Not worth the price! For two tortas and two large drinks, my bill was 50$!! Each torta is about 20 bucks with some side of fries. BUT NOTE, the fries are in a small cup. Like a shot glass cup! It is not even a handful of fries . The only thing worth the price here were the large drinks for 6 bucks. Everything else not worth it, save your money guys .

Cooks is amazing! They bake their own breads and pastries, ingredients are super fresh. I love the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant. Staff was super friendly. Big selection and lots to choose from. Everything was very flavorful, prepared well and was picturesque. It gets busy durring lunch rush but then line moves quickly. Lots of restaurant seating and a small patio as well.

Updating my review and dropping them from 5 stars to 1 because on monday my husband stop by and ordered a torta and specifically asked to put the spicy sauce on the side well apparently they didnt care and still added the spicy sauce inside the torta! Very unpleasant and wasnt able to eat it. They even gave us the spicy sauce on the side to fool us, Just awfulOmg best tortas in town!! Let me start by saying very clean,sanitized and super fresh inside to eat,now the food omg so fresh and delicious i ordered the molcajete torta it has a spicy sauce but not too spicy and the cochinita torta was my favorite everything was made right. I accompanied with a agua fresca of cucumber lime. Now it was a bit pricy but worth the meal its about 13 dollars and up each torta plus it comes with a very tiny side,and drinks are separate so for one meal it was about 20 dollars, my total for 3 tortas and 2 drinks was 60 dollars.

Great time at Cooks Tortas!The bake all their bread there that day and it shows. Super soft warm bread. Each sandwich was yummy.My favorite was the ropa vieja. I also tried the white fish and the chicken mole verde. All are good.They have tons of options for sandwichesSome very good sides as well with different fruits mixtures.The baked good are litttt. Those are made fresh daily obviously.Service is very kindOutdoor seating available too!

Nice little hole in the wall with a great selection of tortas. Their meat options all seemed delicous; i got the veggie torta. Personally was not a huge fan of the zucchini or roasted red bell peppers. The bread, sauces, sweet potato fries were all great. Very interesting selection of sides; i had the orange/pineapple/coconut salad which was quite refreshing.

Inconsistent. First time I came here was around 3 months ago. I had heard that their Cochinita Pibil torta was good. This day the owner was there and I was able to try it before purchasing. It was amazing so much so that my aunt actually bought one to go besides the one she had eaten there. Now 3 months later I go back and what a disappointment it didnt taste the same. Honestly was not worth the $14.75 it costs. It had more beans than meat and tasted like it was carne adobada not Pibil. The Sweet Potato fries though are bomb. They are cripsy and taste so good. I truly recommend these. Maybe next time Ill try another torta and see how it is then.

Positive: Food is tasty. The bread is good. Its cibatta bread. ( not the traditional bolillo). The beef is tender. I like that they grilled the queso fresco a bit.Negative: Sweet potato fries were ok. They were kind of staled and the portion was small.Price: $19 + 18% tip I like to leave for employees.Price is too high for a torta and a small side of sweet potato fries. Id would have been happier paying $ 13.

Not your average torta, just look at their extensive menu on the wall. Customer service is great. They bake their own bread and Aguas frescas. If you are going during lunch hour call ahead because it gets very busy. Ill leave you with some of their sweet delights.

Good tortas. Not your traditional tortas that youre probably used to. But they are good. But the varied selection will persuade you to try it. I get the molcajete torta, forgot what item number it is, one of my favorites. They use like a chibatta type of bread. But the meat is good and freshly made. They also have daily made aquas frescas. They do have some pastries as well. You will get a side with your torta. Just as a heads up, it can be a bit pricey, more that probably any other tortas place you go to. But now a days, everything seems to be pricey. I pay around $15- $20 w/ drink. Give it a try though, bet you wont go just once.

The best spot in town. tried this place after living in town for 6 years. Looks like we found a new place. We order (Cuban, Califas and turkey) A torta is more than just a Mexican version of a beefed-up sandwich. it is an entirely different species. A good torta is usually available anywhere that a good taco.

Visited CA for the first time recently, and WOW! Food is amazing there. This place I will never forget though!!! THE BEST TORTAS! I had the Molcajete sandwich, it had a molcajete sauce which is basically roasted onions and peppers, and omg it was so good. Spicy and amazing!!! The only thing I didnt like too much is that the steak was extremely fatty and chewy. But it was still a great sandwich! They have fresh juices everyday, the first time we went there was a chia lemonade and I swear its the best lemonade I have ever had! 2 days later, we were on the way there and wanted to make sure they had it because we were going just for that, so we called ahead and they only had 5 cups left and went out their way to save us a large portion so we could have it! AMAZING SERVICE. I was truly so happy by that. The owners were there each time we went and they were so nice to us and let us try the fresh juices to see if we liked them. One day they had a melon juice and it was so refreshing! They have the best sweet potato fries as a side. My favorite was the cucumber dill side they had, it is the best cucumber side I have ever had in my life. Tasted like a tzatziki sauce almost. You can tell that they really love and care about what they are doing there. Thank you guys again for being so awesome!!!Forgot to mention their dulce de leche cheese empanada is heavenly!!

Looking for some really good gourmet tortas? Make sure to check this joint out and if you can’t decide which torta to get, then hopefully this helps out. I tried the shrimp po’ boy torta and it was our favorite one. The sauce and the condiments really compliments the torta. The second one we both enjoyed was the milanesa torta. The milanesa is nice and tender and cooked really good. Make sure to try the torta cubana which is really filling and the carne asada one. Their macaroni salad and potato salad that comes with the sides are also delicious.

Great selection of sandwiches. Their selection with steak chicken and shrimp are amazing. Havent tried a sandwich there I havent liked. The price and portions are great. Friendly staff and the food comes out fast even tho it always seems busy. The parking can be a challenge during lunch times but its well worth the wait. The bakery items and juice selections are also a nice plus.

This place always hits the spot. Bomb tortas but a little pricey. Got the Diabla and damn it was hot. Not spicy but hot hot. Still fire tho. Ate it up. My friend got one with pork. The tortas and food is great, expensive, overpriced probably, but it’s good. The agua frescas are excellent, but those are definitely overpriced, so I opted for just a water since I was dining in, but pretty disappointed with the fact that they serve the water in small styrofoam cups (the ones they serve the small food sides in) had to ask for two… I photographed them with my key for size reference. There’s a charge for a regular sized cup of water. If you ask me, it seems a little inhospitable if you’re dining in.

Who knew there was such an extensive torta restaurant in Monterey Park?I got the 2 tortas: chicken and fish. The portions are huge in terms of filling. For my fish sandwich, I legit got the whole tilapia in my sandwich, at least 4 filets stuffed in there. Not complaining but a bit too much for me. And got 3-4 pieces of grilled chicken in the chicken sandwich. Had trouble finishing.All sandwiches Also comes with a small portion of sides located in the counter. I’m not too big of a fan of the bread as i think it’s too thick and hard. When I think of Torta, it’s the soft buttery roll which I prefer. So I think I’ll stick with food truck tortas for now. Will def rec to others if they’re in the mood for tortas

Definitely not traditional tortas by any means. They use a thicker form of bread that makes it more like an American sandwich. We ordered the carne asada tortas. It came with a side in a tiny cup. Im not a huge fan of this type of bread as my tortas yet, especially since the meat was a bit dry. But I will give it another shot since they seem to have a good amount of positive reviews. Maybe Ill try one of their more popular flavors thats a bit more saucy next time. We also ordered grandmas corn cake and was pretty good. Its really thick and decadent, but still pays a good homage to traditional corn cake.

I use to really like this place but the prices have significantly gone up. I paid $19 for a salad with no chicken. I understand that every business has been charging extra due to inflation but I feel that the price doesnt match the quality and quantity of food that you get. If you want to support small business there is Wendys tortas and the heights in Lincoln heights that serve really good sandwiches for less than 15 bucks. I really hope they would consider adjusting their prices.

This place is so good. I got the #666 sandwich and it was sooooo good. I honestly cant wait to go back and try another one. They have so many to choose from and all sounded delicious. Back to the sandwich I ordered. It was a bit spicy since it has habanero, but I can handle heat. It was okay spicy for me, but could be spicy for people with low tolerance. The chicken was juicy and had a great flavor. We were a party of 4 and everyone enjoyed what they ordered as well. I had the macaroni salad as my side and it was tasty. I would definitely give this place a try if youre in the neighborhood.

Keep coming back for years. Gourmet tortas. Four thumbs up.... Update: price per torta is $17.67 in plus tax plus anything else you get. So, $20 to about $30 per person, again, depending on what you get. Tortas are still great. If you get Arroz con leche as your side it was $0.26 extra but I did not see that in writing on the display case for the sides. The Credit Card machine still asks if you want to leave a tip, at least they are not pushy to ask for tips any more, so thats a plus. Their hours apparently changed cause the banner outside says they open till midnight on Fridays and I think also Saturdays. Other schedule changes. The owner needs to update the hours on Google Maps.

We’ve been visiting Cook’s for years.This visit was highly anticipated but sadly was somewhat disappointing.I had the portobello melt and my husband had the Ranchito which contains beef. Both of our sandwiches were fine. Not extraordinary or super delicious…just fine.The strawberry guava agua fresca was delicious. We asked for a glass of water, as my husband is diabetic and doesn’t drink soda or Aguas. He was provided a 4 ounce styrofoam cup with water that tasted oxidized. This small portion of water was insulting.The menu board has a lot of options to choose from but no prices! We were surprised by our final bill of almost $35 for two sandwiches and one medium drink and 4 ounces of rancid water.Don’t think we’ll be making the trip to Cook’s again. Ciao.

Ever since cooks tortas opened here over a decade ago, its been my favorite spot for your better than typical torta. Theyve updated the ingredients of what you would expect and brought to the table amazing, classic flavors in a new way. And I cant get enough. I stop in every chance I get. The aguas are also fresh and delicious. And if you like sweets dont hesitate to try the corn cake. Its amazing. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and attentive. Im so disappointed, we waited for this spot to open because on the Waze app, restaurant hours says they open at 10am but in fact they open at 11. I live 35 minutes away, we were the first customers right when they opened, and one of our tortas had a thick black hair! Absolutely disgusting. When bringing it to their attention, they remade it but the damage was done. We had lost our appetite and could not even touch the food. I cannot believe it, after speaking to who I believe is the owner, they refused to give our money back because they remade the sandwhich. But what made me the most upset was the fact that he said Do you think this is the only restaurant that you would find a hair in the food? Ok, great, keep the $50 dollars. You lost me as a customer. What a shame! Beware!!!!

Very expensive for a torta. $14 avg. and it only comes with a small side but no drink. I had the ahogada with carnitas and a jamaica and it was good but not excellent, for the price that they charge. My friend had the spicy torta and she really liked it. My main issue with this place is the price for what you get. They do have many selections but they dont put the price on the board, which is a pretty peve that I have. I wouldve put 3 stars or less if the food was bad, but it isnt. You try it and see if its worth the price of something you can get in so many other places in East L.A. for half the price and maybe even more meat inside.

The only drawback was that the shrimp seemed boiled rather than grilled or fried but otherwise tasty. My partner raved about her Carne Asada selection. The Aguas Frescas tasted of real fruit. I think everyone in my group got a different sandwich, and everyone loved what they got. Lots of tasty sides too; various fruits, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and sweet potato fries. They offer a lot of tasty beverages too; fountain drinks, but also bottles of Topo Chico and Mexican Coke, and also fresh brewed lemonades and fruit juices. But my favorite were the desserts: Cooks Tortas had BIG cookies the size of a saucer, fresh baked. They had chocolate chips and pecans, and every bite was nutty and scrumptious. Seriously some of the best cookies Ive had in a long time; people at the table were talking about attempting to make our own. I highly recommend this place; there is something for everyone, and its all good.

If you want real Tortas they have them in ELA, and Boyle Heights, NOT Monterey Park! Now pricing is what really needs to be addressed here... Its WAY over priced!! Someone payed $60 for 3 tortas and two drinks!!! Oh hell No!!!!! Especially for non traditional Hipster type stuff. Dont know how they get good reviews, must be workers or friends posting for them.

The food is good if you can actually get it. They offer curbside pickup and even have a sign outside but then when you get there they are rude on the phone saying that they aren’t going to walk the 10 steps to curbside like they promote. Then they say they don’t know the owner or managers name when you ask for it. Then when you do go in to pickup the food (that is ready and paid for online) they have you wait in a line and ignore you. Good luck if you go to Cook’s!

Wonderful Tortas! Been coming here for 3-4 years. They kinda lost their touch with their bread about a year and a half ago.But I decided to give them another try this year and they were back to where they at. Wonderful tortas in area or maybe even for LA county.If you’re a vegetarian, definitely try the Portabello Melt if you seek explosive flavors. I’ve tried other vegetarian options and Portabello Melt is by far my favorite!

The Tory as are really good. I like the variety too. I would suggest labeling the Molcajete one spicy on the wall because I had an issue with my tongue where I couldn’t eat anything spicy and what a surprise. And not a good one. I came here twice, with my visits spaced out a week apart.Basic impressions:1. The tortas are double the price of a regular torta. There are multiple other torta locations nearby for a lot cheaper. And a lot better tasting.2. The employees just dont seem happy to be here. At all. My girlfriend brought me here because its only a few minutes from her place of business. We are opposed to doing the keto diet and we came here for chicken salad. Something about that combination of meats and cheese makes me melt. I writhe in ecstasy, although I have never taken actual ecstasy so maybe this is not an accurate physical assessment. Prices have risen over the years which is understandable given it is gourmet. However, A 14 dollar torta / sandwich? Every once in a while I guess that is okay. It is tasty AF. Parking may be an issue around lunchtime and you can see a line go out the door. They have a private parking lot but its not enough for the number of people that go in. These are some very pricy tortas. It was just about $10 for a torta and a very small side. I got the red potato salad as a side, it was not especially appetizing. They seemed to charge for every extra. I also cant believe that a small cup of jalapeño is considered a side. If you wish to purchase it it will set you back another $2. My friend SZ loves the chicken salad here and that is how I started coming here. Their Chicken Salad is pretty good: romaine, greens, cucumber, grilled zucchini, chicken, toasted sesame vinaigrette. You can add avocado if you pay extra, and I say that it is worth it. And that dressing! Mmmm delicious. The salad also comes with three small pieces of toasted bread, and those are really good too. While I will always eat salad, I am usually never a fan of salad... but that is not the case here. I really like this salad!But do you know what is even better than the salad? Their shrimp poboy! It has battered shrimp, lettuce, avocado, and red onion remoulade. That fried shrimp is so delicious with the sauce! All their tortas come with a side, and we usually get this one with medium red fries. I am not sure why they call them red fries instead of sweet potato fries but it doesnt really matter because they are yummy.I usually get the chicken salad instead of the shrimp poboy because I feel like the salad is more diet-friendly than the torta... but I do think about that torta a lot. Cooks Tortas is located on Atlantic and is a little difficult to turn in to if you are driving south, but their parking lot connects to the ones next door which are easier to turn into. They have a decent amount of parking, although sometimes you have to wait for people to leave. I have yet to actually eat here, as I always get my order to-go. Even if you order by phone, you still have to wait in the line like everybody else, but thankfully it moves pretty fast. Best torta in town, I love the cubana and mole verde. Today I got me the cubana then added the fruit salad and a fresh guaba/mando water and my meal felt a worth 1500 Cal😂, its delicious.

Was visiting Southern California, and ate here per a local’s recommendation. The decor reminds me of a trendy hipster spot meets a mom and pop shop. There’s a large chalk board that lists all the various tortas and ingredients. I had the Molcajete torta (grilled steak, grilled cheese, hot salsa torreada, black bean spread) and a pineapple mint agua fresca and it was delicious! While a little more expensive than traditional tortas, the food was was full of flavor and well worth the price. Wish this place was closer so I could try all the other tortas!

I have tried just about every torta offered by Cooks and they were all great. My favorite is the El Chavo torta. Its you basic ham torta but very delicious. The agua frescas are also amazing and regularly rotated.

This place has THE BEST tortas in Los Angeles area! Its not even close, Cooks is the best, hands down! The BBQ Pulled Pork with red onion Cole slaw torta is some straight up preme! Cant go wrong with the carne asada, either. With a large variety of tortas, plus sides and agua frescas, this is the place to go for an excellent dining experience. Go hungry, leave happy!

I always get the carne asada tortas here with one of their fresh fruit drinks of the day. I choose red fries and their potato salad as my sides. I love the pineapple celery drink when they have that. Parking is usually available, but theres also street parking available. The place can be a bit hard to spot when driving by since it doesnt really stand out as a restaurant type of business. But once youve found it and tried their tortas, youll have this place in the back of your head every time you are in the area.

Torta (n.) A Mexican sandwich.A $9 torta is an oxymoron. No torta should ever be $9 even is includes a side.Are the tortas good? It depends. I had the Bombero and that was good. But, I also had the Cuban - a bad rendition of one. First, a Cuban, if you are going to call it a Cuban, has mustard and pickles - this one had pickled onions (I suppose their take on it). Overall, though this sandwich was bad - it had an off taste. As I tried deconstructing it to see what it was, I narrowed it to the chicken (it smelled and tasted like Windex - meaning it was spoiled). I know what youre thinking Cuban sandwich connoisseur... there is no chicken in a cuban!Spoiled food offensive enough yes. But, what I think made me equally upset is that they considered pickled jalapeño carrots a side. A side? Pickled jalapeño carrots are a condiment. They are a condiment in every taco street vendor cart and in brick and mortar eateries. They would never think of considering a side and consequently charging you $1.95 for a side of pickled jalapeño carrots.Lastly, I think whoever prepared my meals possibly may have been sick. After eating here, I ended up getting sick as did my dining partner and this was the only similar experience/variable we had.
