The Staff here is friendly, respectful, and helpful. We was able to book our storage online with an amazing deal. Once on the property we were helped right away and within minutes storing our belongings. Such a nice clean facility. I highly recommend this storage to anyone looking to pack away there stuff.

I liked how easy it was to rent a storage space. I simply went online, chose an available space, paid for it, easy-pay was automatically setup for monthly payments and that was it. You have the option to buy insurance from them or provide your own. I then signed up for online access to my account and my information was already there. Next I headed over to the storage facility, met up with Hector and he was really helpful in setting me up, showing us all we needed to do to access the facility, gate code, lift operation, precautions and also how to secure our storage space with the special lock provided. Excellent overall experience with great customer service, cleanliness of storage space and I therefore, highly recommend this facility.

Couldnt recommend the Extra Space Storage in Hayward more! Very friendly staff and nice facility. I particularly want to give a shout out to Darren. I gave him a call on my drive from Washington State. I had terrible service and the line cut out. I figured Id just give him a call back later, but seconds later, he called me back! I had a bunch of different questions about the move out process and he was very patient and walked me through it all. Been a renter for nearly four years, but finally cleared out my stuff over the weekend to bring my things back to Washington State. But if Im ever back living the in the Bay Area, I will be renting here again! Thank you!

Highly recommend extra space storage. Personnel on the phone and in-person are great. Not only courteous, but very informative on the whole procedure. They also seemed genuinely happy that we chose them as our storage company. Well trained! It’s good business sense: make the customer feel like they made a great decision. We happen to have gotten a Fourth of July special and we got a wonderful location on the first floor. No elevator needed and it’s right as you enter the property. I love it and I’m very happy with the size of the 8 x 10 storage unit that I had decided upon. They initially charged me for a lock as part of the administrative and initial fee, but I let them know I had my own lock, and they said, “terrific once you come in, we’ll refund you your money back,” and they did. So easy. we plan to stay at least one to two years. Thank you for a very positive and encouraging first experience with extra space storage.

Awesome experience! I must admit, I was hesitant about choosing Extra Space Storage, for I rented a unit in Castro Valley and the front desk were not unfriendly, unresponsive & rude. I wasn’t sure if i wanted to rent from this company again in light my previous rental experience. But I believe in second chances and this time around my rental experience has been totally different, in a very good way. Ive only been a customer of Extra Space since August of this year. Its only approaching the end of October, and Ive received a notice in my mail that theyll be increasing my monthly dues by 80%. Thats unacceptable. How can rates go up by more than half before even going through a complete year of service? Unacceptable, and although I can easily afford that price shift, the fact that they increased my rates by 80% is no place I want to continue business with. Look elsewhere if you value your money.

The employees are always nice, but the company has a predatory business model where they more than double your rent after a period of months--once they already have your stuff. Avoid if you can, or go in knowing that your initial rate is only for a little while.EDIT: I guess the person replying to reviews thinks Im stupid. Theyre offering new rentals at the same rate Id been previously charged; its only existing customers (whose stuff they now have) whose rents theyre raising. Dont be fooled. This is a part of their business model. Use them only temporarily if you have to.

She told me to come by whenever I had time and she would be more than happy to help. 20 minutes later I arrived and she anticipated my arrival and helped me out right away. The facilities are actually fine. The employees are very nice and helpful. I would not choose to use it again however. My biggest complaint is how far it is from the freeway, so next time Ill be sure to look for a place easier and faster to get to. They also charge a significant number of added monthly charges. Annoyingly I wasnt aware that every few months they raise the rent quite significantly if you pay month to month. Between May and August of this year my rent went from $150-$250. So when I moved to a smaller unit a few days ago, I paid for a full year to freeze the cost.

Rising Rent and False StatementsI started to rent a unit with $150 and over three months it is $220 and another three months it’s $280. They simply send you a letter and then charge you.About MOVING OUTThe rep told me I tell them in advance and then they could pro-rate your last month and refund you the remaining. HOWEVER THIS IS A LIE. I notified them a few weeks in advance and then when at the move out date, they told me they won’t refund me anything, and they KEPT MY WHOLE LAST MONTH. When I told them a rep said it is pro-rated, they tell me you have to tell them to adjust your last month to be pro-rated, and once your charged, EVEN ONE DAY in the month, they won’t return anything.Very frustrating to deal with, especially words don’t keep up the weight, so exercise caution when renting a unit with them🥲

Getting started with the rental was relatively easy; there were some starting fees including purchasing a lock since I didnt already own one but I dont know how that compares with other storage rental companies. Employees were always helpful. One of the boxes I placed in the unit (right by the door) sustained some mold/water damage but in their defense, I chose a drive up access unit (i.e. not indoor), so conditions were equivalent to storing your things in your garage. Best thing for me was how painless it was to end my rental once I no longer needed it. If I could give this place four and a half stars I would because I had a generally good experience.

I was also able to get the online price of the storage I selected. It was really convenient and I liked that they have pound the clock security as well. Darren was the best!The storage was kept fairly clean and they had added additional locks to the door a few months ago.Unfortunately my experience had a little hiccup since my unit got burglarized. The virus certainly has brought out worse sides in some people. It was quite a bummer at first. But on the bright side I had insurance.Darren came to help immediately and was very empathetic and kind.He kindly explained to me next steps such as filing police report and filing the claim. And even later on I asked for additional help, he was always very super friendly and more than happy to help.Even though it took a while, but now my claim has settled and I got my money back with the help from Darren.I particularly appreciate his help at a challenging time as this.Thank you Darren!!All the staff at this storage were very responsive and friendly.

I cant say enough good things about my experience.The facility is huge, but easy to navigate. It is modern and clean and doesnt seem sketchy like a lot of storage facilities. The security also seems good. The indoor units are clean and well lit. The item lifts were easy to use.A note on the prices, the rates listed online do not include the mandatory insurance. From my understanding, youll need to get insurance most anywhere, so its not unreasonable. The lowest insurance plan is $14 for $2000 worth of coverage.Basee on my first impressions and leasing experience, I would recommend this storage facility. I cannot speak to the long term experience, but, its been good so far.

I was first helped by Shawna at Castro Valley to see different unit options before I decided on one, she was glad to show me the units and explain different pricing options. In the end I went to the Hayward location where Site Manager Ray showed me a unit that better suited my needs. Both locations were clean properties, spacious and secure. All of the employees I encountered were especially corteous, attentive, and worked their hardest to help me with the best deal possible. Had both of my storage units broken into within two weeks of each other, and had priceless things stolen. Staff said Id be able to get a refund for that month - but every time I called about actually getting the refund I got nowhere. When I went to close out my account, the staff said I was good to go and didnt owe anything, and then months later I got a call from collections demanding that I make a payment. They made no prior attempts to actually contact me, just sent me right to collections. I will never recommend this place.

After purchasing the unit online and buying a lock, the representative I spoke with in the office wrote down my access code and gave me verbal directions on how to get to my unit. I then drove around the lot to find my unit which I could not find on the outside so I started unpacking my boxes in the F section where my unit was. I walked around the inside of the section but still couldnt find it until another representative who was on the property showed me where the unit was. When I got to the unit there was no lock inside, so once again I had to talk to a representative to get the lock which I purchased online for $30. The representative then went to get the lock after I found the unit. I loaded the boxes again into my car and drove to where my unit was and started unloading them into my unit.I think the representatives at this particular location could definitely use some training on customer service and how to do their jobs better. If I was actually shown where my unit is on a property with over 1800 units, these annoyances could have been avoided, and if someone had put the lock into my unit (which I bought more than 48 hours previously), I wouldnt have had to wait for someone to get me the lock I already bought. I wouldnt recommend getting storage at this particular location because there is a large Hiring sign on the outside and also because some of the people who do work here just dont want to be there.

Mouse problems! Be sure to Purchase rodent deterrents before storing. And maybe even use “bug bombs” once a month.If they had told me to do this. I would definitely have done so. They were the same size, on the same row just a few spaces apart; but yet for some reason not the same price.I moved my items into storage in July, periodically checked on them and began moving them out in Late Sept thru the first week of October. Basically 3 months.In removing my household goods with absolutely no food stored. We uncovered Mice, we saw at least one alive wondering around my unit and lots of “mouse droppings” inside my boxes on the mattress that was wrapped in plastic etc.Buy mouse stuff and bug repellent to keep your items free of infestation.

The only negative is since I just rented a second unit and I still had one there, I do not feel I should have been charged an admin fee again. My $38 unit initially cost me almost $80. Update: My storage unit was broken into and much of my personal items were stolen, and I only learned of the break-in and robbery 5 days after the incident when I went to my storage unit to retrieve things. I was horrified that I wasnt alerted immediately of the incident, and that my unit was essentially unsecured and open to anyone with access to the building for 5 days!! Extra Space Storage response to the incident was abysmal and lacking. Thank goodness that I had insurance to recover the cost of replacing many items, but my personal mementos are forever lost. It took me 8 months to get my insurance claim through the Extra Space Storage recommended insurance company. It wasnt until I threatened to file a lawsuit in small claims court that the insurance company responded to my emails and insurance claim. If youre looking for a secure place to store your goods, be aware! I would not recommend this place.TJ was extremely helpful in getting me situated with my storage unit. She patiently showed me storage units of different sizes and helped me to choose the best sized unit at the best rate. She was very patient as I struggled to narrow down which unit size I wanted. TJ also gave me a detailed description of how the insurance policy works and when I should expect a rate increase. Thanks again TJ for being so kind and patient!

If you are thinking of renting a storage unit from this company you might want to read my review before making that decision. I have been a loyal, on time paying customer of theirs for one month shy of one year. Their customer service has been great and the facility has a lot of great security measures. However, when I removed my items last Friday from their facility, most of my items had mold damage from the inside of the unit. I gave them over $2,200 and they refused to refund me any money, saying that I should have gotten more Insurance. The inside of their unit somehow had a leak or was wet and destroyed my leather couch, a queen-size bed, a twin bed, most of my blankets that belong to them, miscellaneous clothing items, a large bookshelf I bought from Ikea, my prom pictures, and other documentation from my one-year-old daughters birth and many other smaller items. Although I will be getting some of the insurance back, if I would have known that the unit would be moist inside, I would have stored things differently or went to a completely different facility altogether. Once they have you in there, by the way, they raised my rent starting after 90 days. So keep in mind if you are storing large items, you may want to wrap them with plastic or something that will protect them from any type of moisture damage. I rented unit number h002. I hope this keeps someone else from experiencing the same situation. Id like to note that I have addressed my concerns with the manager Ray, who provided excellent customer service but no refunds and directed me to his DM Todd who told me he would not refund anything and I should have had more insurance.

However today I had to get a craftsman tool chest, the bottom draws, and even empty it was quite heavy for me. I didnt think it would be a problem as my unit is on the second floor and theres elevators. The chest has wheels so easy breezy right? Nope....elevators werent operational. Quite a work out getting that chest down the flight of stairs. I didnt go to the office to enquire because I was on a time limit so I just made a hell of a racket, got a couple ankle bruises and got it done. This is really quite a nice storage location though easy in, easy out. Well ok Ill give them a 4.75 rating.🤗

Is my 2nd review for this facility. I first gave them 4 stars because my signing on experience was great but now it seems that was to get me to spend my money here.My husband recently flew from Texas to California to retrieve items from our storage (were expecting baby #2 and have everything in storage). He got there when the office was closed which should have been no problem but when he got to our unit there was no lock and could not get in. He had to fly back early the next day so the trip was a complete waste. As you could imagine I call the office very frustrated with this and was told the change the doors and locks. They said that they sent a letter and email but I obviously didnt get either. However I do receive emails about payments and surveys no problem.The manager (James i think) who was unapologetic and not very helpful concluded that they did everything they could do, but I strongly disagree. They have no problem calling if your payment is a day late but couldnt call after seeing my keys were still there, clearly we didnt get the memo. I work in customer service and could not imagine not offering some sort of compensation for such a big mistake. The sad thing is, Ive referred people and one experienced the same thing...so did they really do all they could? Clearly not. Ive wasted hundreds of dollars and do not have what we need. I would hate for anyone else to go through this. Its just bad business.Just check yelp

Today I worked with TJ. She contacted me shortly after I made a reservation online. When I arrived, she gave me a quick tour of the property and reviewed the unit i reserved. Unfortunately, the space was smaller than I thought, so then she made a suggestion to view the next size, which end up being the size i needed. She answered all my question about Extra Space storage and definitely would recommend using Extra Space based on my very good customer service experience from Lisa. Lastly, just an FYI, you need rental insurance which is probably cheaper thru your car insurance company.

I have dealt with companies where people dont man the desks, it takes forever to get help, and even experienced someone once saying that this was holding up their lunch. my experience at Extra Space Storage was the exact opposite. Thr process was easy and efficient. I didnt give 5 stars because i realized after the rental the web pricing was different and when I called to rectifiy they gentleman told me that I was offered 1st month free or web pricing. I explained to him that I was not offered either. The young lady that asisted me asked if I had a reservation, but never offered the option between the two.After all of that i told the gentleman it was okay since it would be a short term rental anyways.All in all, we all want to save money, so be prepared to remember the details that will save you a couple of bucks in the end.

When I first pulled up and looked at the storage unit, I was very surprised with how clean it was. After I spoke with Marisa on the phone, and then coming in and meeting her, she was so very helpful, so pleasant and now I feel that Ive met a new friend.
