Absolutely beautiful property, a classic Bed and Breakfast, Airbnb type places are just not like this today. This home is lovely, like taking a step into history. So many indulgent amenities like a huge variety of teas and always available coffee, cool water and continental breakfast and snacks in the dining room all day. The hosts are delightful, never overbearing but available in the morning and by text. And the breakfasts were chef prepared and fantastic, like dining out every morning. They encourage the guests to share breakfast together and chat, Im not normally social that early but we had a lovely time meeting other travelers. Otherwise its a very quiet place, so cozy! Keep in mind it is a historic old house with all the quirks an old house would have, it is not pristine like a brand new hotel. Make sure your expectations are set (it seems some people dont understand what staying in a home based bed and breakfast is like) and you will love this place as much as we did. Its so close to the south pasadena station so we got here easily from the airport.

We absolutely loved our stay at Bissell House!We were looking for something more charming than a big-box hotel, and Airbnbs have become too much work quite frankly with all of the “rules” that come with them. Bissell House was absolutely perfect – the owners put so much care and thought into the place. I couldn’t stop taking pictures and videos – the whole place was decorated to perfection and made you feel like you were right at home.The complementary breakfast was also incredible! We had a yogurt parfait and French toast. The service was incredible – we didn’t have to lift a finger.I highly recommend Bissell House. It is well worth the price (which honestly wasn’t bad and is comparable to what hotels are today with all of their added fees). I hope anyone who stays there has as magical a time as we did.

The Bissell House offers incredible luxury and attention to detail. It went far beyond our expectations in every way. The staff was very thoughtful and the space was well stocked with conveniences. Breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed chatting with the friendly guests very much. My daughter was delighted by the neighborhood parrots too.

This historic house is an absolute gem at an affordable price. The front porch, grounds, formal dining room, grand piano, wood-lined library/sitting room... all charming. Absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED our one night visit. We stayed in Victorias Room and it was delightful. I literally spent about two hours taking pics of the house including lots of small details that I appreciate (door knobs, leaded glass windows, furnace grates, brass switch plates, wall sconces, exterior brick patterns, shingle patterns, bay windows, dormers...). Located at the south end of the famous Millionaire Row in Pasadena. Also close to several good restaurants (we ate at ARU which I cannot find in a Google Search but which was a magnificent tiny eatery with a SINGLE CHEF who knows how to cook!)Seriously one of the best overnight experiences my wife of 35+ years and I have had.

I made a last-minute reservation at the Bissell House when I shifted my plans to avoid driving during Hurricane Hilary. I arrived late in the evening and was immediately enchanted by the serene property in a beautiful historic neighborhood. I stepped inside to a cozy library lit by a beautiful Tiffany lamp. My room was cozy and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and just the right amount of B&B banter (not overly forced/contrived but very friendly). They were my perfect port in a storm, and I will look forward to coming back and using them as a jumping off point for touring the beautiful architectural haven of Pasadena. Plus I would love to try their pool!

Where to start? As soon as we arrived the lady greeting us left telling us she’d be back to do our breakfast in the morning. We were left as the only two people in this spooky old house.It’s scruffy, desperately in need of an update, decoration and a good clean.To describe it as being in a quiet neighbourhood is ridiculous! If you like to sleep to the sound of V8 engines roaring up and down the very busy road you’ll be happy. Otherwise, like me, you’ll be awake all night believing a window is open. When you go to close it you’ll find all the dead wasps on the window sill.The house is very dark, as they keep the blinds down to keep the heat out. This is because the air conditioning is almost as old as the house and almost as noisy as the cars.By the time morning came I had booked us into another hotel for our remaining nights. I was assured they would refund the two nights I had not stayed. They kept this pretence up for weeks, as I type it’s now been two months. They are never going to refund me!!It was a truly awful stay and I was completely mislead by the positive reviews. Where on earth do they come from?

I love the Bissell Hiuse! This was my second stay at this charming, cozy and comfortable home. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Bliss was coming down early to read fhe daily papers by the Christmas tree with fire burning! Breakfasts were elegant and delicious. Library was stocked with books and magazines and sunlight. The gardens are lovely. You can walk to town. Can’t wait to return!! Jane McGrath

Delightful VictorianApril 2023Had a great stay at The Bissell House! The house is beautiful and thoughtfully maintained. The rooms had all the creature comforts and some extras. The living room is like stepping back in time to a warm comforting home in the late 1800s. Enjoyed some delicious brownies with my tea upon arrival. Our morning host each day was Brian who is a fountain of information on the local area and served up a beautiful breakfast. I would highly recommend a stay!Written May 1, 2023

What an incredible gem! There are not many places like this left in the world. Hospitality plus! The thoughtful touches everywhere! The bed is so comfortable in the Garden Suite! I loved the jacuzzi tub and I checked in early to hang poolside! There is a beautiful breakfast spread with gorgeous china for tea service and dining. There is too many fabulous things to note! I hope to come back many times and bring my relatives too. Wow wow. I truly feel restored and inspired. Thank you for having us Bissell House !

Beautiful Victorian home in a very nice neighborhood. Everything we needed for a delicious sleep and welcoming morning. Quiet private environment, shower with quick hot water with excellent water pressure, comfortable bed and bedding, evening beverages available, and fresh hot healthy breakfast.

Delicious breakfast. Great pool. Great piano. Newspapers. Nice library and living room. Was once visited by my great-grandfathers cousin, Albert Einstein, and still keeps the old fashioned style. Very cozy. Its in a beautiful block of mansions.

My husband and I just stayed at Bissell House for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The home is beautiful and immaculately kept. We stayed in the Anna Bissell room which was spacious and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and thoughtfully prepared. It included freshly squeezed orange juice, smoothies, and delicious homemade lemon curd. Will was very accommodating to my request to have a gluten free and dairy free breakfast. It was also VERY hot during our stay, and our room and the house were comfortably cool. Our room had its own air conditioner which was nice. We hope to visit again soon. Thank you for a lovely stay!

I had the loveliest solo staycation at the Bissell House. From the moment I stepped through the door, I truly felt at a home away from home! Exploring the beautiful grounds, reading in the library, and relaxing by the pool were all made even better by the plentiful complimentary tea, coffee, and snacks. I felt transported to a storybook world in the midst of the beautiful vintage furnishings of this historic place. The breakfast available every morning is a delicious, light yet satisfying quiche, croissant, and fruit with fresh squeezed orange juice. I almost didnt feel the need to try out other breakfast spots nearby (and there are lot of great ones in Pasadena)! I had the privilege of staying in the Anna Bissell room, spacious yet cozy with the prettiest view. The bed is probably the most comfortable Ive slept in outside of my own home. Also, despite there being a terrible heat wave this weekend, the individual AC in each room as well as downstairs kept the place so comfortable. I actually felt so sad to leave this place and will find every excuse to return! Thank you Will and Brian for making me feel so welcomed!

The Bissell House was the gorgeous getaway Mom and I needed! The home is stunningly furnished and adorned with antiques do the eye candy is endless. The bed mattresses and linens are luxury quality and we slept so comfortably! The breakfast was lovingly home cooked and served hot and fresh. My one and only wish is that they would install an elevator. The stairs were challenging for my 86 year old mother! After struggling to walk upstairs to her room, Mom urged me not to switch hotels. The beauty and comfort was too hard to say goodbye to!

This bed and breakfast was so dreamy! We stayed here for a one night staycation and I wish we could’ve stayed longer. We came on a hot weekend so we spent most of our day lounging by the pool which was just what we were looking for. We didn’t need to do anything for check-in, our key was already in our room. We also spent the evening sitting in the library (which is beautiful) going through the books, they also have board games. We also spent some time sitting on the large front porch watching the hummingbirds. There are so many little nooks to lounge including the poolside pergola or in the living room which has tea, treats, drinks for sale, and even a complimentary shot of whiskey. We stayed on the third floor and our room was huge with a ton of character, I love the big windows. On a hot day there was AC to keep the room comfortable, although the bathroom was warm since it was in direct afternoon sunlight. There were also snacks and drinks for purchase in the room. Breakfast was also great in the dining room, we had French toast with fruit. Staying here was an experience and made us feel at home, we’d definitely stay here again.

This bed and breakfast has all that you need for a couple’s getaway! Romance, cleanliness, coziness and wonderful snacks, drinks and of course breakfast. We stayed in the Prince Albert room and loved wandering the grounds, having tea, cuddling up with games and enjoying the claw foot tub. My better half loved this surprise trip so much he suggested making it a tradition. We will most definitely be back! Thank you Bissell House.

The Bissell House was warm & welcoming when we arrived. Tea, cookies and chocolates were found in the living room and coffee in the dining room. Because we had an early start the next day, a take-out breakfast was set out for us, delicious croissants, fresh fruit and breakfast bars. The second day, we were served a delicious full breakfast. We enjoyed every moment of our stay. We shall return.

We stayed at Bissel House B&B for one night during our trip to LA in early August. It was one of the most wonderful living experience we ever had, totally different with living in a regular hotel.First of all, perfect location to all the places we plan to go, including Huntington garden, Caltech and LA downtown. And the house is located in a community, so it is more like a home environment and we lived at ease. Secondly, fabulous amenities. My daughter had a great time swimming and playing in the backyard pool. They also have barbecue grill by the pool available. The complementary afternoon tea and cookies are provided in the living room. We also enjoyed the piano and books & games in the library. Also, free parking and homemade breakfast are included. Breakfast was awesome, with fresh and organic ingredients. During breakfast time, we found out that Albert Einstein was invited to this house and had dinner together. How fun!Finally, room and service. We booked Morning Glory Room, which is on the 3rd floor, with windows facing the road in front of the house, Orange Grove. Since its the top of the house, it gets pretty hot in the afternoon. But they had put a portable air-conditioning inside to help cool down the room temperature. It does help but I kind of dont like the noise it makes. Also, traffic noise along the main road outside is annoying to me late at night, but my husband was all right with it. Maybe we will try a different room on the other side of the house next time. Other than that, everything is great! Beds are comfortable to sleep in, room is clean, and I even feel in love with the personal care products they choose. And the host Will and other people working there are super friendly and helpful. The thing that impressed us the most is that they care what we need and always willing to help. Great service I would say.Omg, I couldnt believe that I have wrote so much to review a place we stayed in for just one day. But its my true feeling. We will definitely come again when there is a chance.

What a lovely and relaxing experience I had at the Bissell House. Came here to get away for the night and explore the Pasadena area and visit the incredible museums in the area. The Norton Simon and The Huntigton Gardens are my favorite.I loved the amazing tea selection that was offered with fresh cookies, and all the other “extras” like a full cereal bar in case you’re still hungry after their very impressive and delicious breakfast. Or their sipping whiskey that’s offered in the living room, I sipped mine after I got back after dinner and it was delightful. Sweet, cozy and comfortable home feel with the fireplace going and the fresh flowers perfectly placed around the home, I notice the small details as I enter places, and that was a sweet touch.I stayed in the Prince Albert room with a glorious bath tub and noticed the luxe toiletries, which included a lavender bath bomb. I had the most incredible sleep on one of the most comfortable mattresses and pillows I’ve slept on in a long time.However my most favorite part, and I said it above was how decadent and delicious the breakfast truly was. Wow! From the fresh squeezed OJ from their own trees, to the quiche that was so good I had to get the recipe and of course try to remake it... but I’ll just come back hopefully soon to have it again since mine was not as fluffy as they made it.I just loved this place so much, it felt like a warm inviting home that you don’t want to leave and can’t wait to come back to.Thank you for an incredible visit, I simply loved my stay!

It is close to our destination and simple walking distance from the gold line. I had dinner plans at a restaurant in South Pasadena. On a whim, I decided to book an overnight stay at this charming bed and breakfast. Great decision! An even better decision would have been to stay the entire weekend. The house is beautiful and lovingly maintained. I stayed in Victorias room on the 2nd floor, which was very cosy and comfortable (probably not the best choice for tall people). And the room had its own adjustable A/C which was wonderful during this current heat wave! Fantastic breakfast by Veronica (special thanks for the tasty chia pudding in lieu of yogurt!). Lovely stay! I felt the hosts thought of many details to make our stay as pleasing as possible, down to door pillows to keep the light from the hallway getting into the room at night. Amenities were fantastic in the rooms and in shared spaces. Bissel House is a real treat for all.

I was a little concerned when I arrived and found my room, The Anna Bissell room, faced Orange Grove avenue. I thought perhaps road noise overnight would make it difficult to sleep, nothing could be further from the truth. I heard no traffic and slept like a baby on the ultra comfortable bed. A bed even more comfortable than my high end Purple mattress. Awesome water pressure from the 19th century pipes and the hottest water I have felt in years. If you struggle daily with hot water and suddenly find yourself with consistent and controllable high hot water pressure you know what I mean. The shower was heavenly. The house is absolutely stunningly gorgeous.Outside the house, the grounds are beautifully kept and I particularly enjoyed the early morning chaos created by the red crested Amazon parrots. I knew nothing about these amazing birds and ended up watching a documentary on them while I ate breakfast.

Which says something about her breadth after eight tripsWill, who maintains the property, is very welcoming and had always assisted me with questions about the property. Including helping me get set up to the wifi which was plenty fast enough for video conferencing when work requiredAbout the House: Bissell House is located close to downtown South Pasadena so I walk almost anywhere when I visit. If I choose not to walk, everything is a short uber/lyft ride.When you arrive, you’ll be received by a beautiful porch and enter through a big craftsman door. History enthusiasts will love the decor and nautical enthusiasts will love the house’s library which always has the most recent yachting magazines.The rooms have a very Victorian feel with antique furniture. The house is true to form and doesnt pretend to be something it isn’t. Bissell is the real deal.I’ve stayed in several different rooms. Each has a unique character. Travelers should definitely ask about the larger rooms if traveling as a couple and single guests should ask about the Rose room (a gem) on the third floor overlooking the heated pool.The gardens have a subtle English feel which pairs nicely with the complimentary tea bar. I’ve stayed during peak season when the house was full. And when I was the only guest. the place is always been quiet. And guests are free to come and go as the please.The home is definitely worth looking into and will add an element of character to anyone’s stay in Pasadena.Thanks for all the great memories

We stayed at the Bissell house because we were going to a concert at The Rose Bowl. The owners were very nice and welcoming upon our arrival. Our room was perfect and the breakfast served was delicious. We would for sure stay here again and would highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast. I loved the location and the history of the house. If you are in South Pasadena it a must.

We stayed at the Bissell House in January of this year. Janet & Julie, sisters, were very personable without being intrusive or overbearing. We really enjoyed talking with them. They were very knowledgeable about the history of South Pasadena. One of the things that my husband liked about Bissell House was that it wasnt too feminine or frilly. The furniture was beautiful but was very authentic for the time. Unlike other places we have stayed at, we found ourselves imagining what it would be like to live and grow up in this house. Many of the furnishings were original. They have a terrific secluded pool and patio area that would be neat during warmer months. The bath tub was an original claw foot bath tub with genuine eagle talons. Most of the bathrooms in the house, we were told, were original. There was a special cooked dish for breakfast every day. For instance, we had french toast with pear/apple sauce & baked eggs with pesto sauce. Along with continental breakfast stuff like cereal,toast & fruit. Something for everyone. My husband felt more comfortable being there downstairs in the living room, library & dining room than any other B&Bs we have stayed in. This was probably due to our excellent hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit; Janet & Julie, we will be back.

Bissell bed and breakfast is one of the most beautiful places I have been. The decorations throughout the whole house was absolutely beautiful. The customer service from Janet was spotless. I appreciated the breakfast, it was cooked to perfection. I will definitely be back to bissell next time Im in town and bring friends! This bed and breakfast is so unique it felt like I was on vacation the whole time even though I was in Pasadena for a business trip. A plus bissell!!!

My wife and I loved this place. The management was very kind and hospitable. Food was excellent. Great location with easy access into downtown & old town Pasadena. And the atmosphere couldnt be better if youre looking for a warm, charming Victorian Bed & Breakfast. The history is very fascinating as well. We hope to stay again!

It is literally a great place to live in. The architecture is traditional American style, and room is so comfortable. Desert is well prepared which includes various kinds of cakes and multiple kinds of tea. This is absolutely a great place for vacation.

I spent 5 nights there and it was an overall great experience. The property is beautiful and has a very unique backstory and history. Woke up each morning to an elaborate breakfast prepared by the innkeeper and came home to fresh desserts at night. If like me youve never been to a b&b this is a great first experience!
