Had a great time here with hubby on a Sunday except it was super crowded. The fudge was okay nothing too great at the fudge factory so was their Dutch apple pie and cider shake at the restaurant. We did pick some fresh apples on our way back which were very sweet. Oh if youve got kids the pony rides look so cute, its 15 or 12 for a round cash only.

It was my first time visiting Apple Hill and it didnt disappoint. The location is surrounded by the beautiful scenery, pine trees galore and mountains in the distance.Its an outdoors kind of event, a farmers market in the front featuring apples, all kinds of varieties: Fiji, Granny Smith, Delicious, etc at prices lower than the grocery store. They have an outdoor grill and have meats cooking like Italian sausage, hot links, burgers and more. I think the prices are on the steep side, $13 for an Italian sausage...but you be the judge.Further in, they have sweets like premade frozen pies, applesauce, and fudge. There is a bar for the 21 and over drinker. They feature hard apple cider, along with other apple beers and wines. The lines may be long but they move very fast as there are a lot of registers open and moving customers along.Across the street there is a childrens train ride and a marvelous view of the Christmas trees further out.Bathrooms are decent. Handicap acceptable. There were 3 or 4 stalls plus a few sinks.Parking is free and spacious. Handicap parking is available.

This place is way more of a mob scene than I recall from my last visit (2018). Think: Flea Market on steroids. That being said, the Cat Herders do a bang up job keeping traffic going inside the property proper. On the way in is a whole other story. I do love their Asian pears. And the family friendly atmosphere is there. We brought a visitor from Peru. Make sure you check out the vendors you patronize so you know if you are actually receiving High/Apple Hill goods. Many arent. Yet there are plenty of quality handcrafted items to select from. I think my frequency of visits is good at once every 5 years. YMMV

Delicious pies and food, a little pricey but worth the experience. The pie house restaurant does serve more than 5 different varieties of pies and cakes. You have to go inside to see the signs for deserts. Outside you can buy whole pies only. Lots of seating. There are also homemade donuts but the line was pretty long. Hay ride around the orchard is very short really not worth the price but an experience fun for kids and dogs. The market had fresh caramel and other candied apples and goodies. Also, fresh fruit in season, jams, jellies and other sweets. Many local vendors selling unique crafts and parking wasnt too bad. I will definitely go to the other locations to check out more variety and try more pies!

Our family makes the drive to Apple Hill every October for the fresh pies, pastries, great lunches and craft vendors that can be found at many of the locations. Bringing home the fresh Cider and treats is the highlight of the experience.

It has been a favorite pastime for about 20 years now. Love all the craft vendors, fudge factory, donut shop, pie house, tractor train ride, and pond that has fishing and feeding of the ducks. Nestled in the hills just above Placerville with plenty of parking even in the orchard among the trees, as an overflow. Recommend planning to be there for a few hours in order to see and experience everything.

This is a beautiful drive along a country road. A perfect place for families, a romantic afternoon or even a first date.Fresh pies, apples and food. You will find many unique booths with handmade gifts, a fishing fun little pond with poles and bait included and more. The sights, the smells, the fresh air, the fun.You can find a map of all of the farms at most farm stands and the maps are free. Bring your lunch on the drive and find a bench for a holiday picnic. I make this trip every year and will go back years to come. Football Sundays and week days are my favorite days because it has been the lightest traffic days. Happy Holidays!

It has been 15 years or so since the last time I was here and wow has it changed. I am surprised by how many things are sold and by how many people come to visit. If you dont get here by 7am you might end up in a long line of cars looking for a parking spot waiting on the road. A really cool car show happened during my visit. I really enjoyed the fresh apple doughnuts and coffee.

High Hill is a really cool place to visit in the fall months. There is quite a few things for kids/family to do (fishing in the pond, face painting, hay rides, etc), many vendor/craft tents, good food, live music and more. The only 2 major negatives about High Hill is that is is wayyyy crowded from open to close, which also means parking is a nightmare and the exploitation of the ponies that are forced to let child after child after child ride them for hours.

Great place to take the kids, have some fun and get some good food. Pies are all delicious. Donuts are great and they have a great selection of other foods. Make sure to visit the store for apples, salsa, wine and much more!There is a pond in which you can pay to fish from. Candle making and face painting activities. Also lots of people selling cool stuff they made themselves.We come here at least once a year and plan on doing so for many years to come.

This is a very impressive commercial operation. We were lucky to go late afternoon on a Saturday and probably missed the rush crush. When we saw it the next day on a Sunday we were amazed at the lineup to get in from the road. Plan ahead. Theres lots to do and see here including a fishing pond for the kids, food, arts and crafts on sale, face painting, and then the large barn with food to buy for eating or food products to buy for later. They were also baking and interesting condiments and cooking tools available. Lots of covered tables near the fishing pond for sitting, relaxing and eating. Easy parking in the orchard. Parking lot as well. Elderly or those who may be disabled should know that going to these orchards can be risky as theres gravel and rocks that one must navigate and things are not flat or paved. We were glad we left our fragile elderly at home.

As much as I wanted to enjoy my experience here with my son, it was just too crowded and chaotic. The lines for everything were so long starting with the traffic jam that took 30min - 45min to just get into the ranch and park. I was hoping for a more laid back relaxed country experience but instead it had a more was fair ground carnival vibe. It was just way to crowded for me to want to go back any time soon.

This was my first time in Apple Hill and my friends who drove from the bay area decided to stop at High Hill Ranch. I live an hour or so away from Apple Hill and have only been in this area for about a year. I was so excited to visit Apple Hill. The apple farm grounds is very nice. Lots of people today being the day before Halloween! There was lots of arts and crafts from local artists. Some were over the top pricey which I thought was in bad taste but others were great and it was nice to take something back home from Apple Hill. We ate in the Pie House which my bff and I regretted. So many people inside and very chaotic. We should have eaten at the taco stand next to the wine shop and cider store. There is the Fudge Factory but today was not the day to visit there. Small small place but yet they let the fudge factory be so crowded inside that I couldnt look around. I got out so quickly!! That was very disappointing to me. There was no one really managing the place at all. Dont waste your time in the Fudge Factory if you visit High Hill Ranch. I am looking forward to visiting other areas of Apple Hill soon.

Even though its getting crowded, its still the apple hill scene I grew up enjoying. Might cost a small fortune to fish out of the pond, but assuming the weather is decent-its hard not to find something to enjoy between the market style fruit stand, bake shops and small vendors.

High Hill Ranch is a part of our familys fall traditions. We come here first thing in the morning for cider and donuts. Our kids like to play around the lake and watch the fishing. They have ridden the ponies before, and they loved it, but theres always a long line and the price is high for participating more than once. There are plenty of restrooms and porta-potties available, which is really nice. Theres usually something new each time, like face painting or a balloon artist.We usually check out some of the craft vendors and then head out to another farm for apple picking. Its a great place to start our Apple Hill Day.This year was the most crowded weve ever seen it! The parking attendants are always so organized, and its really appreciated since theres so many different places to park.

Their apple donuts are delicious! We went there today, Dec. 12, 2021. It was drizzling. Not too many people. If you go there during the peak season, September/October, expect the line to be long. Apple pie at the Pie House is great! But I dont recommend buying your lunch there or any meal. Its just too expensive for mediocre meal.

Stopped by High Hill Ranch in all fairness its listed as one of the most visited, but was still surprised at just how crowded it was.Seemed to have endless parking in orchards once actual lot is full but then when we walked towards the action it gets very difficult to walk through the crowds, so if crowds are not your thing you might not enjoy this.Lots of shops & craft vendors all over, hayrides, little fishing pond, market.I will say got an Apple Cider slushy and it was sooooo good must try this if you go.Honestly got to hard to see anything and lines were long every where so didnt stay here longUpdated October 2022Visited close to closing time so that might have been part of it. It was still busy but not so insanely crowded that you couldnt move and get around.I remembered the apple cider slushies and was on my way back from Tahoe and wanted to stop and get one. Theres a bunch of individual buildings on the property so for those you have to go to the one labeled fudge factory. There is another building that has wine slushies if youre interested in those.It was much more enjoyable to be able to move so just keep in mind busy peak times and try and visit around that

This place is so fun for all ages. Went with my sister and law and our kids and we all had a great time. We enjoyed apple beer, she had chili cheese fries and I loved the veggie burger. The kids loved the airbrush tattoos, pony rides and little obstacle course hayfield.

Lively and big touristy area. I would highly reccomend getting the apple fritter. Some of the other stuff is kind of overpriced and not that special (hard apple cider is not worth the $8!) Theres lots of booths that sell random stuff. It can be quite busy here with a ton of people ramping up around noon. There were a few food trucks in the area, the hotdog was from there and looked better than the restaurant on site in my opinion. The blueberry donut is okay, but cool to try. Definitely should try the other apple donuts available since its special.

I grew up coming here every fall. The fishing was great for the kids and the man running the fishing area was kind. Helpful, professional, and overall made the experience worth it. My kids caught their first fish here. It was a little pricey but the guaranteed fish catching was so worth it for my kids smiles and fun!!! I love apple Hill. Its nostalgic at worst, and so much fun for the kids at best.

A super relaxing and enjoyable place to spend the day. It can get crowded on weekends, so try and get here early in the day when less people are out (plus its normally much cooler). There are tons of booths selling all kinds of knick knacks. Theres also a store with all kinds of apple products and produce as well as a little restaurant with food and pies (cooked and uncooked) for sale. The pond is a nice touch and adds to the scenic beauty of the area. While this will probably be your first stop while visiting Apple Hill, make sure to check out all of the other locations further off the highway as well!

This was my first to here and to the Apple Hill region. Its a very beautiful area with multiple orchards and wineries. I recommend arriving early because this place gets packed by 10am, plus the whole area becomes high traffic. High hill ranch is super busy and there are lots of crowds. This is definitely a family oriented place and there were a lot of kids enjoying the day. The fishing pond is a nice touch and there were many fish being caught. There a nice variety of food and drink options as expected but the lines were long that day.

Years ago we drove our little two-year-old boy out there and had a great time. They have lots of treats to discover that are delicious and homemade. That was probably the best apple pie I have ever had. The one thing I would ask them to make would be their own pumpkin beer. Mixing cider with light beer is not the same. Really great place for families, I remember there being a market with lots of neat treasures to explore.

Apple Hill is always a lot of fun to go to.Many different booths of people who are selling various and different items.Lots of good food and a great atmosphere plus ample walking space for a crowd of people.A nice place to go for a while for a date but not enough to entertain someone or enjoy yourself for a full day.Still worth going and spending time if you have never been.

I thought this place was beautiful. It hosts various apple (the fruit smh) products and little shops full of trinkets. I stop and spoke with a woman who made my Batman beanie out of a fleece blanket. I spoke with another woman who takes small individual chains and forms them into links that make outfits. There was so much character and beauty.

If you are going to Apple Hill and only have time for one stop, go to High Hill. Best Donuts on the trip- Apple critters and cake donuts (Apple, blueberry, pumpkin, blackberry). Not to mention pies, artisan shops, arts and crafts. We make the trip every year- as all people in Sacramento do.

We were able to bring our family up for a beautiful weather sun shiny day. The place was busy but not overcrowded, we got to watch they peeling apples to get ready for the pies. Also had fun at the fishing pond catching two good size fish. Had our dog with us too and never had a problem with him being there with us.

I have been coming to this apple ranch since I was a child and have seen it grow to the greatness it is today! Although busy, there is plenty of parking here, restrooms are kept clean and service is fast and friendly! They offer many open air areas with picnic tables to eat at including a large deck. In the pie house you will find lunch meals (we like the chili cheese fries), hot coffee/chocolate and pies. They also sell fresh apples at the market place area (parallel to the pond) along with a plethora of apple items. The apple cider is delicious! I also highly recommend their apple cider wine! Today we picked up a Sour Cream Apple pie to eat after dinner, as well as our ultimate favorite, Dutch Apple Pie. The Dutch pie we got frozen to keep for next months Thanksgiving! There is plenty to see and do here. From the arts and crafts vendors, face painting for the kids, fishing at the pond, the chocolate factory, pony rides and delicious apple everything, you are sure to find something for everyone in the family!

We loved it. We traveled from Mesa, Arizona (Phoenix Metropolitan area) to visit family in Rocklin and decided to visit! So glad we did! Came here on a Friday afternoon around 1pm....now Ill never come on a weekend!!!I usually come here every year on a weekend and it is ridiculously busy. We met up a few friends here and we all were able to park together and it was a breeze! In addition, there was no line for the donuts, caramel apples or ANYTHING!!! Our group had 4 adults and 7 kids and the kids were able to run wild in the grassy area and we had no trouble finding tables. Everyone working was very kind and welcoming. No masks were required minus getting your face painted but the kids are used to wearing masks so not a problem.The gentleman working the pony area accepted both cash and cards.Definitely looking forward to our next trip on a weekday!The caramel and chocolate dipped apple is to die for!!!! So AMAZING!!!! You have to get it!

Had a blast at high hill. My mom and I have to go every year for Christmas gifts. We ended our trip by having a beautiful bird sitting on my car. He stayed there until I opened the back passenger door. It was a beautiful experience.

We went apple picking at a nearby farm and decided to check this one out too. We mainly wanted some apple donuts so we found the line for that. Even though the line was very long, it moved quick! We also got some apple cider juice which was so fresh and delicious we wished we had room in our fridge to buy gallons of it. There are dozens of vendors with their wares. Fun to look at, but expensive to buy. There were way too many people for me. We didn’t even check everything out because we didn’t feel like dealing with all the people. We got our donuts and juice and were satisfied.

One of my favorite spots at Apple Hill. They have the most moist, delicious apple donuts! But I have to detract one star. We were enjoying their pond when the nice fishermen next to us were yelled at from across the pond by a worker who didn’t like that they were trying to catch and release without getting dirt on the fish, which they said was unhealthy. I understand there are rules that need to be followed, but the worker was very unprofessional, angry and rude. It made me uncomfortable and kind of turned me off from wanting to return.

We showed up super early to get in before they opened and the line was long. Its the biggest and busiest apple farm in the area so no surprise. When we got through to park, they wouldnt allow us to park in any of the handicap places. However, several cars in front of us were allowed to and even though there were several open spots they would t let us turn in. The difference between us and the cats ahead....skin tone? I assume. Please, if the owners have a more reasonable response to why I wasnt allowed to park in one of the many available handicap spots, Im willing to hear it. 10/21/2023: First time here, and it was PACKED! Parking in the orchard was full. Long line of cars trying to take the exit of the freeway to get to this place. When we finally got in, the lines were so long to get donuts & fritters, but it went quickly because they had a lot of stations to place and pick up orders. Definitely not the High Hill of my youth, its turned into a crowded, line-filled experience. Though the caramel apple was amazing (maybe the biggest reason to go) and the pies continue to be the best around, the apples I purchased were soft and not as fresh-picked as they should have been. I had high expectations since this place was so popular, but I was sadly disappointed. High Hill Ranch has been neglecting maintenance. The first thing I noticed while waiting in line, was the large patch of black mold growing on the bathroom ceiling. The adjacent wall didnt look much better. Guessing a roof leak from last winter.The toilet seats were nearly falling off and worn out too. The stall I used didnt even have a toilet seat. Of course there were no seat covers. One stall even has a sign telling users not to flush paper. Instead, there was a wastebasket full of soiled toilet paper. The bathroom was completely filthy and there wasnt a disabled stall. There were wide outhouses, I assume for those with a wheelchair. I wasnt about to attempt to use one of those given the actual bathrooms condition.Despite this, we still stayed because of how long it took to get there and park. We wandered around to see the vendor booths. There was an assortment of crafted items and things for sale. We got some amazing caramel apples. We also decided to try the apple pie, which was one of the main reasons we came. Mine was warm, but underbaked. The other was cold.Given how bad the bathroom was and all the spider webs I later saw, I now question my decision to eat anything from here. Spiders hang around places where their is food (other insects). The health department may want to visit this place. I hope this review gets High Hill Ranch to think about the health and safety of their patrons.

This is a very popular spot in Apple Hill, I believe it’s one of the first stands and largest. It seems like a lot of the farms are to the right after you see the Apple Hill sign and this is to the left so I felt like there was a little less traffic. There are a lot of vendors to look through and there’s a beautiful little lake to spend time at. Great place to get your Christmas shopping done as there are Crafts for days. I was disappointed with the caramel marshmallows. They used to be a marshmallow dipped in caramel wrapped in a bit of wax paper. They sold for 50 cents and were 2 bites of heaven. Now they cost $4. for a 2 ounce plastic cup stuffed with a marshmallow and caramel poured in. They just didnt taste the same. Even the caramel tasted different. I worked at High Hill for 15 years and it was always my favorite treat. But as they say all things change and in the 20 years I have been gone somewhere the caramel recipe got tweaked and the place grew. I didnt even bother with the pie house.

We have come here almost every year for the last 35+ years. In recent years its been so unfortunate to witness the decline of the customer service. All they care about is your money. The workers at the counters (especially the donut counter) are not happy, unfriendly, and unhelpful. Nice experience for the first time around. Not recommended for repeat visit. Unfortunately, food is over-rated esp the apple pies. We tried the most popular items from the most popular places and were disappointed by all food.

Great fall experience with tons of vendors and lots for families to do. Has donuts, caramel apples, pies, sandwiches, etc. Get there early! It is a steady stream of cars from 9 am to early afternoon!

Posting for all the parents trying to find stuff to do with their kids right now. I dont want to pan this place because its totally not their fault, but it was CROWDED on a Tuesday! Like crawling with people. Most had on masks but still it was too many people for my comfort. Also not much for the kids to do since pony and hay rides are closed due to covid. Again totally not their fault, but it is what it is.We did eat a delicious caramel apple next to the trout pond and made a candle together at a booth nearby. However one of the kids hanging out with his mom (the owner of the booth?) was coughing! He had on a mask but yikes. He was the one who handed us the finished candle so now Im going to be super paranoid for the next week. 😒Anyway I think that during normal times this place would be a total home run. But covid is just making everywhere crowded and hence, risky.Many apologies to the lovely people working there because I definitely feel like its a great place and absolutely none of this is something that they can control! (except maybe the coughing kid at the booth.) This review is really for other parents to make an informed choice about making the trek. Hope it helps someone!

Nice place for some fall festivities. If you are super cautious of COVID, I would not recommend. It didnt seem like masks were enforced. But, nice outing overall. Good place for Instagram pics too.

The place is a super spreader filled with people who do not wear masks at all and no social distancing. Very high risk area and Im sure it wont be a hotspot soon and it shouldnt be that way this pandemic will be around for a long time because of people who are running that place they do nothing to ensure the rules are followed.

What used to be a FUN time has really just become a money hungry commercialized thing. Bought a very over priced apple pie to take home and bake only to end up with a pie full of liquid with absolutely no flavor. It was the worst pie I have ever had in my life. It went straight into the garbage.

This is a must stop farm if youre new to Apple Hill farms but because of its popularity it is very busy and there are always a lot of visitors on weekends. There are smaller farms that are just as enjoyable but High Hill has craft vendors, pony rides for small kids, the pond and the best pies. Sour Cream Apple is our go to!!

This is a nice apple farm to enjoy the apple atmosphere of Apple Hill. A nice duck pond, deck to have lunch, Pines, apples and apple donuts. They also have many vendors setup at the property.

Love love love high hill ranch! Pet, baby & family friendly yet still a great spot for couples and friend groups! Handicapped and paved parking. Much of the main area is wheelchair accessible.All of the farms are wonderful but if you have time for just one HIGH HILL offers something for everyone... great place for kids with pony rides, pumpkin patch, hay ride, face painting, candle making, stocked pond, pick your own apples orchard, so many activites and incredible variety and shopping.Plenty of restrooms, porta, potty and indoor facilities where you can wash your hands. dogs are allowed (on a leash) so many cute dressed puppies and dogs were thereThis is the farm that has the apple doughnuts baked fresh everyday and the handmade candy and sweets shop ... the place with DOZENS of homemade FUDGE types.... so fresh so good... The fudge candy shop tends to have a long line, but it is Definitely worth the wait. So many sweets, what makes it stand out? More than any big city candy shop....... most everything in this farms sweets and candy selection is created by hand om farm or locally. So fresh!There are a booths you can get lunch or dinner and lots of outdoor seating and there is a lovely logcabin style restaurant where they serve hot food and an indoor place to sit and eat... my favorite is the piled high with steak...tri tip steak sandwiches Pulled pork sandwiches and much moreFresh pies including one of my new favorites: apple berry sour cream....it has a dutch apple crumble topping.And of course, there is the general store where you can purchase so many varieties of apples, sauces, dressings, apple peelers, pie crusts, dried soups with beans or minestrone etc etc. well as mixes to make your own scones, pancakes, popovers, and other fruit & apple creations at home, as well as pretty much any apple related thing you can think of. .. Beef jerky, cookie kits and tubs of homemade caramel which are soft and delicious! They have many different caramel and chocolate covered apples, and the coating wasnt hard... so tender and easy to bite into.... golden delicious apples dipped into many different carmel and specialty like butterfinger and smore apples yum!!But thats not all.....This farm has so much shopping... its the one with craft fair and vendor booths... most all booths have handmade wares. Beautiful unique and upscale crafted works of beauty and art. Jewelry booths,So many unique items! Handcrafted jewelery novelty gifts, toys, hats and shoes, stained glass and etched mirror, handcrafted wooden cutting boards and other kitchen handcrafted items, amazing artist photogrphs on unique material. Large garden statues, windchimes, sculptures, hand knitted or sewn clothing and accessories for babies, children and adults! Plus a wonderful booth with so many rocks, crystals, natural and some rare...every grade of them; plus semiprecious stones ranging in age, size, quality, Shape etc... polished and rough... loose and with setting ... pendants, rings, Chakra stones, pendulums, crystal balls, stone fossilized extimct creatures, geodes of every size...even a 2+ tall beautiful amethyst one....It is a must visit farm they are open until christmas.... Be sure to get a gallon of fresh squeezed apple juice or apple cider

My 2nd attempt at the High Hill Ranch to acquire an apple fritter and the girl there made it impossible to purchase one. I will not return! You won’t get a 3rd time. I didn’t buy a donut the 2nd time. Seems to be the same employee who isn’t willing to go the distance for customer assistance by going to another rack to grab what you want to purchase.

Even as locals, this is always a stop for us in Apple Hill. Going early or mid-week will help avoid the chaos of the crowds this place brings. It is always fun walking through the craft booths and sitting on the grassy hill watching the kids catching fish. The fudge factory is always our last stop on the way out.

It was the most scenic and authentic of the many orchards we visited. It had an olde west atmosphere which included a beautiful pond which served as our selfie backdrop. We bought a huge caramel candy apple not seen elsewhere. 🍎🌳📸 🥧🍽️🍺

My family and I make our annual pilgrimage to High Hill Ranch every fall. There are fun activities for kids, lots of local businesses selling handcrafted wares, and I especially love all the delicious food 😋. Parking can be tricky as well as the exit off of I-50 since they blocked many of the eastbound turn lanes but it’s only an hour away from our house and it’s well worth the drive!

It was my first time here, and I must say....it was great. Despite the crowd of pie lovers (including me), the line moved pretty quickly, and there were plenty of tables for everyone to find a spot. The facilities were clean and parking well organized. Great place to bring the family. The drive wasnt bad either. Recommended (plan ahead for a full day experience) from the drive to visiting a couple of local places you dont want to be in a rush. Enjoy! 🙂

We come here for the apple fritters. They are the best. We arrived fairly early, but it was already crowded. The weather was cool with sprinkles off and on. There did not seem to be as many vendors as usual. Not sure why. This made for a quicker stop than usual. The line for the fritter was long, but went down quickly. We always stop here 1st, so I hope there is more to see and experience next time.

Love this place normally, but nothing in the park was really open this time other than the restaurant and a couple vendors. Very disappointing after seeing all the promotions about opening weekend. It felt like they didnt plan well and the customers had to suffer. They were also out of many food and beverage options. There also werent any apples to buy at APPLE HILL.
