they actually are open they limit what you can order. I couldnt even grab a soda 45 minutes before closing today. If the SODA fountain isnt serving any soda, just close the doors. No, I dont want to purchase candy... Youre the soda fountain not a candy factory. I understand not doing food, you have to clean up equipment and all that. Im a chef, I get it but I cant even get a drink? I wasnt trying to get ice cream or milkshakes....just a regular soda that they were advertising on their door(pb&j) only to be told I couldnt order anything as soon as I entered. Head to Galcos instead where if their doors are open, you wont be denied soda.

This pharmacy is without a doubt the finest gem in town. Regrettably, I havent had the opportunity to visit recently due to the backorder situation with the medication I require. Its unfortunate that smaller pharmacies like this one dont seem to receive priority in terms of stocking compared to major chains like CVS. This situation truly saddens me because I wish I could turn to them for all my pharmaceutical needs. Ive never experienced such attentive and personalized service at any other pharmacy in my life. I wholeheartedly recommend choosing them over the larger, impersonal alternatives.

Went in late, around 4:45. 2 People walking out. Someone said they ran out of ice cream. The girl behind the soda fountain making a huge ruckus, like she had to get out quick. No manager or adult in view, just two teen girls by all appearances. So, got run off. Not worth trying it again IMHO. Certainly not after the unfriendly vibe I got.

Ive visited twice. The first time was great - I ordered a root beer float, it had a lot of ice cream and the service was friendly. They let me chat with my friend at the booth and pay at the end.The second time I apparently encountered one of the owners. They werent as generous (cup wasnt full) and insisted that I pay beforehand - walk across the store, wait in line, pay, while my drink is sitting on the counter melting.I would say the first experience was 5 stars, second was 2 stars, which averages to 3.5 stars. Rounding down for their (lack of) hours.

I love this place!! All of the workers are so nice and treat you more than customers. There is so much to this place such as sandwiches, ice cream, candy from the 50s and 60s all the way until today, different toys, and the size of their banana split is so big!! If you love more of an older vibe kind of place I definitely think you will be interested. This place is also family friendly so dont be afraid to take your friends and family!

Ive been here a few times and the food is delicious down to the very last bite. It has a mid 50s diner feel but w/ a contemporary shell to it...The service is 1 of the reasons why I keep wanting to come back. They have a very helpful staff thats very intuitive.They have flavoured soda; just select the type of soda (Dr. Pepper, Root Beer, Sprite, etc.) and then make your selection of flavoured syrups (Pineapple, Blueberry, Gingerbread, Mango, Cherry, etc.)The best part is the deserts but Ill let you experience that for yourself. Its really hard to categorize this place since they are a creamery, a diner, a pharmacy (yes you can pick up prescription here) and a curiosity shop selling miscellaneous knickknacks. Worth a visit. I wish I could give this place more stars but the food is what killed the deal! We came for lunch and quite honestly, had I known better I would have eaten elsewhere! The chicken salad sandwich was off and the garlic chips were very greasy! The manager did replace my horrible sandwich with a grilled cheese. That too was overly greasy and though the menu said it was cheddar cheese I beg to differ, it was simple American cheese (like out of a plastic wrapper). My daughter had a chicken, bacon ranch burger and it was simply horrible! The only thing that made the trip worthy of one star was the ambiance! We won’t be going back! Now it’s off to Fosselman’s for some ice cream!!

Part of the heart and soul of South Pasadena, the Fremont pharmacy really cements the old town look and feel of the city. Their ice cream sundaes and fountain soda are still made old-fashioned-like at the bar, with a wide selection of flavors to choose from (and unlimited refills for the soda!). Their toy and candies add to the classic charm of the place, and though slightly on the pricier side, their food is pretty good too. The attached pharmacy compounds and fills prescriptions as well.

Been coming here for about 12 years before my daughter was born. After she was born, weve made it our spot for ice-cream and now we get to bring her friends along. Its an experience just to visit this old school soda fountain. (service can be slow, I think they hire high school kids to allow them to earn some and gain work experience, pls be patient with these kids serving you, youre there for the ice-cream and the experience and you will be compensated with great ice-cream and large portion). Ordered the $9 Cheese Fries. Umm... they werent that good. The cheese was dry and there wasnt enough of it. I think it was shredded cheddar. I would have preferred something a little more melty .The price was too high for what you receive.My friend was charged $6 for two scoops of ice cream even though the signage next to the flavors said it would be $3.15. When he brought up the discrepancy the employee apologized and took down the signage. We thought it was very bizarre that they advertised a different price for their ice cream than what was charged.

Magical! Like stepping back in time, but with todays prices. A real old fashioned pharmacy and soda fountain. Delicious ice cream sundaes, floats, egg creams, banana splits and other concoctions. Burgers, tater tots and chili cheese fries are only some of the yummy food options. And the candy store has old time favorites like candy cigarettes, pop rocks, zolts, candy buttons and root beer bottles. Tin wind up toys, race cars, robots and tiddlywinks are for sale. Don’t let these good reviews fool you, the food is barely palatable. Its below standard diner fare wih limited and uninspired choices. The decor is unique and interesting, lots of knickknacks to peruse and old school candy and games to buy. The waitor was very nice and attentive, but I also think he may have been the cook too. I ordered eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and pancakes, and all but the bacon weren’t any good. The hashbrowns were cubed french fries, the eggs were way overdone, and the pancakes tasted literally like dust. Shame such a neat old place is sore need of a revamp. Go check it out, but not for the food.

This is a fully functional modern pharmacy but is also a soda/ice cream parlour. There are also a wide selection of old fashioned candies and gifts that you wont find anywhere else. Brandon is so helpful and explained to me the difference between a rickey and phosphate drink. Both are delicious! This place is so unique that it was featured on the History Channel show Modern Marvels.

A lot of what makes this place a great place to go to is that its one of the few honest soda fountains with an actual soda jerk in L.A. County. A historical landmark, as well as the tradition of serving Fosselmans Ice Cream, the famous ice cream that was once in South Pasadena and has since been relocated to Alhambra. The decor is true to the era it came from, and if you choose to sit outside or next to the window, the location is in the heart of town where you can see people out walking, kids coming home from school, the very essence of living in this small community. It probably has the same feel that it did so many years ago. How classic is it to be able to see the neighborhood and enjoy a limericky or root beer float?

This was my favorite place to visit while in South Pasadena. Now its always closed with very limited hours. And the neon lights have been off for over 2 years which is a huge highlight and tourist stop for Route 66 travelers. The current owners are absolutely pathetic. I would hope somebody legit would buy this place and change it back to the way it use to be. Because treating a staple to the city like this is a slap in the face for everyone.

Love the old school concept. But they need to do a deep cleaning. The menu seemed to have not been cleaned for at least a month, they are sticky and have food residue. Behind the counter, you could see how unclean they keep the stations. Choclate syrup on the counter and gallon of milk, waffle batter driped on side of the counter. The male staff acted a bit like kids. I saw multiple times how they through food trays into the sink, where a young lady was prewashing them, hitting her hand (I was right in front of her). Wort would be how I saw the deserte serves use the same gloves to make a desert, take payments, operate the cashier, and youch the rest of the dirty appliances. I simply walked in had there well know cherry pop and walked out. If these things are addressed, I would be back.

Want to travel back a few decades and visit a soda pop shop? Fair Oaks Pharmacy is the place to be. It opened a few decades ago and it appears that not much has changed.It is the only place I go to buy old school candy like Now Laters, Alexander the Grape, and Lemon Heads.While you are there, order a pop from the soda fountain and dive into a monster sized banana split big enough to serve 3 adults.If you happen to have the entire family with you, order the Kitchen Sink. You are sure to get enough ice cream to last for the next few decades.

Did we get discriminated against? I bought candy and went back to get icecrem with my friend. No one came up to us or brought us menus so after a while we grabbed one ouselves. We sat for 20 minutes and no one aproached us. We watched them offer waters to other tables who showed up later. They even got served we still were never approached. The waiters stared at us until we finally just left. What the heck happened? Im kind of shocked. I know they say Pasadena is a little prejudice. But I havent felt this way since coming back from the south. Damn :/
