Jorge was out to do the by-annual HVAC maintenance. He did an awesome job. Fixed the vibration noise in my compressor. Everything is now checked and balanced. A-1 is a great company and I’m very happy customer.

We contacted A-1 Guaranteed 2 months back when we decided to switch out the 25 plus year old gas furnace from the home we purchased in Berkeley in 2020. the previous winter the gas furnace stopped working after a part went bad and had to replaced (luckily covered under the home appliance warranty. After researching about different Heat pump HVAC systems along with potentially replacing our central air ducts we found many incentives through East Bay Community Energy to switch to electric. Some of the resources can be found through the switchison.org, Tech Clean California and BayRen. A-1 guaranteed Heating and AC is listed among the certified contractors which is required to qualify for the incentives.I was very impressed from the get go with how thorough and professional the team were. Kirk, who is one of the senior sales representatives from A-1 Guaranteed Heating in Vallejo came out 2-3 days after we requested an appointment and went over the process of replacing the gas furnace and installing a new heat pump HVAC including the technical details between the 2 systems. He also provided us education on how they evaluate the homes attic and wall insulation as well as the condition of the ducts. Kirk explained that the condition of the ducts and insulation were equally important to installing a new heating system to make sure that any newly installed system would be designed to run at the highest level of efficiency and comfort. After reviewing all the incentives for our zip code we decided to replace the air ducts and switch to the HVAC heat pump.A-1 Guaranteed heating did a thorough evaluation of our level of insulation to make sure that the system would be sized appropriately. Fortunately our home only required a 2 ton heat pump and they had a fujitsu model in stock. (considered one of the better heat pumps) Kirk also explained that the bid included all the costs including material, labor and permits from the city of Berkeley which requires an city inspection.We did seek out some other bids from other local Heating HVAC installers in the east bay but most were saying it would be 1-2 months before they could even come out to do an evaluation or the other companies bids were much much higher for the same service and products.Even after accepting their bid if we had any questions or clarifications no matter how small the issue was Kirk would reply promptly answering all our queries.Also the scheduling staff always communicated with us well in advance about potential dates and times for the installations and to confirm that that these times would work for our schedule. Even reminding us of the scheduled dates when BayRen or the city inspectors would coming out to complete their inspections.When the HVAC installers came to our home they all seemed very skilled.Also they were very clean, followed recommended covid protocols and were considerate about keeping us apprised of any items where they or we needed clarification. All the work was completed including the city inspections with 6 weeks which given all the supply chain issues is in record time from what I can tell.After they completed the installation the technicians also let us know that we should monitor how the air flow was in each of the rooms for sometime and if any adjustments that we felt were needed, they would come back and make the adjustments. In our case about 1 week later we decided that one of the ducts did need to be adjusted. After reaching out to Kirk within 1-2 day the technicians came out and rectified the situation.Overall the A-1 Guaranteed Heating and AC team has been a model experience and we felt the team not only placed a value on providing excellent qualified technical installation services but also on providing a great customer experience as well and we highly recommend them.

My house is cold most of the time so I called A-1 to check the HVAC for leaks in the ducts. He measured the temperature of air flow coming into each room from the vents and then checked the vents for leaks. He was very thorough and told me to have the window in one of the rooms checked because he saw condensation between the glass. I called the business that installed the window and the technician was not helpful at all. I would trust A-1 to thoroughly check and evaluate any potential leaks!

My experience with A-1 Guaranteed Heating and Air was just as I had hoped. The technician, Jorge Escobar, was very professional. He notified me in a text that he was on his way to my house and would arrive in ten minutes. Jorge explained the steps he took to complete the scheduled service. Jorge then answered my questions about a possible new “Smart” thermostat and the features of each thermostat. When he returned the next day to install the Ecobee thermostat, he once again sent a text letting me know when his arrival time would be. He was prompt, prepared, professional and completed the job to perfection. Jorge Escobar, thank you for taking the time to help me set up the thermostat and link it to my phone app. I’m once again a very happy customer. Jorge is a very professional and agreeable tech.He was professional, complete and thorough. in explaining what he would be doing from cleaning filters, doing diagnostics, and reporting about the surrounding area.Due to a rodent issue, Jorge took pics and showed me the debris that was being caused so I can have my contractor take care of blocking any entry points.Jorge went above and beyond to clean the furnace, filters and keep me informed.

All of my interactions with A-1 from front desk, scheduling, installation, follow-up, and maintenance have been great. A-1 Guaranteed Heating installed a mini-split heat pump in our LR/DR area earlier this year and did a great job. We took bids from 2 companies and A-1 was significantly less. Although cost is a factor, we dont always go with the lowest bid. A-1s presentation and qualifications were impressive, and we have been very satisfied with their work. The installation went smoothly and the installers were very professional. It was a little tricky figuring out the appropriate settings to achieve the heating levels that we wanted, but the company was very responsive and quick to send someone out to check things out for us. The technician tested the equipment to make sure it was working properly, and then gave us more detailed instructions on how to adjust various settings. Everything is working very well for us now. We are happy customers.

I always get phone call reminders from the office, calls from the technicians on the day of service and my next appointment scheduled before the technician leaves the house. Technicians are always professional and explain everything that they are doing and go over the findings at the end of the visit. Tyler vacuumed and cleaned around the furnace unit today. I really can’t speak highly enough of my experience.I did my research and met with several contractors, but my experience with A1 was by far the best. The team was punctual and very responsive. I asked a lot of questions and they made sure to cover things that I didn’t anticipate. In fact I had several contractors recommend things that weren’t necessary.We had a new heat pump installation and replaced our gas heating furnace.The installation process went smoothly and we were up and running and cooling our home on day one.We ran into a small hiccup with our inspection, but the team took care of it immediately. We passed the inspection a week later, no big deal at all. In fact, I would argue that the inspectors perspective was a bit outdated, and we should have passed on the first visit IMHO.All in all a great company and great people.

For many years now, I have been using A-1 Guaranteed Heating and Air to service my HVAC home system. The staff at A-1 have always treated me with great care. Their service technicians always call before arriving at my house and arrive on time. I hear them vacuuming my furnace from top to bottom and performing diagnostic tests. My air conditioner stopped working, and the first company I called came out and told me there was no way to fix it, and I would have to get a new system.I decided to get a second opinion first, so I called A-1 guaranteed. They came out, and it turns out it was just a part that needed changing.Everything has been working great since. The technician Joe was nice and clean, and explain to me everything that was going on. Excellent experience. We replaced two gas furnaces and air conditioners with a two new heat pump systems. Our salesperson Kirk Schlicting visited the home and did a thorough walkthrough and inspection. He followed up with a proposal on the same day. Cost was reasonable and in line with three other bidders. Kirk was very responsive throughout the decision process answering my many questions about the technology, rebates and federal credits.Installation occurred over three days and was problem free. I joined Kaseys Klub a few years ago which means they inspect heating systems in the Fall and air in the Spring. This has been an invaluable asset.A-1 has also taken out my 40 yr old insulation from the attic and replaced it with new. Quite the job and they were very good about draping house so dust did not get anywhere else.Currently, Brian just replaced our 19 year old thermostat. I have been in the trades both selling and providing services for the past 17 years. When we decided to have AC installed and our furnaces removed and replaced I thought it would be relatively easy.The estimates proved to be frustrating. We were going to go with our first quote but they stalled us and then requoted and told us the rebates they quoted were no longer available. Not quite sure why they thought they would get my business. I had four subsequent quotes and I just never really felt good about any of the quotes or who was providing them.Kirk from A-1 changed all that. The difference? He listened and provided an economical solution where everybody was happy.The crew arrived at 8 this morning and left a little after 2. We have been dealing with A-1 Guaranteed for the past several years and couldnt be happier! They installed a brand new A/C unit and furnace a few years back, and the total system has worked flawlessly since day one. We are also a proud member of Kaseys Klub where they come every 6 months to tune up the system, replace our filter and do system diagnostics. Brian, our regular technician, is a joy to work with. He is friendly, polite, knowledgable, and very experienced with all the products that A-1 Guaranteed sell, service and install. For instance, when Brian came in March, he told us of a wonderful product that they were recommending, the i-Wave air purifier. It increases the filtration efficiency of the HVAC system and kills viruses (including some COVID strains) and germs in the air. He offered to install it during that visit and even gave us a substantial discount over their regular price! Long story short, he had the device up and running in 30 minutes and it has worked perfectly since. The proof is in the filter which captured way more dust and debris than before the i-Wave was installed. Thanks again, Brian, and A-1 Guaranteed. Additionally, props to Joe @ A-1 who also has provided excellent service, specifically when assisting us in setting up our new HVAC system and selecting the right equipment for our home. About 10 years ago we had A1 install new heating and A/C, new Ducting, new windows and doors, new thermostat, and new insulation in the attic. I had 2 small children at the time and a huge dog and they did an amazing job of being low impact on our house so we could still hang out with all the construction. The work was affordable and 10 years later we haven’t had a single issue with any of the equipment or work. They walked us through the financing options so we could afford all of the work and our out of pocket cost every month actually went down because of the new energy efficiency of our older home. They are a great company that really cares about their customers and the community.

I hired A-1 Guaranteed Heating & Air to install an air conditioner for me last summer. Im very satisfied with the job they did. One of the programs they offer their clients is to go on a monthly subscription plan with them and you get your air conditioner as well as heater serviced twice a year. There are additional benefits with this program as well. I just had my second service and continue to be very impressed with this company from the people working in the office to their technicians. We had an old forced-air gas furnace that we knew wed need to retire soon, and got 3 estimates for replacing it with a heat pump. The pricing varied a lot, and if you do this, make sure you get a number of estimates, and definitely include A-1. I chose them in part because I saw them at a City of Berkeley home electrification expo in 2019: they seemed very knowledgable and experienced; and also because of recommendations on NextDoor. Kirk was our sales person and was extremely knowledgeable and low-pressure. I went back and forth with him about whether we needed to replace our ductwork (other bidders suggested it; A-1 did not), and he was very patient with my questions. They do a pretty comprehensive assessment of the house in terms of existing insulation, windows, square footage, etc., in order to properly size the system. The install was great- very professional and friendly crew (incl. COVID protocols, etc.). I asked them at the last minute to install some earthquake straps to secure the outside compressor/evaporator unit, which they gladly and ably did. They were able to use existing electrical conduits, minimizing impact to the exterior of our home. Soon it was supplying us heat, but we didnt get any AC. So they sent out a tech immediately to carefully troubleshoot and at the end of the day, they resolved the issue. Permitting was super easy too- the city knows them well and it was very smooth. A-1 were super organized with scheduling and paperwork. Were very pleased with the final product- we have an inline filter which is a lot easier to replace than in the ceiling-mounted intake; and its a lot quieter inside. My only nit was our pull-down ladder got damaged during the install- it was pretty old- and they offered to work with us to replace it. Overall communication has been great.Its a family-run business, and they certainly deserve the high ratings they have. We will definitely put them on the short list for a next job if we have one.

My wife and I wanted to replace our natural gas furnace with a Fujitsu mini-split heatpump HVAC system. We looked up and contacted a number of HVAC companies to discuss the work and get quotes. After meeting with six companies that wed contacted, we chose A-1 Guaranteed Heating & Air for several reasons. The sales representative Kirk responded promptly to our inquiry, was knowledgeable about the system we were interested in, was courteous and professional, and the price A-1 quoted was reasonable. They were able to schedule the work in a reasonable amount of time. First Nick measured all the rooms in the house and properly size the system. Then a few weeks later, the work foreman Roger and his crew, who again were all very knowledgeable and professional, removed the old heater, and installed new system in a single day. The system works great to both heat and cool the house, is virtually silent, and will reduce our annual natural gas use by about 50%. Were very happy with the work that A-1 did for us, and with our new HVAC system.

I usually dont take the time to write reviews, but I must say A-1 Guarantee gives me a sense of comfort to know that my heating and air is working properly at all times. I am on a maintenance plan where they come out before the summer and before the winter to make sure everything is operating properly. Today Erik Gomez, Maintenance/Service Tech spent about 2 hours just making sure everything is in working order and also installed a new filter (which I appreciate) and batteries on my thermostat. He took his time to also explain the performance of the heater/air and life left as well as and other services they offer such as insulation, and solar. He was very polite, professional and thorough. My heater stopped working and A-1 sent a tech that worked with my schedule.Erik Gomez came on time and was very professional and courteous. I told him of a similar issue in the past when a bird (crow) dropped a piece of bone in the vent pipe leading to the heater blower and it jammed the motor. I had scheduled a tune up of our furnace on Nov. 19 and the technician was suppose to arrive between 11 and 1. At a little before 11, I receive a call from Brian and he says he will be doing the service and that he is 10 minutes out. Promptly at 11 he arrives, which I truly appreciate as no one likes waiting. Ill keep it short, but Brian did a thorough inspection of the unit, found what issues were there and then went over them in detail with me regarding the unit. What I liked is that he didnt try to sell me anything, but told me what to be aware of and, in the future, they can repair/replace what was needed. Oct 23, 2020, A1 Guaranteed Heating & Air representative (Kirk) contacted me confirm my consultation appointment for my two Fujitsu mini splits. I originally had an old wall furnace that has probably been in the house since the 1950s. So it was 100% time for an upgrade. I want to start by saying Kirk was very respectful & professional and he took all steps to make sure I was safe during this pandemic (COVID). I had done my homework (google search) ahead of time and had an Idea of what I wanted. Now I had met with two other companies before A-1. I told both those companies my ideas and they decided to give me pricing for what I wanted. Not one of those companies gave me alternatives. Now going back to my man Kirk at A-1. He broke down both rooms and told me why the units I selected would not work for my space. He gave me an alternative and said he would go back and send me specifications on the units he selected. We decided to have central air conditioning installed because of the all too frequent heat waves in the Bay Area and because we can’t open the windows to cool the house during fire season. I contacted A-1 Guaranteed along with 2 other HVAC companies servicing the area. A-1 sent Matt to the house for a site survey and to work up a proposal. Matt is extremely knowledgeable and helped me size and select a system compatible with our Bryant Evolution furnace. He explained things in a way that demonstrated year’s of experience in the field and it was the primary reason for selecting A-1 Guaranteed over the others. The proposal was well thought out and Matt took the time to explain the job.During installation, Matt, Roger, and crew were careful and respectful of our property. They put down drop cloths, wore shoe coverings, and carefully followed covid protocols by maintaining social distancing and always wearing masks while on site. The installation is extremely clean with duct work, plumbing, and electrical neatly done with things tied up and out of the way in the HVAC crawl space.I don’t usually write reviews unless I’m extremely happy with the work. Matt Hiteshew came out (early, I might add!) and discovered that his company had installed the heater/AC system in my house for previous owners only maybe 4 years ago and I didnt have to pay a single cent because it was all still covered by their warranty. Matt showed me how/where to change the filter, topped off the refrigerant (which turned out to be a very simple fix for the problem I was having with my AC), and checked the entire system to make sure that everything was working okay. He was courteous, professional, and went above and beyond by changing out some light bulbs in my skylight that I couldnt reach. I only write reviews if Im wow-ed. I was definitely wow-ed. Very disappointed with the service. We often like to test how companies like these treat women vs men, and we feel ripped off. My girlfriend called to have our thermostat replaced, with a brand new thermostat that we already had at our home. They told my girlfriend it would be $78 to come out. They failed to mention to her that would be a $78 charge for a diagnostic. Surprise! On top of the diagnostic charge she was also charged an additional $150 per hour to replace the thermostat. Thats right folks $230 for someone to replace a thermostat. Next she was told the heater we have is too old to be replaced and that this company wouldnt touch this job with a 10 ft pole. A heater repair company that wont replace heaters! What a sweet business practice. Needless to say, we will never use this company again when we need a similar service, or heaven forbid when we replace our heater. Its too difficult for them. Thanks for reading and beware of predatory companies such as this that hide their fees and take advantage of women who wouldnt know to ask about these hidden fees. Shop around people! There are certainly better companies out there, that do honest work.

We had a great experience with A1 Heating and Air. We are new to the area and needed help with an AC condensation line that was draining into and out of the wall. And separately, our inability to get to 2 Nest thermostats up and running. My husband was able to schedule a convenient appointment time over the phone. John came out and diagnosed the drainage problem straight away, cut just the right size access area and was able to make the fix. Next, he went on to install our Nest thermostats. There was a power problem which he diagnosed fairly quickly, went back up into the attic and made the necessary changes to the wiring. Within two hours, I had a fix for my leaking wall and two appropriately wired Nest thermostats. Pretty amazing. We had a GREAT experience working with Richard, Krissy, and their company. We wanted to add a/c to our old house, because it gets hot in our area of Richmond (on the El Sobrante border). And we figured it would be a good idea to upgrade our furnace too. So we went with a mini split system, which uses about as much power as a hair dryer according to Richard (!!!). The new system is SO quiet, yet efficient, and it cools and warms our house easily. We also added solar, and Nick was a big help in planning the system. We added 22 panels and the system COOKS! As soon as the sun comes up and over our roof, we just produce a ton of solar energy. Roger, Victor, and the rest of the team really did a great job. This job also started right before the COVID shutdowns happened, so it took a little longer than normal, but everything worked out in the end, and we couldnt be happier.

We had a good run with these guys until last week. Our fan motor broke. The technician thought that the capacitor was the culprit. Replacing it didnt fix the problem, hence the fan motor diagnose. For the repair, we are asked $384 for the capacitor and $880 for the fan motor! I checked online. Found the very same motor for $230 and the same capacitor that had expired after at least 8 years of service for $21... Absolutely nuts. I ordered the parts and asked for a new visit to perform the repair. As expected, the managers initial answer was that it wasnt possible because they were not responsible for the parts that I ordered. I insisted, so they asked $700!!!! The final offer was $400, because getting to my home, doing the service and driving back would take 4 hours... Guys, you are competing in my market- Lamorinda- Walnut Creek. You cant charge me 2 hours or more of transit time because you are located in the area code 707. This is not a good value for the Lamorinda/ Walnut Creek/ Danville area.

Doesnt look like honest company. I set up appointment for my rental house. A day before visit they called to confirm appointment and wanted Credit card info with upto $400 authorization in case he cant contact. I was not informed about this in beginning. One more reviewer complained about being charged $500 the same shady way.

Responded quickly to a problem with our A/C over the weekend. E-mailed at 7:30 AM, responded by 8 AM and arrived promptly at 10 AM. Our service tech Matt had the problem measured immediately and handled within about 20 minutes. Excellent, knowledgeable, and friendly service.

We had a heat pump installed in December 2023 and everything went very well. A-1s pricing was very competitive and their product is excellent. The heating was great as is the air conditioning. Recently, we had a problem with the AC and called A-1. They responded immediately and fixed our problem quickly. They sent their technician, Jose, and then sent one of the owners, Nick, to help us out. It was during a heat wave and Im sure many people had AC problems but A-1 made us feel like we were their most important customer. I highly recommend this company!
