The best smog service. Jesse the owner and do-it-all man, is the nicest and most competent car service man around. He’s always on task with a pleasant attitude to boot and will have your car done in a fraction of time of what it takes others. His prices are also the best. My family wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Bought a Groupon to come here for a smog test because of the good reviews. Service here didnt disappoint. They took the voucher without any issue, and charged $8.25 for the CA certification (which is stated in the fine print on Groupon. I had an appointment at 12:30 (though I came at 12) and my car was done by 12:45. Thanks for the great service. In 2 years, Ill probably be back here.

Just moved to California and had to get my car smog checked - Berkeley smog not got that done for me quickly (about twenty minutes) but handled my entire registration with CA. I expected the process to be long and arduous (I am from a state with horrendous DMVs/bureaucracy). Jessie literally handled everything at the smog shop in about twenty-five minutes and I walked out with CA plates and everything I needed. Not only was my experience with Berkeley smog incredibly convenient, but Jessie was great company. Cant recommend this place enough!

I managed to book an online appointment the night before and was promptly greeted by the apparent one man show. I didnt get his name, but he managed to answer the phone earlier, because I had left home without my DMV renewal notice, which he fortunately did not require. I was in and out in less than say 25 minutes. Theres a small lounge and counter that separates the area from the testing garage area, nothing fancy, but if you need to sit outside from your vehicle, there you have it. Ill plan to return when Im required to againCheck Groupon or ither couoon apps for special offers, as well as their website for making online reservations. Theres a taco truck on site, per the website, though I did not try it. Sorry, no photos. I missed thei driveway the first time around, because it looked like an abandoned gas station, less the pumps.

I bought a Groupon on a Sunday afternoon to get a smog done on my 2000 Toyota Camry. Called Monday morning to book an appointment and was told to book online, so I did.When I arrived, there was one person ahead of me, but the gentleman working stopped and came to check me in. He was very pleasant and friendly. When my car was up, took about 10 mins, and I was on my way. Super fast and friendly. Highly recommend if you need a smog done. Loved my experience.

Bought a car online from the online dealership Vroom and I had to come here to do a VIN verification for an out of state vehicle to get it registered in California.The business owner looked at my car and noted that the vehicle also needed to get smogged which I was initially surprised about since its only 1-year old and a hybrid and my dealership didnt ask for that. I took the owners recommendation and did the smog and paid extra for the added on service.Of course Im glad he told me about it since Vroom later backtracked and said they also needed a smog check in addition to the VIN verification. I appreciate the owners extra mile which saved me a trip back. Overall was really quick in/out for a smog and VIN verification (10-15 min total) with only one person in line around 11:30am on a weekday. A few cars arrived as I left so the lunch rush got a little bit busier.

A real 5Star place for all your smog and DMV needs. If there is anything positive during COVID-19 times, it is our ability to to figure out how flexible we can be in our beaurocratic processes.DMV now allows us to register, transfer and get plates and stickers at non DMV locations. Happened to stop by at this place for a transfer of vehicle. Its simply easiest thing I had to do. Unlike previous experiences of standing in the long queues and waiting for the turn to talk to someone who is probably not at all interested in doing what they are, I had opportunity to meet good people with great attitude who obviously love doing what they do and willing to go extra mile to help you answer all the questions and take care all the needs.Its simply great.

I have been coming to this place for years. Every time it’s been quick, efficient and reasonably priced. I use the on line reservation system . 100% recommend! Jesse was knowledgeable and informed, and made the process of transferring an out-of-state title swift and easy. I called ahead and scheduled an appointment within 24 hours. He had me in and out in under thirty minutes, including the smog test. By helping me out with the paperwork, he saved me money in fees (as well as what would have been an extra appointment at the DMV). Totally worth the $50 fee, and the hours of time youll save by not waiting in line!!! He was very pleasant to work with, charges less for a smog than other locations Ive been to, and even pointed out a few preventative maintenance items, just as a courtesy. lll definitely visit here first, for all of my future needs!

Would recommend this place to anyone; great and speedy service, nice guy, and taco truck right outside. Although great overall experience, giving 3 stars because Jesse completed and charged me $60 for a VIN verification. I never asked him to do one and I only asked for a car registration to be done. When I discussed this with him, he said it’s something that the DMV would need it, which in most cases is true, but in mine I did not need one. He wasn’t able to do a refund for just the $60, so now I’m out $60 for something that I don’t need and have never used. He apologized but still really unfortunate and unfair. I suggest you be explicit with what you want done on your car if you try them out. Other than that, good experience.

Update 9/2/2023I previously reviewed this spot 5 years ago. I have only had good experiences, but today was above and beyond. My husband accidentally left his phone on a chair in the Berkeley Smog office today. The employee called me and asked if my husband or I had left our phone there. Thats when my husband realized he couldnt find his phone!We are so grateful, we hadnt even noticed it was gone! Make sure you make an appointment, but seemed like one would be okay without.FYI, the Groupon doesnt include a $9 certificate fee. Also, they remove anything attached to your obd port like a metro mile tracker. This is probably standard for any smog test, but I wasnt made aware. Hopefully no trouble for missing a drive with metro mile.

I found this place using Groupon. While not the least expensive option available by Groupon (at the time), it was only a few dollars more than the lowest price option and a lot closer to home. It was very easy to make an appointment following the directions provided on the Groupon (I even had to reschedule a couple times, and the website couldnt have made that easier). When I showed-up at my appointment time (a little late, actually), I was promptly greeted, handed some paperwork to fill out while the emissions test was completed, and then promptly paid the additional state certification fee at the counter. The whole thing took maybe 10 min. Would definitely come back next time my vehicle is due for a check!

This was my second visit to Berkeley Smog. It is such a pleasure when one can post a review of a business that provides exceptional service. On Friday morning I discovered that registration had lapsed on one of my cars. I dropped by Berkeley Smog without an appointment and they were able to help immediately. Smog certification was required. But I was helped with a welcoming smile. Less than 30 minutes after arrival I left with a new registration tag in hand. Efficient, knowledgeable and friendly service; one could not possibly ask for more.If only I could rate 5Plus stars I would. Highly recommended

Walk into the place after having set up an appointment literally 2 hours earlier. My mans Jesse asks me, “Do you want to register your car while you’re here?”A pause.“You can do that here?”“Sure, so long as it’s never been registered in CA before. This is a great place with a nice friendly personnel working there. I had spent four hours in DMV trying to get my out of state cars transfer to CA. I did not know that even newer car (2016) requires a smog check here. It was a very pleasant surprise that I was told they (he) could finish my paper and I can get my plates right there. The person who helped me with the paper work also did the test. He was very professional and attentive. Turns out I didnt need to drive 100 miles, I just needed to drive a good solid 20-30 minutes on the freeway, turn off the car for about 30 seconds, and drive back. That reset my computer and recorded the data needed to pass the smog the second time. The process takes 15 mins or less and the service is very friendly.This year I took advantage of the groupon. It was easy, it just requires planning instead of stopping when I am going by.I was half an hour early for my appt and found them to be busier pervious years, two cars ahead of me. I showed up to get a smog test thinking I would need to rot in line at the DMV afterwords to register my car - but I was out of there with a completed registration and new plates in less than an hour! This place was amazing - super professional, efficient and friendly with just one guy working in the morning. Even gave me a pastry while I waited! Amazing service!!

Super fast service. I asked them to do my license plate transfer full service. I did need to pay extra for inspections and service fee. But it saved so much time instead of stuck in DMV

What makes this place great is the disposition of the owner, very patient, very kind and very quick. Price is more than fair with FREE retest and appointments are available. Also food truck on site.

I brought my car in yesterday for a smog test, and it was great! We dropped off my car, and had lunch at Juan’s Place, which offers a 10% discount when you tell them your car is at the smog shop. When we got back, they took care of my paperwork and dmv renewal and I got my new tags on the spot. Plus, when I got back to the car there was a chocolate for me and a milkbone for my pup! I’d recommend this shop for sure, and I’ll be back next time I need to get my car smogged!

I was recently trying to sell my car and had a last minute buyer at 4:30 in the afternoon. Berkeley Smog Test Only was able to help me on short notice and make it possible to sell the car. The technician was friendly and very efficient. I will definitely go back.

Doesnt get any better/easier than this. Ive gone several times, forgot to sign up online and walked in recently in a pinch. They fit me right into their schedule, with no questions. Super friendly service. Professional.
