I had driven by this place a million times and always wondered what it was. There was clothing in the window, but also sold coffee? Turns out this shop actually belongs to an international brand. This location sells their clothing, and has great coffee. Plus, theres an outdoor section thats super cute. We had iced matcha green tea lattes that were delicious, and sat inside at one of their worktables with our laptops. Well definitely go again!

Staff is great. Super laid back atmosphere with some cool gear and bikes on display. Two guys really helped me out with purchases and gave me tips for the area: Jason (I think the Emporium Director?) and Derek who was helping ring me up. I didn’t feel rushed and they couldn’t have been more friendly. Found some cool hats and shirts that have unique details on em. Definitely my style. Also grabbed some cold brew. Good stuff.

I was very disappointed today with the service at the coffee place. A young girl was attempting to make me an avocado toast. She only put a glove on one hand and squeezed the avocado into a cup with her bare hand. She took her time and while she was squeezing the avocado, helped another customer at the register and started chatting with her. Meanwhile another server stood right next to her and did nothing. Then she took her phone and placed it right next to where she made my toast and kept checking her phone while spreading the avocado mixture slowly onto the spread. I got really impatient, asked politely to just give me the unfinished toast and took off. Very very bad customer service :(

This is on my top 5 favourite places to go to in Los Angeles. Not only they serve amazing coffee and food, but also the place is super welcoming to bring a book and read, do some work or just relax. Perfect for people that need to get work done and need to concentrate. Ive stayed at this place for hours with my laptop and it helps me concentrate more than at home. If you are on a coffee tour through LA this place should definitely be on your list.

I like how the cafe is hidden in the back like a secret hideaway. The coffee is good - had Tumeric Superfood. Like the chill vibe, and music. The clothes are pretty good that exudes quality but nothing impressive. As far as comparing to stores in Australia this Venice store is small and likely doesnt have half the items other stores do. After all Deus Machina is Australian brand.

This place has an amazing aesthetic, is environmentally friendly (corn based straws or something?!) and is super dog friendly. Its a totally hipster place and the prices do reflect that, but the coffee and food is quality. Its a bit confusing because when you google this it pulls up the clothing store and its difficult to find stuff about the coffee shop, but it exists and is open way before the clothing store.I had a cold brew which has a nice fruit forward flavor. They dont have simple syrup which is odd BUT the barista made me a fresh batch upon asking so Ill take that level of service. I also had a bacon egg and cheese which was really good. Prices are high and those two items cost me $14 which seems very high because it is. But again because of the service, quality of food, location and aesthetic this place gets a 4 for sure!

Saturday by 10pm, all tables are taken.Parking is free but its a small lot with a one way path. I recommend street parking, which is free and abundant.Employees seem nice and will generally greet you.Display motorcycles are cool but you cannot touch.They sell fashion accessories and apparel.For cafe, I recommend the cold brew. Deux Ex Machina Cafe takes up a corner of the clothing store and opens up like a garage to a simple but lovely patio, sunny with big plants. I would have loved to stay in for a while, but the flat white I got was pretty subpar. The top was tasteless big bubble foams and the rest was burnt. So instead I had two big cups of water and left.

I only give it 2 stars because of the young barista who was, although not all enthusiastic, but willing to answer a couple of questions. After reading about it and discovering that it has a few international branches I finally had the opportunity to visit it all the way from Wisconsin. The initial interaction with another of the employees was not very heartwarming after I joyfully displayed my excitement and mentioned that had just arrived an hour earlier from Wisconsin. I was in the cafe business for 7 years and an unfriendly, unwelcoming employee has no place in this business. Despite Mainly overpriced memorabilia with not so many great designs I purchased a $42 teashirt, the only one I cared for, for a friend of mine, because they dont have a range of sizes. Aside all that, Im happy I got to see the place and a few cool bikes they had on display. Great concept. Not so great implementation. Wish them well.

Deus Ex Machina is legendary but is all reputation and very little substance. A simple tee shirt is upwards of 60 dollars and most of the clothing was fashion advertisement and not functional from for the intended sport. I came as a Motorcycle enthusiast but found little that i want to spend money on that I cant get back home at my local shop. I really wanted to like this place, but what I found is a hipster coffee bar with one Motorcycle parked outside and a bunch of dudes on laptops. Ill try it again the next time Im in Venice because I want to see what everyone is talking about but as of now. count me as disappointed.if you are in the corner go check it out, but dont make a special trip to see something special, because theres nothing here to see. No bikes, no bikers. SadFace!!!

The ambience is interesting. You’re not quite sure if you’re in a coffee shop or a retail store, and perhaps that’s why it works. The coffee is smooth, a contrast to the rough parking experience. Ive always dug this place. Ive been coming since their first week open and you really cant beat the vibe... That is until the past year or so. I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could, and the sad thing is its nothing to do with the shop or the cafe. Its to do with the type of entitled customers that have taken the space over and are using it as their own personal office space. You cant just sit and enjoy a cup of coffee without someone (or multiple someones) yelling into their phones from the parking lot or tables. Every seat is occupied by an empty cup and a laptop. And good luck not tripping over a dog. I can wholeheartedly endorse the food, coffee and wares here, but the people that fill the space are killing the vibe.

It could be better the food is mediocre and they for some reason do not have ice tea already made so you get a glass of tepid tea that you have to come back to the counter to have them add ice to. Ive been checking out the Deus website for a few years and came across their cafe by chance while on vacation. You can imagine my excitement.When I came across the cafe/store I made my wife go. The store had all the cool gear, only a few of the actual motorcycles but they were worth stopping for. I love their customs and Id love to have mine customized by the fellas one day.I just grabbed a t shirt and drooled a little bit before I went out back and saw the racing motorcycles there for a show. This is one of the better cafes now in Venice, especially for those digital nomads out there. A few things to note.Wifi is decent but can be fidgety at times.There’s only one charger for approximately 25 people at capacity so come fully charged.Flat white is their best espresso offering. Go oat milk.A few of the male staff (short dark haired cashier, long haired barista) have a horrifically bad attitude, are unwelcoming and are overall rude.It’s to be expected at any traditional hipster cafe. But really, these two aren’t fit to even be Walmart greeters.I’d fire a few of the guys yesterday and a promote a few of the better ones as well.The music is classy. The tables are fine woodcut. A very cool australian based surf and moto shop that is curated to a t. the cafe is affordable which is surprising considering nothing else in the store is (on my budget). its a funny crowd comprised mostly of biker free spirits, late middle age crisis men that rode in a bmw touring bike they likely rode a block, and bro-coders that look slightly uncomfortable being here but know its a hip place to be. free wifi and great tunes make this an awesome place to get caught up on email on a rainy sunday. or sunny sunday. this place is cool. ill be back when im in the area.

Finally I was in town, I was ready to drop some serious money and as I walked in all I could notice was how much the employees didn’t not give a single F… I started browsing and couldn’t help myself but feel awkward, these employees only looked at me with a condescending look in their eyes, as quickly as my girl got her coffee I was ready to leave. There must have been 20 people on Facebook at their cafe and that as much as for a bike-lifestyle brand this place is.This place is basically a Starbucks where all the riders that don’t drive BMW’s go drink coffee and act cool, except none of them actually ride.Just read the reviews, people go here to drink coffee and eat croissants... So much for motorcyclist culture.

I went to the shop to buy two nice t-shirts (Triumph bobber, one in black and one in white). The employee offered me to take the t-shirts near the cashier machine while I looked for other stuff. When I came to him to pay the bill, he put the shirts in a plastic bag. What a bad surprise when I arrived home (in France, 6000 miles from L.A.) and opened by luggage to discover that the white t-shirt had been replaced by another one not attractive at all! I wanted to contact the shop but havent found an email address on their website apart from the central Deus address. The person to whom the gift was destined is very disappointed.Update. I found their email on the receipt. They gave me an answer in no time and will send a new tee to me in France. Good job guys.

So let me start by saying that I was driving by and at the red light out front, noticed the Deus sign on the side of their building. I follow motorcycle blogs such a bullitt.blogspot and Im well aware of the hipster culture cafe racer motorcycle/surf shops such as Deus, Iron and Resin, and Dime City Cycles and I self identify with that culture.When I went in there was plenty of parking in the back and a great atmosphere. There was plenty of places to sit and relax inside and out. To my surprise, there was a small cafe attached to the shop. The served espresso drinks and light lunch items such as sandwiches and pastries and also cold pressed juices. The barista was formerly from Starbucks and from our brief conversation about espresso and the latte I had, I could tell that she knew a lot more than your average coffee jockey. A+Going further into the store, things started going downhill. While they have a bunch of impressive motorcycles for sale such as what looked to be a Ducati Paul Smart 1000 LE, their clothing selection (which Id imagine is why most people stop by) left much to be desired. Let me begin by saying that most of their t-shirts are about $42. I dont mind paying that in many circumstances, but here is were Deus falls short: all of their shirts are heat transfers, not silk screen. If you dont know, the difference it is essentially this: heat transfers put a coat of plastic on top of the fabric in the shape of the design (plastic is not breathable), while a silk screen changes the color of the fabric to leave it as breathable as a plain white t-shirt. Its more expensive to produce but infinitely more comfortable in terms of fabric stretch and breathability. Even though the fabric was soft and seemed comfortable, if Im paying almost $50 for a single t-shirt it had better be the best money can buy and these simply were not. Furthermore, most of their designs were simply giant advertisements for Deus with no character or appeal other than showing off their hexagonal brand logo. If you want a graphic shirt with a cool design it was likely only offered in child sizes or XS. I was unable to find anything I liked that was in my size (medium). Side note, plenty of jackets and sweats ($110+) for those not staying in SoCal much longer.On the same note of buying a t-shirt, I like buying cool little things from places like this: stickers, keyrings, patches, bottle openers, temp tattoos, etc. They had about half a dozen different designs of keyrings, none too attractive, mostly just the uninspired Deus hexagon shield logo in different sizes and colors, not much else to speak of in the sub $20 department.Lastly, Im not generally in the business of making alternative suggestions, so Ill be brief, but Iron and Resin in Ventura succeeds everywhere this place falls short. I had a much better experience when I went there. I spent a lot more money, but only because I wanted to. Its a very similar store, but very different in the little details that matter. Check them out if you can and write a review for both.

I have spent time in the cafe area, both inside and outside. Expect a little entertainment industry posturing, or bring earplugs. Mostly, the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. Barista is top notch.

As a matcha person, only ordered their matcha latte. $4.5 is a fair price. however, the matcha taste is not strong enough, and maybe next time I will ask for half sweet latte. 3 stars for the matcha, extra 1 star is for the environment. Here has a beautiful patio to hang out.

Hipster Haven, These guys used to build bikes but all that was here were a bunch of people on laptops drinking coffee and not one motorcycle outside, they all pulled up in cars! I guess you can purchase your premade hipster clothing, grab a fancy java and work on your wannabe career as a writer in Hollywood where everyone can see you.
