We were apprehensive about our hounds being neutered due to their sensitivity to anesthesia. However, this knowledgeable staff was excellent in caring for our dogs, and they provided excellent service. Our dogs are healing nicely and we are very grateful to them. Clean and beautiful facility, as well.

What a relief it was to take our, new-to-us, older rescue dog to Canal Veterinary in Turlock. It was a step back into that small town office where kind staff and doctors show care and concern for your pet. Access to an appointment was easy and prompt, Dr. Larsson and the staff took great care of both our needy boy and us, taking the time to clearly explain his condition and necessary care; and, the prices were reasonable. We could not be happier with our choice in veterinary clinics.

I love everything about this vet clinic. Dr.Larson and all the staff are very kind and considerate. It is obvious they love their patients.and what they do. The girls at the front go out of their way to accommodate the best they can. Julie has been there for a while and goes above and beyond to handle my sometimes “spur of the moment” requests. Sometimes services can be a little on the pricey side depending on what your furry friend is being seen for. However, considering most of us see our pets as “part of the family” or “our children” I feel the prices are pretty reasonable and below other clinics. I also believe that if there was a real issue or emergency with your loved one and you were having a hard time making ends meet, they would go out of their way to work something out. The technicians are super friendly and one young man (I am not sure of his name or else I would mention it) is so good with my dog Bo he seems to actually smile as he soaks up the friendly scratches while being attended to. I would give this place five stars but hey “nobody can be perfect” all the time. Thank you for the great customer service! We appreciate you.

Dr. Heather Deleon is The Absolute BestDr. Deleon is extremely knowledgeable, kind, caring and professional.She has changed the quality-of-life for our dog to much better and gave us a more positive outlook for his life and its quality.She is very enthusiastic about caring for pets and thoroughly checks on their health and welfare.We have been to 3 vets that missed a critical life-threatening issue of our dog until we went to her.She knew, quickly, what the problem was.She, then, laid out a comprehensive plan for our dog, incluging a care plan and the appropiate medications.This may sound like what a good vet should do but it took us awhile to get to her and her superior, above-board quality of care.I just wish I could give her more stars. Canal Vet is seriously the best veterinarian I’ve ever come across and I will continue to take my dog here for the rest of his life. Everyone is so friendly and understanding, the receptionists, vet techs, and doctors are all really kind and well spoken. Nickel is super timid but they were able to care for him properly despite that. I finally found a vet that is worth the travel distance. I hardly write reviews but Canal Vet deserves the praise. I brought Jade in on Tuesday after she began to not look well over the past weekend. She was hospitalized that day and has been under the best possible care for her medical issues. I am very comfortable with and trust everyone at Canal Vet to provide the best care they can for her, as she has been a patient there since the early 2010s, and I wouldn’t take her anywhere else.

Dr. Heather is AWESOME! She has been taking care such good care of our little girl, Harley, for almost a year now. She responds to my phone messages and e-mails in a timely manner. She always takes the time to explain everything to make sure I fully understand. She is patient and very compassionate. I can tell she really cares about Harley and all of the babies she takes care of.

They treated my sweet tigger so well, this was my first experience with this vet clinic and first time neutering. They called me twice giving me updates on him, they eased my nerves about him going under. Very clean and decorated on the inside and very friendly front desk staff. They also get back to you very fast if you message or call them. Thank you guys!

My elderly dog with existing health issues was not doing good, when my husband and I got home he wouldnt move. I thought I was going to lose him that day so I called Canal Vet to get Dr. Heathers advice on what to do, and even though the office was closing in 30 minutes and Im 40 minutes away, she said to bring him down anyway. She and her staff stayed a good 30 minutes after hours examining my dog. If it wasnt for them, I dont know if my dog would have been okay. He is still at home, happy as could be. I will be forever grateful and feel very lucky to have a vet that cares about my pets as much as I do!

I currently work remotely and so I’m home with my cat all day (that might be a bad thing, hah) anyway, he’s gone into canal vet a couple of times now, twice for cystitis (the second time he was fine, I kinda over worry about him now) and the second for bites all of his little nose, they were able to get me in both times and I really appreciate it. They are so kind and informative and I really love the health reports they send home. I drive from Modesto to Turlock for his care but it’s worth it. Dr. Heather is really sweet and helpful. Ive gone through tons of vets because I’m rlly picky! If you’re looking for a new vet, I’d def give canal vet a try!!! Thank you guys!❤️

Took our Sadie Pekingese/Chihuahua in for excessive vomiting, blood work indicated pancreatitis, Dr.Larson was quick with the correct diagnosis and treatment. Very greatful for having such a great vet here in town. She is back to normal now. What I learned through this experience is to not give dogs what we thought were harmless table scraps! Thank you 😊

I truly appreciated the doctor coming out to speak to me about our new little addition puppy. I purchased a adorable female pomerania. They care very much about the pets they see everyday. We previously went to a larger animal hospital in town for our pup. They were incredibly difficult to schedule with and you weren’t allowed to go in with your pet for treatment. Our pup had an emergency and the bigger hospital had a large fee to be seen. I called canal and they fit us in between patients and took care of our pup. Now he has grown and is a healthy adult dog thanks to Canal. The receptionists are really friendly and helpful(wasn’t the case at our other animal hospital), the vet techs are very helpful/knowledgeable and the doctor dedicates time to speaking with you to explain everything and you can tell she really cares. She also doesn’t overcharge you for unnecessary things. Canal does everything right and we are really happy with their services.

This was my first visit to Canal Vet. I have two large rescues and have been searching for a place we’re I felt comfortable they were getting the best care. When Dr Heather walked in the room, sat down on the floor and spent 45 mins talking to me and examining them each I knew we were home. She wanted to know their histories and issues. She did a thorough head to tail on them. I had not found that type of care since moving back to the valley over a year ago. I’m very pleased to have a place with personalized care. It’s also convenient to be able to email with questions or issues. Thank you Dr Heather!

I took my boxer puppies in for a litter exam. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They helped me get my crate out with the little wiggle butts. They answered all the questions I had. I will definitely be back for any of my pet’s future visits.

I have a 92 lb. Great Dane puppy. When Dr. Heather walked in, she greeted us, then got down on the floor with my boy. She was patient and gave him time to feel comfortable. I changed veterinarians because my other one seemed more like a big box store. It had lost it’s small town charm. Well I definitely found my new home! They allow you to be in the room with the vet and your pet! I am a big fan!

Amazing Dr. & staff! Never have I been so impressed with a veterinarian. I like that everything was explained and how to give treatment was actually shown to me! Staff at the front desk was professional and personable which is great as this is someone’s first impression. Cozy, cute waiting area and also the appointment was timely. Weve been clients of Canal Vet (Drs. Baker & Larsson; now Dr Heather, a partner) since moving to Turlock in 1989 -- 33 years ago. They have been wonderful for the health and care of our dogs, cats and rabbits! Covid rules permitting, they allow/want you in the exam room with your loved one; AND THE DOCTORS PERSONALLY give you an overview of your pets health. Other clinics in the area dont offer that service -- You wait outside, sometimes may not see the doctor if its a general visit. Seeing the doctor means a lot to us, since our furry loved ones only speak in their native tongue (woof, meow). The doctors want our input to help treat best. They also know high quality specialists, if your pet needs that care. Dr Baker has since retired. Dr. Larsson is THE BEST and very gentle with your pets. Dr. Heather is a wonderful newest partner to the practice. You will enjoy her warm demeanor and appreciate her genuine concern for your pets wellbeing. All the doctors here balance treatment plans against cost concerns. Nothing in life is free, so they will be honest with you about MOST LIKELY outcomes for serious, life threatening and potentially expensive events. One thing they do not offer is emergency after hours services. THATS PERFECTLY FINE WITH US (our own docs arent open 24/7/365), so have a back up plan in mind if your pet needs critical services at midnight. I believe any family choosing Canal Vet will be more than pleased with their services, demeanor and dedication to offering your pets a healthy life.December 2021 update - our beloved white Pomeranian Molly passed away. We would like to thank everyone at Canal Vet for the great care she received throughout the years. Molly had some very bad ailments, congestive heart failure being the biggest one. I am fully convinced that the caring people at Canal Vet devised a treatment and medication plan that helped extend her life two more years! We also asked Canal Vet to handle her cremation services. So after I dropped Molly off for her last visit (sigh), the Canal Vet staff made charcoal stamps of her paws and gave them to us as a remembrance. The Canal Vet group has so much compassion and empathy for your pets that you can feel at ease, knowing they are doing their very best to care for these loved ones.

This was my and Lunas first time at Canal Vet. It was a good experience. Dr. Larson is thorough and he explains things clearly. He was good with my large, anxious dog, and he has a good personality, overall. I can say the same for the excellent vet techs at Canal Vet. Also, the front office employees are competant and pleasant people. The bill was quite reasonable (relative to my usual vet hospital, and other local vet hospitals).

This was my first visit with canal vet and dr Lawson was so kind. He went over everything in detail and took his time with my dog who has a significant injury requiring surgery. He was very gentle with my dog and explained everything to my understanding. I’m definitely switching to canal vet for all my animals. His girls that work up front and his assistant are so sweet and kind. Reminds me of how vets use to be, I missed that and searched for this again. You won’t be disappointed if you go here. Our cat had gotten into a fight. The one side of his head was swollen. Our regular vet did not have availability however, Canal Veterinary was able to squeeze our cat in. We are very thankful that they were able to do this. They were very caring and let us know each step of the way what was taking place. Everyone was so wonderful and made me feel very safe leaving my pet there for the day. All of the staff were extremely kind and listened to my concerns with my pet and offered advice before I even took her in. The vet even called me to let me know the treatment plan and future steps. I feel like I asked so many questions but they always gave me detailed answers which I appreciated. They never tried to “sell” me something more expensive and never made me worry about my pets condition. They have very reasonably priced care. I will definitely be bringing Kuma back for more visits. I appreciate the staff caring for my pet as much as I would considering the many many pets they may see every day.

Our dog, Cleo had injured her left eye over the weekend, not getting better by Monday, I called Canel Veterinarian office, they had me bring her in that morning and would check her out, having to leave Cleo there, in a matter of a couple of hours, they diagnosed and treaded her. We’ve been bringing our cat here since he was a baby and everyone in this office is seriously amazing! They are so good with our Ollivander and always take such good care of him!! His doctor is amazing she’s communicative, incredibly caring and gentle. Its also a super clean facility and has the best energy. I help my mom take her dog to the vet. This staff is the best! Theyre excellent with the fur babies. They listen to concerns and answer questions. If they dont know something, theyll look for answers. The other thing I like about this office is that they dont over charge for services or find reasons for you to make extra visits.

We recently moved to the Turlock area so this was our first visit to Canal Veterinary Hospital. The staff was very welcoming. When Dr. Heather came in and sat down on the floor with my older dog I was so impressed. He was timid at first but warmed up to her in a few minutes. She was wonderful with him and to us. Very happy with the entire experience. The staff is super friendly and helpful the lobby is super clean and(DOES NOT) smell like a dog kennel. The smell is one of the biggest differences between this veterinary hospital and other veterinary hospitals. when you can tell how your dog reacts to a clean environment versus a not well sanitized environment as soon as your pet walks in. It was amazing to see my dog not try to rip my arm off to get out of the building as soon as possible. Our vet was super friendly and very very animal friendly. The vets demeanor with animals was amazing. my dog never volunteers to sit still or approaches strangers in the way she approached this new vet. I would definitely recommend bringing your pet here. They also have a huge variety of healthy animal treats and foods. And everything seemed pretty reasonably priced.

Several friends recommended Canal Veterinary Hospital so I brought my dog and cat in for their exams. The staff is friendly and our experience with Dr. Heather was extremely positive. She was very thorough and made recommendations for both of my animals that will improve their quality of life. It is a great feeling knowing that my animals have a vet home now. It is obvious that they care about the animals first. And, they dont try to sell overpriced products. In fact, Dr. Heather suggested ways that I can save money on flea control, worm control, and joint care products. Five stars!

Ive been taking my dogs here since 1999 when my Zena was three months old. Several years later I got Foxy & then Maui & they go here too. Both Dr. Baker & Dr. Larsson are kind, compassionate & caring. The staff is great too. I also like that Its a small personal office.Zena developed diabetes & later when she began having seizures Dr. Baker gave me his personal cell number so I could call him.Dr. Larsson & Holly were with me when Zena was 13 & had to cross the rainbow bridge😢. Such compassion they both showed & Dr. Larsson held my hands & prayed.I could say much more but better close now.I only wish a letter had been sent out announcing Dr. Bakers retirement because I didnt know until now.

Very Grateful for my experience here. My first time bringing my little chihuahua Chloe here, the staff was so kind and helpful! They have a great selection of animal items, treats and food! Nicholas was our vet tech and he did a Great job! Also had a smooth experience talking with veterinarian Darren about Chloes teeth issues, he offered solutions and recommendations which gave me alot of relief! Ive tried various vets based on the needs of my dogs. Canal Veterinary far exceeds the level of professionalism and care we would all want for our furry family members. My dog Kabba was suffering from pain and very lethargic. The staff was helpful and very attentive. They made sure I felt comfortable with every aspect of my dogs intake process and explained what steps would be taken to try to remedy his medical issue. Overall I was highly impressed with their level of professionalism and knowledge. I would recommend this vet to anyone in need of medical emergencies or routine care of their animal. I found a lost dog and took him here to see if he had a microchip. Well thank goodness he did and the ladies at the front desk were able to get in contact with the owner, so he could as reunited with his owners! The staff were so nice and were really helpful! Im glad I came here!

They are absolutely amazing. Their office is clean. Some people say they are expensive but they are a cheaper than the other vets we’ve been to. They took good care of our puppy. We actually were extremely loyal to another vet in town until we had massive scheduling issues with them. My pup would have missed vital vaccines if it wasn’t for them. We’ve only been 2-3 times but so far we’ve had nothing but a great experience.

How do I begin? Well yesterday we had to submit one of beautiful fur babies there at Canal Veterinary. And it became a “tricky situation” between breeder (myself) and new fur parents. Every time I have to take one of our kids in Dr. Heather is always very helpful. Their staff is very kind and efficient. They definitely have your pets best interest in mind. My biggest issue with other vets office’s is that they seem to do unnecessary testing and your bill always ends up HUGE. Canal vet does a great job at listening to you and your your pets issues to know exactly what needs to be done. They are knowledgeable and I trust them 100% with my kids. There is not enough room to express all of the attributes of why Canal Vet is the best clinic in Turlock. Our dogs have been patients for over 30 years. Each of our crazy dogs have had more than exceptional care. We have experienced ear infections, torn ACL, Kidney cancer and more. Each of our dogs and ME have been treated with care, compassion and EXPERTISE. They have been referred out as needed. I found Canal Veterinary Hospital when I needed urgent care services for my aging cat, Pepper, who was in obvious pain for a reason I couldnt determine. The veterinary office I was familiar with was two weeks out on appointments - Pepper couldnt wait that long. I began calling every veterinary office in my area, with no luck of getting her in quickly - until I reached Canal Veterinary Hospital. Like the previous 4 offices I had contacted, they were booked out for several weeks. Even so, the clerk was kind enough to ask what the issue was. After describing that my Pepper was in obvious pain, she managed to get her in, between other appointments, that same day.It was at that appointment that I discovered the level of care my pets (3 dogs & 2 cats + ) had been missing out on. Dr.Larsson was quickly able to determine the cause of Peppers pain, and prescribe a (very affordable) treatment plan for her. I was amazed at the comfort level Pepper projected during the visit, (animals are the best judge of people). I had expected her to be terrified, as she was a barn cat that was not used to such experiences, but she seemed so relaxed. That is the day I discovered the BEST Veterinary Hospital I could ever hope for. I have since been back and they were just as amazing! I recommend them to anyone and always will.

Dr. Heather is by far (as in one thousand percent) the best vet I have ever had take care of my dogs. And at 71 years old there have been many. She is exceptionally patient and thorough in describing your pets health & challenges (going far beyond a cursory, short review) and will patiently answer all questions until you understand exactly what she is saying. She is compassionate and as empathetic as if she were treating her own animal, knowledgeable and up-to-date on current practices.We trust her implicitly. We didnt even contemplate getting a second opinion, even as our 15-year-old bull terrier deals with mast cell cancer that cannot be treated with an injection (due to the size when it was discovered.) If ANYONE else had told us to use Benadryl and pepcid AC as a means of shrinking the tumor (or at least to hopefully ensure it doesnt get larger) I would have been on high alert and likely gone elsewhere for a second opinion.We want the same thing in our vets as we want in our human doctors. We want them to listen to us and not rush the appointment. We want, at the end of the day, to thoroughly understand the medical opinion. Doctor Heather delivers all of this and more. She will even answer email follow-up questions at no charge. This is so refreshing in the decade we are living in where it really feels like everyone is in it for the money. Dr. Heather is in it because she has an obvious calling, innate talent, loves animals and has superior diagnostic instincts.If you are looking for a vet that will make you feel like your pet is the most important pet that she will see in her entire life, then you have found the right place with Dr. Heather at canal vet.

I first met Dr Larson when I took my first dog there to figure what was wrong with him. Turned out my dog had cancer and wasn’t going to make it. The Canal Vet team were so kind and comforting when I had to put him down. When we began taking our pug to Canal, we had heard of them through a family member. They had treated them with such kindness that we decided to drive our pug the 40 minute round trip to their office, just to experience the same thing.They never mistreated my dog, I never felt lied to, and I never felt like they cared about anything other than my dog’s well-being. We went through quite a bit of treatment with them, and the professional attitudes and demeanor of every doctor and worker kept us coming back. We had to leave only when we moved away, and they have still been available to us even over the year we have been gone. Canal Vet is Paws down the Best Veterinary office I have ever taken our pets to. Dr Heather gets right down on the floor with your pet and is at eye level with them. You can see how much she cares for your pet. Dr Larson helped me through one of the hardest times in my life. My precious Baby Boy Georgie (Blue Nose Pitbull) was very very sick. Dr Larson stayed with him through the weekend to care for him and try to get him better. Dr Larson had to call me and tell me he wasn’t going to make it he was just to sick to survive. I could tell it hurt him so to tell me. Dr Larson opened his office for me on Sunday so I could be with Georgie before we had to put to sleep. He gave me as much time as I needed to cuddle him and say my goodbyes. The office took care of all the cremation, giving me a print of his paw and Dr Larson shaved the diamond of white hair off his neck for me to keep. I will always be truly grateful for the care, kindness and love Georgie received. After one time there it was very obvious they werent concerned about our experience, nor were they concerned about Brooklyns, only concern was the payment and how much they could make. They suggested we do several things for Brooklyns long-term health, but it felt like all they wanted was our money. We began to look at other Vets in the area and found Canal. I feel like they really care about Brooklyns health and understand that money doesnt grow on trees. I had my kitten Babe for only a season. I have dogs at my ranch and I love them but I’d never had my very own pet so Babe was different from the rest. First time going here today and Wow was I impressed! You can tell the workers and doctors really care about your pet and they explain everything. Also very cost friendly. My dog was stung by a bee and I took him here, I called in the morning and got a walk up apt at 330 (also had them clip his nails) and it was. $70! I was so surprised considering another vet in town wanted to charge me $125 for a walk up apt just for my pet to be seen! I will definitely be coming back here and recommending this place to friends. I drove from out of town (2+ hours) to bring my sick dog into Canal Vet...thats how much I trust them. Dr. Heather spent a lot of time with me and my family going over what was wrong with my dog and coming up with a plan. I never felt rushed or felt like the Dr was in a hurry. Great Veterinarian’s for pets. The staff is nice & courteous especially during this covid19 pandemic. The Veterinarian’s are very attentive. My 6yr old small dog got very sick. He lost 10 pounds & he got a Mellitus diabetes diagnosis & kidney & liver issues. It’s been a several months but my dog is showing positive improvements. Canal vet hospital goes above and beyond expected service and care every single time I take my fur babies in. They are so awesome with my funny little Lola dog — and make her visits so easy that she actually gets excited when we walk by. Also- I found a litter of abandoned kittens and the vet took time out of her busy day to help me establish a feeding routine and care for the kittens. She also helped me puncture the baby bottles at no cost. They truly love animals here. I’ll never go anywhere else.

Dr Heather has been caring for my cat, Trixie, the past year and a half. Trixie suffers from IBD and recently had a serious flareup. She was very sick losing significant weight very quickly and refusing to eat. Dr. Heather made time to see Trixie the same day I called and every day for an entire week for injections and treatment. We came very close to losing Trixie and credit Dr. Heather with saving her life. This all occurred the last week of March 2020 during the pandemic. Canal Vet also has an ultrasound machine and does in-house blood work which is wonderful for pets like Trixie who need their condition monitored closely. Additionally, Dr. Heather is very kind, personable, intelligent, and takes the time to explain Trixies condition to me. The Canal Vet staff is all excellent and very efficient. Im very happy with Dr. Heather and Canal Veterinary Hospital.Five stars!

Our family and extended family have taken all our pets for regular care, extended care, as well as emergency care for 20 years to our Canal Vet. The receptionists are friendly and treat our pets as their own. The doctors and technicians are gentle and kind and up-to-date knowledgeable on current care for the situation. Backstory: We have used another vet in town for 18 years. As the years have passed, their service and passion for animals has vanished. Recently, they performed a surgery on our cat Charlie. He was not recovering well and was in a lot of pain. After several visits to the vet (over a period of two months) regarding Charlie’s pain level, the vet told me to drink more wine, and that Charlie would eventually recover when his nerves healed. $700 later and I’m told to drink wine?THEN my daughter recommended Canal Vet and raved about their love for animals. We took Charlie there and Dr. Heather took care of him like he was her own. He is now on his way to recovery and is almost back to his old pain free self. Words can’t describe how thankful we are to her. Her staff is also top knotch and their love for animals is very apparent. TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO CANAL VET! It was the best decision we have made as animal owners/lovers and we will never go anywhere else!

Ive been taking my dogs to Canal Veterinary Clinic for over 20 years and have always been happy with the level of care and knowledge of the staff. I took my dog Lexi here for what I thought might be a stroke so I was very afraid. Dr. Larsson was great. He vas very kind and really seemed to care about my dog. Took our Sarah in to see Dr. Larsson. for a 2nd opinion about a sore on her back leg- The vet at the other clinic after 2 months of seeing her finally told me it was a tumor, when I pressed the issue. Dr Larsson gave her a full senior check-up. and did a needle biopsy. He said before he did it he was 99% sure it was a pressure sore. I asked to to check anyway. Biopsy clean and that is what it was. So happy I took her there.

Dr. Larsson has treated my boy Koda several times. From kidney stones to skin allergies. Dr. Larsson has always been compassionate with me and Koda. Even though Koda can be a bit aggressive when he first sees you, it doesn’t scare the staff, they still treat him very well and I wouldn’t bring him anywhere else.Dr. Heather took care of my baby girl Princess when she had “happy tail”. Her tail needed to be amputated and Dr. Heather gave her a cute little nubby. All the staff is so kind and helpful. They definitely care for your pets and you.

I took my dog in because she had an abscess in her gums. After her surgery I realized they didnt give me the proper amount of antibiotics for her so I had to return to purchase more because they messed up. I also ended up paying more for the medicine because I purchased them separately. They took good care of my dog but I feel like I got overcharged a bit. Honestly I dont plan on returning back here. My sister had the same thing happen to her dog and she paid almost 35% less than me at another veterinarian.

As long as I live in the area, I will never go to another vet. When our dog was sick and other vets were sending us around town and even as far as UC Davis trying to find a diagnosis for him, Canal was the one that made the correct call and saved his life. When his disease meant over a year of daily medications, Canal helped me fill the orders at the lowest cost, even though it meant a loss for them. And when his disease finally became too much, Dr. Heather agreed to come out to the house so that he could meet his end in his favorite sunny backyard. I have been to every veterinary clinic in town, but Canal is the only one I keep coming back to. They know their stuff and care about both of their sets of patients, whether four-legs or two.
