My daughter and friends have had an awesome experience so far. All the instructors and teachers have been very accommodating and helpful with classes and testing. They are the only martial arts school who offer outdoor and zoom classes that I know of in North County. Every class is different with different techniques, skills, self defense that develop discipline and respect plus they incorporate fun games at the end. They are newly approved vendor for Pacific Coast Academy with unlimited classes per month. Highly recommend for a great martial arts school if you’re in North County.

So glad we were recommended to join about 5 years ago; we highly recommend it as well for any and all kids. Our kids have a lot of extracurricular activities (piano, horseback riding, hula, ballet, flag football, basketball, etc) and AKKARATE is the most organized, well-prepared, well-communicated, and with many leaders that understand how to engage and teach without the kids feeling like they are learning. All of the preparation and thought they put into the classes results in happy kids and happy parents. And particularly, it helped the kids survive the COVID-19 lockdowns and come out mentally and physically HEALTHY! Out of all of the activities, the parents coming out of AKKARATE classes at pickup time are the happiest. And the kids are eager to learn and setup to succeed every step of the way. Our kids are in the blackbelt process now and the support and leadership is so very much appreciated.

AK Martial Arts is excellent! We started with them in 2015 when my older daughter was 3 years old and have stayed with them ever since. Right away, it made a huge difference in her listening skills and focus, as well as respect for all teachers at school & extracurriculars. It also developed her self-confidence, balance and agility, and physical fitness. As she progressed, AK helped her develop self-discipline and good study habits including for belt testing, which have helped her excel all the way into middle school. My younger daughter has been with them more than 5 years and it has had the same benefits. AK offers adult classes which are fantastic. I would encourage any adult who is interested in martial arts, and has never done it before, to reach out to them. The schedule is flexible and includes Saturday & Sunday classes which is great for adult students, as well as parents with busy schedules. The instructors are amazing - knowledgeable, patient, and skilled educators. No other studio compares!

We love AK Martial Arts!. My son started more than 5 years ago and has been engaged with the program since day one. He has developed many skills through his training, not only physical but he also has learned respect, discipline and love for what he does.The instructors are knowledgable and caring; they are great role models for the younger kids. They are amazing.The owners are committed to offer an excellent program and have created a community that respects and appreciates them.There is not any other studio like AK Martial Arts. They offer a variety of classes that can help with many families needs.There is a community of parents that have been friends for many years and we value being part of it.

My kids have been doing martial arts here ever since they were 5 years old. This place has the best instructors who are strict but fun. My daughter is now 12 years old and a black belt. We love AK Martial Arts.

Our seven year old twins have been attending AK Martial Arts since 2016. I was looking for a solution that would help our children learn to focus, pay attention and develop self confidence. Before choosing AK, we went to several different studios in our area, and it wasn’t long before I realized that they were more interested in our money than anything else. Two-year/three-year commitments, horrible reviews from parents unable to break out of their contracts, etc. Add to that, I witnessed instructors that were acting like drill-sergeants at boot camp towards my five-year olds! I was brought up in a competitive sports environment as a child. I was under a strict regimen and coaching starting at eight and by the time I entered my teens, I was fed up and no longer wanted any part in it. The passion was driven out of me. It’s a lesson that I’ve carried with me all my life, and a mistake I’d never make with my own kids.Well, AK Martial arts isn’t like that. They are month to month. That was a big plus for us since we weren’t sure at the time if we are going to need to relocate the following year. What I didn’t realize at the time was what a fantastic philosophy AK uses towards its students. The first thing that we noticed with our kids was a literal transformation of behavior- suddenly, our unruly, screaming kids were much more well behaved at home. My kids actually respond to me with a “Yes Sir!” now more often then not- can you believe that?I really feel the staff at AK Martial arts are terrific people that truly care about their students. Plus they offer more than just teaching your kids “karate”. There’s all sorts of different “camps” offered, parent nights out, safety training, seasonal events, an agility class and more. And probably the most important statement I can make in favor of AK Martial arts and why you would want to enroll your children: my kids never want to miss a single day. They are basically there six days a week, usually two classes per day. Not because they are forced to go, because they absolutely love being there.Update July 13, 2019: We are spending the morning here at Alga Norte Park with all the AK families having a terrific time. The instructors create such a great environment for the kids and they love coming to class day after day. No burnout! Great experience for entire family!

I was looking for something to keep my child active during the pandemic. Although we tried a few online programs for martial arts, we loved the tryout class and had a great time. I really like all of the instructors at AK Martial Arts. Everyone is very caring and the instructors instill discipline and respect for each other in a firm way but still keeping the class fun. I also liked how the instructors give each child an opportunity to talk about whats on the childs mind for the day, which gives a shy child an opportunity to speak in front of everyone virtually - skills that we all need to learn now. The flexible schedule has appealed to us now that things have opened up and allowed us to continue with the classes. Although we have only attended online classes, we hope to attend an in-person class when we are in the area and we feel part of the AK community even though we are virtual. We love AK Martial Arts & Fitness!

AK Martial Arts’ After School Program, camps and martial arts instruction/classes are truly incredible. My son has been a member for six years. His self-confidence and leadership skills have grown as a result of the instructors’ investment in his practice and participation in the camps and other programs. The camps are always changing and are imaginative and creative! The martial arts instructors and staff genuinely care about the students’ development as skilled martial artists and also as leaders and role models. The After School Program features agility classes, opportunities for friendships, a place to unwind, and interactive games and activities. I am grateful for this wonderful and warm community!

Our kids go here for Karate and after hours care. They have been going to karate classes for almost 2 years now and enjoy the weekly classes. I have never heard them complain about getting ready for Karate.Their after school care is amazing and a great value for money. They offer pickup and ensure kids are engaged in some form of physical activity every day. We get a notification every time our child is picked up. They also reach out to us if the kid is feeling sick or wants to skip some activities. The professional manner of operation is noteworthy.

My boys love AKMA! They offer a variety of classes for all ages and have several class times to choose from for busy families. In addition to martial arts, my boys enjoy taking agility classes as well as the camps they have. Teachers are friendly and they have taught my kids so much about respect, self-defense, and confidence. I highly recommend this martial arts studio!

I know that there are many do jangs in the area, but AK Martial Arts & Fitness really rises to the top with an amazing program and an all encompassing sense of family. They make it fun for both kids and adults, The instructors take a real interest in the individual helping them surpass any obstacles they may face. Both my kids look forward to class every week and they absolutely LOVE the camps in the summer. For fun, challenge, and a great work out for both kids and parents, I highly recommend them!

AK Martial Arts & Fitness is the best studio BAR NONE! This place ROCKS! What I love most about the owners at AK is the fact that they genuinely care about their students & families. It is not about the almighty dollar here. They genuinely CARE! No contracts. No ego. Mutual respect shown to both students and their parents. (We experienced another studio where respect runs just one direction) At AK, they lead by example!!! The owners and instructors are respectful, kind, loving and FUN! My daughter has been training at AK for more than 4 years now and she LOVES it! The Do Jang is absolutely beautiful and HUGE but the best components of AK are the owners and instructors. They truly are the very best people you will find. We feel incredibly lucky to have found them.

My boys have been attending AK Martial Arts for over 3 years. Theyve aged up through several of the programs and are enjoying the challenge of the Dragon program, but also are having a fun time! The instructors lead with respect and discipline and we appreciate the emphasis on kindness, responsibility and learning important school aged skills such as real life anti-bullying tactics. As they dive into the dragon program, I appreciate the focus on ho sin sol which is self defense moves. Hopefully they never need to use these skills, but it is comforting knowing that they are learning how to use their bodies to protect themselves. Finally, we enjoy the various camps offered and agility classes!

I have been at AK Karate for almost twelve years, I have gotten to know the instructors personally. Me the instructors and my peers have grown close over the years we even hang out after testing. It has been my rock when the waves of chaos reigned supreme. The instructors are absolutely amazing they arent just there to teach but to get to interact and get to know their students. It is just a wonderful environment for any age.

This is an amazing place to learn Karate at! The instructors are very kind and help you when you need it. They also are very kind to all the student. AK Martial Arts and Fitness teaches more than just karate. Ive learned how to be a better person. Additionally, they offer amazing camps for kids. Ive personally attended a few and they were amazing! We have been more pleased with our experience with AK. The instruction my son receives in class is always positive and focused on more than just karate, as it also includes direction on personal growth and citizenship. Beyond that weve been thrilled with the quality of the summer camps, plus the Parents Night Out events have been a terrific opportunity for my wife and I to get a random date night in and out benefits a local school at the same time!

Our family loves AK Martial Arts! They teach traditional Tang Soo Do, including terminology and theory. The Instructors at AK make every class soo enjoyable. Theres a good mixture of skill training and fun. My girls are always very excited to go to the Dojang.

The AK Martial Arts & Fitness afterschool program has been the perfect fit for our child. Dont let the name of the facility mislead you, this is not just a martial arts afterschool class and it is definitely not a cookie cutter program or glorified babysitter. This is a personalized program to what our child needs and wants - homework, computer time, crafts, agility classes and martial arts. Furthermore, the program director and staff are in touch with us constantly with updates letting us know our child is safe, happy and productive while in their care. It is hard to leave your child in the care of others when you cant be there, but knowing how happy our child is at AK Martial Arts has been a tremendous relief and comfort. I cant recommend their afterschool program enough.

If you are looking for:-A different kind of workout-Self-defense skills-A positive environment for your children to learn about self-discipline and self-control while picking up valuable lessons regarding physical fitness;then I highly recommend trying out AK Martial Arts & Fitness. Its okay not to be sure you want to dedicate yourself to this activity, but you should at least give it a shot.Highlights of the operation:The studio is large enough to accommodate many students and give each student plenty of room for moving, the staff is dedicated, competent, serious (but capable of humor!) and approachable.There are many materials available for class, such as balance beam, jelly pads, medicine balls, etc. and the student body has a good work ethic and a real sense of community.People I recommend try traditional Tang Soo Do at AK Martial Arts & Fitness:Any well-formed child from 3 years on up. Yes, 3. You would be amazed at the lessons they can learn and the fun they can have!Any adult looking for a different kind of workout. You will use different muscles and coordination than you use in any other athletic endeavor, so if you are looking for a cross-training activity or just something to keep you from getting bored with treadmills, this is great!Any adult serious about self-defense. Honestly, that should be all of us. You wont be able to take on a legion of bad guys just because you studied martial arts for 6 months, but you will be able to give one attacker way more trouble than he bargained for. Some of the training exercises emulate 4 simultaneous attackers! I hope I never need that, but at least Ive practiced it a few times now.I started training at AK because my kids were doing it. Now we all have an activity we can talk about together, something we do together, and something healthy to do at least a couple times per week. Im stronger, have better posture and am generally more relaxed, plus Ive discovered I actually enjoy sparring. I never would have expected that, nor all the other little nuggets of fun Ive discovered along the journey.The owners of this studio put their hearts and souls into the place, and it shows. It is a very positive environment, and I cannot recommend it more highly.

My 4.5 year old has been coming here for almost 2 years now. Its both fun and challenging, but most importantly it teaches the kids a growth mindset. As they practice, their sKill level improves along with confidence. I recommend for both boys and girls of all ages.

Tang Soo Do! Not Just for kids.Love the adult classes here during lunchtime, evenings and Saturday mornings. Instructors individualize the training based on the participants and their needs. Personally, Ive been able to strengthen my core, increase my flexibility and learn martial arts techniques all while working towards the goal of a black belt.Come join us.
