My Husband and I have been coming to see Dr Lukens at Eyewise for over 6 years, and have had a wonderful experience every time, year after year. Dr Lukens is very personable; he is always concerned with your overall health and very thorough with a wonderful bedside manner. The staff is great! Always so pleasant, accommodating and helpful. We both look forward to our annual eye checkup every year and to catching up with Dr Lukens and his staff. I cannot recommend Eyewise and Dr Lukens enough!

Incredibly thorough, professional and kind. I’ve needed glasses since elementary school, but never before received such careful attention — or education, they literally explain everything they are doing in exquisite detail, and seem genuinely happy to answer any questions that you might have. As something of a nerd myself, I felt truly at home here, plus smiles and laughs the whole time — and extra points for handling my somewhat complicated dual-insurance without any issues (unlike some other local optometrists… EBMUD employees on the Sutter plan: GO HERE). If I had any complaint, it would be that I only get to visit them once a year for my annual exam 😭 See y’all in 2025!

I’ve been very happy with Eyewise Optometry. They have strict no walk-in policies that sometimes feel unnecessary for things like picking up a pair of glasses and getting them fitted, but otherwise they are extremely accommodating. Just got a new pair that didn’t quite feel like the right prescription but they got me in right away to fix them for free!

Quick COVID aside: If any business is looking on how to properly implement preventative measures for the pandemic, you should make an appointment with the team at Eyewise. Really well done. Dr. Lukens is amazing!I remember the first time I went. I mentioned to him that I was complaining for the past year in the other clinic about my prescription being to strong. They said it was very similar to my old prescription. I keep complaining about headaches. My eyes feeling very tired. When I saw the TV or any screen it was hard to focus. Very frustrating situation. My other clinic did nothing. Im so glad I came across toDr. Lukens. He in fact agreed that my prescription was way to strong including my contact lenses. He fix it and this is my third year with him and everything is perfect. I still using the same prescription. I couldnt be happier. When you find a excellent doctor. You stick with it and Dr. Lukens is one of them. Sad, that we are a military family and eventually we will have to move again 😐

Ive been coming to Eyewise for about 10 years; my daughter started coming when she was about 8 (shes 15 now). Dr. Lukens is very kind and knowledgeable. The other staff is wonderful, too. After all this time, they are well-versed in what frames may suit me. If something doesnt work out - the frames end up being uncomfortable, or a particular lens is wonky - they troubleshoot it with me. Im thrilled that this is our family optometrist, and my daughter and I will continue to come year after year.

Ive been going to see Alex Lukens at Eyewise Optometry for years, and have always received courteous, professional and thorough treatment by both the technicians, and by Dr Lukens. The technicians have been there since my first appointment years ago, and they are flawless at what they do: I accidentally stepped on the glasses Id got from Eyewise a couple years ago and it was a long shot that they might be able to be repaired at all, but after 25 minutes, I walked away with like-new glasses without even being charged, given that I was a longtime client. Amazing service! Dr Lukens is very thorough and compassionate. I couldnt recommend them more. :)

By far the best experience with any optometrist. Dr. Fong is incredibly thorough, has excellent bedside manners, and was sure to answer all 78 of my questions. The ladies in the front who run the show are also fantastic. They do require you to schedule ahead, so be sure to give yourself time for an appointment because they are in demand. Ive been coming here for years and love it. Dr. Luken and Dr. Kim both are great with kids - even when they arent the patient. Theres a play area for kids to keep busy while mom is busy. When my glasses came in I wasnt happy with the lenses and the optometrist and the opticians were extremely helpful with the changes, wanting to make sure that I was comfortable with them. I was happy that Eyewise automatically booked my annual eye exam for me…I can’t believe it’s already been a year! This is a nice convenience, especially given my experience with some medical professionals who would not even allow me to book an annual appointment, instead insisting that I wait and remember to call and make arrangements closer to the actual date.I’ve been very pleased with my glasses so far, and at my exam I ordered a new pair with a prescription more suited to computer work.

I have been going to Eyewise Optometry since they opened in Alameda, and I continue to see them even though I have moved out of the area. Dr. Lukens recommended that I try monovision contact lenses, and it has been a handy alternative to needing reading glasses. Drs. Lukens and Fong are gracious and thorough, and the staff is kind and friendly every time. After a kerfuffle with appt times due to travel, I was able to get in sooner than my original date and that was extra awesome as my 5+ year primary frames had finally broken. Fortunately, my prescription hadnt changed, and similar new frames were found by the fantastic Isabel plus she gave me instructions on how to fix the now old ones. The sun clips fit both, yay!Dr. Fong had helped me when I experienced whiplash and some resulting eye trauma. The marvelous Shelly got me in straightaway and Dr. Fong was patient with my concerns and checked both eyes completely. Even though I was out of pocket, the fee was more than reasonable. All was well, just a few floaters with which to contend.Thanks again to Eyewise for everything!

Just got my eyes checked by Dr. Lukens and I had an amazing experience! Throughout the years Ive been jumping from eye doctors to eye doctors, trying to find the right one. Other places Ive been to, seem to either be rushing or up-selling, which obviously makes for a poor experience.Dr. Lukens is very knowledgable, takes his time, and really seems to care about his patients. I have a very minuscule stigmatism in my left eye and my right eye was perfect. He did not try to up-sell and actually informed me that I do not need glasses. Ive been to another optometrist who actually gave me a prescription, but honestly the glasses never felt right so I didnt wear those. The staff were professional and got the job done, I have no complaints there!Throughout the process, both the staff and Dr. Lukens informed me multiple times that the room and equipment have been cleaned and sanitized, which made me feel at ease.Im so happy that Ive finally found my eye doctor! Now to find the right dentist...

I followed Dr Lukens from when he worked at For Your Eyes Only in San Francisco to when he started Eyewise Optometry as a new business in 2009. He is a wonderful Optometrist. I have a complex RX in my glasses and have had to send things back to the lab multiple times to get it right. He was patient and professional every single time. When I had to convert to progressive lenses, I had the same experience. he obviously loves what he does and is extremely knowledgeable. I would follow him to any other office location. Hes just that good. Shelly, the Optical Manager, is also extremely helpful, patient and professional.

Feels like going to the spa. There is never a wait, Dr. Lukens is friendly and informative, the eye measuring devices are cool, good music playing, my insurance benefits are always clearly explained, and Shelly always help me find the most amazing frames. I got a piece of debris stuck in my eye and was super uncomfortable. I really wanted to avoid an ER visit so I called to see if they would be able to help me. Lens became scratched and foggy. Eyewise indicated that eye glasses were still under warranty and lenses were replaced with no questions asked. Quick turn around and new lenses put into exiting frames in about 15 minutes. Customer service is outstanding, could not be more happy. Thank you.

Dr. Lukens is an excellent optometrist and his staff is incredibly on point and friendly. My daughter and I have been going here for several years. My daughter started as a young pipsqueak and now she is a young lady (on her good days). Dr. Lukens has always been great with her and we bought frames with insurance and glad because she lost them once and broke them once and we were covered. Think it was only $10 to repair the broken ones. Dr. Lukens is great with patients of all ages, very kind and gentle nature, as well as knowledgeable and thorough.For frames, its obvious that the focus (haha) of Eyewise is on quality not quantity. I am a big fan of the lines they carry, particularly SALT, Anne et Valentin, Lafont, and Ic! Berlin. I totally drool over every time I go. The real problem I have is that I cant afford all the frames I fall in love with. A bonus is that his office is very tastefully decorated with nice art and CLEAN! Couldnt be happier with this place! Very grateful. :)
