Definitely a great taco shop by the ocean. You can get a beer battered fish taco for under four bucks. The operators were really nice and I’m gonna go back and try more of their dishes and I will update this as I go.

Epic in all ways. Fantastic food. The best fish tacos in town! Super fresh and flavorful. Salsas are top shelf - and so are the views of the Pacific! I drive 20min just to go here. Friendly staff and everything they make is tasted out for sure!!! This is one of my top three taco shops in SD. Fantastic patio with wonderful views of the ocean. Full bar too for a quick buzz. If you are serious about your Mexi, this is the spot!!

Note for next time/other vegans: swap the sour cream and cheese on the potato burrito for rice and beans (asked and this is allowed).Love that there is a vegetarian section of the menu. I was hoping to switch the sour cream and cheese for potato on the veggie burrito, but they said it wasn’t possible. Instead got the surfer gigante burrito without sour cream and cheese, which cost $1.50 more ($11.99). Didn’t love the whole wheat tortilla — it kind of cracked and crumbled. The potatoes were great though, appreciated that they weren’t French fries. The burrito felt a little “empty”/not wrapped as tight as I would have hoped. Was warm on the inside at least (looking at you Don Carlos).

A classic Bird Rock institution that’s been around for decades. The food is great and the salsas are even better! I love the habanero and tomatillo salsas so much here. The chicken and lobster tacos are super flavorful and juicy as well. As you eat, you can sit on the back porch and see the Pacific Ocean! They even have a food truck in their parking lot that serves other off-menu items like menudo and pozole. This is a great option for Mexican in Bird Rock/North Pacific Beach!

I thought it was very good.Its a good size, and one of the things thats nice about this location is that its in a very small busy luxe area with beautiful nature all around, the ocean and wonderful places to explore.This is an easy way to get decent food and also it has a porch in the back that overlooks the ocean and is a very good spot strategically if you want a nice view.I enjoyed the burrito and I think I would get the mahi-mahi burrito next and I would go back. Every time Im in San Diego, I stop here for the best fish tacos of my life. These pictures are almost 2 year apart, and the tacos taste exactly the same. My wife got an Enchilada plate and loved it (though she would have like more cheese, but were originally from Wisconsin so there you go). You will NOT be disappointed coming to Don Bravo. Simply the best.

I’ve been going here yearly for over 5 years. I used to stick to their rolled tacos, which were always tender and flavorful. Since expanding my pallet, I was interested to try their tacos. Went with the carne asada taco, it was alright. Beef could have had more flavor.My partner got the torta & it was very good! This place is a go to spot for me if ever in the birdrock/windansea area.

The portions are small for the prices . i got a burrito and a super nacho and it cost me almost $50?? the lady at cash register was irritated and bad vibe energy and then the burrito was small and so were the nachos. honestly im a bit dissapointed with this spot and this is not the 1st time ive had a less than ideal experience here. i wont be visiting this place again.

The food was terrible the employees were rude, I nicely told them that my order was messed up and they argued the point that they knew what I said when I ordered. Then was given attitude about fixing the issue. Very pricey for what you get, don’t waste your time. Vacation allot in San Diego and will never eat here again!!! Popped in here for an early dinner having driven by and caught the eye.Ordered 3 tacos,rice and chips between 2 of us. Tacos were Shrimp, Mahi Mahi and Beef. All excellent. Sat on the terrace at the back overlooking the car park but don’t let that put you off. It wasn’t packed but there was a steady stream of customers.

Hubby found this place while on business, highly recommended by local residents. We went twice in one week on our family vaca, everyone liked their food selections - my fried fish taco special was delish, kids had street tacos and quesadillas, hubbys fave are fish tacos. Excellent fresh salsas, variety of drinks, indoor and outdoor seating, quick service. Will visit again when in town!

They don’t have the lobster burrito anymore, so there aren’t a lot of redeeming qualities for me anymore. I got a Cali burrito - cheese wasn’t melted, fries weren’t salted. So it was lukewarm and bland. The carne asada was seasoned well. The workers moved fast and have great customer service.

Don Bravo Grill and Cantina in the Birdrock neighborhood serves my favorite traditional Baja-style fish taco in San Diego. I know this because Ive had a gazillion others this year leading up to my #SummerOfTastyTacos.Here are a few things that make this godly fried fish taco one of the very best you can buy in America:* The flaky piece of mild white fish they use is both gigantic and delicious* Fried in canola oil, the fishs beer-batter is dark, thick, and crunchy, like the kind youd expect at a fish and chips shop in London. It is distinctly superior to any other rendered batter Ive had in the region* The ratio of toppings-to-fish was perfect. Here, toppings include red cabbage, white cabbage, a rich and creamy white sauce, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro.* The corn tortilla, while not made in-house, was sweet, thick, somewhat pleasant, and was not distractingly bad like so many others leveraged in other fish tacos around town. By the way, not too many places are making their own tortillas for their fish tacos in San Diego, so its difficult to hold that against Don Bravo.My biggest complaint? Although the chipotle salsa at the salsa bar had great flavor, I would need to pour a tub of it onto my taco to feel any heat. Don Bravo boasts that they replace their salsas each shift with freshly-made salsas.This restaurant is named for the Bravo clan, a family who have been operating restaurants south of the border since 1980. During my visit, a frenetic group of tourists had manic, out-of-control children spilling food everywhere, literally dumping it on the floor while laughing, requiring extensive clean-up on two occasions. The restaurant could not have been more gracious as they dealt with these horrible people without a hint of aggravation. Im a father of a 3-year-old, and if my daughter ever behaved like these kids were allowed to in public, Id be appalled and embarrassed, and Id expect the restaurant to kick me out, not clean my mess up with a smile and an aw shucks, kids will be kids attitude.When I think Baja fish tacos, I think of how lucky we are to have so many great options in San Diego, as it is one of the few style of tacos that San Diego does better than Los Angeles. My Auntie use to go to this place back in the day and was really excited to take me and my mom for some tacos. We all ordered different things and for the most part left feeling disappointed and not feeling the best. Ill admit I was starving so ate regardless of my issues with the food. There was very little filling in my Aunties quesidilla and it was missing the guacamole it was meant to come with. I got a crab burrito which they almost didnt give me and it didnt have the white sauce until the last two bites and no noticeable cheese. So I had pico and fried crab very dry and towards the end very oily. With my Aunties food she had to go back multiple times and she was met with attitude 😒. Dude if your food is dry and looks old just dont serve it. We didnt make a scene we didnt shame anyone we just wanted good food...I wont be going back.

The slowest service in San Diego!We waited for 15 minutes in line and then 45 minutes more to get our orders. This is ridiculous. 45 mins to make a veggie burrito?! We were about to leave without our food but then decided to see how long it would take to receive it. The food wasnt worth it. Never coming back. Do not recommend it to anyone. There are many better places around - Oscar’s, for example.

Quick stop for two tacos. For the $2 taco Tuesday price every day you can’t really beat this! I wasn’t sure I wanted anything. Luckily my fiancé decided to run in and grab two tacos. We had a horrible dining experience at this place. The food is so poorly made and lacks so much flavor. The customer service was horrible. The cashier had a bad attitude. We tried the fish tacos, which were mostly batter. The Don Bravos shrimp salad was lettuce drowned in water. The beans were definitely canned beans. Fast friendly service on a holiday Friday Eve around 7pm. Prices are good, plates are huge. 2 fish tacos covered the whole plate. Kids got Cali burros they were as big as their head. This is one of my favorite hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants in San Diego. There are a decent amount of tables inside and the small patio out back with a view of the ocean. To be honest, I cant speak to a lot of their menu items because I love their grilled mahi fish tacos so much I get them every time. I also love their salsa choices; I love really hot sauces and they have two that not only bring the heat but have great flavor as well. The credit card surcharge is a bit higher than some so consider bringing cash if that bothers you. Their prices are a bit higher than similar places, but this is hardly surprising given the multimillion dollar neighborhood they are in.

I went here with my wife and daughter. We ordered combo plates that were delicious and very filling. I actually regretted not just ordering a couple tacos because it was difficult to finish my meal; a good problem to have. I would definitely go here again. Oh yeah, one side of the outdoor seating had a beautiful water view that made the experience even more enjoyable.

The food was fine. The street fish taco had a tiny piece of fish, not worth it. It was 2 stars because it took 25 minutes to get my food and it wasn’t super busy. There was a 10 dollar minimum card purchase which they enforced on me, but not my friend who also spent less than 10. You can’t get condiments until your order. Food was okay, just not worth the rest of the experience.

The lovely man who remade my margarita is a gem and the ONLY reason I would think to go back.Otherwise it was the worst food and experience I received since moving to San Diego. The saving grace of this place was the guy mixing the margaritas. We ordered the “classic” margarita and it was way too sweet - but the friendly man behind the counter remade them and they were great (we gave him an extra tip)After having our margaritas fixed we were optimistic for the food. Things slowly went sour as we waited for 45 minutes. The carne asada tasted like rubber dipped in salt and tacos/rolled tacos were comparable to those found in the freezer section of Costco.In summary - order the “skinny” margarita if you need to stop in for a drink, but skip the food and go literally anywhere else…even Costco…

I ordered a Don Bravo Shrimp quesadilla $13.99 for dine in, waited a long time for my food and when I received my food it was cold! The beans and rice were pretty tasteless with a smidge of grated cheese on top ( not melted) the biggest disappointment of all was my Shrimp quesadilla! Which consisted of 12 small shrimp spread out on a very large flour tortilla with around a 1/ 2 cup of cheese sprinkled throughout the folded item.thats a very small amount! So small in fact I couldnt actually taste any cheese. I wont be back again! For me its a one and done!

They have good lunch specials which my friends had, but the shrimp taco I had was just okay. In the distant past I had excellent shrimp burritos here but I was quite disappointed on this visit.Don Bravo does have their own parking lot, a blessing in this congested area, with an exquisite view of the ocean from the lot. If you dont have high expectations for the food, you wont be disappointed.

The lobster burrito had lots of flavor and was filled. The nachos were also great. Don’t forget to grab a horchata and some churros on your way out to seal the deal!

Don Bravo is one of our favorite restaurants, if not our favorite, when eating tacos and other Mexican food. Their food is delicious, a decent price and homemade. They have outside dining, which is great when the inside dining room is shut down due to Covid-19. This place isnt fancy, but I care more for food quality than ambience.

Carnitas is bomb, probably best in SD. Customer service is just so bad. Can’t get plain Avo instead of guac unless you pay $3 more, wrong hours posted don’t answer the phone 20 mins before closing, among other things. Been coming here for 3 years weekly and can’t stand it any longer. Be better at treating your guests.

In my opinion this has the best beer battered fish tacos in town. Eat it while they are still hot. It can get very crowded and warm but worth it. Service is great, super nice! Came on the recommendation of the huff posts guide to the best fish tacos in San Diego.Ordered the 99c fish tacos and was not disappointed. The perfect taco. Deep fried fish on doubled-up corn tortillas, good ratio of cabbage / tomato / cilantro / white cheese / fillings to fish. But that fish though - amazing crunch on the batter. This place is GOOD! We came here on a late Thurs afternoon and the seating outside was occupied and there were a few people ordering inside. Lots of options so you can easily get overwhelmed. We ordered the shrimp plate with diablo, street tacos with carne asada and beer battered fish, beef taco and the surf and turf taco. Unfortunately no pictures since our phones were dead.The street tacos were simply delicious!! The carne asada was the best but the fish was also good. Among the regular sized tacos, I thought the shredded beef was a little chewy so not very fond of it. The surf and turf was very good. The shrimp plate was hot. When we said we liked spicy, we had expected a more complex spicy flavor, not a straight up chilli pepper spice. The shrimp was good by itself but the sauce had to be diluted with the rice and beans. We will avoid that next time as it didnt do any favors in the bathroom either.Get the tacos. You wont go wrong! Service could be a little nicer/happier.

Took over half an hour to get a couple of tacos and the place was maybe half full. We saw our food sitting on the counter for about 5 minutes because they kept calling the wrong order number. When we finally got the tacos, they were some of the worst tacos Ive ever had. No seasoning at all and the meat was so overcooked that I could barely chew it. I had to drown them in bottled hot sauce, since their homemade hot sauce also had no flavor. Super disappointed

My travels were not in vain.The salsa selection prompted me to try each of their offerings, and I was pleasantly surprised at their flavors and heat. The chopped cabbage and perfectly breaded fish were nestled in a warm corn tortilla. It was to perfection. If Magellan had only discovered fish tacos, he may have ended his travels prematurely.The price was fair, the service friendly, and the atmosphere humble. I have been eating at Don Bravo since the 90s - back when it was Bahia Don Bravo. The place is a Bird Rock icon and hasnt changed its look in...forever. Always good food - and yeah the overworked staff can be less-than-friendly at times - but you are not going there to make friends with the staff - you are going to eat some awesome westernized Mexican food in an iconic establishment. Dont be in a hurry when you are there - get a Pacifico and relax.

I came to Don Bravo to get some lunch and do work while I was there, as the restaurant advertised free customer wifi. After ordering I had trouble connecting to the wifi as the sign posted displayed a network that didn’t exist, so when I kindly asked a employee for help connecting, they condescendingly told me “I can’t help you, just follow the instructions on the sign, it’s right there,” and offered no help. Then, giving up on the wifi I sat down to eat my meal, when a different employee approached my table and accused me of breaking the window screen next to the table, when I had just sat down and done no such thing. I actually initially thought the second employee was coming over to help with the wifi but instead I was rudely accused of damaging property. I will definitely never be returning to this restaurant and will advise my friends to stay away as well.

Came in yesterday and today 07/17/20 with some coworkers to have some lunch. Both occasions was given red salsa for my order. When I asked for green I was given 1 by the cashier who did not want to provide his name. When asked for more salsa for my carne asada fries, he refused and said he couldnt give more because of the quantity of our food, we ordered a burrito 2 tacos and carne asada fries. Beware of fraudulent chargesWe had two family dinners on Oct 29 and Nov 12, 2021. In both cases, the very unfriendly cashier added $5 each time to the total. It took me 4 phone calls to get the refund, and at the end the manager blamed the credit card company. And I watched the lady put chips into a bag with no gloves...our burrito was dry but Im all about sanitation and I dont think having wild birds coming in and out is clean. Pretty good breakfast burrito for California. I wish green chile was a thing in this state but still a solid offering at a fair price. I made 2 meals out of it.

If you like Mexican food prepared from canned and frozen ingredients then this is your spot. The waitress straight up lied when I asked if they make their own horchata so I ordered it and then found out it came from a soda machine and was factory made.

Meh... I totally dont get this place. Fish tacos were doughy and flavorless. ceviche was also not good and the wait times were ridiculous. Ill give it points for being cheap and and their $1.50 fish tacos are better than many Ive had at twice the price, but if its not good, its not good.

I had both this and the taco stand and think this was better. The salsas were a push. The food here was a bit more traditional mexican and the asada tacos were excellent. You cant go wrong with either one.

I came from AZ just to have store bought shrimp in ceviche. I would have thought being in CA they would have used fresh shrimp. No flavor just the taste of clamato juice! And green olives in ceviche??? No thanks. I can get better ceviche in AZ! Without the green olives!

Fish tacos are good. It gets crowded and sometimes parking is hard to find. Has a little nice view to the sunset and you can barely see the beach.
