The store would have a good review if it were based on selection, organization, and cleanliness. The 1 star is based on the outrageous pricing for mediocre products, and the bizzare attitudes of their staff. Dont get me wrong they arent all bad but it seems like everyone I end up dealing with is having a horrible day. I used to love this store but its been about a decade since Ive had any good experience.

Fair Game is my favorite store in the Sacramento area!Ive been coming by this store every couple weeks for the last few years and they almost always have something new for me to add to my collection!This place has the nicest staff, cleanest store, and the best atmosphere for shopping for retro games! Theyre a bit more expensive than what I see on sites like ebay but they also give a good rate on games that Ive sold to thembi can excuse the slightly higher pricing

Don’t ever buy here. This place is awful. I purchased allll of a retro games here. And I had an issue with a system I purchased for a family member. They have always been great before this interaction. I was obviously a returning customer and they wanted to charge me for a defective system they sold me. I’m so incredibly disappointed. I’m not a “Karen” in any ways and I understand more than most about needed to make a profit but this was a gift! I work really hard for my money so feeling taken advantage of is not the right business model.

Clearly they would rather be passive aggressive and not commit to a better customer experience. Looking at the past month of reviews Im not the only one having issues with this place.Original Review: I have been a loyal supporter of this shop for several years and have spent a considerable amount of money here. However, my recent experiences have left me desperate for a better shop in the area. I can excuse the extremely high prices for games, especially when youre looking for that one game and need it now. Supporting a local shop has its merits. I can even overlook the abysmal GameStop buyback amounts because sometimes cash is needed urgently. Ive turned a blind eye to a few games not working upon purchase and having to return them.But what I absolutely cannot tolerate is the fact that I witnessed two grown men discussing how they swindled a little kid out of their Galaxy 3DS XL. I overheard their disgusting conversation about how the kid came in, unaware of what he had, and wanted a regular version of the 3DS, which they eagerly swapped for the far more valuable Galaxy 3DS. Instead of informing the kid about the worth of what he had, they shamelessly took advantage. What a despicable act, and how foolish to brag about it.Furthermore, dont you dare try to haggle with them. They will consult price charting or whatever site they use, and if the item is listed for more, theyll change the price to the new higher one on the spot. I have never encountered a retro shop with such a dreadful business practice. This behavior is unacceptable and has completely shattered my trust and respect for this shop.

I had an amazing experience coming in and seeing all the amazing retro video game consoles! This place can also feel like a mini museum. Its great that a place like this exists and it helps our kids to see what kinds of older games we used to have around. This place is great for PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo 64, SNES, NES, DS, GameBoy, etc. They also carry modern game titles/consoles such as Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Overall very satisfied with the customer service. I sincerely wish this shop great success and the ability to expand further. Please make a shop near Downtown Sacramento.

The best game store in the fair Oaks region and even in Sacramento as a whole. The remodel they have done in the past years has made more room for patrons, displays, cabinets and merchandise. Ive been coming here since I was a kid. Always have had great prices and amazing retro games.

Unbelievably clean and professional for an independent store. They even had a restroom, which was a kindness since we drove over an hour to get there. The pricing was current and dialed in for each individual game. We loved the imported toys and other swag. The movie playing while we were there reminded me of my years running a Hollywood Video store, when most of those now vintage games were new. Wonderful experience and well be back.

Fair game retro was cool until mishap happen online when I pay for the order and I got it then later they try to take it from the owners bank and then said I can come here no more thats B.S Ive been going there for years I even supported them during covid good luck to them they have some all right games but they do kind of overcharged for certain games too first of all I did not file a chargeback my girl did that because she was mad about something so thats why the game was brought back

Staff was friendly and helpful. I hadnt been to the store since early 2020 and coming in today everything looks great! I got some original Game Boy games which will be the beginning of my Game Boy collection. I got the games home and theyre all working in my new (to me) Game Boy. Nice promos going on, saved me a little money too! Thank you! I hope its not another couple years before Im there again!

First impression of this place was awesome!! They spent a few minutes tracking down their last copy of Skyrim(PS4) for me. I get home to download/play the disc only to get a notification that its unreadable because theres a decent sized scratch on it(wish I had examined the disc before I bought it). I assumed it was good since they sold it to me and put it in an envelope and then into the Skyrim game case.I get to the store the next day and their policy says I can only get store credit, despite the broken game being sold to me that way, Oh and an employee also says theres a protocol where they test each game to make sure it works, I guess this one didnt get tested and I got the short end of the stick? Do better.

Stopped in today for the first time not really sure what I was looking for and happen across two games from my childhood that I want to play again, and even though there was no PS2 controllers that wont stop me from coming back when Im ready to pick up my super Nintendo and my GameCube again. Such a great selection from almost any console you could think of and really great prices to match. If you been reading reviews on this place unsure whether to go in or not just go in and check it out.

Im editing my review to give more to this incredible gaming store. The variety of games available is outstanding. Almost every classic system going back to the Atari and even the ColecoVision they have on display( & even sold ). Every visit, I find myself looking at every corner of the store not only because of the numerous classics they sell, but the quality they are sold as. Almost all of their games are sold with the game case, and even the instruction manual. However, their prices are a little higher than other thrift stores/online sites, but their premium conditions make up for it.Last but not least, the staff. The staff is super friendly and extra helpful. Whether its a busy or slow day, you can definitely approach them with any gaming questions or needs. This is more evident in their social media; very responsive. Beyond that, they have sales daily, even events that really engage their clientele. They just held a Free Video Game event last weekend, and the line wrapped around the corner and into the back of the parking lot. More recently, they expanded the store and now include more merchandise, food and drinks(Stuff you wont find in Gamestop). Overall, this store is my go-to place for anything retro gaming. Im sure there are online sites and more local stores that sell the same thing. But if you want to go back in time, before online ordering, before the gaming industry became massive, when you were a kid waiting in line wanting to buy the gold cartridge Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, you go to Fair Game.

This place is a scam. Buyer be warned. Sold me a 32 dollar controller that didnt work out of the bag and wouldnt let me exchange it because it was more than 2 weeks before I could come back. This was a gift for my kids so we couldnt try it any sooner! The employee then had the balls to try to sell me another used controller and wouldnt take the defective one in trade. They put the burden of testing on the customer so I wasted 35 bucks after tax. This is why storefronts are dying. Its sad because i wanted to support local business... Shame on this establishment.

Great shop and spied me the new Retron 5. I want. Employees impressed me with their knowledge. One of my kids asked about a few games and what differences were for same cart different colors. Dude was soldering a gaming guitar, stopped and gave us excellent knowledge on why and what was different about them in-game. IMPRESSED!

Over priced games that dont work. Online is way cheaper but I am willing to pay more for an experience. But not for the customer service they offer. I wanted store credit for a game that did not work. My son and I were ready to buy multiple games. They would rather lose customers, than to give me store credit ($15) so I could spend more money there. Not very smart. Small price ($15) I paid to know to stay away from this place.

Called them about an old Yugioh GBA game called Reshef of Destruction and was lucky to find out that they not only had one in stocks, but at a fair price compared to online vendors.Great customer service with a host of classic games, systems, and anime related content. Massive inventory of just about every video game console imaginable. Some bargains can be found but prices are typical of what you expect and sometimes slightly higher. They do test everything and all purchases that I have ever made were in excellent working condition. They also have other collectibles so something for everyone. Plus a couple working arcade games and consoles set up in the back. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Highly recommend!

The seem to regularly carry rarer titles and its such a treat to see. Their other merch like bags, prop weapons, and puzzles is very diverse too and quality stuff. In town, and checked I think 6 of the Sac retro stores for n64 games that arent your generic cheap sports games-- this spot probably has the best selection.The caveat is that the selection comes at a cost. I think over all, easily the most expensive of the establishments Ive visited for games

Do not buy from here! I purchased 4 games from here on September 4th and 1 game didnt work at all and another skipped really bad. I work 6 days a week and couldnt exchange until today the 25th (still under 30 days) but the lady at the desk said I could not return or exchange after 14 days!? Why not disclose that information when I purchased the games? They were going to charge me to re buy the same games again and hope they work this time?? Shady af.

Great selection across pretty much all generations of games. Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. However, their prices are horribly inflated. Pretty much any game or console they have is double the price you will find on eBay or other marketplaces for an identical product. For example, a complete Twilight Princess for GameCube sells for around $120 but theirs are priced at over $200, and a loose copy of Pokémon Red goes for roughly $50 but theirs is priced at over $80. If their prices were more reasonable, this would be a fantastic place to find games.

Always loved this place. They are great answering incessant questions from rambling 10 year olds about Pokémon, anime, and all things in between. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Never had problems with any video games, or products I’ve purchased from them. I’ve never sold to them so I can’t really offer an opinion on that process. Stopped by randomly over the last 10 Years + and they’ve always been super helpful and friendly. Great assortment of toys and games.

I love this place! They have loads of goodies! Old school games, and even new generation stuff. The vibe walking into this place is spectacular. Everything in your childhood comes back to life. They have tons of rare items that are priced fairly, and tons of other stuff super duper cheap. Tons of other goodies as well. Accessories, and plushies too! You even hear video game music as you walk into the store. The staff is really awesome! Extremely helpful, and knowledgeable. Way better than any other video game store.

Great place to shop for your game needs. They have knowledgeable, friendly and competent employees and have a repair person on staff. They have resurfacing services for your game discs, dvds and Blu-ray discs on-site; this has been extremely helpful to me. Now when I get a ding on a disc, I just have them resurface it for a very fair price, and I am good to go. Fair Game is not a chain store; it is a nice small business, and they really appreciate their customers. Once you try them, you will want to go back and be a regular customer.

Clean and organized layout of games. Some cool items you dont see in person too often and the occasional affordable game thats uncommon but not high demand. Some of the prices are a bit higher than what I usually see but if you want it bad enough, Its there vs online or stores that have too quick of a turn around of that game.

I visited for the first time in approximately six months today and was sad to see that Fair Game has decided it’s more important to have a ton of great inventory than remotely fair pricing. Everyone knows you can’t have both in the retro game market, but historically Fair Game always had prices in line with eBay, Pricecharting. Now in many cases it’s close to 50% more than what you would pay on eBay. For example, the sticker price on Rule of Rose is $915. There’s absolutely zero precedent for that game selling for $915. It’s a 47% markup from current Pricecharting. I’m sure the owners will just blame pandemic pricing or whatever, but this is now far and away the most expensive retro store I’ve ever been in. It’s a great museum, you’ll see tons of games you never see anywhere else, but you’d be foolish to buy it from them.The staff are nice and the place is aesthetically pleasing. I hope the owners/management see the error of their ways soon and get back to being honest.

For buying classics, this place is awesome so far as having a great collection in one place.However, pricing-wise, you are much better off using online services for both buying and selling. I was kind of surprised how much they low balled me on some games I had versus their going rate online.Also, another great place for buying can be Denios. I have found some very high value, mint condition games there and bought them on the cheap.

Don’t waste your time selling your game console or games there, they will low ball you so bad it’s ridiculous, they are a total rip off you better off posting on Facebook market or OfferUp, I’ll never go there again, for an example I went there to sell my GameCube and some games, they offered me 40 for my GameCube, then they will turn around and sell it for 200 it make no since why they low ball you so much, when they will make 150% profit off you, good luck to all who does business with them

A little bit expensive but this place understands older games and consoles can have issues so their easy repair or return policy is top notch. Most places will sell as-is and if the rom or disk is damaged or console is no longer reading games your on your own unless you go to fair games.

Some of the worst customer service I have ever gotten at this location. I went in looking for PSP repair, charger and games and the guy was super short with me, refused to look at me when addressing my questions and offered no viable advice as to where I could go to get the things I needed. They had the charger but I refuse to give money to a place that doesnt work for my business. Its not hard to look at someone in the face while talking to them. Will never suggest them to anyone again. You lost a very loyal customer.

As well as a great selections of plushes and more gaming stuff. I however need to mention that the prices are bit high. On price charting the game Metroid Prime Echoes for Gamecube is going for $70 CIB, and eBay you can find for that price and lower. There it was $88. A bit steep. But for the convenience of walking and getting a great game I understand going higher then eBay. Just a bit of a warning for those that are looking to buy understand most likely higher prices.

I understand retro gaming has become popular and taken off but paying $20-$300 for a video that cost $3-$20 a few years ago is insane. Its becoming not affordable like lots of things these days. The new systems are cheaper to play instead of the 35 year old systems. Its crazy. However, the selection is awesome. The customer service is the best Ive ever experienced and they have everything..if they dont they can get it. Ill be a customer for as long as they are around. With quality comes a price. And with all these scammers out there trying to sell you you repros, I know buying a game from fair game will be working and legit. If not, they will take it back. This is a very good place to go if you want to get retro games for virtually any video game console, starting out with the regular Nintendo or the original Sega! The staff there is so friendly and knowledgeable and willing to help you out. If they dont have something that youre looking for while you are there, they will put you on a list so that if they ever do get that product in, then youll be the first person that they will call when it does come in. Theres lots of extra perks from being there. Last weekend I was there with my family and they had just extended the store by a little bit and they are giving away free games for a whole bunch of different video game consoles as well as Pokemon stickers and coupons for 20% off, 30% off, and 35% off for the next visit. We will certainly be using those next time!

These guys are awesome. Im a constant regular now. All of the workers are super sweet and will talk to you for hours on end. The owners are sweet as well. You can get multiple rare games from them at very decent prices. Definitely come in and support them if you are looking for older game systems. However one problem I have with this place is that many of the items are overpriced greatly, especially the higher end items which are priced at least 30-40% more than what the item is actually worth. The cashier told me any problems with anything bring the system back for a full refund I specifically asked what if its not compatible with my television. Just bring it in well take it back. Just visited Fair Game for the first time. The customer service was amazing. My 17 year old daughter is not comfortable in social situations, making it hard to communicate. Terry (the owner I believe) was so very kind and patient with her. He gently took the time to help her find what she wanted; making it a great experience for her. I know nothing about video games but my daughter also tells me that they have a great retro selection. Its a 40 minute drive to get there but we will be going back.

I could take my chances at flea markets or thrift stores, but more often than not I am faced with either all the good stuff at good prices being bought up by local resellers that dont know anything of the product they are selling (although is more than happy to charge double the price) or other collectors that happened to get lucky. GameStop has a nice variety of retro games at good prices, but the selection in local stores is often times limited to only a handful of titles I already have or dont want. So imagine my surprise when I discovered not only is their was a video game store about 15 minutes away from me, but it is one of my favorite places to be at during my days off.The store itself is rather small. It isnt a massive store filled with games as far as the eye can see, but rather a small shop next to a pet groomer. But they do say big things come in little packages, and this is no acception.What it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in variety. They have games and accessories for consoles as old as the Atari 2600, to as new as the PS4. They also have various other goods such as plushies, keychains, necklaces, and energy drinks themed after various video games and other media. They also have Surge, which is a drink any 90s kid would remember fondly. Despite being small, this store has alot to offer.The customer service is just fantastic! Not only do they all know what they are talking about in terms of video games, but they are not afraid to greet you with a smile and treat you like a good friend. Sure, some of them may look to be intimidating. However, these people are true gamers at heart, and are a blast to kick back and chill with while you shop. If ever I had a question, they were never afraid to answer or help me find the answer. They do their job with no complaints and in a polite manner, which is always a thumbs up in my eyes.Of course, their is also their pricing. As much as it pains me to say this, but this is the one negative I can find about the store from the eyes of an average shopper. Their modern stuff is priced very fairly, but their retro stuff does tend to be priced a bit more than eBay sold prices. While this may seem like a deal-breaker to some, to others and myself it isnt. While the prices may seem high, they arent terrible (unlike some resellers that charge twice as much in worse condition) and they do take a percentage off based on the condition of the game itself. For collectors like myself, it also acts as a convenience as if their is a game I have always been interested in and it is in great condition, I could pick it up right then and there for just a small bit extra instead of waiting a few days or weeks for it to arrive and hope it didnt get damaged in shipping. Also, if you sign up for their rewards program, you can save even more money as you build up points to unlock discounts. Even if the prices can seem up there, it really isnt a big issue if you are happy with paying what they are charging.Their trade-in program is okay at best, decent at worst. If you are looking for a place to offload piles of games and make alot of cash doing it, this isnt the place. I would say their trade-in program is on par with GameStops Pro Members program in terms of values. But, if you trade in alot of stuff that comes up to a rather high amount as-is, you can work with them to see if you can get a bit more for your stuff. It doesnt happen often, but it does happen and they are willing to negotiate.Overall, I really enjoy this store for what it is. Sure, the game prices can be a bit overwhelming to some and the trade-in program leaves much to be desired for my tastes. But, these problems hardly bother me, and I am more than happy to come in when I am out and about. If not to shop, to just kick back and chill with the awesome employees at the store.Rating: 9/10If you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping by and giving this place a look. You wont be disappointed.

Its a nice place. They made a side room for figurines, and fun knick knacks for you to buy. They still have their gaming selection. I use to go there back in 2003-2005 for Dreamcast games. Their stock has dwindled, as far as type of retro games for nintendo. They could have more in the back room, but what they had on display was half of what I saw on their online store. I love this place and need to shop here more often. I still primarily play on old consoles like Sega Genesis, older Gameboys, XBox and Playstation 1 and 2 and this is a terrific place to root around and find new (to me)stuff and old but lost favorites. They charged us $30 to see what the problem was with 2 Gameboys & a Super NES. They charge $10 per device just to open them and look inside for the problem. After a week they called & said none of them could be fixed after they looked inside. After bringing them home it was very evident that they had never opened any of them up. They either didnt have time or interest to actually do what was paid for or they do not know how to fix gaming systems. The problem is actually fixable it was loose soldering on the connectivity to the screen. The screws had actually not even been broke from the factory seal. DO NOT TRUST THESE CROOCKS! On top of all that the Tetris game that had been in one of the Gameboys they decided to steal & replace it with a Mulan game. They could have had loyal customers to their small business but now we will buy games & have systems repaired by a business that actually want to help people rather than lie cheat and steal from their customers.

Very good store. It has a good amount of Xbox 360 and ps2 games. The n64,snes,gb and nes catalog is also good. But the price are like 10 bucks over normal eBay prices.

Amazing! Everything is significantly cheaper than Gamestop and others. They have a huge variety of old games and consoles. They even have Atari and NES, Etc. If they offer the PS4 @ launch im definitely getting it from them!!

These are some grumpy people. I get that you see a lot of people who come off their high horse to talk to you about their amazing and rare game collection. But not everyone is like that. Brush that chip off your shoulder. There are no more brick and mortar used games stores anymore for this reason.

I was sold a scratched disk. After bringing it back It was fixed within an hour. Prices are slightly high, but inventory is great.
