I couldn’t recommend Dr. Hamilton enough. I had SMILE surgery about 3 months ago. The surgery itself was quick and painless, andI immediately had significantly improved vision. Less than one week later, that stabilized to better-than-“perfect” vision, where it remains so today.In addition to clearly being a fantastic surgeon, he truly cares about his patients. I had two questions within the first week of post-op, and he got back to me the same day both times. He has set the bar very high for future doctors for any speciality!Thank you for giving me my vision back!

I completed the SMILE procedure with Dr.Hamilton and I’m very happy with the results!After having an unsatisfactory experience at UCLA Stein Eye Institute, I found Dr.Hamilton on google in my area as I wanted to get a second opinion to my possible options.Him and his team answered all my questions and specific concerns from start to finish.I appreciate the team’s empathic understanding to my situation and Dr.Hamilton’s expertise. He analyzed my results from UCLA compared to his own eye tests and showed me the up-to-date medical knowledge/data on what would be the best action to take.After thorough examination and explanation,I decided to proceed with the surgery. The surgery itself was quite fast and I was able to go home same-day. My vision is now 20/20 both eyes as of the post-op exam today.I highly recommend Dr.Hamilton for everyone seeking help with their vision correction or needing second opinion 🙂

Had an amazing experience with Dr. Hamilton and his office. They answered all of my questions thoughtfully and explained to me why they recommended SMILE over LASIK. I opted to go with SMILE and had my surgery yesterday. The procedure itself was quick and painless. Took a nap after the procedure like they recommended, and when I woke up, I could already see. After a full night sleep last night, I have no pain or dryness, and I’m already seeing 20:20 which we determined at my post op check today. Could not recommend Dr Hamilton enough. So happy, wish I did this years ago. Thank you Dr. Hamilton.

The staff are very friendly and knowledgable. Very punctual. And Dr Hamilton is the best!!!!!!I had my cataracts removed and had an adjustable lens implant. It will be almost 2 years now and my vision is still perfect! Did not have any problems whatsoever. Dr. Hamilton took care of my eyesight perfectly. Highly recommended!

Dr Hamilton was amazing! I had a lot of anxiety about getting laser eye surgery but after seeing how great an experience both my friend and husband had, I decided to go for it! The whole process was so easy, appointments were on time, friendly front office and staff, and have all the up to date modern technology. The actual smile procedure was incredible, it was so fast, Dr Hamilton talked through it all before and during so I knew what to expect. I knew I was in good hands! Slept through the night after the procedure and could see so clearly when I woke up next morning. I only wish I had done this sooner! Highly recommend Dr Hamilton!

Dr. Hamilton and his entire team are first class professionals. I had cataract surgery on both eyes, with intraocular lens implants. His office is very high-tech with technicians and equipment that scanned and measured every aspect of my eyes. He took the time to show me the scans and explain exactly what was going to happen in understandable terms. My vision is now 20-20 (actually a little better). I havent needed my prescription lenses or reading glasses since the day after surgery--for the first time in 45 years!

Best decision I ever made for my eyesight! I wanted to get LASIK originally but I got the SMILE procedure instead with Dr. Hamiliton. It was so easy and painless; It was done in less than 8 minutes. The next day I went snowboarding at Mammoth with no issues! Highly recommend getting your eyes with Dr. Hamilton. He will improve your life - it’s incredible to never have to think about glasses or contacts after wearing them for so many years!

I am so grateful to Doctor Hamilton, Mayra and his entire staff for providing the absolutely best care to me. I recently did Lasik and it was an incredibly easy process from start to finish. They explain everything very thoroughly and make you feel safe and comfortable. They answered all my questions (and believe me I had many!) Their office is very clean and welcoming.The day of the procedure, while I was nervous, they made me feel at ease, walked me through the process. Dr. Hamilton and his staff were exceptionally supportive in helping me resolve what I had, until connecting with them, experienced as confusing and conflicting medical advice about my choices for cataract surgery. I spent two years researching the process with visits and assessments by three other providers including one that told me I wasnt medically eligible for laser assisted treatment at all. Another left me feeling overwhelmed by options with no assurance or clarification about potential results; and with the strange feeling I was being upsold.I wanted the best results I could get and given my push for those, Dr. Hamilton recommended a procedure called Rx Site, a laser process that would amazingly allow multiple post-surgical laser-assisted adjustments which meant if it wasnt quite right, wed be able to do something about it after the lenses were installed.Rx site is a relatively expensive process so I needed to know more first. I learned everything I could about it before my final decision. Dr. Hamilton was consistently informative and helped me explore other options as well. I felt I had other directions that would also work for me. I didnt feel pressured like I had felt elsewhere.I found a discussion online about Rx Site (I am attaching the link for it below) with multiple patients online. Several of the patients understood and shared technical aspects of results. I read through it multiple times and I think for those who want to know more, this is a valuable resource for understanding this choice and factors that apply to us individually.My results were beyond my expectations. I thought I might still need glasses afterwards for reading or whatever. But I didnt and still dont. The results were simply remarkable. The night after my first surgery, my night vision was restored. And after we completed the second surgery, I had both near and far clear vision, both without glasses, an early (pre-laser-adjustment) outcome Id have to attribute to Dr. Hamiltons expertise with his initial settings for me before any subsequent adjustments.We refined this outcome with one post-op laser adjustment and then a final treatment to seal the results. I recently had LASIK surgery performed by Dr. Rex Hamilton, and it was nothing short of miraculous. For years, I depended heavily on glasses due to low astigmatism, not being able to wear contact lenses left me with few options. SMILE surgery was amazing. Quick and easy procedure. Much faster recovery than I was expecting.The day after the procedure I had perfect vision already.Recovery: I would only get very minimal dryness at the end of a long day that improved with eye drops and resolved over the course of a few weeks. Dr. Hamilton was great from the start! He explained everything from the procedure that I was a candidate for, LASIK, and how the procedure is. He made sure to answer all of my questions and assured me everything would be great. The day of the surgery everyone was very kind and helpful. What a great physician! What a great staff! I came to Dr Hamilton in bad shape visually. I had to decide -- stop driving, or fix my eyes.Since about the 5th grade (1961), I was very near sighted and had boat loads of astigmatism.Dr Hamilton prescribed a light adjustable lens implant that allowed fine tuning the prescription for weeks after surgery. After my 2nd eye was done and both eyes were working together, I went into a grocery store. It was like being in a modern grocery store for the first time in my life.I learned during this process, that optimal sight requires both a great surgeon and a doctor with great judgment. Dr. Hamilton has these qualities in spades.I now see as I did as a young child. Astigmatism gone. Vision 20/15. So far, my wife, daughter, son’s mother-in-law, lots of nurses and physicians at Cedars Sinai, and now me have all experienced great outcomes from Dr Hamilton.If you ever asked me who to go to to have your eyes fixed up, I would tell you, Dr Hamilton.

As a healthcare provider, I hesitate to leave reviews for medical practices but I feel compelled by the excellent care I am receiving from Dr. Hamilton and his team to share why you should see Dr. Hamilton for eye surgery. I work 12+ hours rotating shifts and my eyes are sensitive and susceptible to seasonal change and dry weather. Prior to surgery, I was constantly using lubricant eye drops at work and purposefully not wearing contact lens on my days off to rest my sore eyes. Today, I am nearly 3 months post-op from SMILE surgery and my quality of life has improved for the better.While I was a candidate for Lasik, I was also a candidate for SMILE and after having several consultations with eye surgeons in the LA area, I was comfortable having Dr. Hamilton perform my surgery. Simply put, Dr. Hamilton is a wizard. He is not only highly skilled, he understands how to operate the VisuMax femtosecond laser well and recognizes the different progression of recovery each patient has. Dr. Hamilton is also very kind, easy to talk to, and I knew I was in capable hands.I had a longer course of recovery, as I am dealing with dry eye syndrome (another reason why I opted for SMILE and not LASIK), and my vision is still improving. My right eye recovered much quicker than my left. This obviously made me worry even though Dr. Hamilton reassured me that my left eye would eventually catch up. He saw me right away on week 3 and week 4 when I noticed this discrepancy and he did not hesitate to professionally address my concerns - he assessed my eyes, performed corneal topography scans, went over the results in detail with me, and inserted plugs in my eyes. The halos were initially pronounced and then drastically faded over about 30 days - a month and a half later, they are absolutely minimal, especially since he started me on Cequa to help inflammation in my eyes. So far I am very happy with the results and the close communication that I have with him and his team, even though recovery took a bit longer than expected.I also want to thank his generous staff, Mayra and Jasmine. They are exceptionally friendly and accommodating, making me feel comfortable and informed throughout the entire process. I never felt rushed. They patiently answered all of my questions and addressed any concerns I had, which greatly eased any pre-surgery anxiety. Mayra was present with me through the day of surgery. She has a wealth of experience caring for surgical patients and she treated me like family.I cant thank the entire team at Hamilton Eye enough for their exceptional care and for giving me the gift of improved vision. I highly recommend Dr. Hamilton to anyone considering SMILE or any vision correction procedures.

My journey, as well as that of an old college buddy of mine, to successfully solve cataract issues in both pairs of eyes may be best summarized by borrowing a phrase from the Charles Dickens 1859 Novel, - A Tale of Two Cities -It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.Indeed, my friend and I each found doctors to perform the necessary surgeries around the same time and began our procedures within a couple of weeks of one another.I was fortunate to discover Dr. Rex Hamilton and his very competent team of professionals to perform the necessary testing and subsequent surgeries on my eyes.My friend, on the other hand, found a Medicare surgeon and had to visit more than one location to find all the people required to determine his needs. After setting up his first surgery he boasted about his out-of-pocket expenses only costing $1,000.Fast forwarding to the results after my surgeries, the vision in both eyes was exceptional. Cataract issues were completely gone. In fact, in one eye I measured 20-10 and could read the smallest paragraph on a handheld chart which I was not supposed to be able to read at all. I was half-jokingly told that I was Jet Fighter Pilot level. The other eye was also cataract free, and all related issues were gone. I suspect that if someone had gone in the neighboring room, and held up a random number of fingers, that I could have seen through the wall to correctly read that as well.My college friend did each of his eyes months apart. After the first surgery, the cataracts seemed to have gone away, but he had trouble driving because he now had double vision. The doctors response, It will go away with time.I advised my friend to go to Dr. Hamilton and not take a chance on his second eye.My advice was ignored. I had certainly forgotten the small cost and that the double vision would go away!He later had the second Medicare surgery, and the cataract symptoms did go away. But then he had worse double vision and dared not drive at night. And of course he was told again, The double vision will go away. To him, the double vision was a matter of the brain getting used to the new eye mechanics.After more than 6 months he clings to the hope that the problems will go away. And secretly he probably wishes he had taken my advice.So as Charles Dickens might have written in a sequel:- A tale of two pairs of cataract surgeries -It was the best of eye doctors, it was the worst of eye doctors.As for me, in a postscript:After investigating, I was told by the Air Force that, although my vision is indeed exceptional, I am regrettably too old to join the ranks of Jet Fighter Pilots. But I have recently learned that there is an Historical Fountain of Youth in Florida. I am planning on finding it and drinking its waters. Doctor Hamilton and his team were amazing from beginning to end. I received a Reflective Lens Exchange (RLE) due to not being able to see close up. I could get by with reading glasses, but they were not comfortable while Im at work as a hair stylist. Doctor Hamilton has corrected my vision to be nearly 20/20. I am now able to read and work without glasses and can still see far away distances perfectly when driving. He answered any and all questions I had, and made sure I knew exactly what was going to happen and what results to expect. I got SMILE on 5/31/24 and the whole process from consultation to post-op was incredible. I felt SO comfortable, the Dr. took a ton of time to explain everything and answer all my questions. Every single member of the staff reassured me and explained everything thoroughly.I’d originally gone to Maloney-Shamie institute for a consult which was $200 just to see if I was eligible for LASIK and they don’t offer SMILE. I also didn’t see Maloney or Shamie and the vibes were just off. I did some research and found Dr. Hamilton and I am SO happy I went for a consult with them. The consult was free but I also just felt way more considered and Dr. Hamilton wasn’t rushing me or pushing me to commit.The procedure itself was SO fast and easy. I didn’t feel any pain or discomfort. I got the surgery, went home, took the nap and when I woke up all the grainy/burning sensation was gone. The day after and my eyes don’t hurt they’re a little foggy and dry but I expect that to clear up in a week! So far I am beeeyond happy I opted to do SMILE with Dr. Hamilton.

I’ve waited so long to do laser vision correction, just kept making excuses. Then the whole surgery took 8 min for both eyes. My only regret is not doing it sooner. Dr. Hamilton was so awesome from start to finish. During the consultation he will walk you through all the different vision correction options to ensure the best option for you. Not only is he very knowledgeable about the LASIK/SMILE surgery options but he is also a very kind person who made me feel at ease throughout my consult, preop and operation. He and his staff were also very clear about setting expectations for how my eyes would feel and what my vision would be like immediately after and the days following the surgery. Because of the difference in downtime I opted for the SMILE operation and couldn’t be happier with my results. If I had to do it all again I would absolutely go with Dr. Hamilton.

Regardless of professional ability or attitude, Dr. Hamilton is the best doctor.My mother and I both discovered cataracts during our recent eye exams, and as diabetics, we are very concerned about future risks. Therefore, we did some research to find a good doctor. Fortunately, we found Dr. Hamilton, who devised a great plan for us. My vision for both distance and reading improved to 20/20 the day after the surgery, far exceeding my expectations. What do you get when you cross the brilliance of Tony Stark, the human skills of a peace negotiator, and the precision of a Swiss watchmaker? Dr. Rex Hamilton.No, the above is not a joke. I researched eye surgeons across the US. I settled upon Dr. Hamiltons office based on his education, his prior results, his excellent staff, and his low-key style. He lets his prior customers do the talking and not his relationship with the Kardashians or whoever.I am a year out from my surgery and I have zero complaints. Only excellence. Several people have complimented me on my excellent eyesight. No, I didnt give Dr. Hamilton any credit because, well, ego (mine).Is my vision absolutely perfect? No but the very modest limitations are strictly in line (and less) with what Dr. Hamilton and his staff informed me well in advance of me making the decision to proceed.If I had to make this decision again, what would I do it? I absolutely would proceed and definitely with Dr. Hamiltons office.

I had LASIK 10+ years ago and went to Dr. Hamilton to see what I could do to recurrent my vision. Dr. Hamilton performed a refractive lens exchange surgery on both eyes separately. The post op period was relatively easy. And my vision in my right eye is better than it ever was, even after LASIK. Highly recommend his office and staff.

I know Dr. Hamilton and have been his patient since 2008 when he performed laser eye surgery on me. My vision reached 20/20 in both eyes even though my case was a difficult one and other ophthalmologists had told me that I might never reach 20/20 vision. Dr. Hamilton handled my case with great care and precision and I achieved 20/20 vision in both eyes without glasses/contacts. Came in to look into laser surgery for my severe near sightedness. I was legally blind meaning I really could not do or see anything without strong corrective glasses or contact lenses and Ive been that way since 4th grade. After 30 odd years, Id had enough.I went to Dr. Hamilton, had the consult, and was pointed towards SMILE surgery as the best option for me. Getting everything set up and scheduled was easy, with helpful text message reminders of upcoming appointments. Dr. Hamilton and the staff are great, and the offices are pleasant and comfortable.The day of surgery was very easy, with a surprisingly quick, totally painless procedure. Now, three months later, Im 20/15 in both eyes, and could not be happier with the outcome. Recovery was a breeze, I was able to 100% return to normal life within 48 hours of the procedure with near perfect vision. Minor stuff like very mild, sporadic dry eyes were gone within a week or two. I literally climbed a high altitude mountain 6 weeks after the procedure and it was glorious to not have to screw around with contact lenses or glasses while camping and hiking. I strongly recommend Dr. Hamilton and his staff if youre looking at corrective eye surgery. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

Post procedure my eyesight is better than 20/20. I do NOT have “DRY EYES” or itchy eyes at all. I opted for the “Smile” procedure. My quality of life has been tremendously enhanced thanks to this 30 min procedure.(Below is my experience and why I would recommend Dr. Hamilton and would recommend anyone interested to “pull the trigger” on it)Worth it. Yes, even though it is on the pricey side of purchases it was 100% worth it. Starting off with the staff at the location. The staff is very professional and kind which is hard to find at most businesses especially in California. Although there this is a business they treated me above and beyond the standard. I felt confident in the staff and Doctor to perform their duties. They proved this by answering questions and displaying the steps and procedures for the process. If you have any doubts please go in and get a consultation done, you will see the amount of knowledge as well as the quality of their work. The only difficult part of this process is taking the steps forward towards getting this procedure done. Without a doubt it is very expensive. For most people cost is where we draw the line. With that said I would have payed more knowing now how amazing it turned out. I did other consultations but was either not impressed with the Doctor or was not impressed with the staff. I had SMILE with Dr. Hamilton at the end of last year and am still thrilled with the results. I had lived with a strong glasses and contacts prescription since elementary school, which was a constant annoyance between athletics, long outdoor trips, and the daily hassle of handling contacts. Now I cant believe I didnt get this done earlier!I consulted with several laser eye centers in LA before my surgery, and of all the places I visited Dr. Hamilton felt the most assuring and least like a sales pitch. SMILE eye surgery is single-handedly, undeniably the best decision I have ever made for my eyes, and I wish I had done it sooner. I was initially hesitant because I wasn’t informed about the procedure or its safety. However, Dr. Hamilton was phenomenal throughout the process and earned my complete trust. During the consultation he assessed my eyes, walked me through the procedure, and explained how to take care of my eyes post-op. I felt comfortable knowing I was in good hands. The procedure itself was only about 5 minutes for both eyes, and there was little down time. They numbed the eyes and there was absolutely no pain, just slight pressure. I went home and took a nap after the surgery, and I felt little to no discomfort on the eyes. I was perfectly okay the very next day, and I suddenly had perfect vision. I had PRK with Dr. Hamilton 5 years ago when he was at UCLA and am still happy with the result. I was -7 in both eyes before surgery and today still see 20/20 in both eyes. My only problem is continued dry eyes, which I manage with lubricant gel at night. I was informed of this risk before surgery. Despite the dry eyes, I have no regrets since my quality of life is much better not having to wear glasses/contacts. If I needed eye surgery again, I would return to Dr. Hamilton.

I cant say enough good things about Dr. Hamilton. I have had vision problems for most of my life, and finally decided to get permanent vision correction last year. I was having double vision and was facing a second strabismus surgery (which requires full sedation and a much longer recovery) when I made an appointment at UCLA Stein Eye Institute to discuss vision correction surgery. My case was too complicated for any of the surgeons there to take it on, but they recommended I go see Dr. Hamilton who is one of the most highly regarded in his field. I had been interested in getting laser eye surgery for years, and finally committed to doing it when I got a recommendation from another eye doctor I trusted. I just had Dr. Hamilton perform SMILE surgery for vision correction in April of this year (2021) and I would recommend his practice for anyone in the Los Angeles area who is thinking about corrective eye surgery. I first learned of Dr. Hamilton when I was a student at UCLA and he was the director of the UCLA Laser Refractive Center. Since then, hes moved to a private practice just down the street and gets to focus more on performing surgeries. He takes the time to make sure you understand the different options available to you, answers every question you have to make sure youre comfortable with your decision, and walks you through the surgery that only takes a few minutes from start to finish. I had my appointment on a Monday afternoon and was back at work in the office by Tuesday morning. There was slight blurriness the first few days but my vision completely corrected to 20/20 in about a week. Honestly cant recommend Dr. Hamilton enough. When I began thinking about getting corrective surgery, I scheduled consultations at three different facilities. Rex Hamiltons office was the smallest facility I visited, but by the end of my consultation it was a clear standout. Out of the three facilities, Dr. Hamilton was the only surgeon who personally met with me. At the other locations I was only met by the surgeons associates. As a result the care at Rexs office felt more personal, like a local family doctors office. This level of care really showed after my pre-op, where Dr. Hamilton discovered an abnormality in my scans that none of the facilities caught. He found early signs of glaucoma, which is now something I know to keep an eye out for in the years ahead. A week after my first visit, I ended up going through with S.M.I.L.E surgery, which Dr. Hamilton recommended over L.A.S.I.K in my case. The surgery went through without a hitch, and it was a lot less stressful than I thought it was going to be. The operation only lasted 4 minutes per eye, and it was painless (at most, it felt like someone was putting in a contact lens for a few minutes). Its been a week since the surgery, my recovery is going well, and I can see without glasses for the first time in 20 years :)

I have nothing but amazing things to say about Dr. Hamilton and his team. I have worn glasses since I was 8 years old and contacts since probably around 13 years old. (I am 43 now for reference). My prescription was -12 in my left eye and -11 in my right eye with a stigmatism. Basically, if I didnt have my glasses on or my contacts in, I was blind as a bat but without the benefit of echolocation. For years, whenever I wore my glasses (if I had to) people would say OMG! Youre glasses are so thick! etc. etc. I KNOW! I LIVE WITH THESE EYES. I had been toying around with the idea of eye surgery since 2003. Originally, I was thinking Lasik but after many consultations, I was just too nearsighted. My only real option was a lens implant (EVO ICL). But the ophthalmologist that I consulted in 2003 suggested I wait a little bit for the surgery to get more refined. Well, the final straw came in October when I was on a trip with my mom. My right contact ripped and I forgot to bring a backup. I had to wear my glasses. In the rain. Riding a horse. I said forget it--its time. I had my consultation with Dr. Hamilton and was impressed. Being a nurse, I wanted to do my due diligence and get other opinions/consults. NOBODY came close to Dr. Hamilton and his staff. From the consult to the pre-op to the surgery to the post-op everything was top notch. Ive been a nurse for over 20 years and am very picky about surgery centers, IV starts, patient education, etc and the entire team did an amazing job. Dr. Hamilton came to check in on me before surgery and asked how I was doing, if I was worried about anything. I asked him what if he sneezed while he was working on my eye and accidentally lasered my eye out? I was half kidding but half serious and Dr. Hamilton laughed but then realized that my joke was probably not totally a joke and he turned serious and told me that wouldnt happen because of X, Y, Z. Incredible bedside manner. Dr. Tim was the anesthesiologist and administered the perfect amount of meds. Dr. Tim was so friendly and kind. I didnt feel anything during the surgery and wasnt nauseated afterwards (I am a lightweight so nausea happens frequently to me!). Jasmyn and Myra were so helpful at every step of the way. And let me tell you! After the surgery. I. COULD. SEE. IMMEDIATELY. Immediately! Sure, it wasnt perfect because my eyes were as dilated as saucers but for the first time in 35 years, I COULD SEE! I didnt feel any pain at all, just the occasional fleeting sensation of like an eyelash in my eye. I woke up the next morning and felt like a character in a Dr. Seuss Book. I can see the tree! Dr. Hamilton took the time to explain every thing and further more executed the surgeries with precision and ease. I cant say enough ! I had no idea how much I was missing with the cataracts. I was diagnosed with cataracts in late fall of 2014 by my optometrist during a routine screening for my glasses. My physician confirmed the diagnosis and referred me to Dr. Hamilton who confirmed the diagnosis again and recommended lens replacement using multi focal length (if I have the term right) lenses. The procedure costs more but is well worth it. Four years post surgery - actually a quite simple procedure - I have 20/20 vision both near and far with no night vision problems nor reading problems. I am 71 and pretty damn happy about the whole thing. Thank you Rex Hamilton.Hes also a great guy although when looking for eye surgeons thats probably not the most important thing - consider it a bonus.

This is crazy! Less than 24 hours ago I had cataract surgery in my left eye with Dr. David Rex Hamilton. The right eye was operated on 11 days earlier. He used the FEMTO laser and the Symfony lens. I am now reading 5 point type without glasses! I can see close, middle and far already.I am an artist and for the last 10 years I have been suffering from increasingly blurred vision. It had gotten to the point where I was unable to keep focus on my detailed work even with prescription lenses.I was totally freaked out about the idea of anyone touching my eyes but also afraid about my deteriorating eyesight and what it would mean to my work. My friend told me about the wonderful results she had had with Dr. Hamilton and I finally decided it was time to do something.From our fist meeting I had complete confidence in him. I met with Dr. Hamilton at his new office at the Santa Monica Eye Med Group and had my surgery at the UCLA Stein Center.Dr. Hamilton explained everything that would happen and what to expect. The surgery itself was not painful, although I was scared s___less! I am following the schedule for administrating eye drops several times a day…and that’s about it. My eye is red but not really anything anyone would notice. My first eye is completely healed. I have better than 20/20 vision now - measured about 20/15 one day post-op. The indescribable feeling of having that acuity in my own eyes aside, the surgery experience was fantastic. In fact, it was pretty cool. Not only that but I returned to work the next morning with no issues and my eyes felt totally back to normal 3-4 days after the surgery (except for some night vision starbursts which is getting better). I had LASIK.Dr. Hamilton was terrific. I needed this surgery soon to be eligible for pilot boards in the spring, and Dr. Hamilton changed his schedule to accommodate this so I could go in sooner, on short notice, without me asking. He was also very patient and helped me decide on the right procedure. You can tell he has a passion for what he does (he has published over 40 publications over the past 25 years on laser eye surgery), is a master at it, and he is a great guy to talk to!The experience:- During the first consultation, I met with Dr. Hamilton face-to-face. He answered my very long list of questions about SMILE vs LASIK, what machines he uses (the latest), his experience, etc. He studied engineering in the past so he showed me his performance data in a spreadsheet that he uses to fine tune the laser based on past data (he showed me that 60% of his patients see 20/16 or better after surgery). As an engineer myself, this made me feel very comfortable about doing it.- Before the surgery he told me exactly what to expect, which was calming, and throughout the surgery, he told me exactly what to do, which was very simple. It was remarkably easy and painless and I was out it what felt like 10 minutes, feeling like I was 8 again with perfect vision. The entire time I was in the room I was in awe of the machine and just seeing the process in front of me that was correcting my vision so quickly. It was so amazing.- Once you wake up for the first time after surgery you have a Spiderman moment where you try to put on your glasses and realize you can see perfectly without them. And then youre just in awe.

Dr. Hamilton did my cataract surgery a couple of years ago and beside an impressive skill level, I found him compassionate and warm. All my questions were answered and my patient care was excellent. That was at UCLA. Now hes in private practice and I have a feeling he has more leeway to really get to know his patients which seems to make a difference. I went for a yearly check up and found him friendly and approachable. I definitely recommend him...his new staff is also efficient and kind.

Dr. Hamilton is by far the best doctor anyone could have to do their eye surgery. I researched Ophthalmologists throughout L.A. County, read his bio (plus he was the Chief of Laser refractive center at UCLAs Jules Stein Institute) and was sold! Dr. Hamilton did my cataract surgery 2 1/2 years ago - and I have bionic vision! He used symfony toric lens and I can see near, far and on the computer. Not only is he brilliant - he loves technology and is proficient with the latest and greatest - but he is also kind, patient and has a wonderful sense of humor. He spends time to explain and review everything. I have the utmost confidence in him! He just completed my husbands cataract surgery which was more complex due to Lasik surgery 20 years prior. I got my vision corrected through SMILE with Dr. Hamiton four months ago and I couldnt be happier. My prescription was pretty bad, like 5.5 in each eye, but I was also concerned about side effects of eye surgery such as dry eyes, or just the procedure going wrong altogether and ending up blind. I chose SMILE over LASIK because of the absence of flap-related complications but still had concerns due to it being a pretty recent procedure. I had a consultation with another doctor in LA that offered SMILE but I could only talk to one of his assistants and the whole thing sounded more like a marketing speech. In contrast, Dr. Hamilton walked me through each option and explained why LASIK wouldnt be good for me because of my thin corneas (which the other office said I could do even after measuring them). He also let me have a look at an Excel spreadsheet he kept to track how all his surgeries went, such as how many had 20/20 vision after the procedure and so on. Regarding side effects, I have experienced neither halos nor dry eyes. My night vision is perhaps not as great as it used to be but its really just when Im home without lights on that I can notice it, driving is fine. Thanks doctor! -- Hoa

Doing the SMILE procedure with Dr. Hamilton was the BEST decision I could have made for myself….it was easy and painless and my only regret is I didn’t do it sooner! I was a slave to my contacts and glasses. With a -3.75 in each eye my fear was being marooned in a desert island and only having 2 weeks (in my contacts) before I was low man on the totem pole. I had vision correction done by Dr. Hamilton a few years ago when he was still at UCLA. I’d asked around for recommendations and everyone kept saying to go see Dr. Hamilton, so of course I had to go to him. He recommended LASIK in one eye and SMILE in the other. One of my friends who is an optometrist on the East Coast was worried when I told her I was having SMILE done in one eye because at the time it was still relatively new. When I told her Dr. Hamilton was doing it, she changed her mind and said it’d be fine. So clearly the best here. The procedure itself was completely painless and Dr. Hamilton told me exactly what to expect as I was going through the process. There was some discomfort after for the first 6 hours after, with the LASIK side being more intense, but I had perfect vision out of that eye by the next day. The SMILE took a little longer to catch up. I could see pretty well at one week but it wasn’t completely clear until a few weeks later. Ultimately, I see better than 20/20 now!

Had dry eye. Was between situations and didnt have insurance but was desperate for relief. Saw Dr. Hamilton who put some plugs in to stop tears from draining. Cost $500 which, sure, is fine. Plugs didnt work because they were inserted wrong or wrong sizing. Doctor wanted to charge me another $500 to put in some plugs that have worked for me in the past. Charging twice for the same thing is ridiculous and seems a bit avaricious.Dont know what price the doc buys the plugs for, but I went to another eye doc and got it done for half the price.... and they worked perfectly on the first try.

I am a professional pilot, and therefore my eyesight is critical to my career. I am also an attorney, which means I paid a boatload of money to learn how to perform accurate, in-depth research. I spent a lot of hours over the last ten plus years determining what it would mean to get Visian ICL, and whether or not it was safe enough and accurate enough. I also spent a great deal of time researching which surgeon I could trust with such an important procedure.Dr. Hamiltons name came up again and again. My normal eye doctor, also a pilot, recommended him highly and after I realized he was the cream of the crop, I made the appointment.Dr. Hamilton, Mayra, and the rest of the staff listened, made me feel cared for, explained in detail what to expect, took any concerns I had seriously, and gave me all the tools I needed to make a decision. I went ahead with the ICL.The day of the surgery went smoothly, as had all my appointments. The anesthesiologist took the time to speak with me and explain more about what the day would be like. I went in, was sedated, apparently snored so... theres that. And woke up with amazing vision! Of course, right after your eyes are ready to rest and its not til a bit later that you get to experience the full incredible results, but you can tell right away that you are about to have an extraordinary experience.His price was right in line with what I found online, and more importantly, worth every penny! He wasnt the most expensive but not the least expensive. But you dont want to cheap out on your eyesight! Youll pay the right amount and probably giggle like a school girl for days after, if you are anything like me. I still marvel as I look outside and realize these are MY eyeballs doing this! My brain still tells me to take out my contacts or remove my glasses before bed or the shower each day, because clearly this isnt my vision! Incredible results and the easiest process! I went in for a consultation and was recommended the SMILE procedure. 2 weeks later I was in surgery which took a total of 45 minutes in the office - 5 mins for the actual surgery time! My dad was mad he didnt have time to grab coffee it was so fast! Immediate results too - I could almost perfectly just a few hours later and now its 20/15. I cant believe I waited so long to get the procedure! Would recommend for everyone.

Rex did my cataract surgery over 10 years ago. He just introduced me to durysta for my glaucoma instead of using daily eye drops. Now I have an inplant which automatically releases the daily drop which is great. No more daily drops no more sore and irritable eyes. I am the type of person that does allll the research before anything and probably even more for this procedure since we’re talking about eyes. I mean we only get two and we don’t wanna mess with them! Needless to say I made the right choice with choosing Dr. Rex Hamilton! He is the absolute best!
