The Bay Area real estate buying experience can be very trying, but Alex made our experience easier than we thought it could have been. Alexs knowledge of the various areas within Marin County allowed us to feel educated about the different neighborhoods during the search process. In a time with very limited inventory, Alex was still able to show us a good volume of places and helped guide us through the process of evaluation. Ultimately, Alex found us a pocket listing in our favorite neighborhood that we ended up buying. My husband, two kids and I were moving back to the Bay Area for a job relocation and were torn on Marin vs East Bay vs Peninsula at the start of our search. We ultimately landed on our dream home in Corte Madera with Alex’s help! We were first introduced to Alex for our Marin focus via a friend who had purchased her house through him in Mill Valley and had a great experience. Not only did Alex need to help us graciously transition from a family real estate friend who had been previously helping us (explaining the value of having someone with local insights and off market connections and maturely and thoughtfully talking to our friend and even went as far as offering a referral fee), but he was a joy to work with from start to finish. Our kids literally call him “uncle Alex”.We discussed at length what we were looking for, things that were important to us and less important as well as our budget parameters. He helped us focus on the neighborhoods we were mostly prioritizing, but also expanded our horizons slowly and we ended up buying a home in a completely different city than we’d originally targeted. We were on a bit of a tight timeline for a number of reasons and Alex was super responsive throughout, arranged tours for homes and would scope things out ahead of time for us so we made minimal trips from Southern California. When we were considering making an offer, Alex’s expertise helped us navigate disclosures and things to look out for, and he was there for every step of the process to answer any questions we had. We always felt like he had our best interest at heart - and wasn’t just interested in closing a deal.After a few weeks, Alex encouraged us to see a home he’d toured off market and we immediately fell in love. He was able to magically navigate the negotiation to where we received an accepted offer from the sellers just before their open house and were grateful to have avoided what would likely have become a bidding war. Alex was again super responsive during every step of the closing process and helped us with everything from furniture purchasing to meeting GCs for us and granting access to the home while we were out of town. Alex was such a incredible real estate agent to work with and I could not express enough how grateful we were to have him as our agent. We began this process of searching for a home with such little knowledge and when we expressed to Alex upon our first meeting our timeline he did not hesitate to put in the work to get us prepared. Alex walked us through every step from just poking around and looking to being ready and confident in putting in offers and ultimately nabbing our first home. He never pressured us and when we were unsure or weary he really listened to our feelings and concerns and gave us his honest advice even if that meant not making the sale. He always kept us in the know and would check in regularly with potential options that fit our wants/needs. Most importantly was how he made us feel like we were a team and not just potential clients. His knowledge of the Marin area was such a asset to have as he helped guide and educate us on what were points to think about when viewing homes. Most importantly was Alexs communication with us throughout the several months we worked together. He always made time for us and was always open to hearing us and answering any questions we had. Alex has been honest, gracious, knowledgeable, communicative, educational and ultimately the best resource in getting us to be home owners in our dream location. The home we ended up purchasing wasnt even on the market yet and through Alexs connections and resources he was able to get us a viewing and supported and encouraged us when we decided lets do this! He was honest and spot on with the price we submitted and we had to do no negotiating and got the house for under asking. Without him I can truly say we would not be homeowners of the gem that we now own. I would not hesitate at all on working with Alex again in the future.

Alex helped us navigate the most unsettled and challenging buyers markets in decades. Alex was unflappable as increasing interest rates augmented our budget and purchase price ceiling, orienting us appropriately to the Marin market from the East Bay to take advantage of opportunities that met all of our needs and many of our wants. Alex was patient as this process originally slated to take a quarter or two ran over one year and we pivoted several times with respect to geographical areas of focus.Alex was very responsive and we never felt like we were put on the back burner for other, larger clients that Alex and Alamere routinely serve. When there was a conflict (Alex showing for a sell-side client), we were always taken care of by another member of the Alamere Team. Alex was proactive in identifying opportunities and his suggestions were generally well-calibrated to our tastes and needs (missed marks were dude to our instructions to be over-inclusive given dearth of Marin inventory, particularly given the market conditions we contended with).Alexs strategies and negotiations skills resulted in our being successful bidders the weekend our home was being shown, with the buyers cancelling the second opn house only hours before it was set to occur. Had we not followed Alexs advice, we likely would have lost our new home or had to pay significantly more in an auction process. I always felt confident in following Alexs lead and, even with respect to the bids we lost, his advice and explanation of dynamics was always accurate.Alex took care of us after the sale, from arranging contractors to prep for move in to getting us plugged into the Marin motion of shops, restaurants and things to do to letting us borrow his key box for a trip. There were small hiccups with one contractor that was avoidable, but mostly out of Alexs hands since he is not a GC and he expended great efforts to make it right). All in all, you can do no better than to have Alex and his team deftly guide you to your new home. Thank you, Alex!

Alex was incredible to work with every step of the way. He was patient, available, organized, knowledgeable and an overall an incredible resource. It was clear that he had our best interests in mind the entire time and made the process fun and enjoyable throughout. We started working with James Schalich in mid-February, and after viewing 40+ houses and putting down three offers, we closed on our dream house last week. It took us only a month! Its our first home, and it wouldnt have happened without James! He worked so hard, fought and negotiated for us, and was by our side the whole time. We felt supported, our needs heard, and we felt like he was in our corner throughout the process.He took us from zero to pros in a month! We knew very little about the process, from viewing houses to closing on a mortgage. James walked us over the primary milestones to reach in our relationship with the bank, finding the right home, and putting in an offer. In our relationship with James, we created a weekly ritual, with weekend viewings, reviewing disclosures, discussing the houses throughout the following week, and landing on the details of the offers by the end of it. We worked with Alex to buy our first family home and had a wonderful, comfortable experience throughout. Alex has a very easygoing presence and was always happy to cruise over to meet us as any given time to visit a potential home. He even would go so far as to rock our newborn in her car seat so she could snooze and mom could explore. :) Going into this process we knew it was important to find the right personality match for us in a broker, but never truly understood the value of how that personality would fare in relationships outside of ours. Alex was so well liked and respected and very obviously got along with everyone he met. This made the experience of buying a home with him so easy and pleasant. He never put any unnecessary pressure on us and always provided us with a practical, thoughtful and balanced perspective based on his many years of experience. We came into the home buying process with many, MANY questions and Alex always took the time to thoroughly answer us, helping us navigate the many different stages along the way. When we did finally find our home, it was then that we really felt Alex’s incredible value. He respectfully helped us navigate the process and made sure that we won our dream house.
