The place has a very nice view of the beach if you sit in their outdoor seating. There was a little bit of a line on the a Friday morning, but surprisingly didn’t take too long. Their staff is exceptionally nice and helpful. One plus of waiting in the line is that you get to see what to order before they take your order. The food has good portions and is very nice. A plus is that they have vegan options. One downside is that there aren’t reservations, even though the line wasn’t too bad, and that they don’t have smoothies, which is a major downside for some.

This place has a great view with tables inside and on the patio.Upon arriving you’ll find there are two lines: one for takeout (typically the shortest line and you want to ask where it starts) and then the dine in line. Once you place your order at the dine in line and get your number, only then can you look for a table to sit.Alternative milk for coffee: almond coconut, oatThe pancakes are so good! At least share a plate with the table if you do anything.The sandwiches are “griddle” and will be toasted with butter or oil.

Youre paying for the ocean views rather than the food quality. Prices are high without reason, and theres no menu flexibility. Despite ordering in line and choosing a table, our food was incorrect. The breakfast is subpar: the fruit and bread are not fresh, the pancakes are from a store-bought mix, and the bread was stale and bulk-purchased. If you want a true, tasty breakfast, avoid this place. WiFi is also limited to one hour.

This is one of the best cafes with a view in San Diego! The coffee is delicious (their mocha latte is my favorite) and I always look forward to having breakfast or brunch here. Love the egg scramble dishes! The views of the water and Scripps Pier are wonderful.

5 star for the view and look. It is the best place to watch the beach and the pier. You can also see the La Jolla Cove from afar.You’ll need to get a number first before finding a seat. They are very strict about it so it takes a bit of luck to find a great spot. Ours was fantastic 😄right by the window on the patio.

Just the view, WOW! Its a fantastic way to start your day, making it worth trying out. I visited on a Friday closer to noon, so it wasnt too crowded. We were able to order with only 2-3 people in line, and our food arrived about 20 minutes after ordering, making for a smooth experience.We tried the tuna melt sandwich and the breakfast burrito, which were okay. However, the highlight of this place is definitely the view, with the food being decent. Our friends ordered the pancakes and raved about their fluffiness, thoroughly enjoying them.Parking on the street was easy and quick for us to find

I had received a gift card for Caroline’s from a lovely family we house sat for, so was excited to go and have a nice meal. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t great. I ordered a “well done” burger, it was not cooked right at all and was pretty plain in general for the price. The glass balustrade was filthy, tainting the view of the beach and shoreline. How is this place so popular with below average food, poor cleaning and average service? The best item I got here was my can of Diet Coke, that I got straight out of the fridge and drank with no glass, ice or straw.

Checked out the restaurant for brunch today. Located right next to the La Jolla Beach. The view is a 10 on 10.You have to order your food and then get seated. They will bring the food to your table. we had the Mediterranean scramble, egg, whites, scramble, avocado, toast, parfait, salmon bagel. We also got the café latte and macchiato.The food does take some time to come so be prepared to wait. The parfait and coffee was really good but the rest of the food was not that great. The Mediterranean scramble barely had any seasoning.I would go here for the vibe and the view not so much for the food.

Great little restaurant right on the beach with a beautiful view of the ocean and the Scripps pier.Parking was a bit challenging. You need to try and find parking in the neighborhood and walk to the restaurant. Its a small restaurant but there is a nice size outdoor patio area and more tables inside. Most people are outside to take advantage of the view. Thats why were there after all.Food was good and my mixed greens salad was very fresh. I do wish it had other vegetables on it though. Throw some cherry tomatoes or cucumbers on it? We ordered the chicken salad sandwich and the butternut squash panini sandwich.

I’ve never met someone so miserable in their life. 0 communication skills or customer service. Never left a review in my life until I had this brief 30 second interaction that left a surprising impression in such a short amount of time.

I absolutely loved this place. The food was delicious, the staff were amazing, and the atmosphere was super chill and quiet. Unfortunately, we went on a cloudy day or we would have seen some spectacular views from both the deck and the inside. I would recommend and will definitely revisit when I am back in the area.

I had the Albacore tuna melt and it was Very tasty!! along with that I had a grapefruit Mimosa, and for comparison I I also tried the Orange Mimosa. I believe the grapefruit Mimosa was much better in my opinion.The staff is very friendly and the views of the ocean are amazing!There are many options to choose from on the menu and the prices are very reasonable for how much food is served.I am a very happy and full customer of Carolines seaside Cafe😎🤙

Food was good, view is spectacular, but service is unbelievably rude. Greeted by angry emo girl at register upon entry. Food was good. Finished my meal, bussed my own table as a courtesy, and moved to a rear table while I finished my drink so other customers could enjoy front row seating. Was immediately told by owner? or manager? that I had to leave, despite the restaurant being at 10% capacity at 9am. No plans to return.

Really good spot for a quick bite. The short rib hash was excellent! Eggs a little over cooked, wanted runny yolks,but more on the over hard side. Bagel was delicious! The view from the balcony was great! Dont like the self serve coffee/water as its a hassle to get a refill every time if youre a coffee power drinker.

Weve been here several times. Mostly when we had out of town guests who would like to take pictures under the Scripps Pier. One of the best cafe’s to visit when in San Diego.The food is amazing.It is always always crowded.You have to pay first and then take a table or else the super alert manager will shoo you away, lol.You can’t stay at the table more than 30-40 mins after the food is served. Because they are always busy so they keep it very strict.Food is amazing, never disappoints. Coming here for many years now.Biggest drawback is the horrible parking. Weekdays you cannot park nearby since it’s all permit parking. Street parking is only 1 hour. You have to drive a bit away to find 2 hour limit street parking.But all in all Caroline’s Cafe is the best with amazing ocean views and delicious food.

Beautiful view from the La Jolla beach and Cove, in a cozy space. The service is great and most of staff are friendly. Friendly space with first-come-first-serve style for seating. You order your food and find a table for yourself, so sometimes you may end up waiting for a table with a better view for a some time. The food are all good. I really like their hot chocolate and their brunch options are all good. Definitely check this place out!

A great view and easy access to the beach right after your brunch/lunch.Saturday morning there was a 1-hour wait in the line to get a table and about 30 minutes to have your food.The food quality was ok, the potatoes on the side are awesome! This is a great place to have breakfast. A scenic ocean view while enjoying your breakfast. They have great service and very fast and friendly staff. We were going back here some other times. We went here around 9am so it was not so crowded yet. Lunch time will be a little busy. If you plan on driving here, find a street parking, most people will go to the beach for surfing so it may take some time to find a parking.

Caroline’s is located on a sunny upper-level balcony, across from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, with gorgeous views of the La Jolla Shores. It’s a counter service cafe, where you order your food at the counter before taking your number to any table of your choice.The line is always long here, but it does move fairly fast. Definitely carve out some time (10-15mins) to stand in line, unless you order food to-go.Caroline’s is the perfect place to enjoy a casual brunch/lunch with friends and family. The menu features pancakes, egg dishes, sandwiches, pastries, salads, and soups, plus a variety of beverages including beer, wine, mimosas, coffee, Snapple, and more. Great views of La Jolla and the ocean. The food is very ordinary. Since the place always has a line waiting, they don’t have the best service and I don’t think they care. Expect to be asked to leave immediately after finishing your meal. I saw the hostess ask a couple to leave if they were finished. How rude!

Must say this is probably one of the best spots to eat right by the sea and in a casual very affordable restaurant. To our surprise the food was quite delicious for the ambience and the price. The menu seemed a bit limited and simple but both the dishes we tried were delicious. Have to order in person and then find a table where they bring you the food. I think this is up there on our list of restaurants to try in San Diego and bring visitors too. Only downside though is there is no parking and have to find parking on the road and given the beach location it can be a challenge even on a weekday took us a while and had to walk good 5+ minutes.

5 stars for outstanding customer service! You’ll want to visit when it’s sunny and not too cold in the morning, the condensation on the glass protector outdoors will prevent the best ocean views. Amazing location and ambiance. Service was as expected since they were so busy. Food wasnt anything I would want to come back for. My burger was barely ok, mostly bland beef to blame. It had bacon and bleu cheese.. I even added an egg for good measure! Also tried the beef short ribs hash, which was really sweet, but it just seemed like slow beef cooked with too much sauce. This place was delicious! Reasons to why it’s sooo packed! You make a line (took us about 30 mins on a Saturday morning) but felt like line moved quick! You stop by a window an order the food. Then you are asked to sit wherever there is a space (inside or outside) and you can’t move once you sit. Outside area is packed so you may or may not find space! But either way both have great views and food was delicious!

Great food here. Although they offer healthy food, the foods are so tasty. I had a curry chicken sandwich and it was so delicious and I didnt feel guilty for finishing the whole sandwich.My wife got the avocado sandwich with salad. She absolutely loved the sandwich. She is a fan of avocado.There are many other great dishes here too. My friend who was with us got a burger and he told me the burger was great!During this pandemic time, the restaurant only offers takeout. But there are a few picnic tables right next to the restaurant and you seat there to eat your food and enjoy the beach and the fresh air.There is no park at the restaurant as its park of UCSD campus. But you can park at La Jolla Shore Parks parking lot. Plenty of parking spaces here. From the parking lot, there is only a few minutes walk to Carolines.

I had the worst experience! I arrived there at 2:35 and fully aware that they would be closing at 3, as soon as I arrived the cashier lady told me that my order is gonna be to go!! Why because they are closing soon, although seeing some people are still waiting for their order to be served! I told her it’s ok I’ll take it to go at this point I didn’t pay a tip because I was under the impression that it’s gonna be to go but I guess she changed her mind later on and gave me a number, I ordered the beef hash with eggs since it’s my favorite dish, the order came to the table and it was baaaad, the eggs were not cooked right the whole dish was overflowing with the sauce because it wasn’t cooked enough, no taste nor flavor! The food here is all right but the staff members are quite rude. I ordered a to go order and had some time to kill before class so I decided to eat in their café. They would not let me eat in there even though I had bought food and there were plenty of tables available in the café. They told me that because I had a to go order I had to leave and could not stay to eat my food. As a frequent customer I’m very disappointed in how they treat customers that buy food and will most likely not be coming back.

Disrespectful staff, one of the girls asked me to empty the table for her friends, just because she saw me sitting there for around 2 hours even though there were few empty tables, but she intentionally asked me to leave because I was by the view side, I ordered a few times like breakfast, then coffee and dessert, then some other brevleges. So so gooooood! My absolute favorite place to eat!! Food was refreshing and delicious. Seating was outdoors, underneath a pergola right next to the beach. The sea breeze felt delightful. Wait time was a little long for food but well worth it. I’d eat here everyday if I could. I had the avocado toast. Salad dressing was perfection. My 9 month old ate the whole toast and avocado. That’s how good it was!

This little seaside restaurant was a great recommendation from a friend. There is parking nearby both street parking as well as a lot that you can park in (weekends only). Prices are fair and the food is very good. Mimosas are very good as well. The staff is friendly and efficient and they have a system to make sure everyone gets seated as soon as possible.

We parked on the main street and walked in. It looked like there was a paid parking lot on site. Theres beach access and an amazing ocean view! Also a paved path above the beach for those unable to go on the sand. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. You order your food, get a number, and find a seat. Show up early before there is a line and the tables fill up! We went on Saturday and it got busy around 10. I would go back for pancakes with a view 🌊

I used to work nearby several years ago, and remembered that they were always busy and we should order ahead. I wanted to take my new coworkers to show them the view. We ordered online and picked them up (ready and waiting) and went to sit down and were immediately kicked out because we had not ordered dine-in. There were open tables and no line and no one waiting (at 2p, when they close at 3p). I was so embarrassed. I know its the beach, and I know theyre trying to keep people from using their seating as public seating, but we were eating their own food!On top of that, my supervisor is celiac and gets severely ill from gluten. They included a roll in his salad. He asked them to remake it, which they claim they did, but he was EXTREMELY ill for the next three days. We will never go back.

Had the Carolines parfait and the chocolate chip blueberry banana pancakes.The parfait is a desert consisting of yogurt, with blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and granola topping. The fruits seemed cherry picked sweet with barely any tinge of sour. I really wanted to love this place but unfortunately I can not endorse them. While some of staff is friendly overall the management was far from accommodating. The food is ok but not worth the prices they are charging. The chicken sandwich I got was mediocre and the chicken itself was rock hard. The pancakes were acceptable, but boring and I was disappointed that for the price they did not include real maple syrup. Ultimately you are paying for the view not food or the coffee. So if you go here get a cheap item and sit down and watch the waves. I do admit that view is incredible.

I gave this place multiple tries before writing this review, since Im staying in the area and I keep coming back for the yummy breakfast and amazing view. The first time I went was packed because of 4th of July so I wanted to see what they were like during a better time. They werent bad, but they were definitely a little overwhelmed and a couple of the workers were a little short with people. Although they are less crowded, they still are slow at cleaning the tables in between customers, and I end up having to stand and wait every time for my table to be cleared before I can sit. Theres a lady who comes around and cleans, but Ive only seen her once or twice out of the many times Ive gone. Today, I even had my food arrive before the table I chose was cleaned off. Overall, I think the food is pretty good and the view/atmosphere is fantastic - plus it is close to where Im staying. However, I dont think I will be coming back anymore because of some rude service Ive experienced and seen others have. First off they have a lot of weird rules - such as you cant switch tables, and, when I went with my boyfriend after I had already eaten breakfast there, he got a meal and I just got a coffee and we ordered separately. They wouldnt let me have my coffee to stay because I didnt get a full meal with it, even though I was sitting with my boyfriend who was. So they gave it to me in a to-go cup which was kind of weird. They also told a man with a service dog that the dog couldnt sit in the chair next to him and that he couldnt wait at the table while the rest of his party ordered the food inside. Lastly, this morning, I still had almost half my latte left after eating and was reading by myself and a lady came and told me I had to leave so that they could rotate the tables. I understand this if I was long finished with my drink and they needed the table, but there were multiple tables and even an entire big bench table available. This was the last chance Ill give them, since there are much better places with much nicer service around such as Pinpoint Cafe, where you can also still see the beach. A lot of the younger workers are nice, but I refuse to keep paying this much for rudeness. Also, there is ALWAYS a line for the bathroom.

One of the worst experiences I’ve had in a long time. we waited for over an hour to get in (not unusual for a brunch spot) then placed our order and sat at the pre designated table. The table that was chosen for us by the staff, was the only table directly in the sun. It was also a communal table. I saw 2 different parties that had been placed there as well move to other open tables in the shade. Seeing this, I asked a lady in a black sun hat, that was bussing, if we could move. Her response was short and rude. She told us we were not allowed to move. I was sweating and uncomfortable being in the direct sun for an hour. I finally got my food, but unfortunately had to wait an extra 20-30 minute for my friend to finally get hers. It was so hot and uncomfortable that we didn’t finish our food and left. The restaurant should have foreseen this given that it’s an open patio and no one wants to be in directly under the sun, sweating while trying to enjoy their food. An umbrella would’ve been nice. After leaving my friend noticed she had left her phone. We went back to get it and the rude lady, with black hair, wearing a big black sun hat rolled her eyes, when we asked if she had found a phone at the table we were just at. Terrible experience. Rude and mean lady who seems to hate her job. Do NOT recommend. Will NEVER go back

Prices where similar to Ihop. The food choices were not that great for me. I wanted better choices. Everyone seemed to just get the American breakfast since is the most complete platter. Kids menu would be great, and for the price that your paying, they should have servers. Didnt like having to stand in line, then order, and having to get up for coffee. I suggest that if you go during the cold months and order coffee, ask for a to go cup or your coffee will be cold by the time you get to your table.

It looks very nice in the photos but I tried to go with some friends and it was a nightmare! It doesnt have a parking lot and the only one there is in an elementary school and youre not allowed to park there because the police fine you. It is a residential area, it is a climb that if you are wearing heels FORGET IT, because if you are lucky to get a spot on the street it will surely be far and you will have to walk a lot. I went in heels and my feet were sore. Once we arrived SURPRISE, the beautiful view but a few tables outside available and there is no service to attend to you! Its like a Starbucks, you have to line up to order and they give you a number and bring it to your table. Therefore, if you want to spend the morning with your friends and eat and stay a while longer to have another coffee or whatever, then you have to stand in the long line again to order. So we left when we saw that and we didnt stay

The best thing about Caroline’s is the view but the food is also solid! You can’t go wrong with any of their breakfast foods and friends also say good things about the sandwiches.Be prepared to wait in a long line if you’re there after 10:30am on a weekend. If the line doesn’t extend down the stairs, you should have your food in 20 minutes.Only thing that kinda detracts from the experience is the intersection of the bathroom line with the food line. I suspect they did not expect to be so busy, otherwise would not have designed it this way!

I love the location, beautiful ocean view. Its a great place to go with family and friends for breakfast. Food is also not bad. However, I really dont like that they hoard the napkins inside of their counter, you have to wait in line for 5 minutes (because there were so many people asking for different things besides the ordering line) to ask for napkins when they forget to give it to you in the first place, and they only give you a couple of napkins when you have 5 people dining in. Why hoard the napkins? Put them out for your customers to use please.

Its so hard to find, from the street a vacant building hides it. While realizing you cant park in any parking lot near it you are in search of the impossible, at least on weekdays. We walked quite a distance, not something I want to do often. The view was worth it. Its a very casual order your food, then seat yourself and food will be served. The service was quick at lunch time, line not too long. The cold tuna salad sandwich was delicious! A lovely salad was served with it. I guess you can order diff. sides, I missed that and wasnt offered differently. Someday I will make the trek to battle the parking and enjoy a nice walk to and from Breakfast. They have self serve water outside which is convenient. Overall its a great hidden spot, really hidden.

I almost hate to add another positive review because this place is a gem. Priced reasonably with great breakfast and lunch options. Good coffee as well. Nice sized patio, with limited indoor seating. It does get busy and I would imagine the wait for food can be quite long. During weekdays parking lot is only for permit holders so be prepared to walk. The real draw is the view which is fabulous. Time should fly by as you enjoy the ocean breeze and watch the surfers.

We parked in the only parking lot that was close by with my elderly father to eat here and when we returned they had given us a parking ticket. We did not see anyplace else to park. The food was good but not worth it if they are not going to allow you to park next to the restaurant

My husband and I have been coming to Carolines for years to enjoy the food and the view. Unfortunately it seems like the customer service is on the decline. We have a 2 month old baby now and came to enjoy breakfast during an off peak time with maybe 50% of the outdoor seating occupied. My husband dropped me off with the baby and went to park. I sat down to feed the baby and look at the menu. Within seconds I was approached by a female employee and notified I was not allowed to sit down until I had placed an order. I tried to explain that I was going to be putting one in shortly and was shocked that she proceeded to have no understanding for the situation. I was asked to wait by the side of the building with my infant. When my husband arrived we ordered and sat down at the exact same table that remained unoccupied that entire time, among several other unoccupied tables. I understand that this rule may apply better on a busy weekend day or a peak time but it was so clearly unnecessary to maximize enforcement in this situation. I honestly dont think were interested in coming back again and am sorry to say I cant recommend it to others - especially to families.
