We have been to several of these throughout So Cal. The food is always great. I love the Oysters Rockefeller and the Goat Cheese grits and get them every time. The clam chowder is one of the best I have had. The Mediterranean Ahi Salad was a bit bland. The lobster roll is very good but standard. The only bad part today was the unhappy employees. Maybe its not a great place to work? The girl that sat us was just a downer with no smile and you could feel the bad attitude. The waiters were not bad, but not engaging, no energy or smiles. We wont go back to this one, there are several of these around. Try the one in Carlsbad, the people there were energetic and happy. The one in Redondo Beach is wonderful as well. Too bad because Newport is close by. Its worth the drive to go where you feel wanted.

Im not a fish person. Or a $30 for some chicken person. But this is where my family wanted to go. I was happy that it didnt smell fishy and they had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The bread was very crunchy, but good. Needed to be better cut though. The coconut Margarita had almost no coconut flavor besides the rim, so that was kinda disappointing. The chicken looked a lot better than it tasted. It wasnt bad, but it wasnt worth the cost. Even with all the toppings it had very little flavor and was very fatty. The scalloped potatoes also didnt have much flavor. The risotto was amazing however. If I was to go back I would just order a plate of that. My family got a appetizer of octopus and it was a very large portion and also came with potatoes. The kids meals are a very big size and served bento-box style.

The Bluewater Grill is on a little inlet in Newport Beach. It has great seafood.Theres paid street parking and valet parking. We came earlier than the usual lunch time. The place was fairly empty when we arrived, but there were only two empty parking spots. We used the valet parking lot. The place filled up after we arrived. I cant figure out where all those people parked their cars.I had a fishermans platter consisting of fried shrimp, fried scallops, and fried cod along with french fries and coleslaw. It was delicious.The view from the terrace, all those boats docked nearby, is pleasant.The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. Service was friendly and efficient. I enjoyed my meal, and I recommend the Bluewater Grill.

Keeping with the excellence of other Bluewater Grill locations Ive tried (Temecula and Carlsbad), Newport Beach is also a strong showing. Friendly and attentive service, lively and elegant atmosphere, most of all - delicious food. A dependable destination for quality seafood and service. 2hr street parking right outside the entrance for $4 (if available), no-limit valet parking for patrons in a large adjacent lot for $7. Both options are simple and convenient on a weekday lunch. Highly recommended.

Fantastic place on the peninsula a little bit out of the way and so I think people tend to forget about it like me lol but gosh the food is so good and the staff is outstanding many have been there for years and years.This is definitely a neighborhood hang out too and the happy hour is Monday through Thursday so keep that in mind but there’s a lot of really good specials on happy hour.Brick chicken – I am obsessed with this dish. It’s a lot of food. I ate it for dinner and then had it for lunch the next day. The scallop potatoes are to die forBread service - this is just the kind of bread that you hope for nice and crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. Delicious.

Great location by the docks with views of the water and yachts. The restaurant wasn’t too busy for a Saturday at noon, we were able to sit outside as requested. Everyone loved their food. I had the seafood Louie salad and that was amazingly fresh.Overall, we were very pleased with our service, and can highly recommend.

Online said they do parking validation. However, that wasnt an option, Valet parking is $6, and we had to walk further to the valet stand than we would have had to get to the car.I took my parents from England for their anniversary, we hadnt made a reservation but they did sit us immediately. Our server (Riley) was friendly and helpful when asking questions and making recommendations for us.The crab cake appetizer was good (you get 2 small crabcakes per serving) the food presentation is good but unfortunately, this is where the good review stops, the fish and chips was not good, the oil was clearly too hot for frying as the beer batter hadnt fully cooked on the inside and was over done on the outside, the fries were also overdone so hard and crunchy. The Butterfish cod was cooked very well. However, the coconut rice it is served with didnt taste of anything, and the remaining dish wasnt even seasoned. The miso glaze had some flavor but was a very runny consistency almost watered down. The swordfish was the best of the three.Service was extremely rushed. We hadnt even finished the appetizers before they sent out the mains. The server practically threw down the plates and then started clearing plates without asking before all of us had finished our meal.Overall, its fine for a quick meal and if you dont mind being rushed. The quality is okay, but not worth the prices they charge.

Stopped by here for lunch based on a friend’s recommendation after arriving in Baltimore from Cali. I was mainly interested in crab cakes so based on the server’s recommendation we ordered the seafood combination plate which comes with a lobster tail, shrimp and scallops and a decent sized crab cake.Every thing was well prepared and tasted pretty good. The crab cake however was a bit bland, had too much breading and only contained lump crab, the amount of breading was somewhat overwhelming, I actually had to pick through it and left most of the breading on the plate.The Brussels sprouts were steamed and tasted good but after having tried roasted Brussels sprouts I no longer care for them steamed.

Service was really bad, extremely slow, and inattentive. Took us almost an hour to put in our main entree orders. Food was mostly good flavor wise, but everything was cold cold cold, like it was left sitting out maybe? I’m not sure. For the prices I expected more, or at the very least slightly warm food. Kids pasta came out hot, but everything else from the french fries to the crab cakes and swordfish and dirty rice literally all cold. I like the location. I just feel like everything all together was mediocre.

Our dinner at Blue water Grill was excellent! Everyone was happy with their order. Our little one loves salmon so I shared the Norway salmon and he got fries. This was such a cute place! Im so glad we found it. We didnt have a reservation, but they were kind to accommodate ua. The hostesses were very sweet with a cute personality. Great ambiance and fresh fish. We all ate different things and we all loved it. Some of their dishes are fresh catch of the day! All of food was delicious. It was a great place to even order non fish/seafood dishes. Gorgeous view!

Would absolutely go back. I had swordfish for the first time and it was delicious!! My wife I believe had the Mahi Mahi which was also quite delicious, but we agreed the seasoning on the swordfish was better. Shrimp cocktail was great. Drinks were cold and tasty. Not to crazy on price. Place and utensils were clean. Hospitality was great. Will definitely go back if ever I decide to brave that state again.

First time trying this place, not disappointed. The fish was cooked just right, although the lemon pepper mahimahi didnt have much of the lemon pepper flavor I was expecting. The misoyaki butterfish was good. The clam chowder was good with lots of clam strips, they didnt use the little clams in the shells, instead they used larger clams sliced into strips, good taste. I do recommend stopping in if youve never been here before.

We had reservations (recommended) because this is a popular spot (lots of locals) and super busy during holidays. Staff friendly. Specialty drinks (Cosmo)very good. Horrible beer selection. Don’t sit outside on cold nights (the heaters don’t work that well and the food gets cold very fast) Speaking of food, mediocre at best. Fisherman’s plate (too much breading so couldn’t taste shrimp, fish or scallops), Gumbo got cold quick in the cold. The Cajun dish was OK. I guess don’t believe the pictures online or we went on a bad night (too busy). Oh well 😞

Yummy place to get lunch at on a beautiful day. They have delicious bread that they bring you to start your meal. If you plan on having a large party I would recommend calling and making a reservation. They do have a lot of seating outdoors which makes it great to bring your doggie to dine with you. They have a good amount of paid parking around it. The food is very yummy and they have a full bar and lots of fun beach/ocean themed drinks. The menu has such a wide variety, Im sure there is something for everyone!

I don’t write many reviews, but this was such a massive failure, I hope to help someone else avoid our experience. The location is great, and the service was good. However, aside from the oysters (which were great), all of our prepared food was just bad. Not, “not great,” but bad. My son’s sanddabs looked like a “pile of cat food,” (his words), and while it wasn’t terrible tasting, it wasn’t good. It just tasted like salted, fishy mush, mixed with the “scalloped potatoes.” I had the “spicy” ahi tuna, which was also fine itself (except the one end of that was filled with cartilage and inedible), but it was served in a pool of flavorless, thick brown gravy (presumably the “miso butter sauce”). My wife’s Mahi Mahi (that she ordered grilled) was tasteless with literally no seasoning. The two kids meals were a marked steps down, and tasted like they were out of a can. All the food was (at best) cafeteria quality, and for a regional chain, I’m just blown away. How is this place POSSIBLY rated in the mid-4s?We ended up getting food from a place nearby, after dropping over $250 on this absolutely throw away meal.

Went here to celebrate a birthday party. The food was delicious. I had the shrimp cocktail and calamari as appetizers. Both were very good. As a main, I had the butter fish, and it was excellent. It was well seasoned, and it melted in your mouth. The service was excellent. And its always nice sitting near the water. Overall, I would recommend trying. Unfortunately I didnt the pictures of the food

We had a family reunion here for lunch on a Saturday. We wanted to seat outside and even though they said it wasnt guaranteed at the time of reservation, they honored it. They food is always good here and we had a very prompt and patient server as we had a couple of children and an elderly uncle with us. Great experience.

Definitely recommend! Service was kind and patient with our large group. We celebrated a bride to be and they provided a complimentary dessert! We enjoyed the calamari and the crab and artichoke dip for appetizers and bread is provided for the table. I had the Lemon pepper mahi mahi with a glass of chardonnay (was recommended by the waiter). All tasted fantastic! Our entire group enjoyed their meals.The restaurant is right next to a harbor and had beautiful views and the atmosphere was fantastic! Indoor and outdoor seating options. There is bar seating options as well. The restaurant is decorated with fun pictures and displays to read about.

We stopped by at Bluewater after a meeting Sunday afternoon. The environment was amazing, being seated next to the water is always a plus at any seafood restaurant. The drinks were definitely filled with alcohol, they do not take shortcuts - huge plus. My wife got the Sangria and I got the Fisherman’s Bloody Mary (wasn’t my favorite). The Sangria here is Excellent and again, they don’t skimp out on the alcohol.We got the lobster roll and the swordfish special. The bread on the lobster roll was soft, and perfectly paired with the lobster; however, based on experience the roll could use a bit more butter and fresh chives. Nonetheless it was pretty good.The sword fish was really flavorful, and cooked to the right degree.The 3 stars come from 2 factors:1. The service was brutal. We waited quite sometime for a server to acknowledge us, drink refills came once despite an hour long visit. And checkout duration took over 10 mins.2. Although seasoned very well, The lobster was slightly stale. Given that this establishment is of seafood category, one puts higher standards for seafood freshness.

Atmosphere and food are fantastic. Lobster roll was robust and the clam chowder was spot on. Kids menus are a great selection, with many kid friendly healthy options (edamame and strawberries? YAY!). They’re served bento box style which is fun. $12 for kids meal seemed high to us at first but it was very nice portions and the drink and sides were included. Patio area is comfortable and the restaurant is welcoming and family friendly. Mai tai was delicious and fresh!

Service was pretty good, but the food wait time was excessive. What’s worse, 2 of our meals came out undercooked while another was underwhelming.The lobster bisque has an odd beer like after taste, it wasn’t even one we wanted to finish eating.The burger came out raw, though requested medium. We had salmon that was half cooked and half undercooked. The sides on multiple platters were cold as well.Overall, not something I would feel the need to come back and visit soon.

What a great location !!! A perfect place for many occasions. You can have a great family dinner or a romantic date here. It is right next to the harbor and the view of the sunset was breathtaking. The place is pretty big but seating outside in the patio is highly recommended. The food was just ok. Not too good not too bad.

Seniors seem to like it for the lack of taste. Description of Cioppino is a zesty broth.... NOT! Seafood mixture is most likely frozen bagged. Red fish was correctly done but the scalloped potatoes were cold. $12 for kids menu items that were pasta and sides is obviously used to pay for their waterfront location. I guess if you expect less you can be satisfied here.

The only reason i gave this place a low rating is because I do not eat seafood and the menu only has about 3 items that are non seafood items.(chicken platter, steak platter and a burger) if you like seafood then i definitely recommend this place! Based on the people I was with, they said the fish tastes so fresh. The portions are huge and their drinks are delicious. The restaurant is right on the port and you get to see so many yachts arounds the area.

Great food, fun and classic bay themed decor, staff and service was friendly and quick despite being the busy time in the evening.The views werent that great seeing as there were massive ships and yachts docked in front of the restaurant but the space still felt roomy. Maybe others in different parts of the restaurant had better view of the Bay or what have you. Would definitely go there again though.They also have valet for $4 and the guys were great and really fast.

UPDATE: Returned after a Christmas light boat ride. We shared a Caesar salad. We both had the orange walnut crusted Halibut. We substituted coconut rice for scallop potatoes. The food was very good.Good Food! This place never disappoints. We stop here when in Newport Beach. Clam chowder is great! Halibut and black cod are fantastic attic. They are always busy. Staff is friendly and efficient. We’ve always had a good experience here.

This was my first time at the Blue Water Grill but my father has been there many times. I have always wanted to try it and today my dad had an appointment at Hoag so after, we went for lunch. First off, when I pulled up to the valet the young man was extremely friendly and assisted my father by getting his walker out of the trunk, helping him out of the car and even made a menu suggestion of the Sand Dabs.We walked into the restaurant and were greeted and immediately seated by the host. Our waiter promptly came and brought fresh, hot sourdough bread and got our drink order. When he brand our drinks we ordered. My dad had the calamari steak lunch with french fries and I ordered the Rockfish with a tomato sauce over what seemed to be parmigian gritts. It also came with planks fried artichoke. I also got a cup of New England Clam Chowder.My soup and entree were amazing! My dads lunch was delicious x. The rockfish was super fresh and the flavors were balanced perfectly. Yesterday ( Friday April 12, at around 12:30 PM), we went to bluewaters. The place was good, food is divine. I had a lobster tail and was delicious. I thought the soup was a bit cold, but nonetheless it was also delicious. The waiter was not attentive enough to help us go through the menu. After all it was our first time. Other than that everything was going well with the service, food, and the nice views from where we were setting. When it came to paying the bill ($84.58), I asked the waiter ( old guy, tall, with glasses) to bring the machine to the table, he said he had to take the credit card to the cashier ( inside the restaurant, and we were setting outside). I left him a tip of $12.00 cash ( 14% of the bill).On the same night (9:01 PM when I was sleeping in my bed) someone used my Credit card at a nearby Orange County College (OCC) bookstore for the amount of ($33.94). OCC is less than 10 minutes away from the restaurant; Weird coincidence ( and I don’t believe in coincidences.I called the bank and stopped the transaction.It’s an ok place to eat at, but be careful to insist on them bringing the machine to you or you be physically present when they use the machine to charge on your credit card.

The environment was nice. Just the regular restaurant with a nice aesthetic that is supposed to compensate for the food. Just to start, the waitress didn’t write down any of the 6 orders. When we all finished ordering, she repeated it back to us but couldn’t remember one of them so she asked again. We got two burgers and asked for medium and medium rare, both were well done, there was absolutely no pink. The oysters just tasted like it was in a bucket of ocean water that they picked up 5 mins ago. We were a table of six and only got one serving of bread. We looked around and tables of 2 got the same amount of bread. we asked for the heaters to be turned on, the guy only “turned on” one. We were still really cold so we asked someone else to turn on the other one. Turns out the first guy didn’t even turn on the only one he said should be on. Thankfully the second guy actually lit up both.

I understand the shortage of labor etc, but they do need to get their basics right in terms of menu, basic hygiene and service mentality.The dishes we got were good as before. Clam chowder is the best. At minimum, get a cup. Or get a bowl to go. Midweek not crowded. Certainly one of the nicest seafood restaurants around.

We were on Balboa Island vacationing from the Midwest and, in search of fresh seafood at a waterfront location, thought wed try Bluewater Grill on a Monday evening for dinner. We were seated at a nice outdoor table with boats docked next to us after a 10-minute wait at the bar (during which we were not served). The minutes passed and we never saw a person from the staff. The place was active but not extraordinarily busy. After a little over 20 minutes at the table, it became pretty clear to us that the service wasnt going to meet our expectations so we decided to leave. We informed the host, who responded, OK. No explanation or apology was warranted, apparently. From the reviews, the food is quite good here - it needs to be if the service we received was any indication of their usual standard.

This is a beautifully design local stop. Regularly my husband and I drop in for appetizers, cocktails and dinner. Come alone, sit up at the bar, or dine with friends. The food is always excellent.

If I could give more than five stars I would have. Freshest scallops, so tasty it lingers on your mouth (we actually ordered this twice). The crab and shrimp Louie salad is to die for, so clean and fresh. Ambience is tops, especially during a bright and warm summer day. Sitting by the boats and enjoying brunch or dinner. Service is awesome and very attentive personnel.

Great location. Right by the water and the marina. Actually can come by boat. They have great dreams and the selection of the seafood art is great I do recommend the calamari and also the muscle dish as an appetizer. The branzino was very nice also the striped sea bass was very good. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend for nice seafood and relaxation with very great drinks.

The food and service was good. The issue was with the manager. She was extremely rude when we were paying. There were approximately 35 people and we needed at least nine separate groups of bills. She told us that she didnt care and it was our responsibility to break it up. It was very confusing for all of us and could have been very easy for her. Just extremely disappointed and will not ever be returning.

Read this whole review, this is not a food based review. My entire family came here after my grandmothers memorial at sea. After confusion, to put it lightly about how the bill would be split for a party of 30 or so, the manager came out and was extremely rude to my mother and spoke to her like a child. This Manager handled this extremely poorly, no one should be spoken to the way she spoke to my mother, especially after she just got done laying her mother to rest. Shame on the manager. I do want to also acknowledge that our waiter was not the issue and would like to apologize to him because he unfortunately got the brunt of my anger towards his manager with quite a few swear words.

Went with some friends from NJ. Great location on the water. Excellent clam chowder. Everyone enjoyed the food. We had a combination of both fish and meat dishes but all really good. Not upscale but nice enough for out of town guests. Feels kind of New England like

Absolutely wonderful experience here. Our waitress was brash but thoughtful, as I suppose you may need to be for working on the water front. People can get out of hand. The food was delicious, my first time eating Swordfish and it was incredible! The mud pie was phenomenal as well! May have even been sitting across from an actress, which my gf was quick to realize upon walking up to the table. The best part? Was able to get a Mud Pie, after all!! 🙌 will definitely be back next time we are in town!

This was quite yummy. I ordered the wrong thing though. I got Calamari Steak and I didnt think it had any flavor. I also ordered 50/50 Clam Chowder and it was fantastic! My boss got Sand Dabs and he really enjoyed them. The restaurant is lovely, right on the water. A good place for a date!

Casual waterfront, marina vibe very popular for lunchtime. Had lunch on the outside deck. Nice view of marina. Prompt service, good selections of fish, seafood with a smattering of neat dishes. Wonderful Manhattan clam chowder,. As entre had the trout.with sides, a mixed squash medley of veggies and home style fries. I did not choose the accompanying sauces . Had the trout plain and it lacked flavor but cooked to perfection. Added lemon juice, it was great. Enjoyed the atmosphere and meal and service was efficient. Good place for a nice meal with friends, family or social occasion. Only 4 stars because a bit pricey. Otherwise very nice.

First time to Bluewater grill . I was really disappointed especially after reading and hearing how great the place was . Unfortunately I did not have a great experience . I was totally embarrassed after suggesting to my guest and family that we have dinner there . The service was not that great, the waiter was nice but I am not too sure if they were too busy to attend to their tables. We had a child that was given a kids menu however the two entrées we ordered which was a cheeseburger slider or a steak stick we were told they did not have the waiter then pretty much ordered what he thought the child should eat due to I guess not having the items that were on the menu . We were also seated outside and it became windy and the temps drop and we requested a patio heater which was brought over but the staff could not actually get it to work . The food arrived and one guest ordered a plain well done sirloin Burger and two guest ordered fish n chips . The burger came dressed with mayonnaise and was undercooked one of the guest that Ordered fish and chips one of the pieces of fish was Raw and not cooked. We did request it for a manager due to the fact that the fish was not cooked and how dangerous that was for someone to consume. The manager was nice enough to apologize but once she removed the fish to take it back to the chef she came back with the explanation of the chef stating that that the fish had a bloodline going through it so it was not raw it had a pink color and the fish could not be cut with a knife . Unbelievable and scary at the same time. I probably would have given them another chance to do better but after the chef’s explanation there is no way I would ever recommend them to anyone . Yes they adjusted the check but did not make a difference there is no dollar amount that could make up for the embarrassment and the upset stomach after we left.

Bluewater Grill has been a favorite for years. The update is perfect and cheerful.The food as always is good; however, there crab Louie salad was underwhelming with a small amount of Dungeness crabmeat, the crab cakes were good too. Ill go back to my go to oder of steamed mussels, hopefully that remains the same.The 5-star belongs to the sourdough bread.The Staff is top notch.

Great food and good atmosphere. Im not usually a fish person, but I had the blackened swordfish with sweet salsa... fantastic! The service was great. The person who helped us went through the entire menu and explained everything in detail. Highly recommended.
