I read an article and this bbq ranked No.19 in the whole US, though I never heard of it before. I tried it yesterday with my husband and friends. We had a big rack of big ribs, with side sampler, Mexican corn, onion rings, fries and kid size pulled pork sandwich, plus corn bread and peach cobbler for dessert. The price here is very reasonable and the quantity is very good. The foods are very delicious, and especially the beef ribs, probably the best in SD I’ve ever had so far. All the sides are very very good, I love potato salad, coleslaw, fries, beans, corn…. The corn bread is also highly recommended. The only thing I don’t really into is the peach cobbler, too doughy for me. Anyways, it’s a nice place to have a great bbq!

The basic analogy we used is:A good chunk of what makes Phils good is the sauce.This place is as good, without the need for sauce. Is it better? Well no, they dont have a sauce worth highlighting.Translation: The meat is *good*, come here if you want some good food without anything special about it, its just really good. No, its not Texas style, it gets the closest out of all of them in the region. But its designation as SoCal BBQ is appropriate.Only complaint is that the place is a bit small, inside it gets quite loud and theres not much space. Even the patio is small, and contrary to inside it feels maybe too isolated.

If your on the edge about this place, jump off the cliff. Cause its a place you cant take the chance to miss. Everything we ordered was on par or above expectation. The meet was tender and juicy beyond belief, we all fought over the corn bread, but the surprise of the night was how unbelievable their turkey was! We were blown away by the quality and the amazing work ethic that must have gone into cooking such flavourful food. Kudos to everyone in house. Yall are great at your craft and we appreciate you for it.

What a fun place to go and enjoy some really great BBQ. My boyfriend was stoked with his ribs. Boy, were they beautiful and tasty. The mac balls were delicious and my chicken sandwich was outstanding. I got the last one, too. They do sell out of items, so be sure to get there early if you want the shhh puppies. We missed out this time but will be back to try them soon. The staff was so friendly and our pup was allowed to eat with us. He is well behaved so we are lucky. He sure enjoyed the rib bone dad gave him, too. Id recommend going to enjoy the night here at this fun spot in El Cajon.

Food was bland, and when we ordered dessert, we had to wait for those orders that were ordered after our dessert order to be served. What happened to first come, first served? I guess the cook doesnt know how to multi-tasking, or the servers know how to help out in the kitchen, and it wasnt busy. Even the dessert wasnt that good. Yeah, were not going back there again.

This review is long overdue. Buckboard BBQ catered a team dinner for Granite Hills Football. We hosted 95 people after practice and hands down this was one of the best experiences for the boys. The food was INCREDIBLE. The boys got seconds and thirds of all the options and the serving staff was phenomenal. Bonus Buckboard was generous enough to provide dinner for our boys at a cost we could afford. Thank you for the wonderful food and team dinner. We have frequented the restaurant many times since then and every dinner was amazing. El Cajon has a GEM in Buckboard BBQ.

The first time going to this place. It was Mothers Day. My son took me here. We ordered the sampler with chicken, brisket, ribs, potato salad, beans and coleslaw. We really enjoyed the food. A little noisy but it was ok

Parmesan truffle fries were great! House salad was okay, not impressed. The chicken entrees were okay the other adults said and burger was pretty good.Loaded queso nachos were delicious. The hostess and waitress were very nice.Lady manager was rude to my daughter in law when she asked about family discount. She didnt believe her and she had received discount before. The manager said that Arturo stated he didnt know her and he had come to our table before leaving. I think maybe Manager lied and she said she knew my daughter in laws father Martin Aguilar whom works there. I should have told manager to look at all the pictures we all had of Martin and his daughter that was sitting right there. Anyway, we wont be eating here again. Food not worth the expense. We didnt need discount anyway, but it was principle of the situation. .

Stopped in here for lunch after church and there was no wait! The staff was friendly and helpful (we were first timers) and the food came out pretty quickly. Delicious tri-tip, perfectly creamy coleslaw (not too heavy on the mayo), & perfect Texas toast! The restaurant features some different BBQ sauces, but they tasted fairly similar and the jalapeno one didnt pack much heat, just FYI. I didnt have room for dessert but all 3 options sounded delicious! The decor is vintage and goes well with the vibe inside. We hope to return soon!

Sams the best! Food is great! I went two days in a row because I didnt care to look for any place else. I knew the food would be good and worth the price! Aged vanilla cream soda on tap. The sweet potato fires are odd. But a good odd! Battered so they are crispy outside but hot and soft on the inside.

One of the best BBQ restaurants in the San Diego! The staff is great and friendly along with the owners. The whole family and friends loved the food along with the drink selection. Definitely adding this to my list of go to restaurants. Just heard they are expanding there parking area which will help since parking is tight.

Made the mistake of placing my order on UberEats a few minutes before closing. I gave them a call to cancel but they said it was fine and they would still honor my order. I am definitely glad they did! The meats were really tasty and juicy! I enjoyed the the Tri-Tip and pulled pork the most and they went really good with the OG sauce. The Jalapeno sauce was good too and I used that for my chicken. I also really like their cornbread and maple butter. The bread was the right amount of moist and density and was complimented really well by the butter that had a hint of maple in it. I will definitely be ordering from this place on a regular basis! I cant wait to try the other items in the menu! Thank you!

A short thirty minutes from North County to check out this western style barbecue grill house and man oh man! Buckboard is one of the best barbecue cuisine north, south, east and west! The portions were generous, tasty, tender with six barbecue sauces for our baby back ribs, pulled pork, chicken and tri tip. Lets not leave out the cole slaw and baked beans- yummy.The staff was friendly and the fine selection of fresh craft beers on tap complimented our meal. Talk about finger linking good...the cornbread was tender and sumptuous with I believe maple butter on top.We finished with homemade bread pudding and a peach cobbler with whip cream.

Great food nice atmosphere however there seems to be an issue with the beer lines tons of foam coming out which means 1 of 3 things beer lines need to be cleaned, beer is not being kept at the correct temperature or the beer lines are too long.

This is my first time here, my dad wanted BBQ for Fathers Day so I looked on Google and ordered online. As soon as we pulled up outside, the style of the restaurant was really cool, and parking was good.We walked in and were greeted right away and very friendly. They checked on our online order and mentioned its almost ready (we came early) and the host gave us a fountain drink while we waited. Super great service! That simple yet kind gesture is enough for us to come back and we havent even tried the food yet!

Awesome place! My boyfriend and I tried the pulled pork, tri tip, chicken, mac & cheese balls, mexican corn, & coleslaw and everything tasted great! We’re pretty picky on BBQ sauces, but the three offered were delicious. The staff was so friendly & the inside was cute! Prices seem expensive initially but the portions & quality of food are worth every penny.The only negative was they didn’t have football playing on a Sunday, but were apologetic & tried to put it on for us. Highly recommend giving them a try! We’ll be back :)

The majority of the food here was fantastic. I really enjoyed the fried Mac and cheese. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. The only problem I had was with the hush puppies. They did not taste good at all. We shared one and then we threw the rest away to not spoil the meal. Afterwards I went to the restroom to wash my hands and was amazed at how clean it was. A great experience for sure! Just not going to order the hush puppies again.

I generally dont leave positive reviews because I tend to forget to, but I have so rarely experienced such perfection in both customer service and product that I wanted to make sure I left one. The food was phenomenal. The employees were beyond polite, helpful, and friendly. My only complaint, which is 100 percent on me, is that their estimate on how much a catering item can feed is very accurate, so I ordered far too much food. Ill be eating, and savoring, their amazing BBQ for weeks. I would not hesitate to suggest this place to anyone.

I really dont want to advertise this place because it may turn out to be an alternative to Phils and there would be a line out the door. What this place has that no other place has is a real burger, with real wedge fries, and real onion rings.Even better than 5 guys. The burger meat is a coarser ground mix of chuck and Tri-Tip that comes out tasting like a steak. But, the sides are fresh and tasty. So, if you are tired of ordering potatoes that are limp, white, and cold, revive your trust in the all-American burger and fries combo and see if this might be your new special place for burgers.

Enjoyed the experience of great food, good customer service, good variety of beer and cider. The beef ribs were mouth watering falling off the bone, superb no extra house sauce needed. Recommend the sampler plate and add a sausage. Coleslaw is nice and mild with a slight vinaigrette ending, so eat to the last bite. Beans a little sweet, pulled pork was good and needed to be paired with the house sauce but the beef brisket was perfect and flavorful.When your done, the food is so good your going to want to thank the chef personally. Highly recommend.

My expectations of what good BBQ are just different. The baby back ribs that they use have a substantial amount of meat on the bones. Unfortunately, they were served cold, and without any sauce, they have no real flavor.They offer you 3 house made sauces in 1-ounce souffle cups which is not enough for a half rack of ribs.Their French fries were served scalding hot. Unfortunately,unseasoned and disappointingly tasteless.The decor of the restaurant is all dark wood, which is nice, if that is your thing.They appear to have an impressive array of beers for sale in either bottle or glass, as well as serve a lesser known brand of sodas. The root beer was tasty.Overall, not the worst BBQ experience, but in my mind, a little too expensive for the food quality considering there are other, better BBQ restaurants within a 5 mile radius of this restaurant.

Ive tried many BBQ places in San Diego and this is the first place Id say was actually good. The ribs were cooked perfectly and the chicken was moist. The meat had a great flavor without adding BBQ sauce. The homemade sauces were delicious as well. I would definitely eat here again.

Amazing! I ordered a half rack of beef ribs and they hooked me up with a whole rack. The beef ribs are on the smaller (think middle to bottom end of the rib cage) but there were 8 ribs in total that were very tasty. Honestly I didn’t it even extra BBQ sauce but all of them are good. I also tried their BBQ beans and they are fabulous. I am unsure what all was added but it definitely had some meat chunks or what I think is pork and beef, but I could be wrong. Either way, very good beans and in my top 3 for sure. Ashley helped me and was super helpful and courteous. When I tried them San Diego just gotten into the orange zone so they weren’t ready for in door dining yet, but a good spot to check out if and when I get back to that area. I would highly recommend those items.

Visiting San Diego, we searched for a great bbq spot and boy did we find a great one. Our group got baby back ribs, tri tip, sausage, chicken sandwich, coleslaw & bread pudding. With huge portions, there wasnt a thing left on our trays. We loved everything. Not only do they have great food, but the staff was so friendly. Made us feel at home. What a hidden gem. Fully sealed and organized within the bag every single time. The food is decently portioned and tastes amazing. Like for example onion rings don’t normal travel well (but thease onion rings traveled well). Like all the little details are there.Please keep doing exactly what your doing now!!

This place is hands down the best BBQ Ive ever had from a restaurant. Ive never eaten inside but discovered them via Doordash. Even with it being delivered and not eating it for 30 minutes after its ready, its still amazing. I always get The Best of Buck plate. It is so much food, definitely enough for 2 people. I am a big sauce/dip kind of person and this meat is so good I forget to use any BBQ sauce. Give them a try, you wont regret it!

Weve been here twice now. We love it, and so do our friends. Fast service, friendly helpful staff. Both visits Ive had a burger, and Maureen has had the pulled pork, and tri-tip, both were very good. Burger cooked right, and moist, and the mac and cheese is really good. All the food we and our group, was well received.The owner Fadi, is a rather friendly, engaging fellow. We came here to celebrate my moms birthday, and we were seated immediately on the nice patio. Our food was served within a reasonable time, and it was fresh, hot, carefully plated and delicious. All the staff were kind to us and made us feel welcome. I asked what dessert items they had to celebrate my mom and ordered the peach cobbler. Forget about that one place everyone says is best in San Diego, this place is above and beyond anything that place has to offer (yall know who Im talking about). Buckboards is amazing. Decided on this BBQ based on other reviews. We werent disappointed! This place served up some delicious BBQ! We had the beef and the pork half racks with a sampler of sides, macaroni and cheese, corn muffin and a wedge salad. Wow! Delicious!! All food is prepped fresh, daily, in house. No frozen prepackaged sides here! We arrived before lunch, and dining room was packed by time we left with more customers coming in. They offer outside dining as well. Staff VERY friendly, welcoming, and helpful.Order and pay at the counter. Sit wherever you like in dining room. Fountain drinks and tea are self serve. Hand wash sinks conveniently nearby. Condiments and paper towels on table. And if you need it, like we did, just ask for to-go boxes at the counter. Great first dining experience! We will be back!

Beef ribs are so very difficult to judge because of so many determining factors and probably as a consequence not too many places have ever lasted serving them because of how difficult it is to get any great reviews on them,Buckboards serves up for $20 three ribs that seem mighty beefy by looking at them in their container, the way that they smoke them and prepare them does make the meat very tender and tasty genuinely, thats why I give it a three because past that theyre very small and theyre extremely well done like beyond well done just extremely well done and absolutely slaughtered with a molasses consistent of a barbecue sauce that is surprisingly tasty but so much on it, its unnecessary its just way too much, and really smoked down to where the meat is so small of an amount left, but thats their business, I probably will eat them again but probably not that often and thats my honest review

Nothing special. Definitely not Texas BBQ.Basically it was just smothered in sauce.Legit bbq doesnt even need sauce but it was definitely needed to choke it down at this place.

Was not satisfied at all..... Food was cold when we got it the shhhh puppies were nasty tasting.been there one time before when they first opened about 6 months ago. Food was great then, not tonight...I dont think well be going there AGAIN

I disagree beef ribs 70% fat sides were not hot and coleslaw plane and dry no flavor no ice for customers and you guys need to open up more stop being scared is why you dont have more people dining oh but ther is the food issue still
