This is one of (if not) my favorite place to eat. The menu is always full of tempting choices. Resturaunt has a great atmosphere and outside dining. Staff is always solid. Kalbi fries are 🔥

We moved to the area earlier this year & haven’t really explored all the restaurants just yet but came upon this after my wife gave birth & wanted her sushi fix after a long 9 months. We were seated right away on a Friday evening and the place was packed & vibe was amazing.Staff was super friendly & gave awesome recommendations on popular items from the menu. We loved every single item we ordered and they all tasted amazing.We sat indoor and they had beautiful decor all around. Hope we are able to get seating outdoor next time!Will definitely be back again to try out more of the menu!Updated review: after attempting to visit 2 more times; each visit was stopped by restaurant being “closed” for one reason or another. Today it was closed for a “private event”. It’s disappointing that customers are driving out to eat & management isn’t capable of updating hours online to reflect modified hours. Ps- $10 future gift card isn’t worthy of anything these days.

This place was recommended to us by our winemaker. Drove here from Roseville, and we were NOT disappointed! Sat at the bar with my wife. Gorgeous atmosphere - has the upscale Asian feel with unique modern art and design. Big bar. The dining area is beautiful. Outside seating is available with nice views of the canal and wildlife. The food was delicious and unique. Many options from sushi, sashimi, to ramen and upscale fish dishes. The chef embraces Japanese cuisine with all sorts of flavors. The ramen was bomb! The bar had 4-5 beers on tap - had even Japanese craft imports. What I loved the most was that they use fresh squeezed juice for their craft cocktails - the key for delicious drinks. Crafty gin options were really good. Thr bartender was engaging and motivated. We had an awesome experience. Will visit again 100% ! Highly recommend.

WE went to Aji tonight. I have to give the restaurant high marks for getting a table ready for us and it was busy. The hostess was awesome. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. But the food was terrible at best. I had veggie donburi. The vegetables were mush and what looked like had been cooked for 3 days..in fact you couldnt even tell what vegetable it was. Rice was all stuck and glued together and no sauce or flavor. My partners sushi roll was mediocre at best with no bowl given for soy sauce. When our food came out, a few wait people brought it out and proceed to just call out the dish and we as customers had to raise our hands like a diner. Why do we all pay so much to get such little. Find another place if you want decent food.

Beautiful view of the fountain and delicious food. We ordered rolls, ramen and miso soup, everything was perfect, especially fast service (about 10 min☺️). A cozy place looks like somewhere in Italy, quiet street, sidewalk and nice patio.My kids were playing in front of me and let me enjoy the lunch

Came at the recommendation of a friend. Lounge seating outdoors was perfect for us w a toddler. Love the water view. It was pretty busy at 6pm on a Wednesday!Happy Hour was sooooo valuable. For 2 adults and a toddler, we got kids chicken ramen, kalbi fries, ribs, and cashew prawns. OMG we were so filled. We could’ve ordered one less item. Great value and quantity!

Yummo!Update: February 28 2020Came in for celebratory beverage and grilled shishito peppers.The Smoked Old fashion arrived 15 minutes after my shishito peppers which trailed the waiter with water by 8 minutes. I was seated 8 minutes before I was approached by the server.So service is now very slow and seems to be on the shoulders of the bartenders. The shishito peppers timing was reasonable but the time to take my order was lacking. Food and beverage was as expected.Update: May 2022My wife an I came in and had a great meal. The service was outstanding sitting at the bar. People have good and bad days and because of the many times I have had a wonderful experience I have concluded the one time I did not may have been someones bad day.

Aji Japanese Bistro was epically good! Not cheap, but great value. Im a celiac (no gluten). They were knowledgeable, accommodating and had a special menu. It was somewhat limited, but extremely delicious. The cuts of fish were amazing. The spicy tuna roll (forget name) was so great. The chefs sashimi cuts were top notch. The salmon was so nice - cooked perfectly, crispy on the bottom, and well seasoned.I didnt try the beef sukiyaki, but it looked amazing and was described as being delicious. Id highly recommend. A+++.

First time visit... was very pleased. We enjoyed a dragon roll, and a duck appetizer. As well as the lunch special a teriyaki bowl and I forgot what my son order but he loved it. Prices were reasonable, service was amazing! The ambience was great! I will be back and I am interested in trying other items on their menu.

The bad: When Ordering sushi rolls and the ingredients are listed. You kind of expect all of the ingredients to be On each and every piece of dissushi, roll right, maybe a little bit missing from the ends? Well, our rolls came out with certain ingredients barely on four pieces of the entire sushi roll which was very disappointing.Honestly the worst part with that we had a booth that directly faced the kitchen. The kitchen floor was filthy and we got to watch our server wash their hands 3 times.....which was three times more than the cooking staff there. One cook didnt wash their hands the entire hour we were there and the other cook washed his hands o ly to pick up his cell phone, then directly touch the edge of the knife with his cell phone contaminated hand to what I assume is test the sharpness of the blade. Their cooks clearly didnt take their Servsafe courses seriously.The good: Our server. She was on it, washed her hand frequently and was super, duper awesome. I dont remember her name but she was great.

Never like to pull that card, but I will for this review. The. Gentlemen running the front desk, red hair. Work on yourself and treat everyone the same, we don’t need a feel of discrimination in this world. You’ll probably deny it if you read this review but I know what I saw and felt. No acknowledgment really when I came in, not a hi or what did I need. I had to tell you what I’m there for. An older white couple walks in, you are all smile and acknowledging them to have a seat right by me. What a pity. I’ve been a manager in retail for 10 years and 8 years in Finance, I focus deeply on customer service. I won’t be coming back and forsure not recommending our company caters from you ever. To the owners, get someone with genuine service to the front desk.

I had Spicy Chicken ramen and some fries as a side. The noodles from the ramen were so flavorful and I liked the texture. The water was spicy, in a very good way, and the rest of the ingredients complimented each other nicely. I really liked the layout and design of the restaurant as well.

We have had incredible service both times we’ve been here. This restaurant is much more vegan friendly than others in the area. That being said, I’m really hopeful that in the coming years chefs and restaurants will expand their skills to include more plant-based options that don’t sacrifice on taste.It’s silly, ironic, and a little frustrating to pay the same price for a plate of food that simply omitted ingredients to make it vegan and often means taste has been sacrificed.

Have been here many items but this trip was a big let down. Service and ambience as always was great. Food was a major let down. Calamari and Gyoza were under seasoned and bland. Spicy chicken ramen was surprisingly bland as well, broth was oily and lacked any flavor beyond the spice. Worst was the salmon salad. The Hamachi Jalepeno is the best Ive ever had! Its so soft and fresh, laid in a bed of ponzu sauce and the kick from the fresh Jalepeno just kills it. We also had the spicy chicken ramen and we both had dealers choice rolls AND drinks. Everything tasted amazing. Not to mention the outdoor seating area next to the water with the bistro lights and the soft music just made it that much better. Do yourself a favor and come here next time you visit EDH 🙌

I love that we stumbled into this place, without reservations, and it was surprisingly good! We were on our way to Red Hawk Casino and wanted to grab dinner on the way because I dont like the food at Red Hawk. Aji Japanese Bistro is near Higway 50 situated in the El Dorado Hills Town Center. It was Saturday night and the place was busy with great weekend vibes. We were lucky that a table had just left and we were seated shortly.The menu is an interesting mix of Japanese fusions and street foods. Since this was our first time, we stick with the basic. We got two rolls: Angry Tuna Maki - spicy tuna, maguro, cucumber, siracha and togarashi and Rainbow Maki - tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, crab mix, hamachi, sake, ebi, and maguro. Hmm....I noticed most of the rolls had tuna in it. They were both good and fresh, but not memorable. The 7 pc sashimi (Chefs choice) was fresh and good size but lacking presentation. It was 7 pieces of fish on a plain white plate. It was odd! We end the dinner with the best dish of the evening - Tonkotsu Ramen! The broth was flavorsome and filled with all the good toppings like tempura shrimp, char siu, perfectly cooked egg, etc. I would come back just for the ramen. Yeah, it was that good!The restaurant had a nice wide bar. Small booth lined one wall. Big outdoor area with patio heaters. This place is much bigger than I expect.Excellent service! It was a busy night and understandably the kitchen is a backed up. Our server checked on us a few times, informed us about the delay and offered her apologies.

The atmosphere is great but thats about all it has to offer. Food was mediocre and nothing really grabbed anyone at the table. Everyone left hungry and feeling like they didnt get anywhere near what they paid for. The quality of the ingredients as well as the way the food was prepared and presented were also very mediocre and what youd get at any fast food seafood place except youll pay 2-3xs as much and wait twice as long. Service wasnt great either, didnt even get offered a refill or additional drinks.

The burger was a disappointment, as it came on a couple slices of toast. Very cheaply done and came with a high price tag of 16 bones I believe. We had a 5 Star dining experience with delicious food and excellent service. The cocktails were perfectly garnished and we enjoyed the fresh sushi, ribs, cashew shrimp and artichoke hearts. The attention to social distancing and huge outdoor dining patio were an added plus. Chef/Owner Russell Okubo touched our table and shared his recommendations along with the attentive service staff. Great place! A little hard to find at first. They have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as seating at the bar. They offer a nice happy hour with drink and food specials. Their artisan cocktails are amazing (Im a beer and wine girl, but I know Im getting cocktails if were going to Aji!) The food is amazing. Weve had sushi and ordered from the rest of the menu and have never had a complaint! Sometimes it gets busy and the bar staff is slow to serve their tables (too busy making those incredible cocktails that take extra time and attention), but other than that we have no complaints! Would definitely recommend!!

This place used to be good but there business decisions lately have been all over the place. I scheduled and planned a big dinner for a birthday party in January when they said they were open, we went to dine in and they said they couldn’t allow people in as of two days prior. They canceled our reservation without calling me to cancel the reservation so the whole family drove from different locations only to find this out. Now today, I call in to do take out and they stated, “they can’t do take out because their kitchen is overloaded from Valentine’s Day” I have ordered for Valentine’s Day take out before and have never heard of anyone doing this. Good luck guys, hopefully management wakes up. Never eating at Aji again. Great food, terrible management.

I visit this restaurant pretty frequently. The atmosphere is great both at lunch and dinner. Lunch isn’t typically as busy as dinner, which is great because the food is great and I hate waiting while I think about getting my good food. If you plan on eating here for dinner definitely call ahead, and if you don’t, come in sooner than later because the wait is generally pretty long. Can’t blame the place for being popular. My birthday dinner at Aji Japanese Bistro was excellent. I give it a solid A rating and consider it to be one of the best restaraunt experieces Ive ever had, and without traveling too far from home. Every protein served had a near perfect tenderness and texture to it. Some of the sauces served with each dish complemented the dishes they were served with better than others although the sauces themselves held their own and worked well with some of the other options. A relatively expensive price to pay for a meal but you definitely get what you pay for. I have to give a shout out to our server and restaraunt host Matt for amplifying the experience as a whole due to his thorough guest interaction and service. I will certainly be coming back sometime soon.

Can I just say that this place has some of the most amazing fusion asian cuisine? I would have never known about this place had my fiancee not gotten a job in El Dorado Hills because this guy is safely tucked away in the town shopping center there. The food is fresh and delicious and I have not had one single bad item yet. Just reading the menu makes me salivate sometimes. The best time to go in my opinion is during the happy hour when they have some of their small dishes and drinks on sale. Its a great way to end a day with some gyoza and tempura and drinks! We went here for happy hour and kids meals =). Happy hour is all day Monday and 2-6pm Tuesday - Friday.The kids meals are a great deal with plenty of food for the little ones. Specifically, the karaage and the grilled cheese were both good portion sizes with great crispy fries.The drink menu has something for everyone and the kalbi fries were good to pick on while enjoying a drink. We didnt get to try a lot of sushi, but we had 2 rolls that were decent but maybe a bit heavy on the sauces (Tsukiji and something else...). I was home visiting my parents and given the stellar reviews decided to take my dad out to sushi here. Overall, while the atmosphere/decor is pretty good, both the food and service left a lot to be desired. A few general comments:- Seated promptly and told a server would be with us shortly. Waited for ~20 minutes without anyone coming by to even ask about drinks (other than putting a bottle of water on the table). When someone finally did show up, no apology or recognition of the fact we had been waiting at all (almost like they were clueless).- Food presentation was poor (sashimi was smushed together on a small salad plate with carrots on the side).- The actual taste of the food was either incredibly bland (e.g. calamari) or completely over-seasoned (e.g. seaweed salad). Fried pork spring rolls seemed like they came out of a frozen package.Thankfully there are two other sushi places nearby, as I wont be going back here anytime soon.
