Overall it was a very good experience. They transported a car that I wanted to see from Colma. It arrived very quickly and the communication was great. The customer service reps were also great. There were some very long wait times in between processes such as appraisal of old car, waiting for paperwork to be completed. I had a cashier’s check so there wasn’t any financing involved. I was hoping that it would be shorter than if I had gone to a regular dealer. I spent over four hours at Carmax. I’m still happy with the purchase.

Ive only sold cars to this particular dealer, so cant speak as to the buying side. But Ive been quite impressed with the two transactions Ive done here. Make an appointment, bring your car in and theyll quote you a price in short order. And then give you a week to decide. And dont bother you during that period. MUCH smoother and less stressful than transactions with the average car dealer.

Horrible. Worst customer service ever. Bought a Volvo from them in Dec. I complained several times regarding a shudder in the front end when I applied the brakes. They said they checked it and it was fine just keep driving it. I kept driving it and the shudder got worse. Brought it in again and they said sorry youre outside your 90 day repair window. I took it to Volvo and they said the front rotors were bad.....$850 repair. Car Max refused to pay anything. They sold me a car with faulty brakes and then wouldnt stand behind their mechanics work. I will never buy here again. If I cant trust them to sell a car thats safe to drive theyre not getting my business.I would suggest you take your business somewhere else who you can trust.

If I can help it, I will never shop through a dealer ever again. CarMax took very good care of me. They made it very easy to trade in my Jeep for a more fuel efficient vehicle. CarMax made me feel welcome and when I had a problem they went to extremes to remedy it. There was an issue with scheduling picking up my new car but my sales person, Jessica took care of it and made sure I walked away happy. I highly recommend buying a car from CarMax and I will be back in the future.

I got a fair price (the online estimate was accurate and fair), was able to leave the car, finish buying my new car down the street and complete the Carmax transaction later when it was less crowded. An overall wonderful experience. I would use them again to sell a car.

The sales staff and people in finance have been wonderful. I have started a list of things that the car had issues with to review with service. We’ll see how things go with the service department. My biggest concern is the safety belt having a huge tear in it and looks dangerous. Also the traction control button does not function, and the intake manifold cover is missing.

Furthermore, changing a gasket really does not take that long so why not just fix it and take the car next door to Honda for the fuel pumpin order to sell this vehicle at $22k ?Honestly what is the motive here doesnt make sense to me to not sell a car.They also wanted to pre sell me additional insurance before I said yesthen wanted to know why I said no. Max was great. We bought my little sister her first car. It was brought from the Carmax in Modesto to the car max in Santa Rosa. Paid a fee for that. It test drove great. Second day of buying the car, she experiences the accelerator not working. Third day, check engine light goes on. I thought it had a 125 point inspection? At this point we don’t trust it. Returned the car. Luckily it was within the 90 day time frame. Who knows what would have happened if it had been past the 90 days. We would be financing a 21k car with problems. Also, they would not refund the fee to transfer the car in the first place due to policy 😑

I have no complaints with my experience in both selling 2 vehicles to and buying a truck from Carmax. I was treated well by a very competent and professional staff. I am not fond of either buying or selling cars but they made it easier than any experience I have had previously with a car dealership.

The best customer service I have experienced in a long time. Kudos to Emily for going above and beyond. Thought I’d left my wallet on the counter but it wasn’t there. She grabbed an umbrella and searched the parking lot for me. She even suggested to look between the seat and seatbelt area and sure enough, there it was. All three staff I interacted with were very nice and helpful.

Was very happy with purchasing experience. They were efficient and helpful. However, I had an issue after purchase and called twice, spoke to somebody who took a message and then called again and left a message when I didn’t hear back. That really concerns me and soured my experience. Luckily, I was able to resolve the issue on my own. They guarantee all repairs 90 days after purchase. I’m concerned that once you purchase a car from them, they are not responsive. It is unacceptable to me that they never returned my call.

5 stars for the wonderful service department at this location. Bobby and Chelsea are simply wonderful and their positive energy is a highlight every time you walk in the store. The mechanic David did an excellent job repairing my Corvette. Of course it can be disappointing to have an issue with a vehicle after purchase but they are used after all. The fact that they will take care of any issue for 90 days after purchase is unheard of. If I purchase another used vehicle in the future I will make sure it is with this specific carmax only thanks to the amazing service department.

The finding of the vehicle I wanted and the general process went quite well, its where we get to the purchase process that gets a little sticky. There were a few issues that occurred that I felt if not occurred would have made it a full 5 star experience for I strongly believe if one says they are going to do something they should, and if they end up not being able to comply with their statement, explain why. First issue, after test driving the vehicle and deciding to move forward with the purchase, the sales associate said Alright ill take it to the back and have my guys give it a wash and fuel it up for you and will be ready when we are done with paperwork. This did not happen for when they handed me the keys the car was bone dry with dirt and debris still on the vehicle, while on the test drive I had noted 3/4 tank of fuel, it was still at 3/4 when they gave me the keys. I was not going to make a scene about it as the cost would not be worth it, but it is the principle that counts. Would it have costed them that much to have done what he had said they were going to do and made me happy ? Second is I had asked for digital copy of the purchase agreement and all the documents provided which I had watched them scan in while we were doing the paperwork. The reason being that I needed to transmit the documents to my bank in a timely manner. I was assured by the initial sales associate I would get the email, I dealt with a second associate to finalize some of the paperwork. As I had not yet received the email containing the documents I asked that associate and he stated I should get it within the hour and if not (he handed me his business card) to email him and he will send it to me directly. I left with the vehicle and 2 hours later I had not yet received the email, I emailed the associate who gave me the business card. I never received a response and I have yet to receive a digital copy to this day. I am unsure if this was a stalling tactic to force me in to the horrible loan offered by Carmax or create a late penalty for me? Very disappointed! Lastly I had a friend come with me to inspect the vehicle he had noticed they had removed the bottom skid plate (for an inspection I assume), but when putting it back on they did not line everything up correctly and had one of the bolts cocked and not fully screwed in. This could have led to the bolt falling off the vehicle over time with vibrations and such. As the truck was a 2023 with just under 12k miles, things should not be about to fall off... I would be quite hesitant to purchase a vehicle again through car max and would give strong warning to those who would seek to purchase from them that some of them do not do what they say they are going to do, if they are willing to do that... What else ?

I wanted to sell my car in connection with buying a new one. I checked online for a reasonable price range for the sale. The offer I received from Carmax was the highest by quite a margin. I made an appointment and, within 15-20 minutes, Carmax had inspected the car, verified the offer, completed the paperwork for the sale, and provided me with a check for the purchase price. Every employee I met at Carmax was friendly and helpful. I was very pleased with the experience.

Do not buy anywhere else. The only downside was that I had to fly one way to Ontario to pick up the car, but WOW, I have to say the 30 days after buying the car have been absolutely phenomenal.The people on the phone, the sales reps, and the finance team are all nice. They are super helpful and make sure they get you the right answer, not just and answer.That being said, the service department in Santa Rosa is why I am leaving 5 stars. I bought the 5 year warranty but this has nothing to do with the warranty. They have been beyond pleasant to deal with, and are making a huge effort to ensure everything on my car is working. I probably would have been happy without this additional help, but any possible dissatisfaction was immediately removed with the treatment I have received in service.Bottom line, had I bought this car at any other dealership I would probably be out quite a bit, but Carmax has a 30 day return window, and ensures everything is perfect. My last 2 vehicles were new, but I don’t think I’m buying another new car again after this. I am only buying my used cars from here from now on, even if the car costs me more here than at another dealership.

No side deals with the sales manager, no need to negotiate vehicles are priced as they should be. I would recommend Carmax over any other car dealership, in addition their service department is completely willing to address any concerns you have about the vehicle post sale. I bought my car in the pouring rain and sadly couldnt visually inspect as I would have liked. Regardless, my issues are as follows: The oil was overfilled; the coolant level was low; there was a large rock-dent in the windshield; there were rusted rock chips out of exterior that were not visible on the online photo of the car. Of note, I emailed my sales rep immediately and was never responded to. When I called I was told that none of that is mechanical and therefore not under their 90 day warranty. I would expect fluid levels to be to manufacturer specifications, online pictures to reflect actual cosmetic condition, and a chip in the windshield to be considered safety vs cosmetic. Also, a response from my sales representative after the sell was in order.

Buying the car was great, we had a great experience there. The problem is we have had the car for less than a year and barely put 4,000 miles on it (no big trips) and we have to get the whole engine rebuilt! We went to carmax to ask if they could help out and they said it’s out of the 90 day period so it’s all on us. This is going to cost us THOUSANDS of dollars. The whole reason we bought from the dealer is because they check the cars. We shouldn’t have to rebuild the whole engine this quickly! Would not recommend and won’t be buying from them again.

We purchased a used Subaru Forester a few months ago form this location. The sales staff was extremely helpful and made the process very easy. Upon driving it for a few days we started noticing a burnt oil smell and smoke would come from the engine compartment when we stopped. We took it to a local Subaru specialist and they determined that the cam shaft seal was leaking and it was going to be a big job to fix it. We called Carmax about the repair and once again they were very easy deal with. The mechanic was not in their list of service providers, but they approve the repair anyway. After the repairs were complete, the mechanic called the Carmax rep and was paid immediately on the phone with a credit card. The mechanic is also now a member of their service providers for future business. This was a win win for everyone! Thank you so much for taking an unfortunate situation and turning it into a great experience!

Great selection of cars at this location. Other Carmax locations will either ship for free or for a fee if you find a car in another state. Not obligated to buy either. Had a great experience and the associate worked with me even though my credit was not the greatest. Paperwork was a lot as expected. Recommend MaxCar warranty which can be added to the no haggle price. Carmax cars go through a 120 point inspection before they sell them so you can be sure they will take care of you if needed. My sister already bought a car 2 weeks after I did. Would recommend to start out browsing online, getting in touch with an associate, test driving, and then driving home in your previously owned vehicle. Comes with 7 day no questions asked return policy and 90 day warranty. Great experience, just dont look at inventory after purchase like I did and see a better deal. Utilize the 7 day policy by driving car as much as you can and inspect it inside and out. Great service and would highly recommend the overall experience. Associate still checks in with me 3 times after purchase. A+++++

I have mixed reviews. While they did honor their online offer which was accurate on my end, it did take around 2 hours to make this happen. They kept on giving me estimates of a few minutes for each step of the process which ended up being very inaccurate. I recommending allowing for 2-2.5 hours to sell your car through them with the online offer already completed.

Selling my car was very easy and I feel like got a fair price. Buying the new car was also pretty easy. They required a lot of paperwork. I did the whole process online as I don’t have a car to get down there. They advertised that they would deliver the car to me. I bought the car, and now they are telling me I am 1 mile over their limit. I have no way of getting down there to get the car so that is where it stands.

CarMax is still better than any car dealership I dealt with.I wasnt happy having to deal with so many different people during the course of my purchase, though they were all very nice. Over-all very good buying experience. This is the 3rd vehicle Ive bought from CarMax. Effortless process for financing. Transfer was quick and hassle-free. Only issue was third-party vendor website wouldnt process my down payment so at the last minute I wasnt able to have the vehicle delivered. The sales department did provide Lyft transportation to the dealership to pick up the car. The sales rep was well prepared and the transaction was very fast, in and out in about 10 minutes! Im very happy with the car.

Careful, you will buy a car from them and then less than a year later, paint starts peeling and flying off. You call because you purchased an extended warranty,so youre thinking you will get that patched up and no worries!!! Nope, very much the opposite. You get transferred 5 times and nobody knows how to help. Then some guy gets on and says hold one minute to speak with service. After 10 minutes later, gets on to tell you. We cant help you it is cosmetic and your issue. Again, less than a year ago I purchased this car. The paint is only bubbling and peeling on one side, this seems more like a defective/defect than a cosmetic issue. So now with experience, I wont purchase again from them. So, does anyone out there know a fantastic auto paint shop, that can help a gal out since the dealer cant!!!! Now, I have to pocket the cost, so now Im even Wondering why I purchased this extended warranty????? 🤔

Paid to have car shipped to Santa Rosa, when we went to see it, the interior was horrible. Residue from 2 sided tape still on console and smelled of smoke. Asked for refund as these were not disclosed prior to shipping it. Was told no because we didnt specifically inquire about these things prior to shipping. Also photos of burn marks in console looked like stich marks, unaware that they were actual burn marks. No better response from corporate customer care. Even though I bought a different car, am actively looking for something else from another dealer in order to return it,, as customer service is so bad. Dont trust dealership or warranty sold to us after the total lack of care I have received. Will let others know to also be very wary of buying from Carmax.

I sold my car to CarMax over 2 years ago. They did not register it nor did the submit a transfer of liability (which I think is illegal). Since then I have gotten 3 tickets and a notice to appear because whoever bought the car keeps getting traffic tickets. I have been to Carmax on 6 different occasions and each time they say they will take care of it and yet I keep getting notices. Now I have one of these tickets referred to a collection agency because of the incompetence of this carmax. NEVER EVER will I deal with them again.

I relocated from NYC to CA and have been stalking a light blue Mini Cooper with low miles which appeared in my search a week before I arrived. It needed to be shipped from SoCal so the timing was perfect.From the ease of pre-qualifying to the customer support and the final sale, each interaction was handled professionally and personably. I sold a car to this Car Max branch on Friday 9/22. Their check has not cleared my bank account as of today. My bank says it wont clear for another 10 days. When I called Car Max the first time, they transferred me to a phone that rang for 10 minutes and then disconnected me. I called a second time and after a 20 minute hold, I was told that their accounting department had a system upgrade and all payments were being delayed. At this point I am going to ask for the car back until they are able to pay me for it. 3 weeks for a check to clear is no way to do business.

For brief time there you could call me one of Carmax’s biggest fans. This review is regarding my second transaction with them over a series of months. I drive for Lyft and a few dozen of my customers have asked me how my experience was. Up until now I was happy to report to them that it was superb. The sales representative was awesome and the whole transaction went as easily as it could! All I can say is that my praise has done a 180. And I feel bad for those people I recommended go to Carmax.My opinion changed drastically about a week ago when I took the vehicle into a local mechanic to have the oil changed for the first time, having put about 5k miles on it since purchase. It was one of those drive-in oil change spots, so I was still in the vehicle when the hood was popped for the first time since purchase. Seconds later, the first words out of this mechanic’s mouth were, “Hey! Uh, did you know your oil cap is missing?”I was shocked, and quickly exited my vehicle to have a look and document the problem for the obvious legal reasons. The attached photos are what saw, my engine covered in oil and absolutely no oil cap where there should always be one. Fortunately this mechanic at this 3rd party shop is the supervisor and gave me his contact information in case I ever need him to testify.We’re talking potential for thousands of dollars of damages to an engine that only had about 14,000 miles on it at purchase. It wasn’t cheap.Meanwhile, I was sent into a panic. This car is my business vehicle and I depend on it to live. Additionally I PURCHASED it to be used for a long time. Disposable income is not something I’m drowning in, so the potential financial repercussions of Carmax’s mistake are not something I’m able to incur. It would put me out of work if this engine fails prematurely.Immediately after my visit to the oil stop, I drove to Carmax Santa Rosa to address the issue with management. The response was lackluster from the Sales Manager. It was nice of them to offer to power wash my engine and check it for damage. But at this point I’m struck by two factors. This is now coming out of my extremely valuable time which I am not being compensated for in any way, and I’m not sure I trust them anymore to disclose the issues that may not become apparent to me for 10s of thousands of miles from now. I mean, if their mechanic forgot the oil cap, what else did they miss? Replacing the oil cap should be the easiest and most obvious thing to do after completing an oil change, really revealing the incompetence of this particular mechanic. It was unclear how detailed their inspection would be, it would seem to me the engine needs to be disassembled entirely and checked for premature wear. I’m doubting they’ll be that thorough or fair based on my experience thus-far.I am in the process of corresponding with the bank who provided me a loan for about 25% of the value of the vehicle so that we can pursue compensation together as this affects them as much as it does me.Last year I bought and sold six cars mostly from private sellers, and had never having an issue this severe. I will update this review as time goes on to reflect anything Carmax does with regards to this particular issue. It is my hope they are honest and fair, providing myself and the bank with the compensation we deserve for their mistake. Even if there turns out to be no engine damage, I’ve still spent hours on this issue where I could have been working I won’t get back that time or lost income.Mistakes do happen and if they fix this completely I promise to change my review, I’m not out for blood, merely looking for ethical business practices.

It was crazyI took it to the dealership straight after CarMax, then after the lower offer I showed them the printout of the offer the manager and evaluator both gasped, slack jawed and told me to take the offer.I called in yesterday. Avoid at all costs!This is the worst car transaction I have experienced. They did a bait and switch on what they offered. They cut the offer $500 at the last moment for a 3 month old vehicle, fresh from a detail, without issues. A year later I start getting bombarded with requests to sign DMV forms and give them power of attorney to sign my name. 6months later, I have filled and returned the forms more than 1 and still am receiving requests from them for signed forms. I am now sitting in their lobby waiting for a manager 1.5 years after I sold my vehicle to them. So much lost time and incompetence, run away, choose anywhere else!

When I told him I needed to buy a car that day, he didnt attempt to find ANY workaround, such as go home well call when we can accomodate you, or even ask me for any personal information. (So nice compared to traditional Car Salespersons who usually come off smarmy and keep you for hours while trying to up the sales price!) Other CarMax staff were also knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. In general, CarMax made the entire process so easy; they handled all the paperwork; no going to the DMV! And, CarMax posts all the information you would want when purchasing a new(er) car including prior accidents and any recalls. They also go over that information when you sign the final documents. The fact that CarMax goes through their vehicles thoroughly not only to give them a good cleaning, but to check for any issues. Will go to CarMax if I ever need another car. I visited the dealership to appraise my 2024 Porsche Cayenne, a vehicle with only 2000 miles on it, hoping to get a fair valuation for it. Unfortunately, the entire process left much to be desired.Upon my arrival at Carmax, I was greeted by Enrique, who proceeded to collect my personal information and then asked me to wait in the customer lounge. I assumed this was the standard procedure for the initial steps of an appraisal, so I patiently waited.However, the wait stretched on for an agonizing 45 minutes before I decided to approach Enrique at his desk. To my surprise and disappointment, he hadnt even started the appraisal process and couldnt provide me with an appraisal value for my vehicle at that time. I requested that he send me the appraisal value via email as soon as it became available, to which he agreed.Feeling somewhat frustrated but still hopeful, I left the dealership and waited for the email to arrive. But 5 hours later, with no communication from Carmax, I decided to call the dealership to inquire about the status of my appraisal. My patience was further tested as I spent 10 minutes on the phone, including a frustrating period on hold.When I finally got through to an agent, they informed me that my Porsche Cayenne had been appraised at $77,000, significantly less than the $100,000 MSRP of the vehicle. This substantial drop in value was shocking, especially considering that the market had seen a significant decrease over just one month.I raised concerns about the accuracy of the appraisal, and I requested that someone double-check its accuracy. This is when it became apparent that Carmax had failed to meet my expectations on multiple fronts, including timeliness, professionalism, and the accuracy of their appraisals.In conclusion, my experience at Carmax this morning was disheartening and left me feeling undervalued and misled. I expected a more efficient and professional service, particularly given Carmaxs reputation in the industry. I left the dealership with a sour taste in my mouth and the realization that I may need to seek other options for the appraisal and potential sale of my vehicle.

Additionally, I asked for the carmax bumper sticker be removed from the paint and it left a permanent discoloration in the paint. The appraisal of my car was done in timely manner. Even though it was a really busy day, all employees kept checking in on me & kept me informed of what they were doing at all times. First time in, called in the morning and spoke with Joseph and he was great. I was slightly worried when I was helped by a different employee for my appointment but he was also really helpful and knowledgeable. Looked at the new car while they appraised my trade in. All went really well (I know, thats what a car sales man wants) but I didnt feel pressured AT ALL so it was much better than the Nissan dealership. I havent got my new car yet but all looks good and on the up and up. Will update this when I complete my purchase.Edit: Still loving my service from Carmax. When I first went in I liked the car on the lot but wanted the same model in a different color, it was at the Santa Rosa lot within 2 days and I was amazed. The car was perfect and I drove it home that night. Where is the negative star option?After selling my car Sept 13th I was informed I would get a check in the mail in a week. After ten business days I call and am told my check is actually at the store I sold my car. After going to the store and despising the check that day, I received a ping from my Chase bank that the check they gave me was returned and my account was now at a negative with charges for over draft and under review for a false check or a rather large quantity.I returned to the store I sold my car and was given a new check with the voice that I would be paid for any over draft fees when I got proof. This second check was then returned after it was deposited. The store finance manager John refused to talk to me on the phone or In person when I drove to the store personally to stop being passed around via phone where he then didn’t even greet me to apologize.I was informed that the check had cleared but when my bank called their, Wells Fargo, they said they won’t release the funds till Oct 12. The day before my 30 day return to be exact where if I wanted to return the car I bought after selling my car to them. Seems suspicious? So now my account is still over drawn and getting charged fees with another week to wait for the funds. This is unacceptable and I have been displaced financially and completely inconvenienced having to drive back and fourth to their location. It’s the 6th now, let’s see if I even get this money. I have had the worst experience and know now that used car dealerships are playing with peoples money while they handle their short comings in todays economy. Don’t sell your car to them, let alone do business. Carmax will be dealing with this. An entire month without paying for my car sale, negative amounts in my account and so much distress.

She put in so much time to understand exactly what I was looking for, and kept me posted every step of the way via text message which was so much nicer than receiving a bunch of pesky phone calls. Purchasing and test drive with salesman was excellent compared to other car yards. Didnt feel like high pressure sales. Upon trade in and pick up of vehicle the business office was unreasonable. We have an actively breast fed child, mother was feeding in car to be traded. They rudely said we will not start paperwork until car was parked in the bay. Super rude lady in business office, I was super displeased with her attitude and the amount of wait time when they began paperwork could have been eliminated if they had started and allowed my wife the right to breastfeed stress free. When process started it took 30 minutes before we could even begin signing etc anyway. Shame one person could spoil the experience and create unnessesary stress and delay on a small family.

But it got stolen from right outside the house I’m staying at on June 9th.It was taken by a tow truck & dropped after hours at a locksmith’s with a request that two keys be made because “they were missing.” (They weren’t of course, I had them.)Thanks to work they didn’t have to do, a fellow named Mike at that locksmith’s and a CarMax agent named Amy are responsible for me getting my car back.I left for a trip before the car was located, and I don’t return until June 26th. When Amy called me to let me know my car was found, I told her I couldn’t retrieve it for several more days, and she offered to have someone who works with CarMax pick up my car and bring it back to their lot for safekeeping until I return.Having my car taken was devastating for reasons beyond inconvenience or expense. I searched online at CarMax for a Suburu Forester with low mileage, and in Crimson Red Pearl. After a 2 day search, I found the Suburu in Henderson, NV, reserved the vehicle, and paid to have it shipped to its destination. The Subaru arrived at CarMax in one week.The purchase of the Subaru took 2 days and 3 trips to CarMax. Everything was going just fine for the sales transaction with the staff person, who had only been working at CarMax for 2 months, and he was still learning the ropes.The policy of CarMax is to verify the availability of funds when the vehicle is not being finanaced. I presented a Home Equity Line of Credit Check.The staff person talked to someone and returned, saying that CarMax would not accept a line of credit. After explaining how the line of credit works, the check was Ok to use. It was Sunday, and after talking to 4 people at the bank facility, none of them would verify funds availability because it did not pertain to their dept.I left CarMax, to come back on Monday. On Monday, the funds availability was given, and transaction completed.While the sales transaction did not go as planned, it was caused by bad timing on a Sunday.

Everything was great. The selection was awesome, they transferred a car for me for free which I didnt end up buying. Down payment and credit approval was handled over the phone. Salesperson was wonderful. Test drive was relaxed and as long as I needed. The 4 instead of 5 stars is because we had to wait an hour for someone from the finance department to free up, to review and sign paperwork. I spent most of the 4 hours I was there test driving two cars, no haggling, no pressure. I will tell all my family and friends this is the way to buy a car.

The good:The concept is amazing and the stores spotless. No sleazy salespeople and everyone was extremely kind and helpful.Now for the bad...I was a walk-in and was told it would be about 45 min. I ended up waiting over 1 hour and 45 minutes to be called to have someone look at my car and give me a quote! Some then looked at my car and inspected it. But after waiting another 45 minutes with Dominic, I still had no quote. I told him I was done waiting and asked for him to email it to me.Another day went by and I called the store to speak with Dominic and left two messages. I finally got the quote emailed to me 1 day later, but never heard back from Dominic. The quote was good until May 31st (Memorial Day) and tried to get through to the Santa Rosa store to explain I couldnt make it because of the holiday weekend and family commitments. When I did get through, it was to the call center who explained to me they couldnt patch me through to the store or the person who gave me the quote.I came back with the written quote on the next day, June 1st and they told me my quote wasnt valid as I was one day beyond the valid date! I had to get another quote and expressed my frustration over the whole process, but I was in too deep to walk away! I waited another 1 hour and 20 minutes for the second quote! It finally came through for the same amount and from there the process was smooth.I must have spent over 6 hours between visits, phone calls and hold times. You need to improve this part of your process to compete with dealers who buy used cars.Your price was good, but it was a long, tedious and exhausting process. In the end, I should have taken another offer that $500 less, but without the hassle. I cant say I would recommend your service to others.

Id actually give the experience a 3.5 Choosing the car was super simple and putting it on hold actually worked. When we got to the dealership the car was there - which kind of surprised me. I fully expected it to have been sold out from under me given the current used car market and the fact that it is a desireable vehicle. The car wouldnt start for the test drive. And I had to haggle a bit to get them to put in a new battery. It was the original 4 year old battery. They did not have a battery on site, so I had to go across town and buy a battery and bring it back for installation. That took some time. Then was told that they could not reimburse me on the spot bc the cost was over their $150 limit of on site reimbursement. It took about a week to get the reimbursement in the mail. I was again surprised. I totally thought that I was going to have to fight for that. I planned to cash for the car and had been told by phone customer service that we could do an EFT. Turns out... EFTs take 2 or 3 business days to clear.. .and this was Fri after Thanksgiving - and the CarMax lot is about 1 1/2 hours from home. So - not a great option. I ended up going across town once again to my bank to get a cashiers check. Fortunately there was a branch of my bank in town. We arrived at the CarMax lot at 10am and headed home at 5pm. Grabbed fast food lunch during the battery run. For the detailing on the car, they really just did a quick once over. There was debris and lots of built up crud in the usual places. The seats were probably vacuumed but the fabric not cleaned. Windows not clean. The floor mats had been replaced with super cheap mats. Nothing that couldnt be remedied with a few hours and a few bucks... but .. you know.. kind of an inconvenience to get everything nice. I think if I had been mentally prepared to spend the entire day on the transaction - it would have been less frustrating. Plus - I would have packed food and bevs!

Not what I fully expected. Carmax gave me low amount for my trade in and would not negotiate. The car was not in best condition, tires and needs an alignment. They didn’t even wash the car prior to me leaving, which is basic stuff. It seemed as if if tries so hard to be unlike other dealerships but missed mark in customer service. Waited forever to sign forms for no reason. Folks were friendly but I just felt like they really didn’t have a good system. I rather had been tried to be tricked but taken care of properly at a regular dealership.I do love the vehicle I purchased however I need to take to service. I had a good experience the day I purchased my car. However everything leading up to it was inadequate. I requested my car be moved from a farther location closer to the carmax nearby. I received a note saying someone would be in contact with me before it shipped. I did not hear from anyone before it shipped or when it arrived. A few days later I saw it back on the market for anyone to buy. I called and made an appointment for the test drive and expressed my frustration. The appt was made for the wrong day. I even called in to move the time at one point and advised them I still saw it on the website as open to anyone to purchase. It did not look like it was held. They assured me it was held for me. They even contacted the local office and confirmed it was held. I showed up for the test drive and I was told I missed my appt and it was on the market for anyone to purchase. After the test drive I asked for 24 hrs to confirm if I wanted to make the purchase. I did not find this unreasonable considering my experience so far. The next day, I called the local branch for a question on the vehicle and was connected to someone offsite. They tried to tell me the vehicle was at its original location (before I had it transferred). I advised it had already been moved. They said it must be in transit to my location, but had not arrived yet. I had to correct them and advise I had just taken the vehicle for a test drive the night before. While I understand this was not the individual I was speaking with there is a disconnect between programs. Overall, the people were nice enough, but my experience as a whole was not satisfactory.

I think the max care is the one I am disappointed. Since the car has 90 days warranty, after I payed 4 years extension, the 90 max care expiration still be exactly 4 years later. Before making a purchase wander over to their in house repair shop and observe how many people have had to bring back their cars for warranty repairs. Its not normal. These are the things that should have been handled before the cars were ever sold. My salesman kept saying my car had so many features it would be a shame if there was an electrical probkem. Came to buy newer car. Got the Subaru Outback 3.6 Limited. Paul was my salesman. It was a relatively painless process purchasing the vehicle, but after I took it home I noticed that the interior prep wasnt completed. Came in later and they worked on it for @45 minutes. It seemed better, and Ken in Service was very helpful getting the work done. Overall, I was impressed with CarMax and the relative ease in purchasing, but unfortunately, I found additional areas in the vehicle that still need cleaning. I think Ill take care of it myself.Lesson learned. CarMax is great, however, make sure EVERYTHING gets done before you drive it home.

Sales process was very smooth. My complaint is about the vehicle itself, it was unacceptably dirty. The outside has some soap residue that is hard to get off, also there were adhesive clear plastic strips that are hell to get off and leave this glue type substance that I will need professionally cleaned. The car came without a spare tire. The car came without a manual. Navigation system has glitches and does not work properly. Trying to address these issues is impossible when trying to call I cannot get help in a timely manner.

From the day we choose the car (which was not in our city) until the date we got it took 3 days.We had 30 min for the test drive, and we stayed almost 4 hours inside the store. But we already could bring home the car.Everything was well explained and all associates were very polite.

Our car to sell was in good shape but, 13 year old. We were not expecting so much and we were amazed about the easy process and the money we got. People were very friendly. Consider 3 - 4 hours to get all done, in particular on the WE. If you would like to buy a used car there are many on the parking lot.

Everyone was friendly and helpful. The valuation of my car was fair, as was the offer. At the end I walked out with a check and a feeling that buying a car from Carmax was a great experience, but selling the car back to Carmax was even better. I felt valued and respected by the process.

This is my second car purchase from CarMax. The first was awesome. The second was pretty terrible. The car was on the lot for test drive and purchase with zero (0) coolant in the car. This, after they told us the car was inspected. So, that was either a scripted statement or a total lie. That left my wife on the side of the freeway AFTER I put coolant in the car (because the car was still saying it was overheating.) When we called we got a general number NOT in Santa Rosa. The first transfer a woman answered who did not understand us and hung up on us. Now on hold again for the last 15 minutes. I am guessing I will have to take off time to drive there to get some customer service. Pretty terrible.

Sold my car there, and I highly recommend it. The employees were really friendly and the process was quick and easy. In about an hour everything was taken care of, including DMV paperwork and such.Most importantly, there is none of the pushiness you get at car dealerships. The quote you get is good for 7 days, they just showed me where to go to take them up on it and said, take your time.

As a first time car buyer, I had a great experience at CarMax Santa Rosa, specifically with Jeff! It was nice to feel taken care of and catered to but not pressured. Covid precautions were very stringent and thorough, which was a relief. Even though I didnt purchase from CarMax I definitely recommend stopping by their Santa Rosa location for great customer service.

However, 2 days after the purchase, I tried contacting them for assistance and I never got a call back. I tried the main line, left multiple messages, text messages and still no response. We purchased a vehicle from them last July and like many also purchased the extended service plan. The check engine light came on and the car started shaking uncontrollably. Took it to a station and it looks like the car had been already serviced for the issue it was having and we werent told. And now theyre refusing to pay for the whole cost of it being repaired
