I recently rented a storage unit at Extra Space Storage in Alameda and had a great experience. The facility is well-maintained, secure, and conveniently located. The staff were friendly and helpful, making the rental process easy. Expect your rate to quickly escalate after 3 months. We signed up at their web rate at $90, but were jacked up to $193 by the time we left. There was no indication when we signed up that their web rate would expire after 3 months, which seems like deceptive business practices to me.

The staff in the office doesn’t have much experience or patience when talking to customers on the phone. They can be very short and almost condescending as far as their tone of voice. They expect you to already know things as if we are a staff member on their team. They’re also very unsure of policies and procedures. We will see how the first couple of months go storing my things there. Hope corporate wipes out the ppl working the office soon.

When actually getting a person they are nice and efficient. Getting a person is HARD. Phone tree is terrible and location is understaffed. Otherwise facilities are clean and recently renovated. Happy except for trying to reach them.

Don’t really leave many reviews but felt like I had to go out of my way to make sure management knows how great of an experience I had a few days ago. I am new to the area and needed to get a storage unit asap and right away I was greeted by Danni, she was very very helpful and made sure I got exactly what I needed and made my experience a definite 10/10. Would never rent a storage from them again! They have a mouse infestation! Mouse poop all over storage, documents eaten by rodents, dead mice inside storage. This has been happening on and off for several years. When we moved out staff declined to do a walk though.

The manager Danni was extremely helpful and nice, I was able to get exactly what I needed while getting top notch customer service. Can’t get any better than that. The facility is state of the art, really clean facility and well secured. Worth every penny. Would definitely use them for my future storage needs.

Dont move in on a Sunday had issues with the gate being broken. No customer service available. I asked about lock type was needed before moving from another Extra Space and was told the incorrect lock so I was directed to another unit and was told there would be a lock in there I could use. Unfortunately that was false info. Spent all day running around trying to find a lock. Had to leave my unit open overnight. Next morning they gave me a new lock and knocked $20 off one month rent. My unit had no light so very difficult to access items in the evening .Highly recommend paying in advance if youre long term, they definitely will not offer up paying in advance but it is an option. After 3 months they raised the rent by 50%.

I had to store my furniture for a couple of years when I moved out to Europe from CA and I have NOT ONCE had a negative experience with the Extra Space Storage facility it it’s crew members during this time. They were helpful, kind and very responsive. Even during those times that I was overseas they communicated with me via email promptly and answered all my questions. The facility is very clean, the layout was easy to maneuver and advantageous when weather events like rain etc was considered. Actually this helped protect my belongings. Thanks for your service!

The storage facility is nice, and was mostly everything I needed. I appreciated that the units are within a gated area with password entry. However, there are no bathrooms in the gated area, which was a problem when we were there for several hours on a Sunday when the office was closed. Even more annoyingly, 3 months after signing the contract for $301/month, the rate went up to $381/month (27% higher). It felt like they were taking advantage of the fact that I probably wouldnt be bothered to move all the stuff into a new unit. On their website I see similar sized units for the original price, so I think its part of their business strategy to lure people in with low prices and then hike up the price once theyre settled in.

Renting a storage space for the very first time was painless! GREAT customer service from start-to-finish. Assisted on the phone by Justin the day before my appointment, he answered all of my questions and reserved x2 spaces for me to see. (Jeffrey assisted me as well by phone when I had addional questions.) Follow-up text messages confirmed my appointment. A call the next day from Deacon confirmed my visit. Upon arrival, I was immediately assisted by Oliver. He took me to both units and upon review I made my selection. Before signing, Oliver explained in detail the monthly cost, insurance and the benefits of paying a few months ahead to lock-in the promotional rate.Overall this was a very positive experience. The property is clean. Unit inspection clean and secure. Everyone I interacted with was very professional and courteous. I would highly recommend them!

I moved in yesterday and I was not provided with a lock but I was charged for one. I reserved an indoor unit with lift access. When I got there with my car packed full of heavy items to store, the elevator was not working. I had packed my entire car with all my items from out of town. So I had to manually carry everything up 2 flights of stairs and I was dripping sweat by the end. There was also a small bottle of urine in the corner that someone left. Luckily I had purchased my own lock that I had with me.When I try to call the local number, when it says connecting you to a store manager it just takes you back the generic automated message. You cannot speak to a person. Id like to know how does one access the lift? Is it closed during certain times? Can I be reimbursed my lock fee since it was not provided? Can someone pick up the pee bottle? How do I speak to a real person?

I would have gave 5 stars but there was no lock in my unit after I signed up for everything online… but other than that the online process was flawless and easy… The account was easy to set up online, terms and payment easy to choose and understand, unit was easy to locate once physically at the location and most of all access to the facility worked after the password was given to you… the email stated that a lock would be placed in the unit and none was found which was a problem because I got there prior to office hours and no one could help me… but the only inconvenience was to come back a few hours later and talk to staff… once returned to the location the staff was very apologetic and nice and they gave me the lock to the unit, which made up for the mishap… so 4/5 stars… plus nobody is perfect lol

Really nice. Affordable, convenient, secure, safe professional. My only concern is my unit had the paint on the ceiling peeling off. I called the front desk, they weren’t sure, as I suspected. Thus, I did my own lead check test. So far the results came negative. It would be nice if to know whether the unit has any toxic paint in it. I mean it really is chipping and peeling off, which again is my biggest concern. Anyways I’m going to stay cautious and might do another test. If all is well, then yes, I’ll give it 5 stars.

Not only was the building impeccably tidy but so were the areas around the storage units. The lock that I purchased on-site did not fit the hasp to my unit. Also, the deadbolt hole on the door frame was worn. It looked like their could have been forced entry in the past. This place raises the rent significantly from the initial amount quoted after a couple of months. Since theres no contract, they can do whatever they want, then your stuff is stuck there unless you want to move it, which is a big hassle and expense. My 24 hour access storage unit was broken into, and when I finally moved out, I couldnt get ahold of an actual person to find out where to leave my lock/keys or to ensure everything was okay afterward. I finally got a text, so I guess it was okay, but it would have been nice to confirm that earlier.

Oliver explained the process over the phone along with fees before coming in. We came in, had a great tour. He gave us different options and let us see them. He showed us each vital part of the storage area, such as the lift, stairs, easy access, etc. Ge walked us through the proceed with confidence and ease. They also take COVID precautions here very seriously! It smells so good in their office, keep distance and sanitize everything in front of you before you touch it. We are very happy with our rental. I feel all our items will be safe. Make sure to check the rates online!!!! So much cheaper!!

The term refreshing does not begin to describe my experience with this store. I have worked the customer service industry for years and lived by a code I so rarely encounter nowadays. Treat others with kindness, honesty, and respect. This is my way. In these last few years dealing with people while Im out and about, so few have taken that to heart better than Mr. Alex Carrel.What was supposed to be a simple inquiry of the site and its pricing turned into a worth while exchange that both answered the questions I asked and even some that I had no idea I should have even mentioned. I visited other sites of Extra Space before and only a handful even come close to the warm and friendly atmosphere offered by this one.Mr. Carrel has proved quite patient and understanding when dealing with others and even the manager proved to be quite a treat to deal with. I take the time to write and recommend so few places to others online, but this one is an exception. If you are expecting a run of the mill box checking slog Ill tell you now you wont find it here. However, if your looking for a generally helpful staff with reasonable pricing, I can not offer more praise than this store.

The manager Oliver and his staff treated me with the utmost respect and kindness when I rented a unit for my move. I was under the gun to get my stuff out of our old apartment quickly but our new apartment wasn’t ready yet. I only needed to store for one month. I appreciated that the staff didn’t try to pressure me into storing longer. What they did do was make sure I had everything I needed to make my move trouble free, from boxes and packing material to tape and a very secure storage lock. One stop shopping! The people who work here are very nice but this storage unit is the worst. We’ve been here all of six times. Three of those six times the elevator door jammed preventing us from moving our things. One time it was in the evening when there was no one to help us unjam it and we were racing a moving deadline. The whole thing delayed our move by a day which was a really big deal for various reasons. Management, swearing it was human error gave us $20 off for the inconvenience. This final time we’re moving our stuff out because they hiked up our rates with only five days notice and the elevator jams again. We just managed to catch the manager who had to use a crow bar to get our stuff out. He said they just had a company out to fix it that week. Clearly not human error. If your storage unit elevator is stuck 50% of the times you’re trying to get into it then my assessment is that it’s not worth the money.

Worst customer service experience at a self storage unit Ive ever had (and Ive used quite a number since I served in the military). Melissa needs to attend Customer Service 101. She used a bait and switch maneuver (which this facility is apparently known for), and when I called her out on it, she began yelling at me. Her colleagues were there, and when I looked at them to confirm Melissa was actually treating a grown customer this way (I actually thought I was dreaming. Alameda businesses are generally excellent for customer service), they all lowered their heads. Do yourself a favor, and check out any of the numerous other storage facilities on the island (which have actual alarm systems installed, too). This place tends to always have immediate availability because their turnover is so high due to ever increasing rental rates. You sign up for one rate, and within 2 months, guess what, you now have to pay a higher rate! Dont believe what they tell you about keeping your rates reasonable. Unless you get it spelled out in your contract that they wont raise rates, they will. First and last time working with an Extra Space Storage. I wont be back. To anyone reading this, good luck with your move. The Alameda business community is wonderful. My experience with this corporate facility (which has headquarters in another state) has been an exception.

I thought that it was great and convenient you can sign up online and receive the code immediately after registering and completing renting online, bc I wanted to start my move off hours.. however, I did it on a Sunday afternoon and didn’t start transporting my stuff until the evening after office closed. My gate code didn’t work and I tried calling the emergency line to get an access code in case my personal didn’t work, but still it wouldn’t allow me in. I realized this Monday morning after I got my signed contract back.... I guess u have to wait for the company signature back on the contract before gate access code works. However, front desk staff was extremely helpful with the elevator when it was jammed as well as helping me with my lock the next day. Overall good customer service and I wasnt as mad that day actually moved my first load of storage. This is a tentative review. The staff was nice for the most part. However, I felt trapped as the staff insisted on adding more fees as the experience continued. The kicker for a three star review was the “month to month” rent prices.. I’m waiting for the prices to sky rocket in a month.

I have stored my stuff here for more than 2 years and whenever I needed service, for example getting my lock cut (yes that happened) or borrowing a tool / dolly, he staff here was excellent and always helpful. Would recommended this place. Also, the hours are great. Can access my unit until 10pm every night.

I reserved on the central office number since they had access to availability in the area. Tasha, at the Alameda location called me immediately and took care of the rest. I was checked in within hours. Appreciate the friendly and efficient service.

I needed to get out of an old storage unit because it was broken into. I was able to reserve a unit and get it all set up in about 30 minutes. The facilities look a lot cleaner and more well maintained than the place I’m moving my stuff out of. Donja was super helpful in getting me set up at the end of the day.
