If you love books youll love this bookstore. It has a nostalgic vibe. The librarians are friendly and helpful. You also have Carolines coffee shop right across the street. Ive been to the book store a couple of times now and plan to go back soon.

An amazing historical building filled, on two floors, with an eclectic array of REAL, hard and paperback, fiction and nonfiction subjects, across the full spectrum. The people are friendly and extremely knowledgeable! It’s a perfect fit, within the richly historical setting of Nevada City, CA.

Great find for used and some new books! Broken up into many shelves and littles rooms. The main floor has the stacks one sees walking in but there are many nooks and crannies to explore. There are books, DVDs, comic books, posters, and did I mention all the books in every genre? Had a stroll and picked up two books totally all of ten dollars.Parking is easy with the lot in the back. Walking up the short stairs brings one to the back patio with a lot of specials on sale. Found my two finds, Mark Twain on California and The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky.I had a great time here. Love the feel, the books, and the nice man that charged my sale by hand. This is what is great about exploring new places.

If you like books, you HAVE to check out Booktown Books in downtown Grass Valley. This is a used bookstore and you could literally spend hours here just browsing. There are treasures to be found everywhere!

This may not be the place but honestly I am not sure where to post about this that wont take it down.This morning my 9yr old and myself enjoyed coffee and coco and Carolines and made our away across the street to Booktown Books.We go here regularly my partner, daughter and myself. She finds some books and reads a little before deciding what she likes. She loves to sit up top the stairs and enjoy a book and the view. Today she was followed around by an older man making us very comfortable, she even walked around the whole store to avoid him as he was making her uneasy. She made her way to the stairs with a dr Seuss book in hand and I rudly over heard then talking about her reading an $8 book and that he was to tell us to leave. To avoid the confrontation with her I said lets go, confused she got up put the book away where she found it and we proceeded to leave. They then accused her of stealing the book and telling us this isnt a library. At this point my daughter is in tears and confused. We come here every time she visits. The other old man continued on about the same thing. Then a lady who worked there walked up apologizing asking us to please come back when she works and he was just in a bad mood.We will never return here. Thankful for The Book Seller downtown for welcoming us to read and ponder without judgement and accusations. We bought a wonderful book and will be returning.

Great book store. Decent prices. Tons of interesting stuff. Staff was very nice and very helpful for the most part. Grouchy lady at the front desk. I asked to use the bathroom and she made me feel like I was out of line. She also seemed disrespectful to the gentlemen working there, both of whom were very pleasant and knowledgeable. Otherwise, an enjoyable experience.

Please don’t come here if you are a person of color. I have been coming here mostly with my boyfriend and today I decided to come alone. I have entered the store various times and actually have a hefty collection of books. I wanted some kindergarten level books for my class. I entered the store and was immediately told that I had to put my bag in the front. I was taken back since I always brought the SAME bag in over and over again. Another (Caucasian) woman entered the store and was not told to bring their bag up. I was confused. I was watched the whole time. I will never shop there again. Which is unfortunate, the manga collection was my favorite.

The atmosphere is cute but thats about it for pros. They extremely mark the prices up for consignment books. One book that still had a $4 sticker from goodwill they listed as $16. Its also extremely difficult to find books youre looking for with them being stacked everywhere. Its probably a fire hazard.

One of, if not the best used bookstores in town. I love coming in to see what vintage and rare books they have. The selection is big, so plan on spending some time. The restrooms for customers are clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and they also have a multitude of selections for children and teens, including a whole room devoted just to YA. There used to be a cafe attached, and I wouldnt object if they brought something like that back. I love the concept they bring to the community, and I only suggest bringing more liveliness into their outdoor/patio section. Music, coffee, more places to sit and ponder etc...

They have an innumerable amount of books here. I walked in and I felt like I was at a library in Hogwarts or that one from beauty and the beast. Shelves upon shelves of antique, used, new, modern informative fantasy every genre imaginable! I was also able to find a pristine gold edition of the original star wars movies on VHS. An incredible find to say the least. I would highly recommend this secret store.

What a marvelous place. It continues to be a destination for me.. The joy I receive from walking the aisles of bookshelves is matched by the finds of special books. I cant get out without an armload of treasures to take back home, or give as gifts. This place is amazing!

I love bookstores. I particularly love used bookstores. I especially love used bookstores with stacks and stacks of tomes of all kinds, and Booktown is one of the best examples of this kind of store.A dozen (or more?) vendors have stalls crammed with books of all ages and types, from collectable to new, from folios to picture books to paperbacks and more. There are treasures in every corner!As is often the case in co-op stores and antique malls, the pricing can be all over the place, but if the item you need seems too expensive, keep looking and youre bound to find another copy for less.CDs, LPS, and other media gems are available here as well. The staff on hand may change from day to day, but whoever has been there has always been able to answer my questions and point me to the section (or two, or three) that Im looking for.The only problem I have with this store is getting all the books I buy to fit in my car!

Awesome selection of books! Found a few I needed, and some I wanted:) It would be cool if they took the goodwill price tags off the books. The one I picked up said $2.99 and I was stoked, then went to pay and the book was actually $8. I know they are in the business of making money, but don’t tell me how much your making off me, lol.

I havent had the problems with service that the other reviewer noted, but I havent been there in a few months either, so perhaps things have gone downhill since I was last there. I hope not. In any case, this secondhand bookstore consists of a great number of small sections, each owned by a different seller. In total, there are a lot of books in the store. But, since each section is separately curated and closely managed, there arent many deals to be found. Still, all in all, an interesting lot of books.

Booktown Books is one of the best bookstores in Northern California, if not the best. It is a co-operative run by eleven people, most of whom are very knowledgeable about books. From the other reviews Ive read, those three guys just picked a bad day to come in. Most of the dealers are very polite, friendly and helpful. They dont hang over your shoulder and bug you, they let you look as long as you like, and they never, ever tell you to buy something or get out! If that happens to you, ask the offenders name then please go to the counter and report it or call the store on some other day and talk to someone other than the offender. Dont put it online and drive customers away from the only really great bookstore in town.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this bookstore! It is a bookstore co-op so there are many different booksellers with sections/rooms and a wide variety of subject matter. If you dont find what youre looking for, you can leave a note in the book at the counter. Each bookseller checks this and will let you know if they have it off site or may be able to find a copy and will bring it in for you! They have used and new books, comics, graphic novels and audio books. One room has records, cds and tapes also. Its full of treasures and is a bookworms delight! 🌟💖

I love this place. Books, upon books, upon books. All genre, and then some. They do consignment so there is a bit of overlap, but they have LOTS of specialty sections and many volumes in those sections. Records and tapes, DVD and audiobook too. Old books (my favorite to hunt), rare books, unique, classic, modern favorites. Staff is knowledgeable, if not friendly. Pleanty of parking, usually.

Upon walking into Booktown Books, an older lady at the counter was arguing loudly about her convoluted ideas about American politics. I perused the books for over an hour looking for a couple specific books. As I was getting ready to check out, a gentleman walked in looking for books on a specific subject. The same lady told him a couple sections where they could be found, and I having just browsed through these same shelves, told him that a certain shelf had a lot of the books on said subject. Then the lady proceeded to growl at me and spoke to me in an extremely harsh and rude voice to the effect of: Dont tell our customers where they can find the books theyre looking for! I have spent hours looking through various sections and knew exactly where he would find the books he might want. I can only assume that she is greedy and wanted the gentleman to buy from her section, and not look through the awesome and amazing section that I pointed him to. I have been coming to this book store for years, and sadly, I think I will be shopping elsewhere from now on.

This is a great Bookstore for the whole family, I love older books and this shop has some books over 300 years old. There are 9 vendors in this shop and the ones I have met so far are really nice and in good spirits.

As a book scanner, we rescue books to re-sell on the internet to people, many who may be house-bound for whatever reason (COVID, medical condition, live in a rural area or for no reason at all). This business refused to allow us into their store with a book scanner, saying we are unethical and rude, due to one bad experience they had. They discriminated against us, shame on them.
