Ive been to multiple Avilas location. This is become a must stop when I visiting from Washington!The way the staff welcomes you and the unique atmosphere of the place, reminiscent of an old church, really seem to make each visit special. It’s not just about the food, which clearly is a highlight with the famous caldo and the must-have crispy taco, but also about the feeling of connection and warmth that turns a simple meal into a memorable occasion. The streak and garlic shrimp is also another favorite of mine.It’s wonderful to find such a gem during my travels from Washington. I plan to have many more visits to Avila’s. With the goal to visit all of there locations.

This was a very beautiful restaurant. The food was very tasty and fresh. The salsa and guacamole were flavorful and delicious. They have a bar towards the back of the restaurant and plenty of space (with an additional dining room for larger parties). You can still see what seems to be a church-like atmosphere. Very spacious. Tall ceilings. Beautiful. Would recommend to any foodie or someone looking for a unique place to eat authentic Mexican food.

Beautiful Old Abbey that has extremely beautiful stained glass windows that shine in know matter the amount of light.Defly turned into a creatively designed super open vaulted ceiling interior that is full of light from so many those mostly blue honed windows & stained glass...like a prism:))Less than 1 block from The District Plaza.Locals go2 for swift, authentic, comfort food and more. Small bar in back is very quaint & nice spot 2 watch sports. Patio has all the bells & whistles. Totally digg just eating chips guacamole 🥑 & sipping on beverage just people watching:))Always fresh & quality foods & beverages.Great value and huge 🍽️ plates cuz large portions 👍Cadillac Margaritas r well known by locals.Bar upstairs has that has own section in back & has diverse collection of beer & cocktails also leads to a covered or open table patios for eating or lounging. Food was great, service was friendly and fast. Food came out super hot and everything was as ordered! We appreciated the dog friendly patio - they brought a water bowl and water for our pup. Menu was broad - there’s sure to be something for everyone! The chips and salsa were also very tasty.

The atmosphere of an old church with magnificent stained glass windows and the woodwork is great. Most of our large party enjoyed their food but there were a few misses like the carnitas. Best 2 dishes were the garlic shrimp and the Chile Colorado. Drinks were attentively refilled which is a plus. Prices were very reasonable for the quantity of food in todays economy.

We absolutely love coming here. This location is inside a Historical Church Building. It’s just beautiful.The staff is over the top wonderful, the food is outstanding.The dining room is always clean and comfortable, and the outdoor patio is wonderful, clean, and weatherproof. The bathrooms, although difficult to access for someone with mobility issues, are always clean and well stocked.Fantastic place to go for date nights or family time. They even have a separate dining area for parties or large group events.

I really like this place. The food is extremely consistent and they always serve you extremely quickly and the food is good. Would I say it is the most authentic mexican..... no but overall still delicious. I would highly recommend their chicken and rice soup. Its one of my favorites. It is an extremely simple dish yet so flavorful and delicious. I love their salsa and it is one of my favorites add a restaurant. It is chunky with lots of onion. It has a tiny kick to it but overall is packed with flavor. I also really enjoyed their crunchy tacos here. I have been catering here as well multiple times and the food is amazing and I really feel that the pricing is fair. They are extremely generous with their chips when it comes to catering orders or to go orders.

Love, love this place! I used to go here almost every Tuesday with friends for a quick dinner before a meeting that used to be close by. My husband and I have gone here for years but had forgotten about it as we have frequented restaurants in Anaheim Hills and Yorba Linda closer to where we live lately. However, we were delighted when friends suggested it for a place to meet recently so we went. My husband and I are vegetarian and they have a burrito that he had the Wednesday before Fathers Day when we went out to eat with our friends and then on Fathers Day he asked if i was ok with going back as he wanted another one. I love their crunchy potato tacos and avocado tacos! So yummy. Whoever makes them fills them just right with a perfect balance of ingredients. That Wednesday I also had the rice and beans that were delicious but it was way too much but I ate it all. That day I had worked a lot in the yard so it was ok. Sunday I got the tacos a la carte and it was the perfect amount. Just delicious. The beans and rice were so tasty without that heavy lard taste/effect. I think some Mexican restaurants either use a cheaper cheese or too much but whatever Avilas uses it is delectable and done just right. Highly recommended this long time Mexican Restaurant. It has been open for many years and so glad it survived the pandemic. My husband and I used to go there for take out when masks were mandated. 👍👍

Wow - what a great experience!Ive been to this brand but first time at this location. Its a converted church (not lost on I or my friend with our antics) and its stunning. The stain glass is breathtaking!The service was outstanding! We were there for a few hours talking, talking and talking since it had been forever since last together. The waiter and bus staff were sensational to us. The food was delicious! Had a beef quesadilla and chicken fajitas. Just YUM! Still a reasonable price and huge portions. Special shout-out for their homemade salsa. Has a great bite and loaded with fresh ingredients. I should have brought some home!

I love the atmosphere are becoming go there. Seeing the Elvis memorabilia is a welcoming sight since I had been toGraceland and it brings back wonderful memories. Our food was delicious. Tastes like your mothers cooking. The rice and chillie relleno reminded me of childhood. I really enjoyed the chicken enchilada!!! Definitely an unexpected delight found in a moment of hunger. The is a lot of staff so the tableware is always being cleaned up. Only advice is to be careful with the traffic. For what appeared to be a quiet street the drivers were erratic.

Ok food. I got a camarones a la diabla to go, 26 dollars, those 6 shrimps were the most expensive shrimps ever. Maybe it was 10 for the side of rice, 10 for the small side of beans and 6 dollars for the shrimp. Tortillas were hard, and i live 2 blocks away, so they went hard in hard minutes. Too expensuve plate for 6 shrimps

Not all Avilas El Ranchito restaurants are the same. The food and the way they make the paloma at this location is very disappointing . The overall quality of food and drinks at the Costa Mesa location is off the charts 100%. The picture I posted of steak fajita is from the Costa Mesa location. Compare it to the steak fajita of the Orange location and youll see the difference. I was waiting for the sizzle sizzle of my fajitas instead I got, watch the plate, its hot. If it wasnt for the event we were going to, we would of gone to CM location.

Went there with family and friends and they were able to accommodate us (party of ten two kids) within 10 minutes of getting there. (No reservation). Food was really good and the service was awesome. Salsa was really good too. Its next to the orange circle and we were able to walk around after dinner and check out other places. We will be back.

Just outside the Orange Circle this Avilas was once a church from what I understand. Went their recently and the staff was extremely courteous and attentive. As always their chicken tortilla soup was fantastic, their chips were warm and tasty, and the salsa ranks pretty high. Take your dog and sit on the patio, they have heaters.

We went to Avilas El Ranchito for dinner based on a recommendation from our Airbnb host. Located in the Old Town section of Orange, the restaurant is located in an old church. The building is very cool and beautiful. The staff is friendly and we didnt have to wait to get a table for six (we went around 7pm). The menu is expansive with lots of options. They give you complimentary chips and salsa which were very good. The salsa had the perfect kick to it. We ordered a chile relleno, crispy taco, and enchiladas. The chile relleno was very good as was the crispy taco. The enchiladas were good as well. We were surprised they used ground beef rather than the shredded that was in the taco. The refried beans were very tasty. The restaurant is very kid-friendly. They have a menu specifically dedicated to children and are happy to alter the items to accommodate your kids tastebuds. Service is friendly and quick. They checked in on us multiple times to make sure we were happy and had full drinks. Pricing is average. Most entrees seemed to be $15 to $20 or so. We enjoyed our time at this place and would return when we visit Orange.

One of the things we missed most during the pandemic was eating at this restaurant. We love sitting out on the patio, and we were excited to do that for the first time in over a year. This time we had chicken fajitas, but tried the fillet mignon salad as well. Loved it. Service was average today, but it’s usually pretty good.We have tried other Avilas locations but this one is the only one we go to.

The Carne Asada y Camarones al Mojo de Ajo is off the chain. They leave the shrimp all nice and crispy. I’ve been to this place many times usually do the enchiladas which are ok but the steak plates are so freaking good. The bowls here are also really good as well. The chips n salsa are pretty good. They have coke products but I like the most is the tropical un-sweeten ice tea. The staff and overall service is really up there. The staff was very attentive to our needs, for sure.

The food is excellent and the service is great, but there is no soundproofing, so it can be quite noisy when there are a lot of people there. Mama Avilas soup is the BEST chicken soup ever! Its a meal by itself, with a lot of chicken. You get flour or corn tortillas, and I always order the condiment plate, with extra cheese, avocado, tortilla strips, and jalapeños. Even though the restaurant is on the ground floor, there are about 4 steps at the main entrance. They do have a wheelchair lift if needed from the side entrance. Just let the host inside know.

Avilas El Ranchito is a great restaurant for family reunions, romantic date nights and for friend gatherings.The restaurant from inside has a very cozy feeling to it. It is a historic place from back in the late 1890s which makes it suitable for a late night date with a significant other. Theres plenty of room inside but theres also plenty of seating outside with patio heaters.The quality of the food is great. I ordered the Chicken and Mole and my wife got the Al Mojo. We thought the food was very fresh and the taste was great, but the quality of the plates comes at a long wait because these plates that we ordered were made to order.I highly recommend this restaurant if youre in the mood for a romantic night and willing to wait for at least 25 minutes before youre food comes out fresh. My wife and I enjoyed it and had no complaints on the wait because it allowed us to have a great conversation.We also got drinks. I love wine and so I ordered myself a Las Olas Pinot Noir which I think had a great body and very pleasant with the dish I ordered. My wife ordered a California Cadillac and she thought it was a little too salty but not bad overall.

This is a great location in a historical neighborhood of Orange. This particular building had been a church and it still boasts its original hardwood floors and stained glass windows. Since we did not dine in, although it is open for limited seating, the take out option and service was particularly impressive. The staff is friendly and we received our food in less than ten minutes. The food was delicious and the packaging kept everything hot for an extended period of time. They have converted the parking lot into expanded seating outside, so parking can be somewhat of a difficult feat in this area as much of it is bordering residential and businesses.

This location is really unique. Its a historical building in Orange that was remodeled for a restaurant. It was an old church. Outside seating with heaters, in side bar and plenty of seating. Stain glass windows are beautiful. I ordered the surf and turf tacos and they were very good. Beans and rice were good. Plenty of good options on the menu. They have several other locations, but this one is a really different because of the building and you need to come visit. Chips and salsa was several. Salsa is very hot, FYI.

I did not like this place. The menu is way too big, its going all over the place. The result was that most of the plates our table of 10 got looked very similar with rice and some goo made of red sauce and ton of orangy cheese. I probably didnt order the right item though : 50/50 pork and cheese enchiladas, the pork one was really dry. Please make menus with less but memorable items...

If youve been to any of the other Avilas locations, this is the same. Food is solid. Good Mexican food with decent happy hour prices and drinks. Atmosphere at this location is a little loud in the main dining area because its a really large open room. Cant go wrong here, the only issue can be parking if you decide to come on the weekend.

I would definitely recommend it to anybody thats loves Mexican food The service was great The only reason why I didnt give it a five stars was because of the dessert was terrible. The flan was amazing except for deep fried ice cream. It seems like they prepared it a couple days before which the corn Flick batter around the ice cream they use went stale and then they deep fried it It gave it a similar texture to dry coconut and the bottom of the bowl was filled with oil from the deep frying. Other than that presentation was amazing but definitely a disappointment when it came to the taste of the deep fried ice cream. Hopefully next time I will be better. 🤞🤞

Absolutely great service! Took my aunt for her 79th bday today and was amazed by the service. She uses a wheelchair now & luckily they have wheelchair access. Once we entered, we were greeted by manager which then accommodated seating for us. Food was great and service was top notch! Been to several Avilas but this one was by far the best! Great customer service & great food! Thank you all for giving my aunt a great experience!

The gentleman that kept our table clean was an older gentleman very nice person he told me he worked there for at least 5 years he did a good job in what he did! he kept bringing what we needed and made sure we were doing good! The only issue I had would say would be the waitress she barely came to our table just to get the order she never ever hardly checked up on us except for once but it was just like hey how you doing everything fine and leaves never hardly comes around thats why the other person who was helping us was the guy who cleans the tables he was always there that why I dropped the stars from 5 to 3 and again I didnt get her name because she had no name tag I dont think anybody did so its really hard to describe but the person like I said who was there for 5 years who cleans tables he didnt excellent job If he was our waiter I would have gave the place a five-star but because that waitress was so lousy and lazy it drop down but hopefully that doesnt swade you from coming to this restaurant if youre lucky you wont have this person!

Parking is ok but during peak times might have to park a block away. Restaurant is in an old church so has some old church charm. There is a separate bar area and a ground level dining area with a raised level eating area. Servers were nice, quick and responsive. We were there at about 8:30pm during a weeknight. They close shortly after we got there but did not feel rushed. Between the chips, salsa and meal it was very filling. Next time maybe share a plate so I can have room and try some dessert.

I spotted this Mexican restaurant by accident and we decided to give it a try. We were greeted right away and taken to a table on the spot. Our server came with chips and salsa immediately and took our drink orders. They ARE very generous with their alcohol. I ordered a blood orange margarita and it was very strong. I am not complaining, thats a good thing! I ordered the chile verde plate and it did not disappoint. The flavors were just right and just enough heat. The rice had great flavor too. The beans however needed some salt. Everything on my plate was good. The salsa was fresh and I loves that they added green scallions to it. Our server, Eldiberto was amazing. He checked on us like 5/6times. Always making sure our drinks were refilled. Overall our visit was pleasant and hope to return again!

To order the special prices for taco Tuesday you need to order a margarita or beer. Which defeats the special pricing. I love their Avilas chicken soup! They make it fresh everyday, and they bring fresh avocado, tomatoes & onions on the side to add as you like! Which gives it a nice fresh taste! They have onsite parking available. The onsite parking is small but there is free street and and also city parking available as well. This is a great place to eat. Its a very lively environment but not to over the top. I went here for my wedding party dinner and had a great experience for 30 of my guest. My Carne asada came out exactly as I expected, my wife ordered Camarones a la diabla and asked them to be mild and not too spicy and they granted her wish. My picky Dad ordered 1 Fish taco, still hesitant of ordering two because of past experiences at other restaurants, he loved the taco with rice and beans. My mother killed her Camarones rancheros, and my daughter munched down on the taquitos de pollo.The Waitress kept coming around our table, felt like every 5 to 10 minutes but not in an annoying way, we felt like she was there to take care of our every need. I decided to come in and have dinner on a Friday night. I sat at the bar and the service was great (2 stars) the bar tender acknowledged me right away and offered me a drink. I had the shrimp Diablo ($21) the plate was hot but didnt look pleasing to the eye at all, I was kinda sad when I saw it. Now the shrimp was so over cooked It was like chewing rubber. The sauce was good it had lots of garlic and solid heat. Beans and rice were bland. The tortillas are not made in house but a frozen dough, they were soft and warm.How this place gets such good reviews is beyond me. Ive had more authentic and better food in a hole in the wall taqueria. Its a little less eccentric than most of the others but probably one of their bigger restaurants. I had my usual Mamas chicken soup. Love this Avilas. The building of this restaurant is an old church building. It has the stained glass windows, the roof peaks of a church, and on the inside it still has the same structure of the church. It is a very neat and unique dinning experience. Avilas is our neighborhood favorite. All of the staff are wonderful, friendly, and genuinely nice people. The food is always fresh and tasty. The drinks are always perfect. You can tell the employees are happy to work there, and that makes a difference. The management does a great job, it runs like a well oiled machine.

I visit both the Orange and Santa Ana locations. Great food an great service at both. I will continue to recommend the Orange location.I visit the Santa Ana restaurant more often and the only negative comment I should mention is that service at the booths and tables adjacent to the bar is inconsistent and at times nonexistent. I once waited 1/2 hour after requesting my check after eating dinner.Its quite possible to leave that area feeling absolutely unappreciated from their hit & miss service.

Very disappointed! I was very excited to learn of the Orange location since it is close to my home. I have been a regular for over 40 years at the original Huntington Park location where the service and food is always superb. The Orange location is no comparison to the Huntington Park location. Very poor service and very small portions with large prices. After me and my guest complained to the bland tasting for the waiter basically looked like oh well. Hes said that they do things differently here. Like I said that the Huntington Park location gets 5 stars!

I love the decor of this place, but it definitely feels like the experience is lacking. The food is typically average, and the service is usually pretty slow and not very personalized. Again, I think that the place is pretty good, but with such a growing food culture in old Towne orange, I think they could definitely step it up.

You know my wife really likes this place and the food is decent. I believe the food is geared more to an american crowd than your traditional authentic crowd. It is safe has decent flavor.Mu biggest concern is that we repeatedly have weak service. Not all the time but last Friday night the waiter just dropped our food off and we never saw him back for a long time. Wife wanted another margarita and they guy never came back to ask.Grab another waiter to get the to go boxes and checks.This was not the first time this has happened.It really turns me off on this.$100 I dropped at the restaurant and had to leave a note on the receipt. They really need to work on that.Wished I spoked better Spanish. Felt we would have gotten better attention

Avilas is some real deal Mexican food. The Avilas soup is the perfect chicken and rice soup, not too salty with a ton of flavor. The tacos are incredibly good as well. My wife likes the bowls which have rice and no tortilla. Always have great service when were there!

Its usually a toss up between here and Morenos, and I will tell you the factors that go in to which one we choose.-Avilas usually has warmer, fresher tasting chips. Salsa has more veggies and is milder. So when we are craving a warmer chip, that is in Avilas favor.-Avilas food tends to sit a little lighter, if you know what I mean. The beans are not as heavy.-Avilas service is usually superior.-Avilas has an outdoor patio, but nothing close to the size of Morenos. If we want to bask in nature it is a win in the Morenos column.-Morenos has the Merchants Lunch that is pretty cheap, cheaper than any special ar Avilas.So, you really cant go wrong with either place, its just your budget and preference at the time!

Great authentic Mexican food. Ordered the beef machaca and the beef was very tender and juicy and the salsa had alot of flavor and heat. I would definitely come back, but I have noticed when I get outdoor seating the service seems to be a little slower.

We used to go to the church that is now Avila’s. The ambiance is second to none. We always sit outside which is like sitting on your front porch enjoying the quiet neighborhood. The food is fresh and as authentic as it gets. The service is super efficient and personable. We eat here 3-4 times a month. Love this place.

Good food with a nice variety of dishes on the menu. Quick service and a very nice atmosphere make El Ranchito a great place to eat when visiting Old Town Orange. Its a block off the circle so it is easy to miss. Good parking nearby.

I believe in supporting local business and have eaten at Avilas on a regular basis. Call to place an order for pickup and they hung up the phone. When I called back, they would not pick up. I assumed they were slammed and reluctantly used an on-line app to order (which was a pain in the a$$ itself). I had to laugh when the app defaulted to an 18% gratuity, when they are providing 0 service. When I got there to pick up my order, not only where they not busy, but there were 5 employees standing just outside the bar chatting. They stood there the entire time I was there. The will be my last time eating at Avilas. Plenty of better Mexican food all around the circle.

We needed to find a place to eat with our dog while the house was tented for termites. The Filling Station was perfect. We were seated in a spot where we could keep our dog securely seated in the corner w/o bothering others around us. The waitress even brought us a bowl of water for our dog.

The beans were a funny color, but tasted fine. They were probably natural, and thats why they didnt look look right, haha. Rest of the food (brunch) was just food. Nothing amazing. Nothing terrible. Just there. Safe place to go eat, and way nicer environment inside than on the patio.
