Great nature preserve! You will see lots of wildlife, and they have info about the indigenous life that is native to this area. Great for the family or for a rejuvenating stroll through the woods. Highly recommend this place for anyone at any time!

REALLY NICE! Huge grassy areas. Reserved picnic areas. Nice trails. River access within a 5 min walk. Lots of parking. Next to a nature preserve...came across a calving doe! Saw a group of baby ducks. Dogs allowed on a leash.

I have been to this park before, but I went on this day because I wanted to document the salmon habitat restoration. I usually try to take more beautiful and artistic photos, and although I did get a couple of pretty good ones, these photos are just for me and others to remember the way it was as we look back someday to this beautiful area!

Beautiful park, excellent place to take a walk down by the river. You can also have a barbecue with family and friends, or just kick back and relax under the gorgeous trees. Truly a hidden gem in the Carmichael area.

Walked the loop trail surrounding the park. It was about 3 miles. All parking lots had access to the trail. Trail is about 70% shaded.

Way too many walkers by 7:30 in the morning. On the upside its beautiful and you have choices of different walking trails. Dogs are not allowed in the nature center area . Nice golf course

Theres a Nature Center with plenty of educational exhibits, both inside and outside. Theres also some animals inside. There are hiking trails, all very low difficulty. On my journey, I saw dozens of deer, some only a few feet away. There were close to one hundred turkeys, and one lonely coyote. The trails goo through the woods and alongside the American River. I thoroughly enjoyed my journey!

The Ancil Hoffman Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Sacramento/Carmichael area. I frequent this park because it is well maintained and the patrons respect and want to keep this park as beautiful as how they found it. Seeing so many deer 🦌 today made my day magical! It was definitely an enjoyable treat! I’ve captured it in time by the attached photos and wanted to share it with you as well. It’s going to be an amazing day! ❤️

Very beautiful park. Took my kids on a nature walk. Only thing was the bathrooms where flooded and very messy. Seen lots of wildlife and I also tried to snap a picture of what I think I saw but I had my kids and was trying to get away from the area as fast as we could just incase it was what i thought i saw laying against the dirt. I was upset when I got to the car the picture didnt come out clear. 🤦‍♀️I will upload it but I did get some nice pictures of the 🦌 and the river was very beautiful

Love this park! Makes for a beautiful walk. Plenty of nature...hawks, geese, deer, an occasional coyote, and the American River. This is a great spot for bird watchers! You can also find shaded picnic tables.

Left after being here for only 15min. Tons of off leash dogs, when they’re only allowed on leash. Some of the trails also don’t allow dogs which is fine, but the ones that did had longer patches of gravel path (which was too hot for our dog on an 85 degree day). Parking is also $7, so we will never will be going here again.

A coyote was casually eating by the entrance today. The other wildlife I saw today was geese, ducks, and squirrels. Itd be nice if they had a place to get my dog a drink, but otherwise, a nice place for a walk to the river.

The kids had a blast this last Saturday! There were deer out and wild turkey wondering around. The weather was amazing! We walked the nature trails and seen a buck, many does, Turkeys, and hawks. Let the kids have a rock throwing contest to see who can throw the furthest in the river! My grandson is almost 4 and he had so much fun! The nature center was open, but it does close at 2PM and remember to bring your masks. After the nature walk we drove to the picnic area ate lunch and the kids broke up in to teams and played football. Recommend you make a day of it and bring lunch and have fun!

Love the place. It is a hidden gem. Took my elderly, wheelchair bound Mom to the public golf course inside the park to watch golfers on the course. Its a perfect place if you are looking for peacefulness, serenity, and nature watching too. They have a good onsite restaurant too. A perfect place to reflect and rest your mind.

A nice clean park, perfect place to hike and chill for the day, the park features a wide variety of wildlife with the inclusion of mountain lions (Although very rare) and deers, it also has a clean flowing river which offers a nice breeze on a hot day, with places to sit down and have a BBQ.Sublime on a nice sunny day, it is without doubt worth a visit if you appreciate the outdoors.

This park is such a treat, Theres an amazing golf course as well as a wonderful nature center Effie Yeaw. Theres also huge open areas for having fun or picnicking all tucked next to the American River and last but not least and one of my favorites is the cross country trail that wraps around the whole facility.....

Excellent Local Park. Thank you to the Historical Detering family for their donation of this location on our American River. Our County restrooms really work. Very hard to do in this day and age! We have lost many,many old Valley Oaks. Root Rot seems to one of the issues. Not old age. Valley Oaks roots root with summer surface watering. This appears to be an issue with these majestic centurion trees. One of the Redwoods near duck pond died a fee years back. Only one left in this side of the park. Believed to have been planted by Detering family friend and contemporary Effie Yeaw.Keep close eye out for our local wiley Coyotes. Theres a juvenile near the seventeenth hole that likes the Geese. Saw her jump ten feet in the air but missed the bird by that much.ENJOY EVERYTHING IF CAN FIND IT.

Nice open area with hiking trails and river access. Flower garden at the visitors center. Went in the winter, so I couldnt enjoy it. Did get to see live deer in the fields in the daytime, so that was a plus. Definitely will check it out again in the spring

Beautiful park with wonderful wildlife and bird watching opportunities. There is a nice building with some special animals and interesting information about the local fauna as well as some gift shop items. Its very inexpensive for parking and worth a visit for anyone who enjoys nature. The trails are ideal for a walk and the river is nearby.

Access to the river is a long walk across big rocks. Theres a really nice large field. Of course the Effie Yeaw center is here. We hiked the trail at the base of the bluffs which was a lovely walk.

Staff were helpful and friendly. Check in was quick and easy. Starter got us to our cart quickly and to the tee on time.Course was in great shape even though with all the rain that fell over the weekend. Mondays are a great day to play, not much pressure on the course.

Ive been coming to Hoffman since I was a kid and now I enjoy bringing my kids there. Its a beautiful park and place to see the river. We almost always see deer on our visits and if you come in the evenings when the sun is starting to go down its almost guaranteed. Park over in the nature center parking lot in the early evenings and meander around that area to see the deer coming out to graze. Lots of good walking trails and shaded places to have picnics or BBQs. Come explore and enjoy the beauty and peacefulness.

It may not have that big of animal collection, but it sure is one of the most beautiful places in Sacramento. My favorite is the river trail, beautiful nature and river sound melt all the stress away. The staff are really nice in Effie Yeaw especially Mr. Rudy, he is very knowledgeable and passionate about the nature and his art. Consider chipping in if you pay them a visit, all the donations go for the animals care and the park services.

For the size of the park it had a surprisingly few number of amenities. No playground for kids to use. It does have a large amount of green space for kids to run around in. Plenty of picnic tables and barbq pits are available at each set of tables. Plenty of nice large shade trees and access to the river to help you cool off on those hot summer days. Restroom facilities are available. Park sits adjacent to the golf course and there are walking trails that go around the perimeter of the park. No designated areas for pets. This park has a great set up for corporate or large family functions.

Very nice secluded park area. Entrance to park hidden in a nice quiet neighborhood. Features a golf course, nature center, trails for running and walking and open fields. Usually i just bring the kiddos here to hang out by the river wheneverwe have some extra down time in the area. We like to throw rocks and watch the ducks.

This has always been a lovely park but grass mowing has been seriously neglected this year. Star thistle is out of hand and plantain is over a foot tall in places. If it were mowed on a regular schedule, huge clumps of grass wouldn’t be scattered over the acreage.

This park is our favorite. Huge oaks, rolling greens, and a cool river.The parking is only $6, I think it should be more.I appreciate how security makes sure the homeless dont overrun the place. In my opinion the security is unsung heroes of the place along with the gardening staff.

Great park, you dont have to pay much to enter the park $5. Its near a golf course across the park itself (whoever might be interested in golfing later or in future) - I dont know anything about the golf course by the park though-They have pathways to walk your dogs or walk individually. The only small issues there might be is that there might be a bit of steep walk down to the river (for some people).Another thing that some people might not like is that the bathroom is a bit too far away from the lake and the parking is limited (again it depends for everyone).There is a limit in parking (good amount but can be tough to find a spot in peak hours).Otherwise, I would say that this is a great place, good tables(you can cover them with tablecloth if anything), beautiful nature and beautiful place in general.This location is nice for family, pets and individual walks or picnics or any other occasion.In general, would I recommend this park? Yes, I would recommend this park for anyone who wants to go outside, celebrate, and/or explore and relax in nature.Everyone has their own tastes of course, this is how I view the park. Anyone who wants to see it in person for their own curiosity, personal knowledge, or even for their own personal experience are welcome to do so.I hope everyone has a great day! Ancil Hoffman is a great place to play golf and retire to the bar after completing a round or practicing. The William Bell designed course is well maintained and is a challenging test of golf.The staff is very welcoming, from Zach in the pro shop to Heather, Sofia and Raquel in the bar.Join the Mens Club, its the best deal in town!

This has always been a favorite of mine. Im not a golfer so all I can say about that part is its absolutely beautiful. With ducks and geese waddling around and deer laying in shaded areas or grazing in the taller grasses. Plenty of shade from the oak and other kinds of trees throughout.I also recommend a nature walk on the trails, Youll see all the animals àlready mentioned and more. Wild turkeys, squirrels everywhere and many different kinds of birds. You may even see a lizard and/or snake if youre lucky.Then of course there is the river. My favorite part of this beautiful park. I DO NOT recommend trying to swim in this river without a life vest 🦺 at the very least. I do recommend floating in a raft or river tubes or other inflatables designed for river use. So many possibilities. Just enjoy! 😁

Anvil Hoffman is one of the great parks . So the river has history and certain indigenous people had called this place home three generations ago and beyond. A wonderful nature center has been placed here to remind us of all our roots here along this stretch of the American river. Many a trail to blaze. Many a wild animal as well as many a rattle snakes depending on where you end up in the park . There is a full golf course and lounge all with Clovis measures in place. This park has more roots and is super low key. I hope all can visit this place and really soak in what it can offer. For myself this place seems so heavenly . One of the greatest areas in the world . There is a chance my view is slightly bias. The river is amazing, fun, deadly, beautiful and breath taking. As always enjoy with AWARENESS of this.

This is a great park for the whole family. There are picnic benches, trails for walking, river access and much more! The Effie Yeaw Nature Center is also located inside this park. Parking is $5 per day unless you purchase an annual membership pass which gets you free parking all year. The nature center is a cute area where you can see animals, some are rescued animals. You can find snakes, owls, birds inside and dear and turkey on the trails outside. There are a couple of bathrooms on the park premises and also free life jackets to use on the river. Theres no play ground for kids but lots of space to run around so much to explore! There is also a golf course, putting range, and a restaurant on site. Lots of people walk their dogs here in the mornings and evenings. Its a great park to visit all year!

Had a wonderful time hanging out at the Ancil Hoffman nature center! The place once again was beautiful and the grounds were very clean and well kept! While hanging out on the American River I was pleased and very surprised to not see one ounce of litter or trash anywhere! The river was beautiful and majestic as always! I love this place, kids too. We walk the trails, (some which are handicap accessible to a degree). Also a small nature center. They have animals that are healthy, but unable to survive in wild. These are used for nature education/awareness in the community. Very clean and well kept. Golf course on site as well

Great place to go and enjoy the outdoors without going to far. Theres access to american river for swimming and fishing. Dont go on busy days like fathers day because there are alot of people there that ar Gilling meat and we all know that what goes in must come out. So by the evening theres no toilet paper. Great park. Golf course on site as well as a native american historical area, and river access. Do yourself a favor and check it out if you havent already. And if you have, go back and discover something new. Did you know there is a bamboo thicket that makes an archway leading to another bend in the river? No? This was a really fun place to hang out. We brought our kids and they all had fun. Make sure youre ready to walk on a lot of rocks and you bring a life jacket. The kids cant go out too far in the water because of the current but they were happy with being able to go at all. Its very pretty also

We love Main Event! Great place to catch a game with a cold beer and fries (we love the sweet potato fries). Service is great, you can sit on the patio and watch the first tee drives and swap golf stories with the locals. Food prices are very reasonable, wish they offered a full breakfast though! They also have a trivia night and live entertainment some weekends.

Its an amazing getaway hidden in the middle of Sacramento proper. A golf course, driving range, a wonderful nature center and best of all nature trails. The deer and wildlife are so sweet to see and enjoy in their natural habitat. Its my favorite walk and run trails. 3.25 miles around. The blackberries are a wonderful treat in the summer!

We love this place it is good for a variety of things. Rafting, sitting in th e beach, walking your dog or just getting in a good walk. The golf course is really nice as well. Everytime I have been parking is easy to find, everyone is friendly. I have never bbqed out there but I see people doing it. The park is big lots of shady trees. The river access is really easy to find.

Theres a VERY nice dirt path all along the American River @ the edge of the golf course fairways which wrap almost all around the golf course. AND there is excellent river access & a free life jacket station!! Looks like a pretty nice restuarant @ the 19th hole. 🤣😁IF you are a serious hiker, there are advanced hiking trails thru the north-end adjacent naturepreserve, all along the waters edge & the foothills south & west along the golf course.And dont forget to see the Visitors Center just a quarter mile west of the golf course, just follow the signs.Dont try driving out that way -- major tire damage!! Only peds & bikes can fit thru the barrier! 😏😋

The park is located in the Carmichael area and offers lots of nature to see. Theres actualy a little nature center that most people dont even know is tucked away inside. The park cost $5 to drive in and park, but if youre going to the Golf Course I dont think that you have to pay. If you like riding horses I believe that you can do that there as there is a coral for horses near the entrance for the park (and a lot to unload and load horses) there are wild dear, turkey and the sort roaming around, so dont be surprised if you find that too. Careful not to go to far off the trails as there are rattle snakes seen from time to time, but Ive never encountered one myself. If you like sitting on the river bank, golfing, going for a nice nature walk, or just flying a kite, you can do that there.

The other side is better for biking. The picnic section could be cleaner. There are Golf Field, Natural Area, and Picnic Zone (large parking lot). Theres nothing to do if youre just biking. No great views on the river. Oh and this place doesnt have free parking

Well, the park is beautiful but my sister in law fell in the River Path.She broke her ankle and couldnt walk. So unfortunately we got to try the Rangers service.I must say the Rangers are great in providing emergency services with the 911 fireman personnel ambulance. Thank you all for being so helpful!

For me, the best park in the Sacramento (metro area). I usually take a loop trail to walk, 1 hour. Each time you see the changing beauty of the nature. I must drive about 30 minutes to get there but it worth it.

I really like this park. There are many nooks to discover from the wildlife preserve to several river settings to golf and wild turkeys. Keep in mind there is a $5 entrance fee, but there are some places to park outside of the park and walk in.

Its a beautiful place to see nature. They have a nature preserve were you can see wildlife in its natural habitat. We often see different kinds of hawks, vultures, egrets coyotes and deers.They also have great programs at the Effie yeaw Nature Center. You can see some of their captive rescued animals and they have a great program for kids.

There is a $5 charge ALWAYS to park. You must self pay if there is not attendant. You must have a credit/debit card or $5 cash, exact change is necessary. They will ticket you for no proof. They will ticket you if you only have 1 license plate too. Other than that, its a beautiful park to take the whole family too. Right on the American River you can golf and take in nature. Ancil Hoffman is a park, yes. But also includes a spectacular nature center, Effie Yue as well as a beautiful 18 hole golf course that bears the same name as the park. The course is well laid out but it is definitely a course you shouldnt play if you are just learning how to golf. Have fun and enjoy the wildlife!

Nice facilities: great nature center with fantastic programs, very nice golf course and well maintained, river frontage with quintissential NorCal native environment, good dog walking on paved or dirt trails, BBQ and picnic tables with loads of green spaces for large or small gatherings with shady oaks for hot summer days. Cool, clean river for swimming with free life jackets, horse arena and trails, wide open meadows for kites and sports, so much in one park. I wish the roadside maintenance was better. Sagging fences and overgrown weeds, very aged pavement and tattered signage make the park appear to be a neglected public facility from the curb view. There is so much good in the park it could be stellar with a little more care. It is a huge park and I guess too costly to keep it up in a manner deserving of a fine facility. But then, Im a landscape architect so I notice such things.

We had a great time till we seen our neighbors having a party wich were hispanic or mexican idk but they had a party they all walked down to the water. Asian people in 5 cars were warned to leave after 1 man came back to check on there stuff The asian people tryed to fight them because they asked them to take all the trash they left on the spot that the hispanics people reserved and the asian people started to drink and sit in their area.We also noticed they started to touch the stuff they had became very scary for my children we got our things and decided to leave .. I just wanted to leave this as a reminder to anyone this place didnt look safe, the people called the rangers and they showed up 1 hr later after something worst could have happened.. I hope the people that reserved are ok and should get there money back! That must have been awful and no Rangers in sight!! Before they left they started kicking and throwing all their food, it was so sad.. Rangers didnt look like they were going to do anything and shoukd look around more Smh..

Ive lived next to Ancill Hoffman Park for many years. I dont golf but I walk in the park on the horse trail nearly every single day including along the American River. Wildlife and fauna of revery season makes every walk enjoyable. And there is the fabulous Effie Yaw nature center included where there are additional nature trails and a rescue facilities and displays for many critters.

I have been going to Ancil Hoffman Park with my mother and sister ever since I can recall, well, recalling anything :). This is one of the best kept, beautiful and historically rich parks you can visit in the Sacramento area. Not only is the wildlife protected there but the trails offer amazing views, versatile terrain and even historical information on the wildlife locally, The herbs grown in the area and Native American tribes including there involvement in the area. AHP has amazing fishing year round as its and integral part of the American River and has many river access points. A complete top level golf course. Ample parking. An educational nature centre with tours offered in spring and summer and parks with charcoal BBQs provided on site. This place is one I have enjoyed countless times with my family as a child, my friends growing up, my children, as I am the proud parent of two myself and hopefully they will share this beautiful place with there children and there children after. Please dont miss out on the opportunity to take in all Ancil Hoffman Park has to offer. ENJOY!!

Just wanted to share this information with everyone, since Ancil is a local gem, and I see some confusion in the comments below...You do have to pay for parking....unless you visit the golf course or the pro shop. All it takes to get in is to tell the ranger at the gate pro shop, and you wont be bothered further. I wouldnt go park at Effie Yeaw, that makes it pretty clear you arent hitting the links. Hope this keeps more money in your pocket and less in the states hands.

Great place to go for a walk/jog or whatever your into. Trails are slightly uneven so dont attempt to jazzercise while enjoying this park. Thankfully, Ancil Hoffman offers a lot of shade so its great for strolling on a hot day so as not to turn into a human piece of bacon. Overall I like this place, so why shouldnt you? This is the best nature walk in the area. In the late fall you will often be walking with in a few yards of wild deer, Turkeys and other animals. Towards the back of the park is the American River.

Meh. The rangers here are dicks. They seem to selectively enforce a ridiculous leash rule. If you look monied they probably wont bother you for playing fetch with your dog on the huge grassy area. A lot of the leaves are removed making it easy to find your ball just off the fairway. Still a little muddy in the fairways but expected this time of year. Greens are good, med speed.
