Amazing care! Professional, animal loving staff and experienced, competent, compassionate doctors who spend time, explain and support, call back and understand my cats health is important to me. I never felt rushed and my concerns were always addressed. Grateful for their care and service.

My experience at Blue Cross Vet Hospital has been excellent! The staff did a great job with communication and getting a full history of my cats health. The doctor was friendly and took his time with me and talked me through all the details. I wish that I could be present for the exam, but ultimately that wasnt a dealbreaker because my cat came back fully relaxed and he was even calm enough during the exam for the doctor to hear his heart at a resting state! Hes often too anxious for that during vet visits. For me, the location is a huge plus, especially since my cat hates car rides. The exam price is on the higher end ($84), but matches the quality of service and the extent of testing, treatments, and services available as a full service hospital. They also offer first time patients a discount (-$21) right now. I dont know about the costs of their other services, but their full blood panel ($180) and urinalysis (70), as well as cardiac ultrasound with a traveling cardiologist ($765) are reasonable compared to other hospitals in the area. Most importantly, I trust them with my cat Charlie, who is precious to me. Ive been to a lot of hospitals and would only say the same for about half of them. I trust the quality of care he will receive here and the knowledge and compassion of the doctors, techs, and assistants.

The staff here cared for my animals in ways i’ve always wished other vets would. They are responsive, they make sure you understand your pets diagnosis’s, they provide unprompted courtesy follow up calls to check on your animal after the visit. They are all very kind and knowledgeable and they are more than just excellent professionals, they are genuinely kind human beings.

I am so happy that I changed vets to Blue Cross. The attention and extra care and concern they give my dog is something most responsible pet owners looks for. This is my dogs favorite place to go. They are very nice to him and I really like this vet. Ive taken him too many other vets before and they were terrified of him because he is a pitbull but they treat him like he is a puppy he is here.

We have been loyal customers of Blue Cross Veterinary Hospital since we adopted a rescue Cat from the street. We spent several thousand dollars in his treatment. But today that we need a vet because our older rescue Cat is not doing well, they refused to give us 10 minutes of their time. When I begged for a 10 minutes the guy at the front said “not to guilt trip him .How is advocating for your loved one in an emergency guilt tripping? What happened to the kindness they showed when they took our credit card for past services.The honesty and humanity of a business whose service is to care for those that dont have a voice and we love as pets come true at times like this when they are most needed and one is begging for their beloved pet who is not just an animal it is a life.Dr. Gunter and his staff should show a little more kindness and sympathy not just because it is their job and how they make their income, but also because as humans of diverse backgrounds, they themselves one day ask for the same sympathy and empathy.Dont go to this place.

Its my absolute last visit after 20+ years at Blue Cross Vet. Prepaying for the following weeks appointment - first red flag. Second red flag - without an explanation - my dog is taken from Waiting Room - one customer and no other animals present. After a 25 minute wait, I ask the person at the desk Wheres my dog? Weigh-in/vitals are usually a few minutes. I am told the doctor is examining my dog, privately. This is not standard protocol for vets. Unacceptable separation given my dog is stressed and in pain after sustaining a leg injury and further explanation is essential - not to mention to review general health concerns of a senior dog. I was eventually called into exam room with Dr. Guenther. Still no dog. She assures me my dog has been fine over the period he has been held/examined. Ummm - is it because he doesnt bark? Hes not a stress barker. I dont think you know the nervous system of my pet. He didnt want to get out of the car. He didnt want to go in the entry door. He has good reason to fear vet visits after suffering much trauma in his life. When I again explain this, she repeated that he had been fine. Third red flag - Dr. Guenther was quick to scold me for talking to her staff about the whereabouts of my dog. Never apologizing for her staff neglecting to inform me of what I can only surmise is the continuance of post-covid procedures well after... Illogical protocols! We were also required to wear a non-NC95 mask. Havent we learned they dont work?! Dr. Guenther went on to suggest my dog may need a vet that makes home visits due to his anxiety. I remain confused with this statement. Why, home visits if he was fine for you? I refused medication, X-rays and let Dr. Guenther know I would be taking my pet to another vet to followup. Fourth red flag - now Im back in the Waiting Room and waiting for my dog. I am standing at the counter and see the clock - its been an hour. There are a few staff members working in the back office. Empty Waiting Room. They are completely ignoring my presence. I finally ask what is taking so long (since I had prepaid) and she explains that she is making a copy of my file. As much as I appreciate the gesture, I never asked for a copy, nor was it explained to me what was happening to further delay getting my dog. Email or mail would have sufficed. This is clearly passive aggressive behavior on the part of this employee. I will say we were not greeted with a friendly staff upon entering the building in the first place. Dr. Guenther doesnt radiate much light either. Eventually, I am handed a few sheets of paper and only then is my dog returned to the Waiting Room. He bolted to the exit door - confirming my concerns about his anxiety and further adding stress to his injured front leg. A loyal consumer of local business for the 40 years I have lived in LBC. I no longer feel the need to drive well out of my neighborhood for veterinarian care after leaving with a wagon of red flags.

Wonderful experience at Blue Cross Vet. I was counting on my regular vet for a EU HEALTH CERTIFICATE for my pet to travel to Spain with me this summer and they dropped my appointment last minute on the day of appointment because they had an emergency and only had one person who knew how to do the paperwork. Our friends recommended Blue Cross who took us in last minute, and were very professional and detail oriented in getting this done. Also, Dr. Guenther was super passionate and helpful for our 4 year old doxie. Thank you!

Sage comes here often and I just flew out to the east coast and my vet and the staff were so helpful in making sure she had her last parvo shots and rabies as well as check up! I love blue cross!!! They are so happy to see my baby girl sagiewageee! They even call her by her nickname! She’s a miniature schnauzer and is just a baby! Our first pet Astro had a wonderful exam at Blue Cross. The staff here is wonderful and attentive. The doctors spent a time answering all your questions with patience. Today we are bringing our 2nd baby KIKI. Cannot thank everyone enough for our amazing experience.

**They reported me to the city to pay pet tax** I used to bring my dogs here and felt the care though more expensive than others vets was good. I recently took in an abandoned kitten and after my first visit there was magically a bill from the city that I will now have to pay yearly. They dont need my money and after paying the exorbitant fee here already I very much regret my decision of coming back but I will never return after this.

I have taken my kitties here for years and they are awesome. 😻 Vets & staff are all caring, professional, experienced & communicative. Probably not the lowest cost vet in LB (havent compared since Im happy there), but I trust them completely with the health & wellbeing of my furbabies which is what really matters to me.We do take our kitties to SNPLA in San Pedro for low cost spay/neuter and a couple of vaccines offered. Theyre the largest nonprofit animal welfare org in CA.For anything else, we go to Blue Cross.

Dr. told me they could not examine the cat well because the cat was aggressive. She said she was able to look at her teeth between hisses. This is your number one job. Handle the animal first and properly examine them. When they charge you, they charge you in full, but during exam they have excuses.They also falsify products and try to sell you different brands and communicate you into products you dont need. I fell for the high reviews, but I would avoid them.Update:The business owner tried to answer my review below. I don’t mention the lion cut at all here in my review. This is about the exam you did not do properly. When it comes to the charging the customer, you do that even before the appointment. Your number one job is to handle the animal first, and exam them properly. You cannot tell me that the cat was angry and you did not exam him properly. While you cannot even do that, why would I let you sedate my cat for other services.

The first time I took my kittens there, everyone was friendly and very knowledgeable. They were noticeably friendly and caring to all the animals that came in while we were there. I could tell that Doctor Guenther really loves animals - she was great with the kittens. Her demeanor was very down to earth, and we felt very comfortable with her. I would recommend Blue Cross to other people.

I have been taking my pets to Blue Cross Veterinary for a few years now nd they have always been great. Dr. Guenther, who is the min vet that my dog sees now, is always very friendly, kind, and helpful with any of my pets needs. Likewise, the support staff has always been amazing and great every time I take my pet in. Even though I am now not living in Long Beach, it is well worth the drive to take my dog to a quality vet that I like.

Excellent staff. Dr Sellman & Dr Guenther are just wonderful! Started coming here 3 years ago with my guinea pig waffles and came back with a Great Dane. Yes its pricy but I rather pay and come where I know my pets are safe, taken care of & well loved. The staff is very educated here, I tried 3 places before I called Blue cross. As a new pet parent they were very patient and took their time with me. All the ladies in the front are just awesome with me & my enormous puppy. Dr Guenther is so detailed in explaining things to me. Gives me options & even catches things like if my dog has had her meds. She scolded me. And made it very clear my dogs health is #1 we have not missed a pill ever since. I read some of these reviews and honestly the two people complaining about Dr G & the mean staff.....just plain lies. Angry people who play victims and exaggerate. 3 years coming here Ive never seen anyone here be rude or mistreat anyone or any pet. Ever.

I love all the doctors and staff at BCVH and have taken all my animals there for as long as Ive lived in Long Beach. My pets have always received the best of care, no matter which tech handles them or which doctor I see. Everyone is kind and compassionate, treats you with a smile, and always remembers you and your pets names. They help you through the difficult times as well as the good, and receiving a personally signed card from everyone when I lose one of my pets reassures me of how much they care about me and my pets. I wholeheartedly recommend them, without hesitation, for all your pet care needs.

I have found the entire staff, and all the Drs to be very friendly, helpful and completely honest. They explain everything, never try to talk me into anything, nor try to talk me into extra procedures that are not necessary. Everyone there truly love animals, and are very supportive of the pets Mommys and Daddys too. I would highly recommend them to anyone, with no hesitation!!!

Given our current health and safety restrictions, I think that my experience at BCVH was exceptional. Being able to interface with the staff and meet with Dr. Guenther in person made the difference for us. I have been taking my fur babies to see Dr. Guenther and Dr. Selman for 20 years. I am always pleased with the care the dogs receive in all stages of life.

My dog and I moved here 5 years ago, and Blue Cross Vet Clinic took excellent care of my dog. When he was 12 (his last year) he was treated for pancreatitis and then arthritis, both of which were cured and controlled. when he developed kidney failure while I was out of town, I was called twice a day with a report, and when ultimately, I had to put him to sleep, I have never been treated so warmly, humanely, sympathetically - and so was my dog to the end. The front desk is so wonderful - and all the vets who work there -and their techs - are so knowledgeable and compassionate.If I get another animal companion, I will certainly have him/her cared for at Blue Cross Vets.

I took my 1 year old dog for a check-up last week. The vet clearly explained the condition of my kid. After a test revealed an illness, the vet called me over the holiday weekend to get my kid started on proper medication. The staff are very accommodating and have a true interest in all of the animals. The boarding area looks good and is well-managed.

Let me start from the beginning we walk in with our Cat and the woman at the front desk gives a dirty look to everyone who walks in the door, but then she ends up being nice. Then the staff comes out and wants to take our cat away to weigh and get vitals without us which was a first for us. Our pets are like our children, not going to happen. Then the Dr. Guenther comes in and is totally rude and unprofessional towards my husband who is worried about our cat. He tries to ask questions and she refuses to listen until she finishes her exams! Ugh! Anyways we will never return to this place with any of our pets and we recommend you don’t either. Also they want to take your loved ones away to give shots and they say it is for insurance reason which is BS! Never ever in my life have heard of that!

During this pandemic services can be difficult pretty much everywhere, however, BCV put in place well organized service flows. They have minimal contact while the kiddos go into see the doctor. Communication conducted by phone. The doctor is just as interested and spends the time necessary to discuss concerns as they are in person. I dont feel like they are rushing me. They take good care of my girl!

I have had a relationship with this vet office for more than 16 years. They put to sleep one of our dogs in the most humane way possible. They have cared for our elderly cat and our (recently deceased) dog with the utmost respect and care.The cost is somewhat higher, but I have tried two other vet offices that were less expensive and the care was lacking (Affordable) or the errors were too grievous to ignore (Signal Hill).I will come back when we adopt another dog and I will keep coming back.

Im an animal lover. Weve been going to Blue Cross since we moved to Long Beach over 9 years ago. Theyve helped us with our two VERY senior dogs (age 16 and 17), and when we had to put them down the hospital staff wrote a card and made a donation in our pets names for research. Theyve helped us when we rescued multiple litters of kittens (worms, skin rashes, diarrhea -- you name it!). They helped when a rescue puppy swallowed a bone by taking X-rays every day until we saw that the bone was getting dissolved by stomach acid (thank goodness!).Ive loved every vet weve seen, and cried on their shoulders more than a few times. They have a spot in the back with a sun roof, fountain and fake grass and they feed your dog a last meal and let you cry while your pet enjoys a moment with you in the sunshine before putting them down. They offer a service to cremate your pet and take cast impressions of the animals paw as a keepsake. I have 3 very beautiful wooden boxes with my various pets pawprints, tags, and ashes inside.I read the review that said the vet tried to upsell them on the cost of things. I havent found that to be true. I can easily understand a staff member telling a potential client over the phone the cost of a vaccine, without realizing the client didnt know the vaccination should not be given without a full exam. Some vaccines should not be taken if an animal is sick! I wouldnt give my son the flu vaccine if he had a cold, same goes for animals.Lets face it, going to a doctor is expensive. Going to a vet is going to cost money, too. Id rather go to a vet I trust than try to find somewhere cheaper to go with my beloved friends. After all, my animals are part of my family.

They spend time with the pet owners to give recommendations and advice for better pet care. Ive gone to Blue Cross with my two dogs and cat for about 5 years. Four years ago, I brought my previously healthy dauschund in with what appeared to be severe dehydration. Within 30 minutes, Dr. Sellman had diagnosed her with a critical blood abnormality and developed an initial treatment plan. She ended up being admitted to a critical care hospital for five days and needing almost 6 months of regular medications and follow-up care. Throughout her illness, Dr. Sellman was thorough, thoughtful and compassionate. I credit him with saving her life. Most visits to the vet a pretty standard fare (check-ups, shots, etc.), but it is nice to know that when the need arises, the caring vets at Blue Cross are on top of their game and ready to provide excellent veterinary medical care.

Final Update: My precious dog just died due to lack of proper medical attention as a result of Blue Cross Veterinary Hospital who denied mydog emergency help.UPDATE: My dog has suffered tremendously because these people refused to treat her. I intend to go to the Long Beach District attorney a press criminal animal cruelty charges, as well as Senior abuse to me when they refused to give either me or my pet a drink of water.First off let me say that the people at Blue Cross Veterinary Hospital have obviously buried all of their negative feedback with fake made up glowing tribulations about themselves that are just made up lies, in an attempt for you not to see the truth about them. They are horrible..i intend to tell everyone in my tightknit town of Belmont Shore/Naples about how these evil greedy people ignored me, an elderly person and my dogs critical health issues.What I went through at their clinic located in the ghetto part of Long Beach was appalling.i intend to let all my wonderful friends and fellow dog lovers in belmont shore know what these people did to my dog and to me. i have thousands of dog friends in belmont shore, belmont heights, naples, peninsula, lakewood, and seal beach...they will all get my newsletter denouncing these evil moneygrubbers.These people are loving $$$$$not pets. if you take your dog or cat here you are can expect to be extorted! They have no business being in the animal care business.i am a senior citizen who took the bus to save cab fare! i went to the wrong clinic and i was in a panic with my tiny bloated love of my life who was in severe distress with bloat which is fatal. i walked miles in the heat with my disability. i was so relieved to walk into their clinic to have my dog evaluated. i am a 68 year old senior citizen with an extremely successful business however they assessed me as poor and not worth their time. They immediately said the exam would be $115. i was all for it but then they added that the x rays will be $350 and the surgery $3000...all this and they never even had the vet examine my dog. they refused to have my dog looked at because they discriminated against me because of my age and their assessment of my financial worth. THEY REFUSED TO EVEN EXAMINE MY DOGWhile they said the doctor was too busy, i saw him just sauntering around doing nothing and this was an emergency.i have always had fabulous vets. and this was my first encounter with this kind of evil greed.please i beg you do not go to this vet who discriminates against the aged. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY.i am english and grew up on the fabulous tales of a country vet in yorkshire england James Herriot who wrote...all creatures great and small ...this veterinary clinics motto should be ALL SUCKERS GREAT AND SMALL;As it turns out I have a pet business, I cater fancy gourmet dog menus for many restaurants in Southern California, I intend to spread the word warning my customers not to go to this veterinary hospital for any reason...i give this veterinary clinic 20 thousand thumbs down.

The most important thing you want in a veterinary practice is that the people to care for your animals as if they belong to them. BCVH does that in a professional, caring manner. Weve gone there for years & cant imagine being without their expertise.

I have taken my cats for over 3 years now. Dr. Sellman is amazing! He is the cat whisperer! The staff is amazing and very helpful. I recommend this facility to anyone that loves their animals.

This Veterinary Hospital is over priced on regular services and unequipped to handle emergencies. They charge MORE THAN the ER Vet charges for general Veterinary care...$160 for a 6 hour stay during office hours? $105 for an initial emergency exam? More than $260 for x-rays that were not even usable by an actual ER Vet. DO NOT USE THIS VET. These owners should be ashamed of themselves for the prices they charge and for the lack of service that they provide. When an attempt was made to discuss the exorbitant bill with the lead Vet, she would not come to the phone.

Blue Cross is an excellent vet hospital with caring vets and staff. They provide professional medical care and vaccinations and dont overcharge for services.

I love Blue Cross Veterinary Hospital. The staff is pleasent. The facility is clean. The Doctors are caring and friendly. Not to mention...the prices are fair. Great experience.I have already reffered a couple friends. Try them...I did and I switched...

Brodie just had his yearly shots, and even though he was anxious going in, he came out cool as a cucumber. They wrapped him in a cuddly blanket and brought him to the car, and he has been a contented little guy all day. Thank you!

First off they were punctual!! Do you know how rare that is!! Last time I was at a vets office I waited for an hour past my appointment time. Furthermore they were friendly, professional and prepared for us. I love them.

Watch out for the examination fee. Seems to me they want to charge an exam fee on every visit. Even though Ive been here before for an ongoing health problem with my pet.I felt price gouged. ☹
