Working with Alan has been life changing for both my High School daughter and younger son - and for our family as a whole. My daughter struggled with ADHD and anxiety, while attending a very challenging private school in La Jolla. He has helped her with content (Chem, Bio and Math, primarily), but most importantly, has taught her how to study, organize and prepare for exams as well as how to self-advocate with teachers. Her confidence has gone through the roof both academically and personally, as has her academic performance and overall self-esteem. It has also allowed us as her parents to get out of the contentious interactions we used to have over homework that always ended up with yelling and tears. With our son, who is only in 6th grade (and didnt like school / struggles with writing), Alan has helped him to navigate MS and focuses on his many strengths. As a result, he feels smart and proud for the first time and is knocking the lights out at his private school. However, the thing that is the most incredible about Alan is that he legitimately cares about the kids and how they are doing - not just in school but in sports and life in general. I truly cannot say enough about how special he is - what a blessing and worth every dollar of investment.

Alan Dow has been the educational coach to my high school aged daughter for the 2022-2023 school year. My daughter has learning issues associated with dyslexia and processing speed. For a student with learning difficulties, self confidence is a big problem and Alan’s confident style of teaching evokes confidence in my daughter to face difficult topics head-on. Alan has both the breadth and depth of knowledge to teach across any high school subject and teaches them with ease; subjects school year that he primarily focused on with my daughter were math, chemistry, and occasionally history and English too.Alan understands that successful learning is meeting the student where they are at. He has the ability to adapt to different learning styles. We saw this firsthand when after the initial few sessions, he adjusted his style quite dramatically to better suit my daughter’s needs.Alan has contributed greatly to a new trajectory for my daughter’s future, one where my daughter has a love of learning and the confidence to be successful in tackling difficult things. I highly recommend Alan as a person with a strong character and great coaching abilities.

Alan came into our home and provided Orton-Gillingham methodologies, which led to a dramatic improvement in our sons academic performance. Within a few sessions, we could see the progress. Our teenage daughter has been working with Steve for about 6 months. We can’t say enough how much we appreciate all the work he’s done with her. We originally hired Dow Educational Solutions to help with honors chemistry material. However, Steve’s expertise in academic and college counseling expanded our relationship into weekly sessions where he impacted our daughter’s overall performance in all other classes. As a result, she ended up with a 4.2 GPA in the second semester, going from a 3.4 GPA in the first semester before we hired Steve. He improved not only her academic performance but also her overall time management skills. He’s involved now in helping her choose a college and set long term and short term goals. We’ll be using him next year for sure. Not only he is knowledgeable in his work but he truly cares about his clients. It really shows and it’s a pleasure to have him work with our whole family.

After getting rejected from my dream college in high school, I found mentorship from Steven Dow to re-apply as a transfer student. With his help, I turned my entire application around and was accepted to the University of Southern California. Though we only worked together for a few months, his encouragement helped me feel confident in my achievements and abilities. Stevens experience, knowledge, and professionalism was beyond valuable in the college application process. Ive been going to Steven Dow for all my educational needs for years now. We first started working together while I was an undergrad Biology major in college, and now I am in an MBA Graduate Program thanks to his help!Steven not only helped me with tutoring in many science subjects, but he also mentored me through big life decisions. He guided me by helping me narrow down my career interests, and shared his own real life experiences for me to learn from.Steven helped me with internship searches, job searches, applications, resume building, cover letter writing, assembling letters of recommendation, and most recently with the GMAT standardized test so I could get my Masters in Business Administration. My daughter recently studied with Dow Educational Solutions in preparation for the ACT. Steven helped her to effectively manage her time while taking the test and reviewed key areas covered on the test including teaching her math concepts she had not yet learned in school. He was punctual, professional, and thorough. Upon completing several sessions she successfully took the ACT and reached her set goal on the first try. I highly recommend Dow Educational Solutions for any student wanting to up his/her test scores.

Dow Educational Solutions has been a great asset to my family. They help my stepson at UC San Diego in the areas of Engineering, Chemistry, and Biology. Alan has also been helping my college-bound daughter navigate the minefields of Tier 1 Research University financial aid. I wish we had hired DowEdu earlier in the SAT test prep and college application process. You would be astonished by what high school counselors don’t know about financial aid. Don’t leave it to chance if your child needs tutoring or college guidance. My money was well spent.

Alan’s exceptional academic coaching has helped me improve my math grades and improve my approach to the academic world. He was able to help me transition from a military lifestyle to a student veteran succeeding in higher education. This man single handedly brought me back to life after dealing with depression and all that comes with it for 23 years. He lost so much so early on in his life... Yet he came back stronger and has now dedicated his life to making sure the students in our community succeed. Truly a man with a beautiful heart. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Steve.
