Went on a Saturday to see if I can adopt puppies, they gave me a schedule of what was happening, when to come back, and what to do, I followed their orders and today I came 5 hours early just so no one could take them before me, I had a great experience, everyone was very nice, Mr. Manuel was a great help with paperwork. My puppies are now tired and resting, thank you guys

Had an absolutely horrendous experience showing up to adopt. I am a pet owner & work in animal welfare. I came into the shelter researched and ready to adopt. I spent 40 mins waiting for someone to direct me to the cat area. No one helped me, they instead let a grown woman argue with a small child over the adoption of a bunny. Then we finally ask to see the cats, and are given vague directions from an officer. First we get lost and go into an employees only room and then finally find the cats. My friend and I each confirm the two we want to adopt. No one in the room with us. I go back and get the officer. She proceeds to spend the entire time there UNTIL CLOSE telling me NOT to adopt, that I’m rushing my decision, and that I “shouldn’t believe everything I see online about euthanasia rates” & that SHE is in charge of making sure dogs get rescued. I explained how I’ve been trying to foster for months and after not being able to find support from a rescue had decided it was best to adopt a cat instead. She told me it was too late to do any adoptions. I believe the officers name is Diaz. I work in animal welfare and am fully aware that Carson has no issue euthanizing dozens of dogs a week especially to make room for July 4. Absolutely disgusting to talk an informed prospective adopter out of it. Waste of time and complete lack of empathy.

I found a small raccoon with broken hind legs at 11pm on a Thursday night. Called dozens of places. This shelter was the only ones who answered and promptly found the raccoon despite it not being close to their location. The staff is very dedicated to their jobs and thorough.

I found a stray dog at a late hour and was struggling to find anywhere that would accept her. They accepted her and took her in even though it was very late at night. They answer calls at all hours of the day. I’ve been calling to check on her and the staff have been very helpful.

I went there to get my dog a vaccine for rabies and the dog flu shot. they said they could not give him the vaccines because of a skin condition. these are not vets but vet techs. i lost my dog today to the flu. he caught it there.

I delivered a new mobile veterinary care unit and emergency disaster response unit to add to their fleet. They seemed to be quite efficient and they were very busy reuniting pets with their owners and adopting pets to their furever homes.

No-kill Animal Shelter. Due to Covid restrictions, everything is by appointment only.I went here with my family for a Love at First Sight appointment, and we adopted an adorable 5 y/o Pit Bull. Our other dog (also a Pit Bull) died recently, and I couldnt imagine going through the Holiday Season without a companion.Staff is very polite and informative. I hope I wont have to go back anytime soon, because picking out a new pet is never easy (I want to take all of them home with me) but I would highly recommend this facility if youre looking for a new furry friend or a feathered one, or even a reptile.

CONS-You need to make an online appointment in order to see your potential new pet.-Several families get the same time frame.-No social distancing.-No first come first serve. Most likely line cutters will be the first to get in.PROS-You get to interact with potential new pet.-If you find and like a ready to adopt pet you can take him/her the very same day.-The staff is sooo nice.So after one of my beloved 🐕 went to heaven I promised myself I would never get another furry family member, but my whole family decided it would be good to give a chance to another 🐕. We tried to adopt through SEAACA and Downey animal shelter with no avail. I saw those german shepard and pit bull mix puppies online but I wasnt interested in any of them but my daughter asked me to interact with one of them and I must say it was Love at first hug because as soon as she was place in my hands we both hugged each other and even my daughter was surprised how she attached to me. So I originally went to ask for information about other 🐕 and I ended up taking a little one who stole my ❤I strongly recommend adopting from shelters instead of buying from heartless people that dont even care about pets.

Everyone please go rescue a pet. Theyre having a special right now any no adoption fees I got my dog Rottweiler purebred I got a purebred Rottweiler hes only a year old he still sits to pee sometimes for free. Please everyone rescue a pet save them from being killed. Hes so big he makes my daughters Siberian husky look like a chihuahua. You can see the Siberian husky and the dog I rescued laying side by side.

My first time I adopted from hear it was a cat that I wasent hear for cuz the cat I wanted was put on a 10 day hold got hear today as I was told get hear early an then they tell me she’s not available I can come bk at closing an see if they can let her be adopted I try an speak to the Lieutenant an he has attitude I’m trying to explain to him the manager told me to be hear early so she would be mine an that’s when he finally changed his tone but the whole time he kept asking me an my two teenage sons to wait out side never did he tell anyone else I really have to say if my kids dident want this cat so bad I would of let my feelings out on what I feel about this place an I can say I WILL NEVER COME BK HEAR AFTER THIS !!!

I made a neglected case phone call to carson shelter to check in on a pet that was being neglected back in Nov 20th 2023. A wonderful lady on the phone was really nice and helpful, she told me I could check in with the same number 3-4 days after the incident & see the status.I called today and was greeted by another operator named Regina First I couldnt even hear her from music playing very loud, I told her I would like to check in to see how the case is going, she had put on hold, then was very rude in her demeanor. I told her the place I was calling about was a gated community and gave her the address. I called her very kindly and even when I noted her attitude I gave her kind energy back. She was unable to give me any information yet the other operator told me if I gave my number then it would be allowed. It sucks, especially being in this field that they allow one, unprofessional people work in a shelter. Given the reputation carson shelter has as a kill shelter, but also not able to do wellness checks. I live right infront of the house I reported on and I have not one seen an officer visit their doorstep.

I called the facility and was disappointed that regardless of what button I pushed, I could never talk to a live person. I drove to the facility to drop off two large bags of bedding and towels, which I was told was urgently needed. But when I arrived and asked where to leave them, the attendant nodded to the sidewalk and walked away. Really??I heard all of the dogs barking, and it sort of broke my heart, made me wish I could find someone for each and everyone of them.

Went here to adopt a dog I seen on their website. Wasn’t a match when I seen him. Found a girl dog that was mislabeled as a pitbull. She was amazing though I had to adopt her that day. Staff was very helpful with getting animals out to interact with us. Sad to say that they are low staff. So I encourage people to apply or volunteer to help these animals! A lot of bad things are said about these shelters. From my experience this animal shelter cared more about these animals than most people said in reviews! That’s why they work there and are trying their best to save them. Also they aren’t even doing it to make a profit. You adopt a pet, you pay a small fee and they will give you food, toys, blanket for your dog. Till you can get some.

Saw puppy A5542221 online and decided to call and inquire. The lady that answered said she would be available for adoption 3/29/23 @ 2pm since it was a Wednesday there was no appointments. I asked to be put on the list they stated no list it would be first come first serve. On 3/29/23 I called the shelter before heading over to make sure she would be able for adoption. I gave the man the puppy # and he said she would indeed be available. I arrived at the Carson shelter at 10:30 am to be the first person in line as it was first come first serve. Not to mention I stood in line rain and all to adopt this puppy. The facility finally opened at 2pm and the lady stated she was not available for adoption because she had to be neutered and would be available March 31st and on that day it would be by appointments only. So I asked if I can take her and bring her back for the procedure or take her to my own vet . Again no only if she were on medication. So now I stood in line for almost 4 hrs for nothing. I was given an appointment but I am not the 1st person on the list so I most likely will not get her. Carson you need to get your act together and give people correct information. I lost a day of work due to your incompetence.

Ive gotten all my furry friends from this place. Which is 4 total. They spay/neuter before releasing the pets to a new home and you get one free doctor follow up a month later. Which the adoption fee being around $110 is not bad. I also like to support this place because from what Ive seen they treat and house the animals well. They also allow you to interact with the pet outside of their kennel prior to adopting them.They keep it clean and organized (sick animals have separate housing) but they still house them. The adoption process is kind of tedious as you have to wait for availability and maybe you wont be there since the availability can be days later. So you cant get too attached to one pet but this is usual for shelters as a opposed to shopping for a pet which I don’t do. They now accept bedding and food donations!

Rescued a bunny from this shelter and the staff was very kind and knowledgeable. We have also rescued a cat in the past from this location. They have dogs, cats, rabbits and sometimes other animals (birds & farm animals). Clean location and animals come spayed or neutered with initial vaccinations & even a free check up with a local veterinarian within the first 5 days.

They had almost no cats, most of the cages were empty. Of the five cats they had, NONE of them were available to adopt, they were all being held for rescue agencies or something else. Nearly all of the dogs were pitbulls too, but I guess thats not their fault. What frustrates me is that they had no cats available.Update: I came back during Kitten season in June, and there were plenty of cats and kittens available. I adopted two at a special discounted rate, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

With a broken heart, I brought a deceased feral cat, I had been feeding since 2010, to this location. I named him Cookie. They were very kind and understanding. On that day, they were having adoptions. I observed very well cared for animals and caring people. Appeared to be a great place to adopt an animal.

I took my little dog to the Carson Animal Shelter. They have an animalclinic for the animal vaccinations.My dog got so scared at the clinic, but the staff was gentle to my dog.My dog did not have any problemsfor the vaccination. Also, they only charged $10.00 for the dog flu vaccination. This is the only placewhere they offer dog flu vaccination for the low price & their service is excellent. Then, visir the adoptabledogs. They said that you could see the dogs on Monday through Saturday between 11 AM- 6 PM.My friend wanted to adopt a small dogsuch as Chihuahua. I found a perfectdog for her. I saw a young, black smallfemale dog was quiet. Excellent experience. Staff is very friendly, helpful and thorough. They really care about the animals. Many different types of animals available for adoption including dogs, cats, rabbits, roosters and turtles. Very clean and sanitary. We adopted a cat and it only took a little less than 2 hours to get everything done and take our new member of the family home. I highly recommend this the Carson Animal Care Shelter to anyone 😊

Came to this shelter to adopt a puppy. They told me she would be available to be adopted the following day and that they opened at 11am. She said first come first served and no holds for any pets. We showed up at 1030am the next morning and we were 1st in line. When we went in to ask about the puppy all of a sudden she was not available? I believe they got paid off or someone was lying.

Called about a cat for adoption. Was on hold for 30 minutes. Finally hung up. They don’t answer calls or take calls. Everything is online. Appointments are booked a month out. By then the pet you want to adopt will be euthanized. These shelters are not trying to save these animals at all. They take them in and kill them all. They don’t even bother to take calls or make it easy to adopt. Extremely disheartening.

I know there are some bad reviews of this place, but my experience was GREAT. I brought my puppy in for shots. The main Vet there i forgot her name but she was a blond lady, saw my dog had some allergy skin issues and asked if I fed my dog chicken. I told her yes and was instructed to stop giving chicken for a while and BAM 2 months later no more rashes. I still give him chicken here and there just not on a daily basis. I am devastated by the amount of animals they have in there, rabbits, turtles, cats and dogs are the most abundant.The cat section is building number 5, the building lacks ventilation and there’s no sunlight through that place. The cats are piled up in cages. I can’t exactly recall but it was about 5 cages piled on top of each other all the walls of that room. There are lonesome rabbits in the darkest side of the building piled up too. In the middle a room with 2 chairs and a sad cat tree to a side, the walls are see through, they use it for you to try the cat. That room is increasing dirty and filled with multiple layers of cat hair that hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. They only let you try 4 cats, which is unfair to give all cats a chance. The oldest are usually in the bottom of the cages piles. I cried, and cried, and cried some more.The staff was friendly and you don’t need to make an appointment. They say they try the hardest not to put the animals to sleep…. But…. Those eldest, not so tame probably do.Please adopt, there are many places like this one crowded with beautiful pets that will always thank you for rescuing them.

A adopted a 1 year old female American shorthair tabby.she is very healthy yes they are short staffed but you have to be patient or come early. I went their recently their dog cages were kept clean and the dogs and cat are very healthy. I will come back to adopt a male american shorthair for my baby tin-tin so she wont be alone.

I had the worst experience with this shelter I adopted a albino terrier he was 3 months old.. he was sick they didn’t tell me beforehand and 2-3 weeks later he died from having a infection because the shelter did not give him his shots before neutering him!!!!!!!!! I wouldn’t adopt from this if I was you they will not tell you if something is wrong with your pup it’s sad…

The worst shelter ever! I came in because I found two under age kittens. I stood in line for half an hour and no one was able to help me. It wasn’t till I had to approach them till they helped me. I told him I found two kittens and I wanted to know if I can relinquish them here. A man had told me that if I relinquish them and if they can’t find a foster home they will euthanize them. He also told me that it is difficult to find foster homes for under age kittens.So, the likelihood of these kittens were going to be euthanasia. The man had asked me “why did you take the kittens? The mom would have come back.” I told the man that “my father had found them and have left them there over night for the mother to come back. It was already morning and the mom did not come back. So I decided to bring the kittens in.” I do not understand why he would want me to put the 2 kittens out in the construction site and contribute to the stray cat population. The man had also asked me where I have found the kittens and took my sisters ID and walked away. Another man had came out and told me that he had income the kittens. The man did not give me an option as to what I wanted to do with the kittens. Then another woman came out and insisted on taking the kittens. I told the woman that I did not consent or give my permission to give the kittens to them because they were going to get euthanize. She insisted in getting the kittens and told me that I had to talk to somebody else. So I did. The next woman told me that I should have been given an option. My options were to give them the kittens or foster them. I told him that I was willing to foster them until they were of age because I did not want them to get euthanized. The woman went back inside and soon later one of the same men came out. The man, then had the audacity to ask me “then why did you bring them in?” I told them that I brought them in because I thought they were going to go to a foster home. He then told me that if I was willing to foster then I shouldn’t have brought them here. I tried to do a good thing but I was treated horrible. I work at a animal shelter and we give every animal a chance at life. We do not euthanize because we can’t find a foster home and we definitely don’t tell the public to leave underage kittens back to a dangerous area. This is a place to avoid especially if you care about animals.

I had a pleasant experience here. The staff were nice and patient. i adopted two kittens from here and i love them so much. i recommend anyone who is looking for a pet to come here. My kittens were free, but because they were so small they hadnt been neutered yet so I just had to leave a deposit of $40 each. Which will be returned once they have it done. Be sure to take pictures of multiple animals before going back inside to check if they are available, sometimes some are just waiting to be picked up, that way you wont have to keep walking back and forth.

After a long day of figuring out a situation with a senior husky, I was able to adopt this super precious girl from Carson and the ones who helped me through it all were great. We fought hard all day to make this adoption possible. None of us gave up on this senior girl, and now she is home forever!

The staff is unbelievably rude on the phone. They scheduled an appointment with me to meet a dog without confirming the appointment time and when I called to see if any other times were available, I was yelled at, told absolutely no other time could work (despite me being the only one on the interest list for the dog), and finally hung up on. I have NEVER seen staff at an animal shelter treat adopters so rudely and it makes me seriously question how the dogs are treated at this shelter. Based on the other reviews, it seems this shelter needs to be investigated because the staff would do anything to avoid filing paperwork or doing their job.

Terrible terrible place!!! You would think that the people who are here are there for the animals. I highly doubt that! Lady who works there is a rude bitter women who clearly hates her job. My sister found an animal and tried to turn it in and the lady told her why would you get an animal off the streets if you werent intending to keep it? Like wth. My sister was so mad because she didnt want the dog to be eaten by a coyote or hurt on the streets and this lady had the audacity. Like this is why people dont save animals on the streets because theres rude ppl like her who make no sense. She shouldnt be working there if her job isnt for the love of animals.

What happened to A5206969????????My dog of 15 years was put to rest 5 months ago due to cancer. My house had not been the same. So I started visiting shelters, My previous dog came from one. I went to Carson one weekend because they often have the breed of my previous dog. Then on August 4, 2018 I saw A5206969 who was found the same day and would not be available until August 9, 2018. I met her and knew she was the perfect addition to the family. I put my name on the list for her and I was the first on the list. I came back on August 5, 2018 just to see her again to make sure the connection was real. By Monday August 6 I got off work and went to buy her treats. I went to the shelter and her cage was empty and the papets removed. I asked where she was staff said she was moved into a cage with another dog. I looked and she was not there. I walked around to every building and could not find her. I went back to the office and got assistance but even with the technicians help we could not locate her anywhere. I was crushed and the technicians admitted maybe she had been stolen. The staff was friendly. But what happened to A5206969????? I cried all the way home, I had not cried like that since my dog passed. Its hard to open mind and heart to welcoming a new member to your family. Only to be led astray. I hope that if she was stolen she is in a good place. If you have had this experience please respond. Thank you for reading my post.

I have been a veterinary technician for 22 years. One who loves to rescue dogs. I tried for 6 days to speak to anyone at Carson shelter to meet and adopt a 2 yr old malinois that had been there for several weeks. The main LA office constantly gave me the wrong information stating there was a full wait list and wouldnt take my information just in case they didnt work out. I called again that same evening and was told she was rescue only and had a wait list, she cant be both. I called every day trying to get the correct information to adopt her. The LA office would not give me Carsons direct number, so I had to wait on hold everyday sometimes twice a day for a minimum of 30 minutes and up to an hour. I was communicating with a group working with the shelter who told me everyday she was available and people werent coming to their appointments to see her. Finally on the fifth day the group was able to speak to the Sargent who said no wait list and not a rescue. They gave him my info to schedule an appointment to meet her. The shelter never called me back. I called again on the sixth day and requested to speak to a supervisor. He confirmed that she was available after being spayed and that there was one person ahead of me. When I asked why I got the run around for 5 days and no response he had no answer. I asked how to get on the list which quite frankly I should have been first on since I got the run around for 5 days. I even left a detailed message for the shelter manager Sheri Koenig who of course has yet to return my call, Im not surprised. Its just me, my husband, and my 7 yr old retriever. She would have been a perfect fit for our family, be my running buddy, go hiking, go to dog beach, go camping, have a best buddy who adores her, be pampered, and all the veterinary care she would ever need. The shelter said no young children or small animals. Because of the miscommunication, lack of response, lack of consideration, and incompetence we never got to meet her. She got adopted today. Im happy she has a home but disappointed and disgusted with how inconsiderate the shelter is. With all the miscommunication and no return calls to make appointments, it amazes me they adopt any animals at all!

The appointment-only process they have in place for meeting the animals is very unaccommodating and strict. When I first emailed them about my interest in a cat, they scheduled me for a weekday without confirming with me whether that date/time would work. When I emailed them back saying that the date/time wouldnt work for me, they said I would have to wait until I missed my appointment and then email them again and again and just hope that the next time slot they assigned me would work out.After many phone calls with many different people, we were able to schedule a date/time that worked for us. Went in, lovely group of people, very very helpful. Found a little dog, so loving and friendly but was not available yet because it was a stray and them hold them 7 days so people can find their pets. We signed up to adopt him. He had no chip, no collar. This Monday we pick him up after shots neutering. We visit Sunday before during play dare hours of 3-6. All the dogs there are a lot of pit bulls but a bunch of sweet small dogs, too. Bring ear plugs. The crew there was constantly cleaning up. They were very busy. They work hard and there is only so much they can do with over crowding. Dear people, spay and neuter. Adopt from this place if you can. They can only hold so many dogs. Adopt an older dog dog if you can, even a one year old. We had a wonderful time here. I wish i could have taken all the small dogs home but this one dog we now call Joey bonded with really quick with us. Give this shelter a chance. Save a life. Los Angeles county laws are the ones making them put the dogs down. These are real people with real hearts that work there. Its heartbreaking for them, too. Always happy to donate food for the animals at the shelter, today I dropped off a case of wet cat food. Carson animal shelter needs a lot of donations, they are located in a busy industrial area. Never been inside the kennels but from what I can see the animals dont have much space to roam around. A friend of mine has been mourning the loss of his dog for quite a while and I convinced them to come take a look at this shelter. It is easy to get to, a very clean well organized and staffed shelter, and Im so glad and appreciate that it is a no kill shelter! The very 1st dog we ran into was so loving, calm and easy going. The keep the place so clean and provide many areas for people to visit with the animals if they are interest it. I have been adopting pets here over 27 years. Ive had my first dog from this shelter. They have made huge improvements. I like to give a big thank you to the gentlemen that helped me with my deceased dog that I adopted 15 years ago from this same shelter. He came and respectfully helped me with her cremation. Our dog got out, and they called us letting us know that she was out . ( How nice .) It would have made sense for them to also mention, once my boyfriend arrived at the shelter, someone was going to have to come and evaluate the premises to make sure she didnt get out, before he could even get her out ( but they didnt). Cool. They failed to mention that was going to run at about $250. Two days later (tonight ) he goes up to get her, and now its running almost $500 to get her out. The girl was rude, stating that whoever let the dog go the first time was wrong, and all sorts of other mess. I dont understand how all of a sudden all of these other fees are added and they have to be paid. The original fee is what should have been paid, not all of this extra made up mess. It is unprofessional . That shelter isnt a hotel. Those dogs are in their cramped up, sitting in their own feces and vomit. It smells, as if nothing is cleaned, and all these people do is put the dogs down anyway. How is it that you are suppose to help people get there dogs out, but we have to pay damn near a flight to Africa to get them back. People who actually love their pets have to pay an arm and a leg for things. Long story short, there is no reason all of those fees should have been added, the girl at the desk was literally making up things to charge us for. And they only care about making money. Not to mention, someone FOUND HER AND BROUGHT HER IN. THAT SHELTER DID NOT FIND HER OR BRING HER THERE.

They do not strive to find every animal a home. Rhino was a dog they had a little bit ago and he “bit” one of his owners who refused to show pictures or any sort of proof. A very nice lady outside of the shelter had found him a trainer who was wanting to take him in and this shelter kept him from them and still killed this poor dog anyway and did absolutely nothing to try and wait for this lady to get him when everything was already arranged for pickup and getting this puppy a home they killed him anyway. I was trying to turn in a sick kitten with severe diarrhea. A female officer came out to me, just by looking at the kitten and told me that it looks completely healthy even though she saw all the loose stool there and hearing me telling her that this kitten had been having diarrhea for two days. That was just flat out lying and I can’t believe someone who is working there would lie like that. They insisted me fostering the kitten and that they couldn’t take it because it’s not sick. If that’s not sick I so don’t understand what is being sick. I had to visit them 3 times, called so many parties so they finally checked and took in the kitty when they should have done it in the first place. I adopted my third animal from the Carson Shelter. My first 2 were about twenty years ago. I also helped foster 2 other pets who were pulled from this shelter. All in all I think they do a good job with what they are supposed to do.This time around I adopted a pitbull. I saw him online and on Facebook. The shelter took him to adoption events and cared for his medical needs-let me say, I was surprised how often he was treated. He was there for 3 months and had several evaluations to ensure that he would find a family that fit him. I was able to request some time with him in a play yard just to see some of his personality outside of a dog run. Yes, they are very busy. Please be prepared to spend some time waiting. If you end up adopting a dominant breed, you will go through an interview as well. Instead of being turned off by how things were run, I was encouraged to see that these people really cared about the welfare of the animals. Now having already had experience in adopting, I was lucky enough to have missed the kennel cough that ALL shelter animals have. I did have to treat my new dog for allergies(not the shelters fault!), Fleas, a skin infection, and ear infection. Pretty standard stuff.

Trying to adopt one poor dog from here was like trying to take gold from a pirate! I was told different things about the dog by different staff members. The dogs kennel card said Take me Home today! But when I went up and asked to adopt him, they said he was Rescue Only because he pulled on the leash and bit at his leash. The employee, a Sgt, said to get a Rescue to pull him for me and then there wouldnt be any problem.What is strange is that I saw a rescue try to pull him earlier that morning and they told her they had to have a waiver....So this poor dog whos been at the shelter for 4 MONTHS had 2 people ( 1 individual & 1 Rescue) attempt to adopt him today but the shelter made it too difficult !!!!Yet this dog will end up being killed there!!!!This is WRONG in SO MANY WAYS!!!That little guy shouldnt be pacing in his cage tonight!He should be feeling the love that people are trying so hard to show him!My heart is breaking for him right now💔.Im sorry we failed you Shogun. I brought in a sweet, sad lost pup my sister in law and I found late at night, and Animal Control officer Jason helped me out. He was a very calm and compassionate presence and put a scared dog and a person who desperately did not want to leave a dog at a shelter at ease.Not a day later, the owner was called (thank goodness for microchips!) and the dog was reunited with her family. Jason gave me the dogs ID number so I was able to track her progress and follow up on making sure she found her way home, and everyone I talked to on the phone throughout was patient and professional and encouraging. Notified them the puppy I was interested in adopting had green snot coming out of his nose. They said that he would be seen by a doctor and the next day when I went to adopt him they said that he was on antibiotics. I asked if he had parvo they said no that he would not be allowed to be adopted if he did. I get the medical record there is no mention of antibiotics or being seen by doctors in the last week. Within the same day that I got him I could hear his shallow breathing. They had to clean him up enough to look good for the cameras at the adoption event. I had to take him to the vet the same day and get him antibiotic and a fecal test. Within the last two days as puppy has stopped eating and drinking water can barely walk is throwing up and panting. I will either have to take him back to the shelter or spend at minimum another $300 in addition to the 200 that are already spent at the vet. Not to mention the adoption fee. These animals need to be assessed and there should be something from a vet that they can be cleared the same week or day with discounts if there is an issue. Beyond that their kennels need to be cleaned out with vinegar and water. It is cheap and can be donated. This would cut down on so much infection rate and this dog was kept in a space with three other dogs of different ages. Who knows what this poor puppy has and I have to make the decision to take him back to a kill shelter because of how expensive his treatment could be. There is a line to be drawn between a responsible pet owner and being taken advantage of! I know that this is better than dogs just being killed but this is what gives pet shelters a bad name our experiences like mine.

I wish i could give this place 0 stars. My dog had gotten out of my gate, and within 20 minutes my dog was picked up by the pound. My dog has a collar with her name and my number on her. They didnt even bother to call. If that is not enough, she is CHIPPED!!! By the time i found out where she was (which was 4) she was still in a tiny box in a truck. I told her that that was my dog, they said if i cant provide proof that she is mine and vaccinated and rabies shots then i cant have her unless i pay for her. Carson Animal Shelter is a kill shelter. A plea came out over FaceBook to please save this dog. I adopted Winchester two years ago from Carson Shelter. The dog was a mess! His previous owners had poured motor oil on him as a flea preventive, he had infections in both of his ears, and damage to his outer ears from flea bites. They had owned him for 3 years and he didnt even have a name! Also, he was underweight, and bug eyed from being scared. He was to be killed the day I got him. He is a wonderful pet and companion and I am so thankful to have him in my life! He is smart and had easily been house trained. I walk him daily and everyone loves him! Last year, on the day he was to be killed, I had a celebration of life party for him, at the park with all his doggy friends. Please adopt dogs from the shelter. They need a second chance.

They called me stating a kitten was ready for adoption. They also gave my roommate information on another kitten that was also supposedly ready for adoption. I was given a threat by one at my home after i decided against paying a quoted cost to euthanize my dog that was more than 6 times the amount for having someone come to my home and end her life with loved ones in a familiar place and compassion. The very thing he triedpto convince me that letting my dog die at home was a crime and that he was responding to a report against me. My grief at that time had me in a horrible mental situation and upon follow up can find no such indication that the vet made any kind if complaint against me though she must have at least shared my address and information about my dogs condition as well as my intentions. But i never been contacted nor have been able to obtain any records that would lead him to come to my home with threats and lies framed to intimidate. I regret that my head had not been focused enough to get his name or if numbers because as i cant find anyone able to provide info as no visits to my address were logged or reported getting a satisfactory understanding of this is difficult. An incident tainting the favorable experiences with the shelter that is responsible for 16 years of happiness i shared with my four legged companion o met there. I reccomend close scrutiny of anything that strikes you as unusual within the facility and question them extensively if they come to your home. Im unclear of motives so make sure you are vigilant

The animals seem to be well taken care of, and the volunteers are interested, but after we expressed an interest in adopting a kitten and were directed to the front office to register, thats where the helpfulness ended. Theres a queuing system by ticket, so we took one, but were then left standing clutching it while other people wandered in, went straight to the counter, and were dealt with by the one person there. Other staff just got on with desk work behind the counter, oblivious to the queue and making no move to help people waiting. The organization is a shambles, the staff ignore their own system, and are utterly uninterested in customers. As this place presumably exists to help people adopt abandoned animals, you would expect some degree of interest and helpfulness, but no. Well get a kitten elsewhere.

I went to the Carson Shelter many times before but I received the worst service from a supervisor by the name Guzman. about six month ago we adopted a beautiful rabbit we thought she needed a playmate so we look for about a month and found one we thought would be perfect. Now keep in mind Ive seen the people who work at the shelter be rude before. That is why we tried to find a rabbit at the San Pedro shelter without luck. The employees at the San Pedro are so wonderful really 5 stars. So when I went to pay for the rabbit I was told it would be 68 dollars, I told him I called and was told they are 15 dollar a special going on this man Guzman talked to me so bad that my daughter told about the way he was talking to me. Tomorrow I will be reporting him to his boss, if you have had this type of treatment you should report. They get one star because we found the most beautiful rabbit, Serena was her name and we kept it.No one at that shelter know what they are doing and the service is a zero.

I called to report animal abuse and apparently there have already been reports submitted. However when I asked for the representative’s name he said it so quickly that I couldn’t understand so I asked again and he said it the same way, very quickly and unclear; I proceeded to talk about the abuse and he informed me about the numerous reports already. He directed me to the abusers local authority’s phone number. I asked his name again so I could thank him properly, he said too fast again and then hung up before I could say another word.To him personally, not a good look, my guy, I know you’re a customer service representative; speaking slowly and clearly is essential, especially for your line of work and hanging up is never good conduct. The Carson Animal Shelter takes excellent care of the animals. The people up front can be very warm once you get to know them, which I have overtime. I used to be horrified to go to the pound and see the unloved unwanted animals suffering in their cages, but today I understand that the shelters are becoming no kill shelters. They do not put any animals down unless they are very sick with an ongoing condition that would prevent them from being adopted anytime soon or ever.I have adopted two cats, first was Kiki back 3 years ago and then Chouggie, 8 months ago. The animals are well-fed, cages are very clean they have nice bedding to lay on and toys to play with. I cannot say enough good things about the Carson Animal Shelter, accept go get yourself a wonderful new addition to your family you wont regret adopting from the Carson Animal Shelter.

Took feral kittens that were at a truck yard in the area. Couldnt capture all the kittens so only took 5 and left the mom. The officer who took them in was very insensitive, poking one of the kittens who was malnourished with his pen. I told him I thought the kittens were sad, since they were taken from their mom and are in a new environment. He proceeded to tell me that theyre animals and dont have feelings and to not personify them. Its discouraging to take animals there but no other shelter would take the kittens because it wasnt their area. I wouldnt have taken the kittens there but since no one else would take them I had no choice but to leave them.

We were 4th in line for our dog if the first didnt collect her the first day she was available, so I was there ahead of time and was amazed when nobody else showed up. Having been confronted by endless questionaires, interviews and limitless intrusions to qualify to save a dogs life on other (private) sites, i prepared myself for an interogation. Couldnt believe it, they only needed my address, signature and the fee. Whats more the fee was only $125, which included all the vet prep work.They were polite, efficient and friendly.Pretzel (as she is now known) is a wonderful addition to our family, loves walks, cuddles and burying my wifes socks in the garden. At first she was aggressive with other dogs but shes calming down now.Looks like shes a pommeranian/ chihuahua mix, a 4 lb fiesty pommerhuahua.

My dog got loose the other day and couldnt find her anywhere. Luckly a neighbor found her in the neighborhood and took her to the Carson animal shelter. They told her that my dog wasnt chipped and turned her away. But she is chipped luckily the lady took her to San Pedro animal shelter and checked her chip which she had and I I got my dog back. But by the grace of God I got my dog back and if it wasnt for the lady doing all that who knows what would of happened if it was someone else and when they turned my dog away saying she wasnt chipped when she was someone else might of just let her go or if they kept her saying she wasnt chipped she could have been put to sleep soon because shes a pitbull. DO NOT TRUST THE STAFF OR ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS. I will only tell you to go here and adopt so you can save the animals from the staff themselves. They euthanize dogs and lie to potential rescuers. They received a pit bull hat was mauled, used for bait, and left to die under a house. She had been ripped apart with wounds that needed immediate treatment. Other than her injuries, she was a sweet little 2 year old dog who never knew love. She was sacrificed and beaten by both people and animals and dug under a house to hide. Nobody bothered to search for whoever did this. Her pic went viral in the hands of rescuers. $2500 pledged to save her and a rescue group actually showed up in person to shelter to vet her themselves and take her for her better life. Sgt. Guzman told the person she was Off site being vetted. HE LIED. They killed her. They LIED and said she had Parvo. SHE DIDNT HAVE PARVO AT ALL. She was seen being walked by the same rescuer Who came back for her. People started getting concerned as they noticed the updated posts by the shelter started becoming peculiar. It was enough for rescue group to go see what was going on for themselves. That is when Guzman spoke with hem to their face saying the dog was being cared for. This story is very, very explicit. In a nutshell, she was never even treated for any of her injuries- and they were bad. Instead they wrote her off and euthanized her so public would stop calling. They lied and said she had Parvo. Like I said, she didnt have Parvo. She was NOT sick. She was beaten, but not sick. Still, no one bothered to investigate or document her intake conditions. Nobody can locate her for a necropsy to investigate whether or not she truly had Parvo. If she did, it could be treated. However, if she was treated, hat would mean they might have to pay hospitalization fees--- and why would they do that? Why would they offer to do their job ethically? They have a special service with WASTE MANAGEMENT that specifically picks up the carcasses they DESTROY. Yah, this is what you call an animal care officer and a chief of operations who make adequate money for this. Mind you they have a rendering site that PAYS THEM FOR THEIR DEAD CARCASSES to use for God knows what. Why would they actually pay for hospitalization when they can actually get paid for the dogs body itself? Think about it. This pit bull had rescue organizations from different directions waiting on her. She was going to be safe. SGT. GUZMANs lies are now an issue. This pit bull, named Noelle, was unethically killed. This shelter didnt allow her to be given a chance at love she never received. Her status changed constantly, making it more strict and difficult to help her. It came down to only a rescue group could save her.... And so they stepped up and physically went there before her hold was even up because they felt something was up with the way staff acted regarding her status. Thats when the staff had mixed stories. One officer didnt even know what the rescuers were talking about with the info Guzman had told them about being vetted off site. The officer know nothing about her ever being treated. He said he didnt know why she wasnt. Noelle was never vetted and tended to. She was never accessed and truly had Parvo. People SAW her getting walked right after her intake. She was not sick. Parvo dogs dont want to move. They are too ill. Noelle was not in any means a healthy dog, as she had been chewed like beef jerky and her face would make anyones heart break. Everyone wanted to help her. She was found left to die and only to be noticed by someone who led her to the monsters of Carson Animal Care in Gardena, California. My advice, go to this shelter. Find an animal and get it out of that lying, unethical hellhole. I guess when the Board of Supervisors who serve for the county are all buddied up in heir pecking orders, this is ok to let unethical laws and regulations slip and go not punished. They remind me of Monsanto. These are desensitized people who have each others backs. It is not ok, but it is happening.

This shelter has a team of very hard working volunteers however it needs:- more budget to create more kennels, they are overcrowded.- more highly qualified personnel, that will make correct decisions about dogs put in confinement for long periods of time. I and only available on 12/18. Sitting in kennel C118.This is no go, a cheap $4 skunk odor removal would take care of the problem, why condemn this poor animal to madness in a kennel for six months?? My review is based solely on my interaction and brief experience. In short, could you guys take down the animals that are no longer up for adoption from your “up for adoption” listing? Right now two are listed I’ve inquired about that had already been adopted or placed. It gets ones hopes up and is a bummer.

I would put zero stars if I could. Rhino, a Cane Corso was killed here. Don’t bring any animals here and do what you can to get them all adopted. Rhino was young and healthy and he had an owner lined up. The still decided to kill him.

We got a 2 month old terrier/chih mix. They spayed and vaccinated for free. They have beautiful animals who need homes. You can also volunteer at the shelter.

I got my dog from this shelter almost a year ago my experience was good overall don’t mind the negative comments from other people they should volunteer to clean instead of complaint about everything

Very friendly staff very helpful sometimes theyre busy but they make you their priority when you need some assistance. I would tell anyone they wanted to pet go grab an animal from the pet shelter
