A little gem of a shop! Excellently pulled espresso, a perfect croissant and amazing gelato flavors. Loved the pint of blueberry goat cheese I took home with me.Thanks to the staff for an incredibly pleasant sojourn on a sunny Escondido afternoon!!

Ive been coming to this location once in a while ever since it was Blue Mug Coffee & Tea (2002). Among locals, its a very popular place, with great memories of making new friends, having casual business meetings, going for coffee after downtown events, catching up on the latest community chat or just relaxing with the newspaper and/or a loved one on the weekend. With its wide-open entrance, its fun watching the world go by on the sidewalk or side street. Years ago, I used to grab coffee there on the way to work. More recently, I’ve had lunch a few times. On my first occasion back in years, I had a little time to relax on the tree-shaded patio before my tomato bisque and mediterranean salad arrived. Slowing down really made me savor the food. Thats so important for being able to experience the individual aspects of a meal and what went into the preparation. The texture and subtle herbal flavors of the soup were divine. The artisanal bread was crunchy and delicious. The salad dressing was so fresh and tangy. When I expressed my appreciation, my server told me the details of how they made the meal. I was so impressed. She was clearly someone who loves food, ingredients and the work. Thats so important for any establishment. It shows in the final product. The staff were all very hard at work. For patrons, the nice aspect of slowing down is getting to chat with each other on the patio. So, the name of this place may have changed but the vibe remains. Continuity is comforting. The gelato is fabulous. So is their Cali Caprese. Shoppers might consider this place for quality gifts, e.g. wine, jewelry and goats milk lotion. It’s great to stroll around town afterwards to check out the murals, stores, farmers’ market, library, etc.

I got the passion fruit gelato, and it was delicious. The atmosphere was cute and cozy with little trinkets you could buy as well. My only problem was that they didnt clean the scoop, not just in between each flavor, but in between each customer. My dad got a chunk of the flavor the person in front of us got, and I got a chunk of the flavor my dad got in my scoop. It concerned me not just for sanitary reasons, but it could be dangerous for those who have allergies.

A nice place to drop by for a bomb treat. Especially during a hot summer day. Cool and delicious, get some for yourself, some friends or the family. Never the wrong time or moment for some sweets. its a delight for the heart. The staff is friendly and accommodating for all patrons.

Quaint gelato shop right near downtown Escondido. Very well decorated with seating inside and out, including a fire pit outside for those chilly winter nights...so dont let the cold weather stop you from getting that gelato! Plenty of flavors to choose from, and I loved the chocolate mint in a traditional sugar cone. Excellent, friendly service too.

My favorite place in town for coffee. I am a coffee drinker and this place has the best coffee in the County. Its cozy and the staff is friendly. The outdoor patio has that Euro vibe as well. Highly recommend! The only downside is that it does get extremely busy in the evenings on weekends so plan accordingly 😉

I love this place. All my favorites in one spot. Quality espresso, fantastic gelato, amazing tomato soup and salads! The best part is the courteous and professional staff. We go often and even on the busiest days everyone goes the extra mile, even the new hires. Consistency is key. The most important element is hygiene - it’s always clean and staff wear gloves! No hairs in my food ever! Kudos!

Now this is a nice little hole in the wall. The gelato is amazing and the fact the make it their is even more amazing. Me and my sister had a lunch date it was around 12 and it was pretty busy. We both got sandwiches bu the only bad thing is that my sisters was made incorrectly. We told one of the employees she musher of been the owner and she got right on it we waited a while and she ended up taking hers to go. Over all this place is great. Friendly employees and great atmosphere. The apricot goT cheese gelato is a must.

Giving this cute spot 4 stars for the ambience and the service. Its a really cute shop with quite a few things on menu and a cute outdoor seating area. However the gelato did not impress much. Thr pistachio flavor was very weak could barely tell it was pistachio. The berry flowered sorbet however was good. Didnt try other items but looked enticing. Do try the place.

Some of the best panini in the county! The deedo is great! I love the chocolate flavor and the cones are super fresh! Service is fast and the patio atmosphere is nice. They have a bathroom thats accesible from the outside, which is great for a quick hand wash. Love it!

When we moved from downtown San Diego to the beautiful city of Escondido, my wife really wanted paninis. We have been coming to EscoGelato for about a year now, and the paninis have not let us down. Personal favorites are the Deedo and Caprisi because of the pesto. Add a little salad or soup for a complete meal. The cherry on top really is the gelato. I came here for coal and found gold. The variety of flavors are amazing; every time I am here the options are all different than the previous day. Lately I enjoy the classics like chocolate and strawberry. Lastly, customer service is top notch. All the people working here are very nice. I will continue to visit and give my business to EscoGelato.

Place in Escondido that is kinda hard to find parking. The Gelato itself was sweet, icey, tarty, light, and hit the spot. Definitely recommend. This place is about 4.50 for a small cup. Beautiful place at night and has outdoor seating. Seating can become difficult if you arrive during a busy hour.

Ive been here twice now and each time their gelato was great! They change up the flavors too so u can try different ones fairly frequently. Theyre coffee ☕ is pretty good, nothing spectacular but then again they arent a coffee shop so no biggie. They offer a small menu of food items and my 2nd time there I ordered a Cali caprese panini, which was good but definitely needed some salt or more pesto or something to give it anything besides the bland flavor it had. The staff is very friendly tho! So overall a good experience both times, just subtracting one ⭐ for the very bland panini.

Gift card fraud?—A friend of mine gave me a gift certificate for EscoGelato a couple years ago, but until today I hadn’t made the time to go in. When I was sent to pick up food here today, I remembered my $50 gift card. However, when I went to pay, the woman behind the counter said I only had $20 and the computer said I’d come in multiple times over the past three years. They basically shrugged their shoulders and said there was nothing they could do. That card has been in my bedroom and no one in my house has been there until today—so I am pretty upset and definitely warn against getting gift certificates and/or gift cards from them.It’s nice inside and the food is decent, and they are really great about letting you taste test the gelato, but they also forgot our drinks and to hold the cheese on our salad which they then picked the cheese out instead of remaking it so our friend who is allergic to dairy couldn’t eat her salad. I’ve only ever heard good things about this place, so I was bummed to have a bad experience.

Always a delight entering Esco Gelato to see what flavors of smooth creamy ice cream they will offer today! Unusual flavors and variations on traditional flavors. They give a good size scoop but it doesnt seem like it because their serving cups are so small. A large cup sure looks like a mini cup at any other ice cream shop. They do allow two half-size servings per cup so you can try two different flavors in one cup. Service is very good from one server to another. Tables outside are not cleaned off from guest to guest, otherwise a pleasant patio feel to it. Go for the flavors, no disappointment at all! So good!

So I don’t usually leave reviews just because I never really eat at places that make me want to turn around and order more. Besides the fantastic gelato they have, they also have some of the best sandwiches in town by far. My wife and I went one morning cause we just needed food and it was convenient and by far it was the best decision we made, we had the grand and they’re grilled cheese and they were absolutely delicious. Will be back more often that is for sure.

The staff are friendly and ready to help you. This is a cute, fun little place that seems a combination of bistro, coffee shop and dessert parlor. I had a small serving of mango sorbet, and it was smooth with a nice polish. They didnt skimp on the mangos and use a lot of sugar. One of my favorite flavors I cant find anywhere. Gelato - excellent. It would seem suitable for lunch, although menu was small. I was informed they will expand the unit and soon have an upstairs. It seemed busy, clean. The flavor selection looked delicious.

All food and drink items from this locale are worth trying, because they just do it right. The Gelato however is the best of anywhere Ive tried in San Diego, period. They source their coffee beans from Zumbar Coffee and Tea, a top-notch local roaster and coffee shop. Pastries, sandwiches, and soups are all tasty and reasonably priced. A major plus for parents with small children, the play hutch under the stairwell will keep your kids occupied while you enjoy your treat. Its a good feeling to know a shop of this quality makes its home in Escondido.

This is my familys favorite place for a treat. The gelato is made from fresh local ingredients and is very addicting. The owner is always creating new flavors.In addition, in my opinion, the coffee here is the best in town. And it is nicely served on a platter with cream and sugar.The bakery here rivals any in San Diego, including Bread and Cie and Birdrock La Jolla. My girls and I tried the blueberry muffin recently and we all agree that it was the best we have tasted. The sandwiches are superb as well. This place is de m one of our go to places for Gelato in North County. Its located in the heart of downtown San diego. Great place to hang on a Friday night walking, pick up some dessert and check out the old fashion cars cruising down grand. Their Gelato is made fresh and they use local ingredients. Love the atmosphere of the location, very laid back with some people getting to go and others hanging around like a coffee shop. Water dish for dogs outside and a bicycle air pump as well (for all my visits so far). In my opinion it has a bit of a Portland type feel as far as easy going and local.Always amazed at the different flavors available. Also just as great as a coffee spot with a full menu of espresso drinks. They are also very responsive to restricted diets, for those impacted. Convenient internet access makes Esco a great place to be productive on a device. Their signs say they make the gelato from scratch every morning and pull many ingredients from local farms, and you can taste the freshness! This is a hidden gem in a side street near the Escondido Library. They have sandwiches, coffee, and bakery items, but their claim to fame is the gelato.They change the flavors seasonally, and also rotate them daily, so you never know which ones you will find. Tucked away in the heart of downtown Escondido, this place is well-known locally for its gelato, but its also my go-to spot for coffee! They open early, close late, and use Zumbar, a San Diego company that locally roasts their bean; for all of their coffee. On a similar note, they source the majority of the products they use from local businesses, which I always think is great. For food, they have great breakfast (available until 11am), panini, and seasonal menus, and if you dine-in (assuming there are spots open) the friendly staff will serve you food and drinks on/in cute ceramic dishware. One of my favorite things to do on a day off is sit at a table outside with a latte, panini, and blueberry muffin with a book, homework, or just to relax. 10/10 would recommend

I live in Fallbrook, abd find excuses to come to Escondido but my interior motives are to get another large gelato. Im glad COVID-19 did not put them out of business! But I do miss the endless samples and the fact that they used real metal spoons to be washed instead of the disposable ones. Went in for a coffee and to do some school work. I asked for WiFi. The girl who was at the register said yes they had WiFi and told me she’d bring my coffee to me. I said ok I’m going to grab the table right in front. Due to covid-19 I figured I needed to wait outside anyway. Place is super small and only 6 customers allowed inside. I waited for a long time. The WiFi didn’t pop up so after waiting about 20 min seeing them bring out orders for customers that came after me I figured maybe they forgot mine. No they did not forget mine. I walked inside and the girl who helped me had someone pull my coffee out from a small fridge. I asked if it was sitting there and she said “I didn’t know where you went”Very hard to believe considering I was right in front of their window and she brought out everyone’s order but mine. Not only was that unfair but even asking her if I could use the WiFi she didn’t give me the password till I had asked her again for the WiFi name while I was outside. So she knew I was still there waiting for my coffee. Never again will I come to this cafe. I guess only white people are allowed in this coffee shop.

Kelly Williams is the best gelato worker. She is friendly, knows her stuff, always gives good recommendations, and lights up the room. Oh and the spicy mayan chocolate is the BEST!!!!!

Hands Down, the best place to get gelato, lattes and sandwitches!! I LOVE their lavender latte, and their Dido sandwitch. Best part of all, is that I love how they offer different gelato flavors and they are always delicious!

They make macchiatos like theyre meant to be! Strong, creamy, small! Also-- order some gelato and throw a little spoonful into the macchiato for your own take on an affogato.Of course you could also just order an affogato, but then you dont have any leftover gelato to enjoy!
