The biggest Chinatown in US. I used to live in NYC for many years, the Chinatown here is much bigger than NYC and its very clean and no bad smell here compared to NYC. There are so many stores and restaurants you could find them here. Some bakeries are very old, the lines was long just to get some egg tarts but they tasted really good! You will see many old buildings here. I highly recommended to visit here and try local food.

San Franciscos . Chinatown is considered the biggest outside of China!? Lots of JUNK TO BUY. LOTS OF FOOD TO EAT. LOTS TO SEE. Walk down Stockton Street and you would think you are in China all the Produce, Fish and Meat Markets or Walk through the DRAGON GATE at Bush St. at Grant Avenue. A Wonderful place To VISIT!! 😎😂👍

Very cool place to walk around and see a way of life less familiar than the typical day-to-day we are most used to. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to visit while wandering around. We were fortunate enough to visit on Chinese New Year and got to see a few street performances as well as here a few firecrackers. I have visited before but each trip is a unique experience. A great way to spend a few hours or a whole day.

So vibrant, tons for asian imports, produce, souvenir shops, people are kind and welcoming. The graffitis are spectacular and lanterns hanging between buildings give you a feeling you are somewhere in Asia.

Not as spectacular or lively on one Friday afternoon. The shops were closing early in the evening saying that there have been several robberies and the place becomes dangerous in the night! Not a great atmosphere and we had to leave the area early.

Chinatown SF is a must visit stop if you’re traveling through the city - you can’t miss it! China town spans across several blocks and it is defined by its unique Asian culture and cuisine. You can delicious, tasty, affordable, and authentic dishes in some of the original, long standing restaurants. There are plenty of grocery stores, gift shops, souvenir stores, jewelry shops, and tea/dessert places to try. Would caution against walking around at nice since most stores are locked up securely and it is not as brightly lit as some other streets. There is also a square with a kids park and a pagoda-like structure for nice seating outdoors. Lots of walking and hills in this area.

Chinatown is one of my favorite places to visit in San Francisco. In fact I have been to various Chinatowns around the country and the world such as New York and Bangkok.I love the energy and vitality around this place . Its filled with tourist shops and great restaurants Tea shops that sell various kinds of tea go inside and they give free classes on the various teas. Herbal shops selling exotic herbs used for Chinese medicine . Asian grocery stores that sell exotic fruits and vegetables you will never see in Western Markets . Dont forget to go to the dim sum shops and try the various Dim Sum delicacies.Chinatown has a lot to offer theres also Temples in Chinatown that most tourists never Venture to see .If this is your first trip to Chinatown I would advise you not to stick the main tourist drag Grant St but venture a block up from there to Stockton st. There you will find many Asian supermarkets herbal shops and many Restaurants. This is the local Chinese community shops and eat .

San Francisco Chinatown, I think is the Chinatown in North America that has a more Chinese atmosphere. The location of San Franciscos Chinatown is very good. It is not only accessible in all directions, but also surrounded by many attractions. Vast area consisting of several blocks representing Chinese culture.On the plus (+) side:- Lots of good restaurants of different cuisine, but most are Chinese. I saw some Vietnamese and Japanese restaurants.- Many gift shops, herb stores and practically whatever you can think of from China.- Pleasant walk. Some roads are closed for walking purpose.On the minus (-) side:- Cigarettes smells everywhere, even in public sidewalks. I have a kid so this is a bother to me. Usually, you’re not allowed to smoke in public.- Urine smells in some area, mostly vacant store walls or parking lots. The lift’s area of the public parking lot I visited today was full of this smell, so it attracts tons of flies. Waiting for the lifts was terrible.

Supposedly the biggest China town in the world. It does feel like youre in China. Hardly any non Asians in the streets. Lots and lots of closed shops during opening hours. I assume COVID hit the area hard. Shocking opening hours. The stores close at 17 30. Very unlike China and unlike USA. VERY IMPRESSIVE METRO STOP!!!!!!! ITS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Food was disappointing! Had such high hopes. The level of food quality was way lower then in the London China town for instance. And also prices are way better in London.

San Francisco is a beautiful city. I missed visiting this place. I came here during the Chinese new year and it was magnificent. The dancers were awesome and love the beautiful traditional clothings they wore. The food was great and loved all the shop around the strip.

China town has remained a little gem on the list of places to see while in the City by the Bay! A fantastic way to spend a few hours, grab an affordable meal and some Chinese baking for later. Having been to NYC’s Chinatown and living near Vancouver, SF’s Chinatown is huge, and pretty clean in comparison. Don’t miss Ross Alley where the cute decor hangs above the streets. Chinatown San Francisco is a MUST destination to visit when youre in SF! Coming here on weekdays might be a better idea with fewer people than on weekends, but you can find meter parking close by the gate without getting towed.Make sure to bring cash since most businesses here prefer cash payment. Otherwise, you might miss opportunities to try excellent local Chinese foods. There are also few banks but long lines up to 15 mins wait.Some restaurants are cheap and famous so you might encounter long waits, even up to 30 mins.Plenty of options for boba stores, dim sum, local Chinese foods, and souvenirs. If you get lucky, depending on the occasion, they host shows and events with car shows or other good stuff! Its a popping and busy area! I love the colorful decorations and the communitys fullness to show tourists! Volunteers even help you cross the streets by holding yellow ropes.Parking is hard to find during peak or non-peak hours since its a residential and tourist area. I highly recommend finding a parking garage at Union Square and walking over to enjoy many stores, restaurants, and places here! You need 2-3 hours to explore everything or at least an hour to be here!If youre willing to walk, there is a parking garage close to Macys in Union Square, and you can walk and explore this neighborhood and other areas stress-free. Do NOT leave anything in your car, or you will regret it since they might break your window to steal.

Positively amazing! I absolutely love wandering around and visiting the wide array of shops. The shopkeepers have always been so nice and curteous, and I have learned a great deal from various history tidbits to small bits of language. The food I have found is spectacular, by far the best ever Ive had. Pork buns are a must have, followed up by fresh fruits and a stop at the gem shop to see shinies and then kites to fly at the park. Very photogenic, and overall loads of intriguing places to investigate. Plan a day!

It is so beautiful decorated with symbols and accents from Chinese culture and so many different market and food options.The entrance is majestic and there are murals scattered throughout the town that are vibrant. All the details are what makes this Chinatown so well known throughout the US.There is shops right at the entrance that are not Asian-owned so I would steer clear. Definitely go to the Fortune Cookie Factory when there and plan to take some home with you. The strawberry flavored cookie rounds were my favorite. I went to Chinatown during the day and again in the evening. Both times were nice.

Such an amazing place to visit! So much to see and do: people watching, shopping, street musicians, beautiful styles and decor to view, and wonderful food. We saw the outside of the oldest temple, Tin How Temple, and The Fortune Cookie Factory. Its such an educational and cultural experience for children-one to be remembered for years to come and shouldnt be missed. The area feels very safe though crowded. Best explored on foot. Most shops do post many signs which say you break, you buy so use caution, however, if looking for souvenirs in San Francisco, this is the affordable spot as there are an abundance of cute shops with both tourist based products, but also unique and fun finds.

We loved wandering up this part of town. A wonderful selection of shops all offering something different. The food choices were also good and we asked a local shop keeper where to eat and then went and had lunch. It was awesome. Highly recommend you walk these streets. Another must place to visit “ China town “ yes the shops are tacky selling tourist rubbish ( somethings are good ) the food is amazing and some of the buildings are grand.

Walking into Chinatown transports you into another country. Sidewalk signs and storefront names written in Chinese, along with Asian murals and Chinese lanterns strewn above. Theres tons of shopping, items tightly packed into stores much cheaper than the tourist traps at the wharf. A wonderful time to window shop and find unique items. Everyone i encountered was so pleasant. As with most of San Fran, bring your walking shoes as parts are definitely on inclines.

Biggest Chinatown outside of Asia! Chinatown San Francisco boasts richness of culture and fascinating areas throughout. It is filled with multiple restaurants, stores, places of business, etc. The decorations are something to not miss and definitely adds beauty to the area itself! This the cleanest Chinatown I’ve ever visited, and being from NYC, that means it’s immaculate :) there was great Asian novelty stores, where you can get Asian ingredients, teas, and herbs. Great stores to buy souvenirs, and of course lots of food. There’s access to public transportation in a few surrounding streets, and you can ride the Street Car as well. This was a great stop for shopping and pictures while visiting San Francisco.

It was nice to walk around the China Town. I didnt know its the biggest Chinatown in US, it doesnt look like that if you only walk there for a few hours, but it looks authentic and interesting. Most of the stores are for food. We only tried some dumplings and some fried stuff that was good. It was also quite empty and not crowded at all.

I really loved walking here. Its not that small, I went early so the sun was not a problem. In the market you find fruits and vegetables (some so exotic that I do not even know what they were), crafts, seafood and meats, the typical duck, Chinese food restaurants, souvenirs and lucky cookies and more. It is full of urban art, pretty graffiti of dragons.the alleys are very nice, by chance we came across an alley in which there is a cookie factory, people are very kind.

China town was exactly as you would expect and a fun place to visit. Lots of restaurants to eat at and plenty of stores to buy interesting gifts or trinkets from. The streets were lined with colorful decorative displays of variations of Asian cultures. From beautiful large scale colorful murals adorning the walls of buildings. To intricate carved dragon columns and architecture. A lot of store fronts were markets for fresh produce and seafood. While at times these had unpleasant ordors to endure, theyre extremely interesting to browse, with many things you will unlikely have seen. Hit the footpaths and enjoy walking through these streets, fun to see so much variation. We felt safe walking here.

Fruit and veggies are so affordable! As a tourist, Ive seen some fruit Ive never seen before. There are a lot of variety as well. The plastic bag would cost you 99c if you take extra ones. Also lots of big souvenir stores are selling all sorts of stuff with Chinese heritage -the biggest collection outside Asia. Definitely worth the trip and trying some Chinese delicacies. Its an icon now with lots of movies and TV shows filmed here.

Love this place! Went here everyday I was in SF to all the markets and the AA bakery (very good food there). Be sure to get there before 3 if you want the full experience of busy Chinatown. I live on Nob Hill so I walk thru Chinatown on the regular. I do enjoy the area and there are some killer vegetarian options to eat and some interesting tea houses. I love the murals and enjoy the street vibe a lot and usually feel safe. My big complaint about Chinatown is the amount of trash generated. Everything seems to be single use and wrapped in plastic. There needs to be better effort for recycling and sustainable practices imo.

I didnt find the Pork Chop Express or Lo Pan hiding in the alley ways. But I did find a bustling Chinatown that no doubt is trying to put Covid19 behind them. The main streets were packed. Try to find the side ones that have all the cool shops and art on the walls. The sound of Chinese dialect by passer bys. Shops, eateries, stores were all crowded. Fresh flowers and bok choy could be smelled in the air. And even over that was the sound of a dance/music team practicing for an upcoming event. Above, chinese and taiwanese flags lined the streets. Walked through Chinatown starting at Dragon’s Gate. It was late mid morning and the various interesting shop and restaurants were just open. It was an assault on the senses, noisy, colourful, bright with exotic interesting smells and odours. It was all just a bit overwhelming. I walked down to Portsmouth’s Square where there were many groups of elder Chinese men playing a card game I was unfamiliar with. They would loudly slap down a card followed by an loud exclamation. Others were relaxing in the sun and there were groups exercising. Well worthwhile to stroll through Chinatown when visiting San Francisco.

I noticed that the lanterns are relatively new and looks like they did a good job re-painting the lantern posts. Please excuse me if I walk too fast and bump into you. I might be on my way to get in line for the pork buns at one of the Dim Sum to go places. Spent some time just walking through the many streets. Chinese culture on full display maybe more than anywhere in America, in my opinion. A lot of the artifacts looked cheap, and there are souvenirs abound. Got some food at one of the spots, and it was banging. I think the best Chinese food in America is right here in this district, as it is full of tourists, but still feels so authentic & genuine. Its definitely a good idea to walk it, from the entrance at Dragon Gate, at Grant Street. Just give yourself plenty of time to take it all in. Parking is a hassle, as it is anywhere in SF, so give yourself some time to find it.

Went out for a drive on Saturday afternoon and wife ended up driving us to San Francisco, headed to Chinatown. Found parking at Hilton hotel near by, flat rate was decent 8 dollars to be exact. Started on Washington st and walked up hil.to downtown Chinatown, this place is so exciting everything from tea store to toys and restaurants, we took our time.and really had a super time exploring all.the fun shops, sounds of old Chinese instruments could be heard, smoke from cigarettes can be seen and smelled.all around, tourist all.over taking photos and eating local delights, you need a day here to even see the whole Chinatown, to.our luck, they were having a dragon parade, super.load and incredible dancing dragons, first time I ever seen them so close, if possible Id would recommend a stay at hotle near by to enjoy durring morning and night.

Do not make the mistake of driving. It was very chaotic and would be best to use the public transportation or get a Uber. I was trying to park on the street with a meter and I was told they were for permits only (business delivery’s). So the is our 3rd time retiring to this fun resturant! Whenever we come to the city we always try to hit up china town and get something special to eat. We love this resturant as they have a great menu and our favorite part is the unique little balcony dining which allows you to sit outside and enjoy the city sounds and sights while dining. It is a real treat. We like to get the sampler promo they have to try a few different things and we always get my favorite which is the honey walnut shrimp dish. Truly and tasty and unique spot!! They also give a potsticker and ice cream at the end (which the kids loved). We loved Chinatown. The hustle and bustle is exciting to be a part of. We found some really cool stuff. I bought spices, friends bought Asian knick knacks. We all bought candy. All the shop owners were very nice. You can find many unique and unusual things here. We also saw acrobats practicing routines, which was amazing.We liked our experience.

We visited a Friday (noon) and our overall experience was pretty good. We walked across the streets, stopped to take pictures and admire the astonishing murals. From my point of view a downside for the place is the amount of homeless people and we made the mistake of entering Chinatown through Portsmouth Square which I personally do not recommend as there’s a prominent smell of weed and is very very dirty. But in general I consider Chinatown a great place for souvenirs, hoddies, postcards… and to eat dim sum.

It was cool to see. You are definitely or if youre element as a non-Chinese wandering through the streets. So many travel agencies, beauty parlors, and jewelry stores. There are a few authentic Chinese restaurants, but the cat majority are American Chinese food ( nothing to do with real Chinese cuisine).

China Town is a seperate world in San Francisco. Labels, shops, buildings,food, products and the language reflects China totally. It is an exotic neighbourhood and I felt intimidated because I could not understand anything. I went in to buy so e food but could not communicate with the salesperson because I didnt speak Chinese. I saw one store with a huge line in front but couls not make it in. The streets are crowded and narrow making it hard to use a stroller. If youre in SF definitely take a walk and explore the shops.

Im so nostalgic about this place. My grandma was a long time resident and business owner here, so I see it through that lenses. You will find the best produce, especially exotic ingredients here. Its not for everyone, but my mouth starts drooling when I see the ducks and chickens and dumplings in the window. There is a smell, so specific to Chinatown.. its like incenses, spice, dumplings, and fish. Some people cant stand it, but for me it brings back memories of playing at the park with Grandma and helping her buy her groceries. I love taking visitors to the fortune cookie factory for sexy fortune cookies. I wait for the parades and the dancers. Parking is tough, I usually plan on walking quite a bit when I come here.

While I was visiting the city, I walked through the Chinatown. It gave me a very authentic feel (close enough). I happened to see the dragons dance put up and some fireworks show. Great experience!

This is the biggest Chinatown I have yet visited! The area it covers is extensive and still retains an active Chinese community! (Many Chinatowns around the world are dying due to rising Chinese societies in other areas of town).Grant St is a street for tourists with many souvenir stores, whilst on Stockton St you will find many locals shopping for grocery.The Chinatown is lively during the day, but shops start to wrap up the day after five in the afternoon.

If youre into Chinatown type places you will really like it here. Multiple blocks long and not all of it is super touristy, there are a lot of authentic Chinese shops and restaurants if youre looking for the real thing. Theres definitely the touristy part as well if you just want to see that. Pretty easy to spend a few hours here.

San Francisco s China town is probably one of the largest in the US (the one at Flushing New York is definitely much larger). However it is more a tourist attraction place instead of a functional community for Chinese immigrants (the Flushing Chinatown is very functional in this case). There are many good Chinese restaurants here in addition to numerous tourist sovineur shops. It is interesting or disturbing to learn that most Americans impression of China comes from their visit to the Chinatown. It is sad to see the descendents of Chinese immigrants are no longer aware what is going on inside morden China. And they help to foster stereotypical images of Chinese--cloth shoes, pigtails and paper fan--just look at their shop displays which could only be found 100 years ago. They should have something more representive of modern China.

San Franciscos Chinatown is suspiciously unchanged - still loaded with alleyways, and old neon - as though to comply with some zoning ordinance time itself has stopped. It has more tourist restaurants than Asian groceries, but the vibe is terrific. Be prepared to walk up hills, and lookout for Dashiell Hammett in the shadows.

I had the best dinner at House of Nanking. It was very authentic Chinese food. There were several cheesy tourist stores but it was nice to walk around there for a bit, and there was even a street band playing Chinese music, which was pretty cool.

Getting around here is a mess, especially if you drive, it gets crowded in one way traffic streets with one lane going uphill. Try going before 4 for sure to avoid traffic. Its hard to find where youre going since its hard to find an address and in English

An amazing little part of San Francisco. It is a must for shopping and lunch. Make sure you stop by the park in the middle of China Town for some Tai Chi.
