Left hungry. Not satisfied with my purchase of tostada for $18 not coming here again. My friend got tacos and he got more meat and food than me for $12. Stop giving out small portions! You will lose your customers!

The white male at the front in his 50s named Chris is very unprofessional and easily irritable, this is the 2nd time I’ve come here and he has a horrible and unfriendly attitude. I get maybe having a rough day but this is the second time so Im assuming he’s just that unpleasant naturally. Not to mention they’d only been open for an hour. Would definitely look for someone else to run the front, not a very good look on the business with Chris and his “I hate my job” personality. Despite my interaction with Chris, the young girl cashiering today was very kind and helpful with a great personality!!

*Update April 2024*There were a few new faces in the house today and all were great. John, Peter, Melissa, and the team provided excellent customer service and overall staff morale seems improved. As always, food was delicious! Portion sizes were decent as well. Prices have gone up slightly recently, but still my favorite choice for taco Tuesday.They recently lost some great staff. Apparently, theyre not allowed to take their sick days per several staff (illegal) and lack any health benefits. The manager, Christopher, has started charging for things that have always been included, but his new rules are applied haphazardly. The overall morale of the staff stinks and is sometimes directed to the guests. All that being said, the food is good. The amount of meat given varies by whos serving you. Sometimes, its super stingy, other times its perfect. Taste is excellent. The hand-made drinks are delicious but often run out before closing. The fish and shrimp always look dry - havent tried them. Melissa and Laura are super nice and are part of the reason we keep returning. We also love Peter, Shaw, and Branden.

I dont know why, but they can never get the portions right when I order. I get the same thing every time. Its almost guaranteed that something in my order will be wrong or missing. The toppings come in different sized containers every time. I notice this the most with the cheese. I ask for cheese on the side for 2 meals. A couple of times they gave me two small containers of cheese at no charge. The next time I only got one small container and when I asked for another one the employee got mad. The next time I decided to pay extra for cheese since they dont give enough to begin with and I got a large container for $1.90. The last time I ordered I paid again for extra cheese, but this time I got a small container at the same price. There needs to be a standard size for toppings. Why am I paying the same amount of money for different amounts of cheese depending on whos making my order? I love the food, but would go to another location if there was another one in the area.

Wow, Ive never felt so bad for having had to order food. What an amazing bunch of awkwardly unprofessional line cooks.... they were literally so unpleasant that the entire line was held up staring at one another, wondering what the hall was going on.... still makes me cringe.Obviously, everyone here hates their jobs.. so maybe its time to fire everyone, but the cashier; who was also obviously bewildered and being made uncomfortable by his colleagues terrible attitudes

Some facets of our visit were good, like the employee at the register and the queso sauce. But there were a few disappointing aspects to our visit. The employee who prepared our food was having trouble keeping his pants from falling down to his ankles. He also put to many beans in our burrito so it immediately fell apart and had to be eaten with a fork. He also prepared our order to go (we were eating in store). The worst part was there were 3 or 4 gnats flying around the soda machine.

This is the most poorly managed Cafe Rio I have ever been to! Every time it is a bad experience, but I love Cafe Rio and its local, so I keep trying. Today I didnt even get to order, because they were too busy making a mobile order. I was the only person in line and after waiting 10 minutes, I asked how much longer would it be. The said they didnt know, so I left.

The staff were rude and seemed irritated while we were placing our order but well just assume they were having a bad day. We ordered Nachos and quesadilla! The tortilla was okay but the beef was absolutely delicious! Very juicy and savory. The nacho chips were also okay but they barely added anything. They put very little meat, small amount of cheese, and a little of sour cream, nothing like the photos taken by the owner which made it look like theyd get loaded up, it was all just a small amount piled onto the center. We had more plain chips than anything. We had beef and barbacoa, again the beef was very delicious but the barbacoa was overly sweet it felt like eating candy. Overall the experience was just okay.

A very inappropriate thing happened on my last visit. I hate to leave this in a review but can’t find any way to reach the owner on their website. I have ordered catering on several occasions here and haven’t had an issue, until recently.Apparently it was the day of the employee party. Several of us were waiting for our pick up orders and a few customers were in line for food. An employee ( I was told her name was Laura.) was loudly and angrily ranting and carrying on, mad that customers were there. She was saying things about being overworked and tired from making tortillas, mad no one locked the door. She started cursing profanities, walking over to waiting customers and yelling the F word at them. My husband and I were sitting and waiting. She approached us and started cussing at us. I told her to leave. She went in the restroom for a while, then left out the door stopping at the window to scream at us and flip us off. Everyone ignored her, including the employees.I feel like the owners should know about this. This cannot be a one time thing. She was way too comfortable, and now she behaved and no one seemed to know what to do with her. This threatening behavior is absolutely unacceptable.

Food its great, but something about the staff makes me think twice about going in. on a recent visit I received a hello when coming in but then they quickly scurried about their business. one was on her phone then walk past on the way to the bathroom. few minutes later they asked if I was picking up. food is great but potion seemed smaller than normal. maybe it was an off day. will try again and update.

Online people beware:The ordering process online isn’t too bad. It’s when you show up to get your food. My order was 15+ minutes late and missing many items from purchase. I attempted to trust the staff, but I learned my lesson. Tried to call number on receipt, but went to a regional center. They gave me a full refund, but it shouldn’t have gotten there when no one was in line, 4 people in the restaurant, and employees just chilling and hanging out. It’s clear as day management doesn’t care, as employees reflect the behavior of management.This isn’t the first time I’ve questioned the competency of the staff, but it’s not their fault. It’s the manager’s.

I’m so happy there is still a Mexican restaurant that believes everything does not have to be hot and spicy for food to be good. I enjoy the food at Cafe Rio and I hope that continue the excellent service and food. The worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The burrito I ordered had cold rice bland rice, felt like chewing little pebbles, the beans were an over cooked shlop, the chicken was bland. It was half the size of a chipotle burrito and wasnt even wrapped up nicely. The staff were rude, actually rude! Tossed the tray at me and rolled eyes. And on top of that, it cost me $15 for just the burrito. Never going there again. Hope they close down. Id give 0 stats if that was an option.

Ive been to the one in Lakewood & my salad was amazing, huge and full of meat, it towered my dish, so big I couldnt finish it...so I went to the one in Yorba Linda, look at the picture, first of all they were super slow, they are so un-organized behind the counter it really was sad to wait in this line for what I received, my Salad was half of what I received in Lakewood and was very disappointed for what I paid for a chicken salad and nachos...go to Lakewood, so much better.

Total rip off. $15 for a chicken burrito with barely any meat or flavor. Tons of lazies behind the counter asking ridiculous questions over and over Want lettuce? Want pico? Want cilantro? Want it wet? What? This is after reading a confusing pick- your-path menu ... What really got me was their misleading advertising - a huge sign where the line starts showing $1 50 for a Birria taco. I ordered one with my burrito. Turns out it was $6. The cashier gave me some incoherent reason re why it increased in price 4x..This place not only sucks, its money grabbing. Not going again.

This spot in all aspects is absolutely EXCELLENT!! Dexter G and Samantha Lopez are bright, cheerful and precise. Our all time favorite Hombre @ Cafe Rio is Peter B., as he is just exceptional and always is patient (we are picky, w/allergies). Peter is kind, with such phenomenal recommendations...bc of him we now eat salsa verde burritos but only from Cafe Rio. EZRA is another great one, such great energy. We, literally taste the love in our food so return every Monday for Chicken soup+ beef burritos, tacos, and free Niño Quesadillas for the kiddos.Sure Taco Tues is less expensive but the chaos isnt for me. Today, we had a quick chat w/Mgr Daniel to share how grateful we are for his ROCKSTARS . ¡Gracias! Hope the aforementioned are all recognized for their efforts, such a dream team.

I ordered a burrito enchilada style. The person making it barely added any pieces of steak. Then, the next person added way too much lettuce ( I believe they got it wrong and thought it was a salad). I ordered pico, cheese and sauce(mild) for the enchilada style portion and they told me multiple times that I had ordered a salad when clearly that was not the case. All these sides were charged extra when that’s not the case for a burrito enchilada style they even charged me a side of lettuce when I had not ordered a salad in the first place. The total came up to $45 for two burritos and sodas. Unbelievable bad service, they were telling me what to order instead of prepping what I ordered. I didn’t even get my receipt to report to cafe rio. I used to be a fan but not after this visit. It ended up being a burrito of salad. Horrible customer service.

I love cafe rio. There were only a few customers there on the afternoon we were there. The service was good, but the food was below average sadly. The queso was burned or overcooked, old and gross tasting. The meat they served on my salad was on the dry side and not very good. Hopefully it was an anomaly that day. But not a great experience at this location that day.

I absolutely love cafe Rio but this place is going down hill fast. I literally thought I was being punked. Ordering food was a joke. I kept asking my boyfriend where were we and laughing because we couldn’t believe it. The lady at the tortilla station was pretending to throw a bag of dough at another employee. Then just listening to their conversation while waiting to move to the next part. The next guy asked what type of meat I wanted several times and asked me which one was asada. Then the next guy after him asked me if I wanted lettuce for my salad. Ummm yes I do! And then asked if I wanted cilantro but already had it on and through more on. After that he decided to ramble on about how he couldn’t pronounce the cheese he was slowly adding to my salad. On top of it all my tortilla was salty. Just sad to see a yummy restaurant go down hill.

We placed an order online for pick up, but when i got home it seriously looked like meat for rwo tacos was spread for four. We ordered a quesadilla, and we couldnt see the cheese. When i brought back the food and showed and showed the manager he said the cheese was underneath the meat. We love Cafe Rio and have been coming here a handful of times every month since they opened but lately it hasn’t been the same. We always get the barbacoa salad and their rice always seems to be undercooked and this last time they really skimped on the meat and lettuce. My husband enjoys it by his work at the Tustin location and says his salad is usually overflowing and great amount of meat. Maybe with more open reviews like this, they’ll make changes to how it was when we fell in love with Cafe Rio!

Yesterday late afternoon (4:30) was my second visit to this location in 2 weeks. Both times the restaurant was a mess. The kitchen had spills all over, the first station of steamer was disgusting, two sauces had evaporated downs so far leaving a thick “skin” draped over the product in the bin. Meat bins empty with dried crusty food stuck in them, other meat (chicken breast) was dry and old. The beans were dry and as thick as retried beans, the rice looked old and had dry rice at the top. Food dropped on the floor, under cabinets. The floor looked dirty in the kitchen and dining area. Two weeks ago, the iced tea dispensers weren’t covered(the lids were on top of the soda machine, yesterday, the same, but bone dry tea residue in the hopper.Tea dispensers need to be cleaned DAILY!This cleanliness issue is obviously a long term issue at this location. It is NOT due to Jack of employees, either. Both times there were more employees working in the kitchen than I’ve seen ANYWHERE in months.

I have been to this location a few times hoping it would get better. The staff has no idea what they are doing and are often unprofessional. They dont handle the food correctly and take much longer than other locations. I started ordering online hoping to skip some of the issues. But dont ever have the order ready or correct. I recommend going to one of the other locations. Don’t ever eat at this location.

I was really excited when I found out cafe Rio was opening just down the street from me. Since opening this location has been an absolute disappointment. Poorly trained staff, bland food, small portions and they nickel and dime charge you extra for everything. Today I ordered the two taco plate which is supposed to include rice and beans. When the young man preparing my meal asked me if I wanted anything else, I said to him didnt it come with rice and beans? He said it was $2 more for rice and beans. I pointed out to him that their sign said it includes rice and beans, and then he said oh he didnt know that. Then when I paid for my meal the price sounded high. I asked why and was told that there is a $1 surcharge for the chicken tacos. Usually chicken is the least expensive meat at a restaurant & these clowns charge an extra $1 for chicken!!! Then I saw them try to charge the young girl behind me in line an extra dollar because she asked for salsa instead of dressing on her salad. Shouldnt a salad come with your choice of dressing or salsa? This place is ridiculous.

Food was spectacular. What made the Cafe Rio experience terrible, was the very simple fact: that our To-Go order had no utensils, n back to our hotel room where we had no utensils there either. It then became messy n ugly eating rice & beans with our fingers & hands. Then eating the delicious Tres Leches dessert face/mouth right into the bowl and their bomb Chicken Tortilla Soup w/no soup, was like a real life episode of Family Double Dare. Sadly I didnt think to ask for utensils since I figured they would automatically accompany a To-Go order. Because of simply no utensils, our dinner was not enjoyed how it should of been. Please put utensils with your To-Go orders. If it becomes a costly expense, then please make it a habit to always offer utensils to your guests, ESPECIALLY IF they forget to ask you. Remind them and let them say yes or no. Ill try you guys again in October. I hope to rate Cafe Rio higher.

I love cafe Rio food and have so since the first restaurant opened in southern Utah! It was alway a favorite stop on my way to Zion park. However, this is the worst run location I’ve ever had the displeasure of picking up food from. Several times orders were incorrect and rice and beans weren’t cooked properly. Staff doesn’t seem to know what they are doing and are very slow. The last tortilla I had was overcooked as it was sitting on the grill for way too long. Sadly, I’m done with this location and will wait til I drive out of to OC to go back to cafe Rio.

I have craved Rio since finding it 10 years ago in the SLC Airport with airline crews lined up to order. Now growing more into in socal, it is getting its due. The sweet pork is OTW, the chicken has great juicy flavor, the barbacoa steak has just enough charr, the salsa fresca is serrano-perfection, the fresh tortillas are worth their own side order, and the horchata is perfection. All that before you realize that $2 Taco Tuesday is a huge value. Yeah, Im a fan!

The service was rushed. When I asked for meat I replied chicken and before I could specify what chicken I was served shredded chicken. The tacos were soggy and honestly had too much meat to the point that they could not hold the lettuce, Pico, and cilantro. The side portions were small given the high prices you pay. Rice was dry and blan, so I covered it in lime juice to add flavor. My friends like this place but I was not a fan. I might go back to try their burrito but Im not in any rush to do so. I think Ill stick with Chipotle.

The staff here are all amazing, very well mannered and professional. I always see a young man name Luke Brady Luke and am impressed by his work performance, always greeting all the customers and mainting the public areas . First visit left us wanting more. Second visit cured that problem. We went on a Sunday evening and was severely disappointed. The cilantro rice was old and crusted on the container. The cilantro in the rice looked brown... Carne asada was acceptable. When I went to throw our trash away, we couldnt. The trash can was completely full and people were beginning to just leave their trash on the top cover. My kid said we should have gone to Chipotle, after this meal, I agree with him.

This place is not authentic, so dont compare it to authentic Mexican food... With that said, the hand made tortillas are great, salsas are flavorful (Habanero sauce needs to be 10X spicier), and the meats have good flavor too... Cafe Rio is way better than Chipotle hands down... Only downside to this location is that theyre stingy compared to the Lakewood location...

Great food. However, I have some hard feelings. The first time I went there, I ordered nachos and they said that they hadnt made any chips so I could get nachos if I was willing to wait for them to make the chips. Friendly service and food was great. If you are on a keto diet, or a low-carb diet, they can accommodate you by just giving you meat and cheese, but you will pay full price. I had just one scoop of the steak, with a little bit of cheese, and paid over $11. This was for a taco salad with no salad, no beans, and no chips.

In past years, I had always loved going to Cafe Rio. I was delighted to see that there was a cafe rio in Yorba Linda when I located here. I have been there 3 times over the last 5 years and each time I am sadly disappointed. Today was the last time I am eating at their establishment. The food was clearly not fresh at all- the salsa had a thick dark layer on the top, the meat did too. The surrounding surface areas were very dirty. It does not appear that any thorough cleaning takes place on the counter surfaces or the food preparing areas. I actually questioned if I wanted to continue with my order as I was worried I may be eating bacteria contaminated food. The employees were slightly more enthusiastic than previously observed but still not a welcoming entourage. I have noticed that everytime I go to Cafe Rio, there is little to no customers and I understand why. The food did not taste horrible, although the rice was not fully cooked. But just the thought of eating old food that’s been left out for an unknown amount of time (probably because of a lack of customers) had made me think twice about the food I was consuming. I agree with the other customers complaining of small food portions, they offer super tiny portions at high prices… I would’ve been able to look past that if I trusted the food but it’s just another nail in the coffin. Sadly, I won’t be returning.
