Its a little on the small size, narrow isles. But theres never a long line to check out and a decent selection. The produce dept is pretty decent.

OK. I didnt originally Like this development, a chain store moving in on one of my favorites chains, (The old Andronicos) but I have to give credit where credit is due. The Deli in the store, is GREAT, and the people that work there, (Danny and the crew)are KILLING the deli sandwich game. I regularly get a LOADED turkey bacon avocado, and it is always out of this world.So I am more than happy with this place and the workers there are always ultra cool. Now my go to for a serious sandwich. Picture here, is my new favorite, Toscano salami sandwich on sourdough, is the best sandwich in the neighborhood hands down. And thats because of the cool people that work at this deli.

Higher end foods than Safeway, itsparent company. Niman Ranch bacon and pork, Marys chicken, Snake River Farms wagyu beef. Nice selection of ethnic ingredients. Smallish store so dont expect youll find everything. Parking is usually easy.

Good selection of food. Great produce. Noticed that both the bread and eggs cost more than I could afford. Probably distribution problems. The register person spoke to her coworker all during my check out. That was odd. The bagging person wes very nice and I thanked them, as I usually do.

Smaller grocery store with a pretty limited selection -- its an interesting mix of Safeway items and more upscale options, just very few of each. But it has all the basics - deli, produce, snacks, etc. They have a huge parking lot which makes it convenient but not my go-to store.

Quick run in for essentials from juice, vegetables, fruit and meat.I hate to mention this only because I dont want it sold out when I come; they have a large selection of to go meals and sides.My favorite is the homemade chicken pot pie, it is the best one I have ever tasted. The creamy sauce, real vegetables, chunks of chicken with flaky buttery crust, top and bottom, this would be hard to beat.The staff is very helpful,they always have sanitized baskets, they are stocking shelves and bins fast, check out is is quick. Check out the flower and plant selection!

We had a very blatantly rude, disrespectful experience with a cashier named Leanna. My husband felt it was racially motivated. She literally would not greet or acknowledge our greeting or say one word to us. Neither did the bagger. It made the cashier seem mean and appear to have a nasty attitude. But the white person behind us was greeted with a friendly tone and asked about bag preferences. When you as a cashier or a store pick and choose who gets treated with courtesy and even acknowledged you are creating a divisive hostile shopping experience. We’ve never had this happen at Andronicos. Very disappointing. We won’t be going out of our way to shop here from now on.

Quaint smaller scale Safeway chain with emphasis on the deli, cheese, wine and meat counters for a more adult grocery shopping experience. Dont go looking for fruit snack, drink box, cheese doodles etc. Oh I almost forgot. Great parking in rear

Andronicos in Berkeley is a great place to shop for groceries. I love this place. Yes, it is more expensive; but the experience is also much better than at a place like Safeway (nearby) and Monterrey Market. Because Andronicos is generally more expensive than the other area grocery stores, it is also much less crowded than everywhere else. That alone is nearly worth the extra cost.The staff here is always friendly, always fast and always efficient. From the higher ups to the baggers, everyone just seems happy to be there. Management must be treating the employees well and I like that and am willing to pay a little more because of it.The store is not huge, but the selection is really good. They carry many products that I cant get at other grocery stores. There are many specialty items, but they also have all the staples. The deli makes good sandwiches and they have a lot of decent prepared foods for the nights that I dont feel like cooking.The store is very clean, especially the meat department. That is really important to me. I hate to see a messy butcher area. Also the butchers here are very friendly and always smile when I am getting stuff. They have also helped me source items that they themselves did not have in stock, like a fresh Turkey in early October. The produce section is very nice and clean and well displayed as well.One downside is, of course, the prices, but I understand that this is smaller business and they cannot get the same distribution pricing as the larger stores. They make up for it in customer experience.The only other downside for me is that they dont make chicken tenders often enough. I wish they made them everyday. I love chicken tenders and theirs are very good, especially compared to the dry and stale chicken tenders at the nearby Safeway. Andronicos, please make more chicken tenders! Or at least put up a sign that tells me when you are going to cook them, so I dont miss eating them.All in all, this is a great store. If you care about the quality of your experience more than the price, this is the place to shop.

Excellent customer service. Store is located in great area. Plenty of street parking. Handicap accessible. Store is very clean and stocked well. Meat is fresh and local. Lots of vegan items and organic. Prices are on the high end. Thanks to the store team and butcher for answering my questions.

I am not a Safeway fan at all, but this is a sweet store. They have been great during Covid19. The store is clean and they limit the number of customers. I also like the clientele. Everyone makes ot work. A nice neighborhood store.

OMG the deli is q catastrophe!IHave gone air a few times and ALWAYS had a negative experience.The turkey is soon dry, their house made roast beef is (and this is on 3 different occasions mind you) raw! Its blue!!!I told the site director after buying sliced roast beef and house made turkey.He basically did nothing, said he would let them know. I had a sandwich made for me, the person left the deli, went somewhere in the back, came back wearing the same gloves that she just started making my sandwich with, and continued touching my sandwich! I leftBTW I have been a chef at UC Berkeley for 10+ years serving students!!!TERRIBLE12/31/21Thought I would give 1more chance.Bought some Prociutto di Parma ($25/#) it was sliced too thick, almost 1/8, when you are it you are left with a bunch of sinew (conective tissue) in hot mouth!! Now I guess I have to take it back! Couldnt use it for New years eve party! Also purchased coppa that was edible but was still sliced too thick, should have been thinner!! Nice store with good layout. Improved since Safeway brought back local suppliers of gourmet and special foods. The deli, meat, dessert and prepared food bats are almost as good as the old Andronicos.

Better sandwich shop than some sub places. Fresh bread, better choices: foccacia, sour dough, ciabatta, etc. Lots of different spreads, oils, vinegar, etc. Tons of meat, cheese choices. Always fresh, hand-made. Fabulous staff!

Loved this place when it was Andronicos, but under new management of Safeway, this place has become real bad. The old staff who stayed are unhappy, the new staff are indifferent and generally unhelpful, and this week the apple turnovers I bought were moldy inside. Yeah, they refunded it, but that is beyond gross- the quality of this market is significantly lower than Andronicos, a place I loved and miss.

I like this Safeway; theres others relatively close by, but theres a certain charm to this one. Maybe its because its in average smaller yet somehow more effectively organized. It used to be an Andronicos, and more or less has carried the banner; youll find a few products that you wouldnt otherwise find in other Safeways. Similarly, is say they dont necessarily carry everything under the Sun and it happens with other supermarkets, including other Safeways, but still manage to have a very good selection.

Fidelina is the worst sandwich maker ever. I was the only person ordering a sandwich and she kept speaking very fast, too fast to understand. It felt as if she was rushing me. Once done with my sandwich I start walking to the line to pay and realize she didnt even heat the bacon up. So I walk back to tell her its not warm and she tells me yes it is and opens my sandwich and touches the bacon and says it again. Yea I heated it up. So then I just said ok whatever you say grabbed my sandwich and left... I totally forgot that the employee is always right . What was I thinking asking her to heat up my bacon

Short Version: Best of both worlds!Longer Version: This is a Safeway that used to be an Andronicos. Therefore it is a little smaller than a traditional Safeway, but not by much. They also have all the best things about Andronicos like the Adult Brownie, hot food bar, and their rotisserie chickens are a little juicier!The only real con is their pastry section is a little more limited. They have a bunch of the great cookies and cakes from Andronicos, but the actual Safeway pastries are limited. They do have the Brookie though. (Brownie on bottom, chocolate chip cookie on top -flipping delicious!)They have the selection and prices of Safeway, but keep the boutique community vibe.

Request for no plastic in weighing and wrapping your meat order is almost beyond their comprehension and capabilities. Requested single roll paper wrapped toilet tissue and the answer is NO. 4 stars because the staff is unfriendly, being Latinos, they see it reluctantly and when I approached to ask a question about something that I couldnt find, the very arrogant girl answered me... what a shame because as a Latina I am happy to see Latin people in The store is American but I am disappointed with the treatment and I continue to maintain the same comment for several months...
