Exceptionally friendly staff! They were so helpful when we needed a tub and extra towels for a medical condition. we had a room set back from the highway, but if you get a room near the highway, it will be louder.You can hear footsteps from people upstairs sometimes and the people next to us had their TV on, but not too loud. So bring earplugs or noise canceling headphones if you have them.The pool has kept it about 73° and it feels great on a hot summer day! They have a hot tub as well.breakfast has dry cereal, hot cereal, yogurt, hot sandwiches, bagels, and toast, waffles, and great coffee. I would definitely stay here again!they have a nightlight on the hairdryer which I appreciate. Not bright, but good for kids.Dim light on the light switches for elderly or kids to find at night was a plus. The tub also has a bar to pull yourself up on.

Clean room, exceptional staff. Mindy, Cindy and Windy (seriously) were all so wonderful to us. Appreciated the spa and pool each day we stayed. Location is right on the highway, so its not a quiet spot. The upside is that there are a lot of places within walking distance. Grocery store next door, hiking trail right up the road, cute pay by the hour arcade nearby, and dont miss Ikedas! Ikedas has a great farm to table lunch counter, a country store with local produce and dry goods, and their pies must be spectacular as I saw people carrying them out i stacks. Clearly I would stay here again.

This was definitely not the experience Id hoped for. Ive been to several Best Western hotels and this one was by far sub standard. They make no accommodations for the disabled. They put us in a second floor room with no elevator. When I asked for a lower floor I was told they had none. As a rewards member I felt like I didnt matter. The room was small and dusty. They remote for the TV didnt work properly and breakfast was horrible. We ate out instead. The mattress was soft and uncomfortable. Housekeeping banged on the door before 9am waking us up. Overall, NEVER AGAIN!!

This motel is terrible!! We booked a king pet friendly room and recieved a queen handicapped room. It was basically bare and the bed was tooooo small. The clerk was rude!! He told me that he needed my credit card incase we messed something up. We are in our 70s. When I called about the room and the size of the bed, he told me that there was nothing he could do about it. Ive been trying for 3 weeks to get a reciept for our stay and have not gotten it. I live in Auburn, where the hotel is, and always thought that it was a nice place to stay. NO!!

Not a 4.4 star hotel. I don’t know who would rate this hotel over a 2 star. It looks like a motel 6 from the outside. Inside, the rooms are dated and the beds are cheap and very uncomfortable. They are small with no extra amenities you would expect from a 4.4 star hotel.This hotel should be half the price as advertised. The only reason I booked is because of the rating on here…. And it’s not accurate. Very disappointed.

I had a 1 queen mobility room. (Room 150). I think it is the only single queen mobility room, but I could be mistaken. I would suggest asking for a different room, even if you need to spend a few extra $. It is on the ground floor (not the issue) next to the ice machine and shares a wall with the linen closet for the housekeeping.The stairs are right outside the room and you can hear every bounce of suitcases on the steps from people who cannot carry their suitcases down the steps. Makes for an early wake up! Between the ice machine, the maid service going in the linen room and rolling the cart on hard outside surface, and the stair noise, that room is not great. (We also had some loud people above us, but they quieted down and went to sleep.)The blow dryer was not working. Tried in multiple outlets and reset it and the wall also. Took it to the front office and it didn’t work in those outlets either. No extra blow dryers on site, so the front desk evening person let me into a vacant room to use the blow dryer as I was going out that evening and didn’t want wet hair. The evening front desk person was very nice, the morning manager-not so much.Breakfast is good, the hotel is clean, and the location is good. I would stay here again, but in a different room and would pack my blow dryer.

I was actually pleasantly surprised how nice this place was. The rooms were clean and I like that it has hardwood floors inside the rooms (not carpeting). The breakfast was great and the staff was very friendly. This was a great experience overall. I also love that they have good bedding It’s appalling when hotels/motels have terrible bedding and this place had 100% cotton sheets & duvets and comfortable mattresses. We will definitely stay here again when we go white water rafting nearby.

Arrived after dark and left pretty early, so cant say too much about amenities if one stays longer. If you use the pool, they would prefer you use other pool towels they give out at the Front Desk. They have a hot tub. Also, there is coin operated laundry mat and soda machine as well as an ice machine down the walkway. Beds were your typical midrange hotel bed. Not uncomfortable, but not luxurious. Theres a thermostat on the wall next to the bathroom that they prefer you use, instead of the one on the machine near the door. I was kept very comfortable by it. Id go again. No complaints.

Nice hotel, its nicer than it looks, clean rooms and great service! Its a motel style with doors on the outside. Pool seemed clean and well maintained too. Beds were ok... Nothing to write home about. Also the hot water is not really hot, I like hot showers but it was warm only. Turn up the broiler to have hotter water.

Cindy was able to get me the last room of the night. There was so much snow on Donner Summit, I couldnt get home. She was helpful and pleasant, thanks for saving me from sleeping in my car. I had a room on the second floor with a nice view of a cherry blossom, or some other kind of tree with pink flowers. It was pouring rain. It was nice to sit inside and watch it rain. This hotel is close to lots of dining options, I went to Auburn Thai Garden, delicious!My room was quiet and clean, shower was hot and had good pressure. I really liked that they have shampoo and conditioner hanging in the shower in bulk, really cuts down on plastic waste - great job Best Western, I wish more hotels did this. I slept well, bed was comfortable. Internet worked well, I was able to attend three virtual work meetings with no connectivity issues.Breakfast was delicious! I made a fresh waffle, the best! I also had a veggie burrito and half a bagel, cranberry juice. I was happy with the options. There was also cereal, fruit, and sausage egg sandwiches. Windy answered my questions in the morning, assisted with my checkout, and was just generally helpful.I rarely stay at hotels but I had such a nice time, I think I will be back. It is nice to have a customer service focused, clean place to stay close to Donner Summit.Thanks for the room and the service! Great job!

However the thermostats in the room only go down to 75° unless youre moving if youre moving around you can go down lower but you dont usually move when youre sleeping so that could be quite warm for some people definitely for me

The rug in our room was absolutely disgusting! Others have stated that their rooms had wood flooring, don’t know why we got this filthy rug. We use Best Western hotels a lot and I am terribly disappointed.

The interior was very clean and very spacious.I like seeing pleanty of staff around. Cleaning and doing a great job.The breakfast was good. They had waffles you can make. I recommend this hotel. The front desk staff was very professional, attentive, and welcoming. The room was very clean and the daily maid service did an excellent job. The bed was comfortable and cozy; I slept through the night better than I do at home. There were several breakfast choices and plenty of tables for seating. Parking was convenient and right near the room. The area felt very safe. I stayed two nights while visiting family and found the nearby grocery store and restaurants for take out very convenient. I plan to stay at the Best Western Golden Key Hotel for my next visit.

It’s an okay place to stay if you just need somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep. Rooms were dated but extremely clean. Walls are thin so it is easy to hear TV in neighbor’s room and highway traffic. Bonus points that it’s one of few hotels that accept cats, which is why we stayed here as we make our cross-country move. Floors are a laminate which is a plus for pet-friendly rooms, much cleaner than carpet. For the price, I give it 4 stars. In general, more like 3.5.

Accessible room review. Bathroom is very large and has a wheel in/walk in shower with large fold down bench and adjustable shower nozzle with a long hose. Toilet is ADA height with grab bars on both sides. There is room for a wheelchair to access the side of the bed. Also has a mini fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. The staff was very nice and helpful. WiFi works great. And the breakfast was fantastic, with a large selection of tasty items.

I had booked a room for my nephew to stay the night. There must have been some computer glitch that it booked a smoking room. When he arrived that was also all that was left. They didnt let him cancel the room once finding out. I called a few days later to try and help get his money back since he didnt stay the night and no effort to make it right. After many years of being loyal to BW this definitely makes me reconsider with the computer glitch and bad service.-update: My email reservation only said King Room with Animal OK and doesnt mention anything about smoking. Not sure why I am even bothering to respond but your lack of trying to make it right annoys me and I dont want it to happen to someone else. The emails and responses after the phone calls for us to give you another try is hilarious. Why would I give you another try when staying at your hotel cost us double because we had to pay for my nephew to stay at another hotel and still charging us. Just for people to be aware they recommended my nephew to call ahead to make sure that it was a non-smoking room even though my email doesnt say it was smoking. I recommend you do this if you dont want to possibly be disappointed and out money for the night. They claim no computer glitches...We live in a time computer glitches happen all the time, just read the news. Sadly I had been a loyal Best Western customer for many years but since each BW is locally operated corporate cant really help so why would I put myself in the position for this to happen again. BW will no longer be getting my money and I will be passing this story along to my friends and family.

The number of stars given are based on the price of the hotel. We were there for a race at Mammoth Bar and the hotel was very close. Our room was clean and spacious and the property was well kept with a nicely done version of the usual free breakfast. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was a good value and we’d definitely stay there again.

UPDATE: (May 2023) We were back in Auburn for a meeting and stayed here because we had enjoyed our stay here two years earlier. We had another great stay. Clean, comfortable, great staff. If we are back in the area in the future, we will continue to stay here.(Feb 2021) Considering COVID, the room was very clean and comfortable, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the parking lot is well lit, and the grab-n-go breakfast option was great. We enjoyed our stay.

Its an alright place if you need a quick place to stay. Staff were courteous and friendly. A simple breakfast was there in the morning, but it was well set up and fresh. The room was fine though had an extremely powerful disinfectant smell. This may be good, but it may have also been covering something up. Not a big deal, but the place is a little older and I even had to fix the toilet for them, which I was glad to do.

I thought I was dealing with someone who represented Best Western. Their phone number was the only one provided. A Best Western that was recommended was over $300 in Redding, CA. I didnt want to pay that much so they recommend a $176 place. I accepted. When I got there It was obviously not Best Western. Drugs were being dealt in the parking lot. The sheets were not on the bed correctly. Any movement pulled them off the mattress. The towels were shredded. We got through our 1 night with trepidation. I was SCAMMED!! When I reached out to Best Western at the same phone number I was told if I had a problem I would have to deal with the motel itself. They took NO responsibility for our mistreatment or overcharge.

They had a good breakfast, no scrambled eggs, but they offered hard boiled eggs, they had waffle makers, and the offered breakfast burritos and sandwiches in the fridge to heat up in the microwave. The intention of my review is to praise the front desk agent who was working when we arrived at midnight on a Friday. I believe his name was Brad. We booked our room through Expedia and the reservation did not go through, so when we arrived he said we did not have a reservation despite it being on my phone with a confirmation. He felt so bad and was so accommodating regardless, he was able to book us a room through their system and gave us their lowest possible rate due to misunderstanding. Additionally, he spoke with the Expedia agent at that very time in front of us to ensure Expedia refunded all our funds for the issue despite that reservation being “non-refundable”.

Very pleasant stay here. The young man at the front desk was very nice during the check in process and recommend a great restaurant nearby. Rooms were standard but clean and well stocked with the necessary supplies. Easy access to the highway, but you dont notice the road noise which is nice. Would not hesitate to stay here again. Affordable and dog-friendly east of downtown Auburn. Very nice people work here, I was really impressed with the staff. Service is great. The room was clean and comfortable. The carpet did show a little wear, but for the price and location, it was not a turn off. Not at all. The rest of the room was totally fine/clean. The hotel has a great dog area amenity. The parking is plentiful and close to the rooms. I wish the breakfast was updated to include vegan options, but the coffee is good. I had an excellent stay here and would stay again.

We stayed at the Best Western Golden Key in Auburn on our way from Sacramento to Milwaukee. I was looking for an affordable place that wasnt too shady - I was really blown away! For under $100, this is an absolutely lovely hotel. Private entrances, lovely landscaping. The room was clean, well laid-out, and with an excellent bathroom. King size bed was comfortable, if not luxurious. We werent staying for pleasure, so for what we needed (a safe, clean place to crash overnight) it was perfect. Continental breakfast was delicious and included a waffle maker, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. Lots of options for picky eaters! I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and price. Will definitely choose Best Westerns again.

This is a great little property that gives a high value. The rooms are plain but clean and comfortable. The pool area is small and with limited shade but similarly spotless and comfortable as well (and there is a lift for guests who need it for both pool and spa). If you are in a party taking multiple rooms, all rooms of one type are in one building - so be aware that if you want a double queen and king room, you will be in different buildings (they are close, but if you want your kids or cousins close by, choose accordingly). Staff is very friendly and a good amount of snacks are always available (cookies, chips, candy, juice, coffee). We did not stay for breakfast but hours were good and seemed like a cute little room.

We have stayed at the Golden Key Best Western every year for the last 8 years. We have family living at the Lake of the Pines and we find it very convenient to stay at this Best Western facility. The rooms are always clean, have refrigerators for keeping snacks and beverages cool. The bathroom and vanity areas are well designed and comfortable to use. The rooms are air conditions and easy to regulate the temperature. The beds are comfortable and have plenty of pillows and blankets. It was noticed that the pillows were variable in softness or firmness. We slept very comfortably. The rooms were very quiet and well insulated from activities outside.

Even though it looks average from the outside, staff and the cleanliness of the room elevates this place above the simple star rating. Staff is very courteous and friendly, and tries their best to provide excellent customer service. Breakfast was decent, and as expected. However, the biggest reason for my review is the room comfort and cleanliness. Ive stayed in higher-starred other brand properties charging three times as much that did not pay attention as much as this place. There was even a pleasant scent from softener the pillow and sheets that was just wonderful. When coming back to Auburn, definitely picking this place again!

It was recommended the first time by Wells Fargo when I used my points to stay. They said Best Western has a great reputation for clean and friendly service. When they said it has been renovated and had new mattresses we booked. We have been happy with the hotel every time we came. Sparkling clean with great friendly service. We have booked this hotel every time we have been there on business and visiting friends. We have come several times in the last two years. They won our hearts forever when they comped the pet fee after learning we were coming this time to rescue a dog who had saved a mans life in a fire. Our new dog is laying on my foot as I write this. First of all, it was 4am when I arrived desperate. My dearest friends celebration of life is tomorrow and I had to travel 6 hours after work expecting to stay at my friends house not far from where the service will be held.Well, our wires got crossed and they thought I was coming tomorrow and we’re still out of town on their honeymoon.After some phone calls and two walk up window “sorry, we cannot accept anyone after 4” rejects, I was about to give up. Then I saw this place and “D” was behind the counter.If you are a potential guest, or especially a person in management who can give “D” an “atta girl” for providing spectacular guest services, she deserves it.she was so very kind, helpful and professional. She informed me there would be a continental breakfast in the morning and put me in a comfortable, clean and well equipped room.She also took the time to get my tv up and going because she understood my need to fall asleep with it on.It may not look like “The Ritz” from the outside, but I’m very happy with my room. Comfortable bed, plenty of pillows, towels and amenities.By the way, I am a Super Host for AirB&B. My house is in Fort Bragg facing the ocean. Was supposed to stay at this hotel for two nights but checked out after one night. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was super clean. The reason I didnt stay the extra night was because although the room was clean, everything else was very old. The carpet, bed cover & sofa needs to be replaced. While I generally avoid motels when traveling, I do trust Best Western, and once again they rather this trust hands down. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed and chair comfortable, and the AC worked like a charm in this recent heatwave. The staff was friendly and helpful; the breakfast orderly and fit for the covid era; and the pool sparkling and refreshing. So even though this is not a 4 or 5 star hotel, they sure do make it feel like home away from home. We stayed here twice recently and were very happy and comfortable with both stays. I recommend ditching the regular room with carpet and staying in the pet friendly room with the laminate floor, even if you dont have a pet. They have a grass area and pet station for dogs. They also have barbecue pits and picnic areas. Well kept grounds, heated pool, spa, and friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

Besides just being incredibly convenient location-wise, everything was top notch.The staff was friendly, welcoming and professional. Another really good Best Western experience at the Golden Key in Auburn. The bed & pillows were super-comfortable, with cozy bedding. The shower stayed hot, the breakfast was the usual waffles or other breads, but with fresh fruit, yogurts, cold juices & excellent coffee added to the mix. I took a dip in the pool in the evening & it was really clean & clear. The freeway nearby is noisy if youre outside, but theres not much you can do about that -- it isnt noticeable if youre in the room -- the rooms are quiet. AND -- a big plus for me -- they subscribe to TCM so I got my commercial-free movies! Its a short drive to Old Town or -- in the other direction -- a couple of excellent local breweries. And if you dont want to go into town, there are restaurants & fast food within walking distance of the hotel. My go-to hotel for visits to Auburn.

As it takes some time, and quite a few night stays to accumulate enough points to pay for a room, there would be a record SOMEWHERE if we were the type of customer that tore up a room, destroyed property, etc. As we have done NONE of those things, we should not be charged a deposit that will not be refunded for 2 to 5 days!!!!! I can assure you, we will NEVER stay at this facility again!!!!!

Handicapped room that we needed was pretty big, BUT...there were all kinds of BUGS in the room! We found ants on the floor between the beds, spiders under the bed that crawled out at night. At night the light by the door attracted all kinds of flying insects so they would fly in the room if you went outside or even opened the door for any reason! Then there was the pincher bug in a folded up towels in the bathroom that I found when drying my young daughter off after a shower! She didn’t want to use any of the towels after that!! 😡. Way too many bugs in the area! Oh wait it gets better...the electricity went out for 5 hours on a extremely hot day! They need to invest in a back up generator! The day we were leaving, my husband went out to load our vehicle with our belongings and there were piles of DOG FECES scattered throughout the parking lot! He wouldn’t be able to move the vehicle without running some over! Thankfully we called the front desk to inform them of this and the man at the front desk was very professional and made sure the maintenance man took care of it immediately!

The check in desk is super clean multiple hand sanitizer options, they have 2 cups for pens at each window one cup for the clean pens and one for the dirty. Several years ago, I asked that my room be changed to another room, because they hadn’t given me the one I asked for. The next time I came back, they said I could no longer stay there. From the time I walked in everything from her mouth was everything they can’t do “unfortunately we don’t do this unfortunately we don’t have that I’m sorry we can’t the only thing we can do, etc.” where is the positive attitude, the glass half full, side? Customer service reps should be practicing positive comments and focusing on what they can do not what they can’t do. She she acted like I was bothering her because I told her I cannot be anywhere near a smoking room. She even rolled her eyes at me when I said that. She must be a smoker and took offense. Anyway, I got another room it’s small it smells horrible! It smells Ronchi like those dirty raunchy Motel 6 hotels. Sorry Motel 6. I am a loyal customer of Best Western. I love Best Western hotels! I’m almost at the platinum level after this day. But as for this hotel, I’m super disappointed I’m sorry I have to stay in this room. I do not recommend this hotel.

There is a huge step when walking into the hotel room, this best western is basically a motel. There was no window curtains in the restroom and the street lights shined the whole bathroom. The main window curtain is not long enough for the window and lets light drain through, the TV is pretty small compared to other best westerns.

I spent one night in this hotel. I have bad allergies so I had an air filter that could handle 800 sq ft with me. It didnt even touch the chemicals in the air. I slept poorly and me eyes were swollen. On top of that, I had driven a 100 mi when I realized I had forgotten my air filter. I called immediately, I was told that the filter would be placed in the managers office for safe keeping. When I picked the filter up on my return trip my fairly new, clean filter was filthy.Disgusting!

PLEASE CONSIDER NOT STAYING HERE. The hotel is fine for a budget establishment but when I arrived they asked me if I am local, which I am not, because they do not allow locals to stay. When I asked the night manager why that is the case she said she did not know. When I asked the morning manager she said they have had problems with locals in the past so decided to ban them from their establishment. I wonder if this is legal but either way it feels like a discrimibatory practice. The Holiday Inn about 2 min away is similarly priced and much nicer anyway.

Great find! Clean, free internet and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Its a bit noisy being so close to the I-80, but the double paned windows do a great job of blocking the noise. Dont stay here if you have to sleep with the windows open, though.

The Best Western Golden Key is a great landing spot for an Auburn visit. The hotel provides good value, with clean, quiet, nice rooms. Good people running this place. There is a Starbucks close bye (& a Chevron Station) and it is a short drive to Old Town. We really enjoyed dinner at The Club Car in Old Town.

Very friendly staff. Covid guidelines look like they are being followed. Allows pets and has a good doggie area. Quite a few breakfast items to choose from. They come in a bag and you take it to your room to micro or eat as is. Some noise from the freeway but if the heating or cooling system is running the noise is covered up.

Worst hotel experience I have ever had by far. There are several reasons why I say this. The room that i stayed in was not worth the price. The first big issue I had was my dogs. Even though my 2 dogs are service dogs, I kept hearing very rude complaints about their fur from the hotel front desk. (Cindy). This lady Cindy was very rude to me from the moment that we met. I was on the phone on an important call when she came up to me, yelling that I was smoking in my room, which I never did once. I said politely that I havent smoked in there and Im sorry if my clothes smell like smoke. She proceeded to tell me I had to leave the hotel and that she was going to charge me for smoking in the room. Again, I never smoked in that room once. I think that part of the reason she reacted the way she did was that she was probably discriminating against me because Im not caucasian. I ask her to step in the room with me to smell it because I couldnt smell the smoke that she was so harshly accusing me of. She wouldnt even do that and was not listening to anything I said. At this point I started loosing my cool that she was harrasing me. She then kicked me out of the hotel and called the cops on me. Im not sure what she said to the police, but as soon as they got there they treated me as a criminal. They put me in handcuffs and were really rough with me which has made my hips so bad I cant walk right now. I was already packing my stuff when she called the cops on me for no reason. I really do think a lot of it was just discrimination. So anybody that smokes, has dogs, or if you are not caucasian, this is the worst place to stay ever. Another thing I should mention is I often work at night so I have to sleep during the day. Every morning, there were several different people that came pounding on my door even though I had the privacy please sign on the door. They dont respect privacy one bit either. I highly recommend going to the Red Lion hotel across the highway less than a mile away. It is much nicer, staff is nice, helpful and respectful unlike the Best Western. I cant believe how horrible my experience was at the Best Western Golden Key. Ive stayed at nicer hotels that were a third of the price

I called best western 2 hours ago to see if they might have a room available the girl on the phone said I was in luck that they just had a cancellation so I gave my card number and all my information and reserved the room. I just left the best Western because I was told that they did not have my reservation !!! Now what ? I went to quality inn they only had a suite for 438.00$ ya no. How does this happen I will never try to stay at best western again! Did I mention I have my daughter and 4 month old grandson with me ? So terribly inconvenienced !!!I would like to acknowledge that Cindy from best Western called me Monday morning and apologized for my inconvenience, she said she found out what had happened with my reservation but that was no excuse. I still do not understand how something like that could happen, but she did mail me a travel card for basically a free night stay at best western any where in the U.S. which I did receive just the other day. Great TV, but no HBO, and cant turn volume past 51. Larger fridge, but it doesnt have a freezer section. Window in watercloset/shower room. Fancy cabinet hides microwave and fridge. Coffeemaker is the fake one cup at a time type. Room door stays open, none of that automatic closing nonsense. Room has sliding glass window with screen. Charcoal BBQ area and a heated pool sort of. Free breakfast starts at 530, awesome. Washer and dryer is a little old. Water pressure of sink is low.

Motels are noisier than hotels, but at this one we had to deal with rap music being blasted from the parking lot at night, as well as a car horn honk off in the middle of the night. The room was fine, albeit drafty, and the water pressure on the second floor was good. However, the shower took, no exaggeration, 10 minutes to get hot. Next time Im in Auburn I will look into other overnight options.

It is actuallyeast of Auburn but located right off the freeway on Lincoln.It has such a caring staff and comfortable accommodations youre inno hurry to leave. Its handy to the small city of Auburn, a shopping mall 2 blocks away and its breakfasts are delicious. If you want lunch there is the local favorite called Awful Annies and just east of that is an ice cream shop and Ikedas if you just want a burger or grab a homemade pie to take home. (Or take up to Tahoe!) Enjoy....the Golden Key is terrific !

Loud and I got microwaved and had to sleep under the sink with mirrors facing away while I got pictures of every car around me and pictures of the guy microwavong me the next morning first it was room 134 at night and then 132 in the morning. I found a van and a motorhome the next morning and the placercounty sheriffs watching from way accross the road stupid I told them on paper I was gonna be sleeping there. I had to listen to some guy screaming he has a 14 year old girl in there just cause he is so jealous of me he tried to get people to think I had someone in there.
