They have an incredible selection of comics and a good amount of games. It was a test of willpower not to buy so many things. They seem to have something for everyone - kids, teens, adults. I appreciate that they had lgbtq themed comics, albeit a seemingly tiny section in the very back - maybe there were more selections throughout? In any case, definitely check this place out.

I love this store! They have a huge manga selection, MtG & other TCGs, Settlers of Catan/Pathfinders Sourcebooks/other board games & RPGs, and tons of comics -- both new titles and backissues. Theyve always been happy to order me titles that arent in-stock and shoot me a notification once theyre in. Definitely worth at least a visit!

I absolutely love this shop. The game selection here is very good and varied for how much space they can devote to tabletop games. Im not much of a comic collector but I do occasionally read graphic novels and this store has such an awesome selection of them to check out. I always leave with something I didnt expect to purchase walking in there. The owner is super friendly and knowledgeable about everything he sells. So go nerd out with him and pick up something cool that you didnt even know you needed in your life.

This used to be THE spot to go in Piedmont. So many hours (and dollars) spent here over the years without a single regret. Im not sure what happened to this place, but I dont think Ill ever be back. I came in here with a buddy to spend some time talking shop and buy some books and figures when one of the employees asked us to put masks on. I pointed out that there was no mandate anymore and hadnt been for months. They told me that individual businesses can still enforce their own mask mandate if they wanted to. At that point we just left, well take our business elsewhere. Why would you want to mandate your customers wear masks? You dont want your customers to have an enjoyable experience in your shop? You just want to punish them like some kind of sadist who gets off on creating misery? I could see if there was a mandate in effect that they had to abide by, but this was a policy of their own choosing. Most businesses celebrate when pandemics end and mandates are lifted, but this place wants to get upset that things are back to normal? I dont get it. If youre looking for awesome comic shops, try Crush Comics in Castro Valley or Flying Colors Comics in Concord. Either one will give you a much better experience than this place sadly.

This is hands down my favorite board game store. Every person is able to give really great recommendations— whether it’s “I need a game for my parents who don’t like boardgames”, “I’m looking for something new for my boardgame group and we already love ___”, or “I need something work-appropriate that can play 8 people” (all of which I’ve asked and they delivered). They also have really cool D&D dice, including some experimental cheesex sets that are still in beta! Overall, just a really fantastic store.

Has a lot of stuff but the manager lady or whatever is rude. She wouldn’t let a 14 yr old buy a 15+ Attack On Titan manga, and when the teenager said she’s bought the same 15+ series before the woman asked her what the employee that sold her the book looked like, putting a lot of pressure on the kid.

Honestly. This deserves 5 stars. The guy working was amazing friendly and knew his stuff!! They store looked fantastic full of comics and games. A lot of game stores are either few games and lots of comics or the other way around but this was a seriously nice spot. I highly recommend to anyone thinking whether to stop by or not, DO IT! you will not regret it.

They have a large selection that is pretty good. I can never seen to find recent back issues because theyre not ducked with the new releases, but maybe thats just my fault. Game selection is okay. Not as good as a dedicated game store, but way better than Target or other department stores. Lots of geeky gift items and collectibles. Employees are very nice!

I have been frequenting this shop for my board game and comic book fix for over 20 years, this is an important staple of the Piedmont Ave neighborhood. This staff are friendly, helpful, and informative, and they always go above and beyond. They bring in new stock regularly, and will order things for you if they dont have it in stock. This is one of my favorite spots.

Ive been reading and collecting comic books for decades. This is one of those shops that all nerds will feel at home. Theyre unpretentious, friendly and non-judgmental. They have pretty much every book and graphic novel you can think of. Its a great place to browse and discover new stuff and the staff will give you enthusiastic recommendations about anything in the store. I know a lot of these specialty stores can make you feel out of place, but these guys are really genuinely friendly, albeit a bit shy sometimes - just like their customers.

Knowledgeable staff with a wide selection of games. If they dont have the game you want, theyll order it! The window display is always beautiful. They often host community events to promote love of tabletop games! If youre on Piedmont ave, you should definitely swing by and pick up a game to play in the park.

Great customer service. Larger and better staff than other comic stores, who are very nice and knowledgeable.They have a great comic inventory from many publishers, back issues, trades, manga, clothes, toys, figures and a large selection of board games. Quite a diverse offering. They will set aside your favorites for you to collect in your own folder if you ask, and special order merchandise for you.There is a board game playtime upstairs during certain hours.They have a prime spot in the middle of Piedmont avenue, one of Oaklands most attractive commercial districts so you can do lots of other kinds of shopping on the same trip.Ive been a regular for many years and my kids will be too.

However, I was also busy acquiring comics while I was there during the Free Comic Day celebration. Ill probably stop by Dr. Comics & Mr. Games one of these days. I came here cause its my local game shop and wanted to support them, but honestly, they were uninformed about stuff I thought should be second nature (Games of Berkeley knew immediately what I wanted), they didnt have common gaming items in stock, and I never felt welcomed (and Im easy, I dont expect adulation) but a signal that youve been noticed goes a long way. When I was eventually approached the person seemed like it was a chore for her to be asking if I needed anything. Ill try and support them, but it felt like going to a gaming store staffed with just people earning a wage and not actual gamers. Maybe its more comic centric. I dont know.

Dr. Mr. is a neighborhood institution, with walls full of comics of all types (big two, image and other smaller pubs, indie, manga...), from new releases to back issues to trades. They also have a strong games (as you might guess from the name). Their staff are friendly and as a team can help recommend something based on what you like/are looking for, and are happy to tell you what theyve been reading/playing if you ask. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately was racially profiled here, the staring was so hostile from one of the staff members that the younger kid helping me find a manga they didn’t have looked up and said “do you need something”. Poor kid, even he knew the situation is messed up. I want small businesses like this to thrive but I won’t tolerate bad behavior.

The most stressful shopping experience Ive had shopping for comics. The coolest of the workers is the short haired caucasion girl as she tends to have a kinder and more viby tone. The asian man comes second due to not communicating with him all that much but he works hard and gets things done quick. The rest of the workers... ehhhhhhhhhhhhh, not that nice honestly. I get an air of snobbiness everytime I bring anything in there to sell, they barely look through what I bring, and then give me a condescending alternative sale location :...maybe to half price books in Berkeley one guy said with a smirk.I really like the selection at this store and the way its set up inside, but I avoid even walking on that side of the road just so I can escape the Im much cooler than you glares.I hope Im misjudging and that the 4 or 5 times in a row this has happened were just the result of a couple bad days...
