I cannot say enough great things about Companion Pet Care and Dr. Ted Burghardt. We first saw Dr Ted with our senior dog Boston and he is one of the kindest persons we have met, and the most knowledgeable and professional vet we have been to (and we’ve seen a few vets in the past, since previously we took our dogs to larger, less personal places, where you never knew which doc you would see). We never felt rushed in our appointments and always felt like our dog was loved! When Boston reached the end of his life at almost 14, Dr. Ted and his staff were so loving and thoughtful and made the experience for our dog and us as comfortable as possible.We now have a puppy named Koda and are happy to be under Dr Teds care again, where we have complete trust in him and his staff. Its a place that feels homey and warm, and i recommend it to all my friends. Im grateful to a dear friend who referred me to him.

We recently took our new little puppy for her first vet visit and were absolutely delighted with the experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, Sam at the front desk greeted us with such kindness and warmth, making us feel immediately welcome and at ease.Ted, the vet, was simply wonderful. He was not only professional and knowledgeable, but also incredibly gentle and patient with our puppy, ensuring that our little one felt safe and comfortable throughout the visit. Ted took the time to thoroughly explain everything, from the examination process to the recommended vaccinations and care tips, answering all my questions with patience and expertise. Getting a new puppy is overwhelming. After this visit alone, I will now be bringing all my pets here.Its clear that the team here truly cares about the animals and their well-being. The clinic itself was clean, well-organized, and equipped with the latest technology, which reassured us that our puppy was in the best hands.We left feeling confident and relieved, knowing that our new family member has a great vet in Ted. Love love love! I came to Companion Pet Care because my regular vet didn’t have room to see my dog, who was clearly in pain. Companion got me in asap and both Dr R and Dr B were wonderful! They have a no fear policy which relieves stress on my dogs and me. They’re my new Vet now and I love them!

Dr. Burghardt and Companion Pet Veterinary are the best! My dog and I are treated with respect, they take the time to listen to my questions or concerns and give me the answers to them. Also, he has never prescribed anything that was unnecessary to pad the bill. This veterinary clinic is definitely worth taking your pet to for quality care.

Best vet in the world! Staff is incredible - caring and compassionate. Dr. Burghardt is the kindest, and even personally calls you to check up on your loved ones. Niala took such good care of my little terrier mix the other day, I always trust my babies are in good hands with Niala. Glen is the most knowledgeable and kind-hearted, taking time to explain aftercare. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found CPC and am confident they are the very best at caring for my fur family!

Today was our first appointment with our two dogs, Pippi and Gracie. The people are friendly and kind, and the energy in the office is so calm and comforting that even our anxiety prone Gracie was calm. We had many things done and purchased some supplements, and the bill was surprisingly low. This is our new vet. Thank you, Companion Pet Care and Dr. Burghardt.

I left our first appointment at Companion Pet Care feeling so heard and taken care of.Backstory: We bring our pup, Lulu, to the vet once a year for a checkup, but every time we left our old vet, we never fully felt confident that we knew what was going on with Lu. We were told she was overweight, but left with no tools or explanation of why or how to manage it. (along with some other things we had concerns about. We rescued her from Mexico when she was about 4 months old).She was handled with such care at Companion, I really appreciate that they leave the door open while they’re taking blood/giving vaccines etc. and I could hear the staff being sweet and knew she wasn’t in distress.Dr. Burghardt answered all my questions and the next day called with her blood work and was SO through!! So many puzzle pieces about her health finally fell into place and we finally got answers!!She’s 4, and for the last 2 years has been lethargic, not interest in playing with other dogs, but swims and loves chasing the ball… and just has had this extra weight on her. Well thanks to Companion Pet Care, she’s been on thyroid meds for almost a week and we’re already seeing results :)Dr. Burghardt assessed, researched, talked to a specialist, stayed in touch, and helped us make a plan… and I can finally say that I left the vet knowing I was providing the very best care for my baby girl…

We are forever grateful for Dr. Ted Burghardt and his team at Companion Pet Care in Encinitas, CA. They have once again exceeded our expectations with the neuter surgery on our beloved rescue pup Kaipo! We have brought our own pets and referred family and friends to Dr. Burghardt for many years, long before his work at Companion Pet Care. He is a superb veterinarian, surgeon, has a fantastic bedside manner and has high morals.Companion Pet Care is close to the 5, right off the 101- there’s always parking in their lot and the clinic is warm and inviting. The staff is knowledgeable, kind, and professional. They have a clinic cat and dog who act as the welcoming committee and make the hospital feel like the mom-pop clinics of the past. The hospital has all the modern equipment and they text/email and call with care reminders.In 2019 Dr. Burghardt and the Companion Pet Care team took care of our 9 year old Maltipoo’s dental cleaning with extractions, our King Charles Cavalier Spaniel’s complicated dental, extractions, and oral surgery, and our Dobie mix rescue pup’s spay/microchip. We’ve had dogs all of our lives and never have they recovered so beautifully after complex procedures as they have after seeing Dr. Burghardt.We trust him and his team with our fur family members and feel blessed to have found him!

Our 17 year old cat Diego is a new patient to Companion Pet Care. Our customer recommended Dr. Ted Burghardt for our cats severe tooth infection. Hes a Vet that also does dental work. We were terrified for Diego to be under anesthesia due to his age and frailness. Dr. Burghardt and his staff made us feel extremely comfortable at the consult and we were able to book his oral surgery within 2 days! I was very emotional when I dropped him off not knowing if he would make it thru. The staff was very understanding and reassured me they would monitor him closely with have all hands on deck. Not only did the Dr call me several times with updates they also used a doppler to monitor his heart extra close!! Diego is happy, healthy and ready to live another 5 years! Thank you Dr. Burghardt and staff. We have a new Vet now!

There was a glitch in their computer/appointment system. I had an email confirmation for my cats appointment, but they did not have me in the system. They were able to fit me in. Dr. Ted took his time to take care of my cats well check and answer my questions. I gave a four star due to appointment glitch. The staff at companion pet care is caring and knowledgeable.

Dr. Ted and his Team have been phenomenal throughout a very scary week for our doggie and his parents. Our pet is usually very energetic and loves his walks. I knew something had to be wrong when he didnt want to go on a walk anymore, so we took him into Companion Pet Care to get him checked out. Weve been going to this vet since 2012 and have loved our experiences there, and have been very lucky that our dog has been so healthy. However, this week, Dr. Ted discovered that our dog had large masses growing on his spleen, which was deteriorating his red blood cell count as well as making the rest of his organs uncomfortable due to the size of the masses. Dr. Ted arranged an imaging appointment the following day and recommended surgery the day after. Dr. Ted prioritized our dogs health and had the perfect balance of compassion, understanding and transparency throughout the whole process. The surgery was successful and our love bug is home recovering very well. They have been calling regularly since the surgery (two days ago) to check-in on us and our dog. I cannot fully put into words how grateful I am for this stellar team, the great work they do not only for our furry family members, but their humans as well. I will never forget the quality of care they gave us in such a dire time of need and will always be so grateful for them.

We moved to Leucadia a year ago from Ventura County, and just brought home a 5 month old Labrador Retriever. We decided to bring Riley to Companion Pet Care based on reviews, their location, and the fact that they take our pet insurance, Trupanion.So far, were delighted. They were able to schedule a non-emergency appointment the next day, to our surprise. The office staff and assistants were very friendly and welcoming, and our experience with Dr. Amanda Rodriguez DVM couldnt be better. We’ve had a long relationship with Companion Pet Care, to save you the long tragic story, my dog Chocolate has been coming to them since she was a young dog and I acquired her later in life. These people have been such an amazing support with everything we have gone through, getting her in quickly when needed… every times and that’s been often. We drive 30+ min to go to them and it’s worth it. They have treated my girl like their own, crying with me and cheering her on. New to the area and have been very happy with the care that has been given to our two dogs. First visit was for a chronic ear infection and I am happy to say that our pup is doing great. Second visit could have resulted in a VERY expensive vet bill but Dr Burghardt was able to keep our costs down while still ensuring that our dogs were safe. (Dogs and baby diapers are not a good combination!). The staff is always friendly when we come in and are very sweet with our boys. Thank you for the great care!

I got my first puppy at 8 weeks old back in September 2020. I took him to an initial checkup and from the beginning, everyone at companion was so sweet. Everyone who knows me knows I ask a ton of questions - the doctor is very patient in answering all of them and explaining things very thoroughly!They provide amazing service and I always know mypup is loved and taken care of every time he needs to go to the vet. From all the amazing follow up calls, to the little go home package they sent us with after his neutering - it’s really in the details and this place checks all the boxes. They care about your animals as if they were their own and what more could you ask for in a vets office. I can’t speak on pricing since I don’t know what average costs are, but I’m never shocked by my bill or surprised by the cost. I feel as though the pricing is very fair - but knowing mypup is in the best hands is PRICELESS. 🤍

We have been seeing Dr. Ted Burghardt at Companion Pet Care since before he even bought the practice over three years ago. We have had surgeries with him and normal check ups. He has always been very thorough, and never rushes us through our appointment. Dr. Ted doesnt recommend unnecessary procedures and his prices are comparable (or less) for the area. Dr. Ted has a calming and very kind demeanor and most importantly, our two male pugs adore him and his staff. One of our dogs can be quite skittish, but is calm and happy during his veterinarian visits. I trust Dr. Ted with my precious fur babies and would recommend to anyone looking for a new dogtor for their pet.

Have always had a good experience with this office. The staff is really friendly. The vet is knowledgeable. What I really appreciate is they dont try to guilt you into over paying for unnecessary services. Ive been to other vets that order all kinds of tests, and imaging and want you to spend thousands on a visit and then make you feel like an awful person if you cant afford it. This vet does a hands on exam. Asks questions. Prescribes meds when needed or makes sounds suggestions. Then checks back to see how things are. He escalates care if more treatment is needed. It seems like a sound approach. Both times my pets were better with his first suggestions and medications and we didnt need to do the other testing or treatments. I think its better for the animals to have less treatment, less needles stick, less radiation etc if those procedures arent really needed.

Dr. Ted Burghardt and his staff are simply wonderful. I brought my Australian Shepard in because he was limping and would not let me check his paw. I was very concerned there was something in it. A very pleasant staff member met us in the parking lot and took down our information and took my dog in for an exam with the doctor. He was able to check the paw and determine that there was nothing in it. The doctor actually came out to my car and let me know what he had found and also provided a small packet of information on arthritis and a list of common supplements that I may want to try for my dog. He took the time to go through the packet with me and answer any questions or concerns that I had. Even though the place was very busy, Dr. Burghardt never made me feel rushed. He gave me his undivided attention until all my questions were answered. I highly recommend Companion Pet Care to anyone searching for a great veterinarian.

Companion Pet Care always puts in that extra effort that makes such a big difference. A visit to the vet usually means I am desperate. Im scared. Im on edge. My dog is uncomfortable. Yet, Im met with a smile at the front desk, their calm voices help both my dog and myself. We are always taken into a room right away. It gives us a place to gather ourselves before the visit. The visit is not rushed, Im able to absorb the info and apply what I learn once we get home. (Or like my last visit, the copy of some helpful instructions came to my email before I even realized I had left without it.) They think of everything. Wellness visits are my favorite of course, but any visit at Companion is handled with a high standard. I walk away knowing we had the best care.

I am honestly shocked by all of these positive reviews. Every interaction with this vet has left me in tears and completely distraught by how expensive their tests and recommended treatments are. In order to save some money we started ordering our dogs medication through Chewy.com (same prescription, same brand, but about half the price) and the vet refuses to approve the medication, insisting that instead of paying $50 through Chewy, we pay THEM $150 for the same prescription. I cant believe they get away with this. Save your money and find a vet with a conscience to care for your sweet furry family members.

I take all of my dogs there and have for years. They are consistently reasonably priced and spend as much time as you need explaining any medical issues and treatments that your pet needs.I have never waited more than a minute for my appointment, even with the new Covid procedure.I have been fostering dogs for over 20 years and have been to many many vet clinics. I send all of my local new adopters to Companion Pet Care.

Our pets have been cared for by Dr. Burghardt and his team at Companion Pet Care on numerous occasions. From scheduling via phone to each contact throughout and after the visit- the team is exceptionally friendly, professional and compassionate. Dr. Burghardt is a genuinely great person, honest veterinarian and performs the best pet care possible. The COVID pandemic made for some challenging obstacles for veterinary hospitals but Dr. Burghardt and his team have established safe protocols for their team and us. Sadly we had to seek his care for an end of life decision for our beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel during the start of the pandemic. Luckily Companion Pet Care was still working hard and performed the euthanasia after we said our goodbyes and dropped him off. We were confident that our old timer dog would pass peacefully surrounded by love. It was heartbreaking but we trust Companion Pet Care because they treat animals as if they were their own.More recently we took our senior maltipoo in for her annual dental and teeth extractions- she recovered so well we could hardly tell she had anesthesia! Her breath is so much better and without tooth pain she is acting like a puppy! This is the only clinic she isnt afraid of walking into - she loves all of their kind attention.We are forever grateful to Dr. Burghardt and the Companion Pet Care team!

I took my fur-baby Nickolas in so they could take a look at his teeth. He was having discomfort in the nose and mouth area. They took excellent care of him. Even brushed him while he was under anesthesia. They cuddled and loved on him. Dr. Ted and his team are wonderful. I drive from Vista to Encinitas because their care and service are superior. It should be noted that I drive with a cat yowling in the front seat the whole way so you know its worth the extra effort to get there.

To begin with, Dr. Ted Burghart is the best most caring veterinarian we have ever known. We had three geriatric cats who had a lot of health issues. One of our cats recently passed away and Dr. Ted was there for us all the way. Now we are preparing to travel with one of our cats to Hawaii. He has walked us through the process and made sure that everything goes smoothly. His staff couldn’t be nicer. They always are helpful and compassionate when you call. My wife and I were looking to have our corgis teeth cleaned and we were referred to Dr. Burghardt by a friend. Dr. Ted Burghardt, the front office staff (we met several over a 2 day period) and the Vet tech, Glenn are simply wonderful. We have an older fearful dog and have been to MANY vets over the years. The office worked us in over lunch after we described our problem pup and his pain problem. Dr. B was thorough and gentle and with Glenn was able to handle and administer meds where other vets have failed and/or refused to deal with our dog. Glenn called to check in the evening after the appointment. After a follow up appt (again, worked in last minute) our old pup is doing much better. We have been bringing Patrick our dog here for the last 6 years and have always got excellent care from Dr Soifer and now Dr. Burghardt and his team. Patrick went in for an FHO surgery just before Christmas 2017 and Dr. Burghardt and team took amazing care of Patrick during the procedure as well as during the follow up physical therapy and laser therapy. It’s been less than two months and, thanks to the work we all put in, Patrick is now walking better than ever and is able to go on long walks going distances that that we have not tried in over a year. Their employee customer service needs some change. My family booked an appointment here for our little Yorkie. About a week before our scheduled appointment he consumed a bar of dark chocolate as big as him! In my past experience, vet offices are not open without a vet being there... and typically if there is an emergency or if someone is out to lunch the vet or vet tech will at least check to see if your dog/animal is ok. However, when we arrived at the office with our emergency the front desk girls said everyone was all out to lunch and no one could see him and turned us away. When I called to cancel my appointment a woman answered the phone and when I explained that I was cancelling my appointment due to concern about being turned away in this situation all she had to say was “I’m sorry you feel that way” very flatly and then hung up the phone. First of all that’s rude, and not good business for having people refer others to your clinic.After all of this Dr. Burghardt gave me a call to follow up. He is very kind and was very apologetic about the situation.
