The sculptures, and specifically the serpent, were definitely worth the drive from San Diego. We had such a fun time crawling around the various sculptures and attempting to see all of them. We wore ourselves out and then had pie in Julian to look forward to. I strongly recommend reading up on the sculptor. He was a construction worker by trade and has an interesting store.

Great to see in person. The scale of it is insane and looking at it up close and seeing all the details is amazing. The road goes down the middle of the serpent. It is great to see it at night during a full moon too like I did. A definite must when visiting Borrego Springs!

The serpent is a beautiful art installation. Great for photos, best at sunrise for the light and the fewest visitors walking around. It’s a little challenging to keep your shadow out of the picture.

This is an incredibly beautiful place to visit! I love how otherworldly it feels! It’s very peaceful and relaxing. The big dragon does get crowded so I recommend starting with the smaller sculptures because you may have to wait to snap a dope photo. I try try to go around the beginning of sunset for optimal lighting and also less people!

A visit to Borrego Springs is not complete unless you drive out to see the Serpent.For those who dont know hes huge and constructed so it looks like he goes under the road.An added treat go up there to see the wild flower bloom.

Big Shout out to the artists who put all these work of art sculptures on display, free of charge to the public. Very amazing place to visit indeed. The drive off the Fwy 15 to Hwy 79 was a breeze, once turning left on San Felipe Rd, you will drive on a nice winding road all the way up to 4,200 Ft MSL, then descending down on a curvy road to Borrego Valley at about 550 Ft.

Amazing place to visit. Great time to take a picture is when the sun is about to set. Plenty of sculptures to check out at Galleta Meadows. The whole family will enjoy. If you are hitting the trails. There are some easy trails all over. Check out the Gas Domes Trail and the Pumpkin Patch Trail. You can do these 2 trails in 3-4hours. There are some sand dunes you can enjoy also.

This place is magical!! Wow!! Out in the midlle of nowhere pops out a cute little city with great desert charm. One of the gems here are the Iron Sculptures scattered across the city. Of these the Serpent was by far the most intricate and captivating. It is incredible by any stretch and looks so at home here in the desert sand. Come out and enjoy!! GOD Bless!!

Interesting metal statues, made for a nice stop for photos and an outdoor picnic. Actually enjoyed the ants walking about in the sand that challenged themselves with carrying our breadcrumbs back to their anthill. Amazing sense of smell, I think, and determination for carrying big wins back to the nest for the benefit of the colony.

This is a cool, huge sculpture that appears to dip under the road. It is one of over a dozen in the area. The drive into Borrego Springs is awesome. And if youre here, dont miss the Peg Leg Smith historic plaque and the Texas Dip.

Way bigger in person than it looks on Instagram! I didnt realize the serpent continues on both sides of the road. Such cool desert art. Apparently it was built for a festival at one point and then kind of left as part of the private Goleta Meadows collection. I had no idea there were so many sculptures on this private land. The serpent is obviously the most famous but theres really cool sculptures all up and down the road and off the road. I also really liked the scorpion and the tortoises and of course the Padre!

We thought theses were very cool Hand made Metal Sculptures all over the Borrego Springs Desert a must see if visiting Borrego Springs. You can walk,ride bikes, or drive your car, up to the Sculptures. They stand high above the Desert floor. Just guessing, maybe most stand 12- 15 ft? Some as little as 2- 3 ft tall. Very Cool

Amazing sculpture. Worth a trip just to see the serpent (look around from there and you might get lucky & spot over a dozen other sculptures within a short driving distance). The artist, Ricardo Becedra, has placed over 100 of them in random locations throughout Borrego Springs. There are dinosaurs, horses, sheep, turtles, camels, elephants, raptors, and llamas, too. Among my favorites are the scorpion, the grasshopper, the jeep, the serpent, and the prospector with his pack horse.

Like being on safari but with metal sculptures. We had a great time visiting this site it is spread out over a large area with dirt roads winding around the metal sculptures. The kids had a great time riding and running between all of the different creations. While they were all great to view the serpent was the highlight for our group.

Its kind of a walking and driving tour. I read that you could ride bikes, but there isnt much road to share. Its very dusty. However, as long as its not windy youre ok. Theres a lot to see and when its busy its hard to get the pictures you want. I felt like when youre at Disneyland and theres a line to take a pic with your favorite princess. But theres no line, its everyman for himself. But everyone was polite. The serpent is like Cinderella, and the other creatures across the street were like Pocahontas, or even Dale and Chip. I would like to go back and visit more of the main town area at Christmas circle. And I think it would be amazing at dusk.

Always such an amazing place to visit. Especially if youre a tourist trying to go sightseeing out in the desert. You do have to be careful with the heat in the summer as it can get to 125° so safety is of great concern. Bring lots of water. Some food places close by aswell as a liquor store and gas station off of Christmas Circle. Theres about 150 statues out there. This is the most iconic one. You do not need a 4x4 to drive out on the sand. Even a economy car can drive on it. If you wanna see more be sure to follow this Google account aswell as my Instagram @Manbehindalens

Pretty cool for a road trip or day trip. Definitely would not do it during summer months but it was fun to find the sculptures driving around. They supposedly have a map at the visitors center in town but we just did a few google searches and drove around. The artwork is pretty incredible. I would recommend packing a lunch and just enjoying the time driving around and exploring.

Great sculpture! The details are breathtaking and for how large it is. There wasnt too many people around so I was able to get clear shots. Some people parked their cars on the main road and blocked part of the sculpture if you try and take a landscape picture. We had a blast on the metal treasure hunt. Bonus was it was also blooming season for all the flowers.

Dont take this route if u are afraid of your car breaking down in the middle of nowhere. This road is so quiet and creepy. We were there in the middle of the day and I think we saw no more than 4 cars go by. We took some quick pictures and left.

The serpant is One of the most standout structures in galleta meadows in Anza Borrego Park. It is great place to picture the sunset and the milkyway galaxy. I have got some really great pictures at this place. It is one of the recommended places to visit if coming to Borrego Springs.

Great artwork spread around Borrego Springs. The serpent is my favorite due to the details of the work and it expands to the other side of the road. My family has a great time taking photos. We even brought our light sabers for our photos. Parking is found right near the sculpture. Just be careful crossing the road to see the tail.

Super bloom is in so go now! Very detailed and beautiful sculpture, there are a lot of others in the area as well. Anza borrego is a great desert with lots to offer. Christmas circle is a nice little park and there are some nice restaurants and bars across the street. If you like art, check out the museum they sometimes have exhibitions of local artists.

Galleta Meadows metal monsters. This art installation in Borrego Springs was commissioned by the late Dennis Avery. He hired artist Ricardo Breceda to create 130 different statues that spread over 1500 acres. Mr. Avery opened up his land so people could drive through and see the art. Today, the Under the Sun Foundation seeks to breathe new life and meaning into the existing sculptures. They started The Candlewood Arts Festival which welcomes new artists to display temporary art installations across the property during the festival.

This one is probably my favorite out of all the sculptures out here.Its a unique design how it goes under the Earth and comes up again in several spots.It even goes underneath the road and comes up again so its on both sides.It is a giant medieval looking serpent sculpture that makes you want to walk up close to it and check it out.

This was truly impressive to see. The story behind these sculptures all spread out in this geographic area are also impressive when you account for all the factors and variables that went into making these sculptures.The drive out is beautiful but make sure to stay in 2nd gear when coming down the mountain from Ramona as to not burn your brakes on the way way, show up early, and dont be a millennial ding bat and stand or try and ride the sculptures because thats just not cool.

Great experience visiting the serpent and Galleta Meadows art sculptures in Borrego Springs. The Serpent is in two parts, each part on each side of the road.The tail and lower body is in an open area like the rest of Galleta Meadows that you can that you can hike, horseback, and even drive your car through... however off-road OHV vehicles are not allowed.The upper body and head of the serpent is on the other side of road, and has barrier so you have to get out of your car to get a photo of the head of the serpent. The walk is short and easy to traverse the dirt and sand.Accessibility: The dirt and sand throughout the Galleta Meadows is mostly hard packed with a few loose spots. If your wheelchair has mountain/sand tires and a Freewheel... you are golden. If you have narrow street or court type casters, take your photos from the vehicle and ask someone to take closeups of the serpent head for you.If you have power assist on your manual chair. SmartDrive and Smoov are not recommended (the dirt and sand is too fine & loose). Spinergy ZX1 and eMotion are doable.Power chairs... depends on how off-road capable your power chair is. Tires, casters, bottom clearance. If you have an Omeo... you are golden.

Amazing artwork! I love most of the sculptures here! The sculptures of dragon and scorpion really stood out for me! Borrego Springs also offers breathtaking views of mountains! I had a great time here! But the drive to this place was a hassle due to the curvy roads and high altitudes, which left me nauseous! But it’s totally worth it! :)

Impressive sculpture that spans the road! Its amazing how much detail has been worked into the sculpture considering its made out of metal. This sculpture in particular at Galleta Meadows attracts a lot of people, so be prepared to have a bit of a wait before you can get your turn at taking pictures!

Really big, really cool, super busy and very hot.This is the biggest of the sculptures youll find in Borrego springs. Unsurprisingly, its also the most popular.Check it out early in the morning or right around sunset for the best lighting and relief from the desert heat.We spent about 1 hour at this one even though it was high noon. It would be a great place to sit in the sand or shade under one of the segments and have a picnic.

Driving through the sculptures was so much fun. The creativity of the person who created these. You can tell there was so much time and effort put in. Its def worth the little detour. You can drive up to all of them. So if youre hot or lazy no biggie you can sit in the comfort of the AC in the car and still enjoy.

A fun experience in the desert. Sculptures are not all at the same spot; 1-2 min drive necessary to reach some of them. People park on the shoulder and walk to the sculptures, others park directly in the sand. Sand could be soft, be careful.

We originally went to find the Desert Super Bloom but found the Sculptures sprinkled throughout the Valley to be more interesting. Spent the day checking them all out. It was a good time spent with friends and family.

All the sculptures are interesting to look at. I was under the impression you hike from one to the next but I was wrong, you pretty much drive up to them. Luckily it was quiet when I went but I can imagine it being chaotic if its busy since the dirt roads getting to them arent organized

Not a lot around there besides the sculptures spread out. We found some of them good, some not so. There are a few that are awesome! The serpent is definitely a site to see! High clearance awd recommended if you want to drive close to them all.

You can drive right up close to most of the structures. This is free and open to the public during COVID. Free maps and information is available at the Anza-Borrego State Park Visitors Center but their parking lot has a $10 fee per car, $9 for seniors.

A huge metal sculpture in the middle of desert. There are quiet a few metal sculptures throughout the park but none as big as this one. Hence, usually crowded. It’s hard to take a picture without people in background. Must visit if you are in the area.

The best time to visit is inclement weather; Youll have the place to yourself & the lighting makes for incredible photos! Dawn & Dusk would be spectacular as well. The scale of this sculpture is vast, the last reviewer must have been confused by the wide expanse of desert with no size reference. The head of the dragon is the size of the cab on a semi truck & the body must be the length of 4-5 semi trucks! Its huge! The detail is incredible. It must have taken months with a MIG welder to put all the roughness on the ?tentacles? Its well worth going for a wander toward the neighborhood to the west, there are more sculptures there

Very cool place. The serpent was my favorite art piece out here. I visited at 9am, and I want to return one night and view it under the full moon.
